When I was at graduation we had from 11 am about to 8 pm
Spend time going to a nice place to eat or let your sailor rest whichever they prefer. My son wanted to go to eat. The time flies. He left that Sat morning around midnight-2 am to go to the airport. They flew out that morning. On the flight in first class there were 3 seats and they gave them to 3 sailors and my son happened to be one. He got to go first class to SC and slept the whole way! What a blessing!
My son just arrived yesterday to Goose Creek. We had planned a vacation in SC for the upcoming weekend and know his liberty is limited the first month. Any suggestions on who I should contact or the best ways and times to visit him both on base and off for the weekend?
Kristin: He will be briefed on what he can and can't do for liberty. I know that they have a curfew, and I believe are restricted to on base only. There is a bowling alley, and restaurant on base - as well as a swimming pool.
Just wanted to know if there are any wives that are currently living in Goose Creek. Been here for a little while, and just looking to meet some people!
MOMS, I just sent several of you private messages regarding our Nuke mom only FB group. If I missed any MOMS who might like to be in that group, please let me know.
Kat, I would like be part of the Nuke Mom Only FB group. I tried to send this message to you directly but don't know how to do it (if it's even possible).
Poodlelover, I sent you a friend request with a short message. Cindyb, I don't know, are you a member already? Message me your full name so I can check. CB'sMoM, I sent you a message. Cerise, I sent you a message.
Chris and MattsMom, I sent you both friend requests. For any MOMS who I have not added to the FB group yet, please message me. It is getting confusing, ha.
I just wanted to thank all the mom's who told their Sailors that my son was at Goose Creek. Your son's found mine and made him feel so welcome and wanted, even though he was a month late getting there. You are wonderful people and angels to my son and I. : ) Thank you.
Hello Eric's mom. My son is at GC also. He just got phase 3. My husband and I will be goine to visit him Labor Day wknd. Let me know if your son needs anything.
CB'sMom - Hello and thank you for the offer. I think so far we are doing okay. : ) I'm going to start sending him care packages this week. He said he was supposed to start Indoc today and then we think school starts next week. I wish I lived close enough to visit, but since I don't I thought care packages would be the next best thing. Enjoy you visit.
Does anyone know who my son can contact about what to do on Liberty days? He knows there's there the movies and bowling, but what else is there to do? Is there someone he can contact that might help him? Are there upcoming events in Charleston or on base? I hope this question makes since.
I'm not sure about a contact. But my son just went exploring into Charleston and the beach area. He eventually found things to do . Also tell him to check online for upcoming events I know my son went to several concerts
Hi I just realized this page was here! I was trying to ask a question on the nuke moms page but it got ignored so maybe someone here will be better help!
How does holiday liberty work for new sailors in phase one? I spoke to my boyfriend today and he said that someone told him (higher up) that he should be allowed to spend the night off base, but wouldn't know for sure until he got to Charleston Labor Day weekend. I didn't think that was the case, but I figured someone here should know.
Thanks!
Hi all . . . I asking almost the same question as CEWnukegf, how does it work for the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays?? By that time my son will have phased up, but we weren't sure if he would get to come home any time during these holidays? Does anyone know, or who he could ask?
Eric's Mom, from our experience last year, no he won't be able to come home for Thanksgiving, but the school essentially shuts down for the Christmas holidays. Just about all get 10 days of leave with temporary phase-up if applicable. They have to get a chit to travel more than a certain distance, but that isn't difficult -- they just have to tell where they are going, how they are getting there, etc.
CEWnukegf, for Labor Day, if your boyfriend has just arrived, he won't be able to overnight off base. He will be able to go off-base on liberty with some restrictions, but will have to return to quarters by 00:15. Look at the "Your Sailor's Schedule Upon Arrival" discussion above, which lists the phase one rules. He will have been briefed. It is important that they strictly obey the rules, especially WRT alcohol.
My son is in A school and is scheduled to graduated Sept 26 2014. I am concerned or maybe just a worried mom because he leaves out all the details to me because I do worry but this last exam has caused him to have more study hours. He said he passed the exam so what exactly does that mean?
dentalchick, that is completely normal. A-school grades aren't quite like college grades. All of the students are on some mandatory study. There is a number of hours per week and a number of hours preceding an academic day. I have heard it pronounced something like "25 tac 4". If they are getting high grades on the tests, then they can get the mandatory hours reduced. If the grades aren't so high, the mandatory hours go up. It is a pretty effective way of working out how much they need to study. The lower numbers end up being more about flexibility and trust than not having to study so much.
WearsLargeHats: Thank you! We are trying to make plans for that weekend, but it is hard without being able to contact each other very much and not knowing all the rules yet. I'm trying to get as much information as possible, so I can be prepared. Breaking any rules is the last thing we would want to do! Thank you very much!
WearsLargeHats - Thank you for the information about the Christmas break. I will pass it along to my son. He's just beginning "A" school now so I know he will be there during this holiday. : )
Eric's Mom, he will get the standard 10-day standdown that everyone else gets...unless his grades are waaaaaaaaaaay below where they should be. The entire school shuts down.
Regarding grad from Prototype - Ballston Spa has a very brief ceremony of presenting the graduation certificates. My son, who graduated from Goose Creek PT, did not have any kind of ceremony...just "you passed, here's your certificate, get outta here."
This Friday, there will be a ceremony for GC Prototype graduation on the USS Yorktown. I really wish I could make it. But my sailor is coming home next week! Can't wait to see him. :)
CEWnukegf, you should be able to spend some time with your guy, though there is always some possibility of a SNAFU. When we visited our son last year for Veteran's Day, one of his suitemates joined us for a Saturday outing. He had just done PIR the day before, so I know it is possible. Timing can't be planned, but you will meet him at the Fletcher Rd. Subway, and return back there well in advance of curfew. I just remarked on the rules because that is something to get used to. If you live close to Charleston, meeting him on the weekend is a good plan -- you will get to spend more time with him that way than you likely would after PIR.
