DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in February

My son left for RTC today!!!  Bittersweet.

Moms, you are doing great! Its a moment of many emotions, but the one I am remembering a week later is how proud I was seeing him take those first steps into a new world!

I got the letter, my son left on 2/4. PIR date is April 10...that's a Thursday I thought graduations were Fridays. Anyone else got that date?

jr, this was posted on FB by USN Navy Recruit Training Command: RTC FRIENDS: It has come to the attention of the Public Affairs Office that recent form letters were sent out with the wrong graduation date. The correct graduation date for divisions 125 thru 134 and division 921 is 4 April, 2014.

Got my box tonight!  But still no letter. Assuming we'll be part of the 4/4/14 PIR.  I know this is silly to share but daughter was hoping to keep her own (white) sports bras.  EVERYTHING was in the box.  Even her toothbrush, shampoo, deo....was surprised to see that.  ...Maybe our recruiters sent mixed signals.

Box - Yes Letter - No.....

Normally I'm a patient person, just can't move forward until I get that magic little letter with that special little date.....

Hi Caolila- I have a son who is at boot camp but I remember reading that the only thing they will let ladies keep is feminine products. I am sure that when she writes she will tell you to bring all of that back when you come for PIR. I am pretty sure that she is allowed to have it in A school. I also remember reading that you are allowed to send a couple of things a wek or so before PIR. Look it up, but I think it was modest lip glass , and maybe blush? I also thin that all of us are allowed to send a pair of contacts for them to wear(if needed)...does anyone know the answer to that?

Yes, NavyMomx2NavyWife- if they do not come with glasses then they issue them the "regulation" ones. My son just went ahead and wore his and not contacts. I am almost positive that we can send a pair of contacts for graduation....Also they might let them use them in the photo? I think they let the ladies wear a little bit of makeup in their photos. This all so new to me and I am just trying to learn as I go!

Got my box tonight too, but hubby working the night shift so waiting til morning to open.  Think I'm too excited to sleep!

Liberty - I appreciate the comments on contacts/makeup.  My daughter had some list that her recruiters had given her.  But I bet the rest of her learnings came from blogs or other chat sites, probably full of incorrect info.  She did ask her recruiters about the make up and they broke down laughing and told her this wasn't a 'fashion show'.  :)  I'll check on sending some make up before PIR.  Thanks so much. 

Hello all! I'm a newbie to Navyformoms.com! My son left for BC on 02/05 and received the box today! Any other moms out there who's kid left on the same day? Anyone receive letters with PIR dates yet? I'm anxious..but I know, "no news, is good news.."

HawaiiKat, mine left the 5th also. Got my call around 10 that night. Box arrived today....but no letter yet.....

29junkie, augh the waiting game begins then for us. Same here, got the call around 10ish as well. Which airport did he leave from? My son left from San Jose, CA

Left outta Great Falls MT connecting through SLC. He said he didn't think anyone else was on the plane with him...tho I doubt that!

LOL, ok! I think my son left with 7 other people although I think some of them were reserves. Welp, if anyone else gets letters..keep us posted!!

I got box today!!  Was so happy!  Now just waiting for the letter!!  My son left on the 5th.  I got the short call that night.  Been writing letters almost every day.  He will have a book to read by the time I get the letter!!

@ BusyMom13, how did you find out his Div number and PIR?

Ah thanks BusyMom13..maybe I'll call his recruiter to see if he heard anything too. Hopefully I'll get a letter soon too..I'm in Hawaii and well..overnight shipping just doesn't exist here..or at least that's how I feel.

BusyMom13- I just love that your son wrote on the inside of the box. That was very thoughtful of him to make sure you have a message!

I'm with you 29junkie!  And now that the info in the letter regarding PIR may be wrong..... ugh...

My son got to RTC Monday night, he is Ship 013/ Div 133 according to his recruiter, anyone else???

My son is getting ready to leave on the 18th from Omaha.  Are there any other Mom's out there that will be at MEPS in Omaha on the 18th?  If so please let me know would love to have some home support.  Time has gone so fast it seems just like yesterday he was just thinking about signing up and now he is getting ready to leave:(

The limit of PIR guests is relatively recent....January 2013, I think?  If their are 12 or less divisions in the training group, 4 guests per graduate are allowed to attend graduation. If it's 13 or more divisions, then it's limited to 3 guests per graduate. RTC will confirm those numbers. The small amount of money is indeed for food or snacks prior to arriving at boot.

Lu P, yes that is just about what all I was told it would be needed for.  But I gave him a book of stamps to put in his wallet and he was given a food voucher to use while at MEPS, and the Navy is just about providing everything else they will need when they get there.  My SR setup his bank account before he left, so when he gets paid, he'll be able to access that too. 

And if they haven't setup an account, I think that is one of the first things they do when they get there.

Got a call from my son's recuiter..he's Ship 02, division 921. PIR 4/4/14..YAY!! Anyone else out there with the same ship/div?

HawaiiKat - nope, but I got a call from our recruiter and out daughter is ship 9, division 129.

Still no letter tonight.  Also, second call to the recruiter to get the info from him but no return call.  I'm beginning to think they do not have a calling feature on their phones here- I have yet to have them return a call through this entire process.  Trying to be patient.....

My son and several others are stuck because of the storm here in the east. Flights all canceled. They are now scheduled to fly out on Friday.

well he left tuesday, it was the hardest day of my life as watched my boy get on the bus. it was just yesterday that bus was a school bus…now off to boot camp. He was a bundle of nerves when it came time to leave, he said for once in life he was actually terrified. he didn't sleep the night before…i"m so worried about him. we got the call minutes after he arrived at boot camp. I almost missed it , i didn't expect it to be so fast, i'm glad my husband grabbed the phone so fast. so he said he call in three weeks and sounded stressed… so its day two for him today

so does anyone else have loved ones that entered in on 2/11/14 . just wondering if they may be together
