really missing my recruit this morning.  She went to GL mid to late Aug.  Still haven't heard from her yet.  Will we get a phone call during BC ? No phone call or letter yet. :(

  • LucasMom

Is there a fb group for STG parents?

  • Jackie

There's a fb group called Navy STG Loved Ones
  • Meggysmom

My daughter is a SR. She is to be a STG. I am wondering about the school.

  • Jackie

Bablin the school will be in San Diego
  • Meggysmom

She enlisted for 6 yrs and I've seen that she has a school to attend in great lakes before San Diego. Can someone explain that to me please. My daughter had only told me that she would go to her 'A' school after finishing boot camp
  • mom2stg

After PIR, she will have a basic electronics class, called ATT.  The class is 6 weeks in GL.   However, it is likely that she will be in "hold" until the class is full.  A handful of ratings take this ATT course.  After completion of ATT, she will go to San Diego for A school followed by C school, also in San Diego.  While in ATT, she will have approximately 3 roommates, and the course is computer-based.

  • mom2stg

This ATT course and C school are specifically for 6-year contracts.  4-year STG's will report directly to A school in San Diego after PIR.

  • Meggysmom

Thank you mom2stg. That helps me out a lot.

  • mom2stg

    Absolutely!   Happy to help.  :)

SO I got a call from my fiancé today, and he said his A school would only be 6weeks in GL and then 1.5 years in SD for B school , I was just wondering how accurate that is, as we are getting married after A school.

  • Jenn PIR 5/30 Ship 4 Div 188

Yes, school in GL is 6 weeks. Keep in mind he may not start his school as soon as he gets there. He may be on hold while they wait for the class to fill up. My husband had to wait several weeks before he could start. In SD, he wasn't there 1.5 years... He was there from September thru Mid July.
  • abuon18

Like Jenn said they don't always start class right away so even though the class time is 6 weeks or however long they could be there longer because that is not including hold times.

Once they complete ATT in GL they go to San Diego for A school then C school. A school us the same then they are separated into different C school classes depending on the system they will learn. 1.5 years is really an estimate. Some systems have a longer school some is shorter. Again there are hold times where they are in between actual classes - waiting for their class to have enough students to start usually or if it's too close to holidays they will wait until after.

My husband started ATT in GL in September and went to San Diego in November (2011). He finished all of his schooling in May 2013 and then remained in San Diego on hold until he got orders to his first ship in July 2013.

    Thanks ladys

Hello everyone! My daughter is a 6yr STG, She is currently in ATT school then off to San Diego in March. I went to Great Lakes this past weekend to spend some time with her. We had a blast. She seems to really like her roommates. She is loving her experience.

  • Kim

Hi Kimberly, I think our girls are on the same schedule!
  • lizzylou191

Does everyone stay for ATT in Great Lakes? My fiance hasn't mentioned it at all and has said he won't have lots of time before his flight after graduation...but everyone in this group seems to stay in GL for a while.

  • abuon18

Lizzylou, only those who have signed a 6 year contract will stay in GL for ATT. Thise who have signed a 4 yesr contract will fly out the Saturday after PIR for San Diego.
  • lizzylou191

    thanks aboun18! That makes sense.

  • abuon18

    You're welcome :)
  • Bchgrl68

How long are they in GL after PIR? My daughter is a 6 year STG.
  • Kimberly

They are here about 2 months. I am here visiting my daughter now.
  • Bchgrl68

    Thank you!
  • Kimberly

Good morning ladies. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter holiday. I would like to thank all the ladies for being here with me through this journey. At first I did not think it was gonna be possible to get through my only daughter leaving for boot camp. But with the help of the ladies here it wasnt so bad after all. My daughter should have graduated 1-8-16, howerever she did not pass her run so she was sent to fit and after a week in there she passed. She is now almost finished with ATT school now and will be leaving for school in San Diego in about 2 weeks. I have been to visit her in Great Lakes 4 times since she left for boot camp. The first time was Christmas Day through the Adopt A Sailor program which was the best Christmas gift ever! The last time was just this month on th 19th. This visit was awesome as well because she actually had phased up and was able to stay at the hotel with me all weekend. I met a few of her classmates and a few of her shipmates as well. It was a amazing weekend. Cant wait to visit her in San Diego. Once they get out of boot camp and have their phones back it gets sooooooo much easier!

Good morning! My daughter is on her way to San Diego - ready to start this next phase of her adventure. Hoping to connect with moms and keep in touch.
  • Kimberly

My Daughter has been in San Diego for almost 2 weeks now and is loving it. Doing a lot of volunteer work until classes start. Stuff such as cleaning the beach, working with homless, and The Ronald McDonald House. She will be coming home on leave for about 10 days before classes start. Im so ready to see her.
  • JoeysMom

Anybody have someone at Whidbey island in Washington State? My son got orders to go. He has been at Point Loma , San Diego since last Oct. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten feedback from their Sailors?
  • mysailorson

    Hi Joeysmom!
My son has been an STG on a ship for five years but got transferred to shore duty on whidbey June 2016. The island and surrounding area is beautiful! My son thinks it is a bit to quite compared to ship life. Whidbey is full of sailors and their families. Many outdoor activities are available if he likes that type of adventure.
Hope he enjoys it! And you should definitely visit.
  • JoeysMom

Excellent as we have a farm in Maine. Joe will appreciate the opportunity to base there as he isnt a big fan of the city. After Spending the last year in San Diego, this will be refreshing for him!!! He hears so many negative things from Sailors coming off of fleet about ship life, it would be great if I had some positive things to tell him. T-AGOS being civi ships and stg only is already great for him to know but if you can think of anything else I can tell him i.e. food, sleeping quarters, anything that is different than a regular ship, where they don't get much time to spend on their own rate, would be so helpful. Thank you

Mine is on Whidbey.  Their schedule is way different than being on a ship.  It's a beautiful place.  Canada is just a hop, skip and a jump away.

  • daysia

Good afternoon my son is a STG in Japan
  • Meggysmom

My daughter is in San Diego still waiting on her school to start
  • Kimberly

Hello everyone my daughter is in San Diego finished A-school. She has been on holds since August waiting for C-school to start in March.
  • baby25811

Hi everyone. My daughter finished At school in San Diego and her next ship is in San Diego.
  • phoebe stg2

San Diego for another few years. Love having him back in the states!
  • Sharla

My daughter is an STG 3rd Class PO on a destroyer based in Norfolk, currently deployed in the Middle East. She's been in for 3 and a half years.
  • jillymom

My son is on a destroyer stationed at Pearl Harbor; this is good as we live on the Big Island. They keep him extremely busy; he is a 6 yr. I'm wondering how the new ratings change will affect our Sailor's job assignments. Very confusing as they are specifically trained.

  • Silvie

Hi, does anybody has information on stg graduation ceremony on May-19th?

  • boogieboysmom

Does anyone know if sailors would go straight to a ship after completing A school in San Diego? Would they not need to complete C school first before being sent to a ship?

  • abuon18

Depends if they signed a 4 year or 6 year contract. 4 years only go to A school; 6 years go on to C school before receiving their first set of orders.
  • boogieboysmom

Ok, He signed for 6 years (5 active, 1 year of reserves).  Thank you for the information.

  • abuon18

    You're welcome!
  • mom2stg

My sailor signed for 6 years and was sent to ship at the completion of A-School. I believe orders to his ship were for 28 months. He is expecting C-School afterwards. I think it just depends on what the Navy needs when.
  • Kimberly

My daughter its a 6 yr, she is in C school now getting ready to finish and go to the ship. All of her schooling will be completed prior to going to the ship however many of the other have gone to the fleet after finishing A school.
  • boogieboysmom

Ok, so it sounds like there are many different possibilities of what could happen.  He sent me a text and said that he will be going on to his C school and then the goal was to get him on a ship before the end of the year. Thank you all for the information.

  • MyAwesome2

Do a majority of the SNT spend their time on a ship?

  • MyAwesome2

My son is in bc in greater lakes and will be heading to A school in SD afterwards

  • runnermom

Just waiting patiently for his class to fill so he can begin training.

  • horizon2018

My son is currently in BC.  His contract is 6 years (4 active 2 reserve).  His recruiter told him he would be flying out the Saturday following PIR to SD for A-school, but another Navy mom said he would be staying at GL for a few more weeks then to SD.  I was just curious what other STG mom's have experienced.
