Liberty, it is definately worth it to spend more time with him. :) I feel better now that all arrangements have been made. Hotel booked for another night...I'm using Sarge too, to get me back to the airport.. My return flight is Sunday.
  • Vrybzymom (S14,D136)

My son left NC on the 11th, recevied a box on Saturday - shoes, cell phone, belt - no clothes.  I thought everything had to go home.  Any ideas?

  • NavyMom93

Vrybzymom, he might have donated them, or even thrown them away.  I think they get those choices.

  • Annabel Lee

Vrybzymom- I think they have to pay for whats shipped back, maybe he decided to donate them, or throw them away. He liked those shoes and belt though! :)
  • RuthB13

Vrybzymom they have the choice to donate their clothes and shoes, etc…

my son also left on the 11th , i still haven't received anything :(

DId you read stacy got a call?

  • Annabel Lee

RuthB13- where is Stacy got a call?
  • aznavymom44

Yes, they have option to donate the clothes. That's what my son did too.
  • StacyLHR (14/136)

Yes, Ruth and Annabel, my son also left on the 11th and I got the short bout oh so sweet call that said he was there and safe. Only last a few seconds but was great. It was at 7:30 pm CST. :)
  • JRH (ship 3 Div 137)

My son left on the 11th and I got the box this morning! I am so emotional over dirty clothes!
  • Annabel Lee

JRH, I haven't washed my son's clothes. His jacket and shirt smell like him. Just cant wash them. Slept with the jacket, then put it all back in the box and put it on his bed...
  • 6pakmom

    Box arrived ...
  • Annabel Lee

Congrats 6pakmom! Did he leave you a note? Mine didn't..guess he didn't have time.
  • 6pakmom

4 sentences. admitted he's nervous and scared and misses us. Commented on snow and 1 degree temp -- it's 80 in South Texas today.

  • k10mom (Ship 14, Division 146)

Ok, my daughter leaves Wednesday from Dallas. Anyone else?

  • Annabel Lee

6pakmom, he will be ok.. I'm in East TX. My son isn't used to cold weather either. He just wore a hoodie when he left. Would not take a coat.
  • NavyMom93

My son leaves tomorrow from Michigan.  He's headed to the hotel now!

  • Arkey

My son just left for BC 2/18/2014. Anyone else have a recruit shipping on this day.

  • Mamaof6pack2rSailors

My son left for Great Lakes on 2/11/14...nothing in the mail yet but did receive a call the day of that he/they arrived safely....hanging in there!
  • Ampegv4

My son left February 12th-did get a call waiting for the box now-anxious to make PIR plans but figure we need to wait until we get box/letter-there is sure a lot of good info on this site-very glad it exists!
  • Lisa

My son left us this morning and will fly out to GL tomorrow 2.18.14 from CT. Miss him already, but at least we can text/talk for another full day.  He's so excited and so well adjusted and ready to start boot camp - i know this is going to be harder on me and my husband and daughter than it will be for him!  I hope his positive attitude and energy will carry him through the next 8 weeks.  Good luck to all of you who are in the same boat :)

  • Anita(Zach's mom)

My son left us this morning and was supposed to fly out of Charlotte tomorrow to Great Lakes but he just called and said that he isn't flying out tomorrow it may be Wednesday before he flies out because of the snow. I think I am more nervous than he is. He is so calm about everything. doesn't seem nervous at all!
  • Annabel Lee

Anita that's great that he didn't seem nervous. My son was like that too. Calm as could be...
  • Lu P

My son left 2-11-14, and his BOX ARRIVED TODAY, via FedEx! I'm so happy, even if it is just his dirty clothes and cellphone...and his cologne??? I dunno how he managed to get through the airport checkpoint with his cologne.  Oh well! I also got his toothbrush, which makes me even more happy!! Seeing one less toothbrush in the bathroom was really taking its toll on me.  No more lonely toothbrush!!! =)

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • Michelle-Reese's Mom (S14, D146)

My son left for Richmond, Va today and will fly out to Great Lakes tomorrow. It was so hard saying goodbye this morning but I'm really excited for him. He said 5 others were going down today with him...
  • NavyMom93

Michelle, my son is on his way to Great Lakes right now.  The last two days have been pretty hard.  This morning we watched him being sworn in, and it was a proud, but very emotional moment for me.  I'm anticipating his call tonight.

  • Arkey

My son is flying out today at 3:15 with two others from Little Rock, Ar. It is 72 degrees.

  • RuthB13

just got my sons box, and i was surprised to see his contacts in there. I know that they are not allowed to keep them but i was told he could wear them until he was fitted for glasses. now i'm worried! My son is blind with out them and gets really bad headaches due to his vision! WTH!  I'm angry now at the recruiter, i would have bought him glasses even though he can't keep them, it would have been worth the $250.00.

  • ProudMominJersey

Well, after a week of bad weather, my son and 12 others who were delayed last week are finally in the air and about half way to Chicago!!!! We saw him sworn in last week and then his flight was canceled 2 times and was he was brought home on Friday. As nice as it was to have him around, he had set his sights for his future and was disappointing to not have been on his way.  I'm looking forward to hearing from him tonight. After looking at that long face all weekend, I know he is where he needs to be!

  • NavyMom93

My son just got to RTC and we just got the call!  He pretty much texted me the whole way there, and I knew when he arrived. He came in on a bus from Detroit.

  • NavyMom93

ProudMominJersey, it's good he finally got off and on his way.  That was a lot of limbo for him and you to be in!

  • Lu P

ProudMominJersey-glad he got there safe! I can relate to the 'long face' of waiting around...my son doesn't like to 'hurry up and wait', which is what seemed to have been the case since he was taken to the hotel the night before flying out.  I just found out today from my son's recruiter that all the recruits from Hawaii arrive in Chicago early in the morning, and don't get picked up until almost 9 p.m.  I can totally see my son, all tired and grumpy, hanging his face!

  • Arkey

Heads up! My son flew into O'Hara got his dinner and reported to the USO. If you can get the word to your recruit not to report until he has to because they have them sitting on the floor, staring out a window, no talking, no texting. They had to put their phones away

  • Lu P

christophersMom-We, too, received the box with a perfectly legible address written on it, something we've never seen from my son before!! hahaha!

  • JRH (ship 3 Div 137)

I am so ready for the form letter. If I could just book the plane tickets I would feel like it is closer.
  • Lu P

JRH- So am I...I just got an address today, and finally sent out 11 letters to my son, most of them were jokes from a local radio station.  I heard from other n4m members who's SR's were delayed by the weather.  I think ProudMominJersey...

  • Vrybzymom (S14,D136)

My son arrived at boot camp February 11 - received 'the box' Saturday - today received the form letter - PIR date April 11- can't wait to write him!
  • Lu P

    Vrybzymom-What is his Ship/Div?

  • Lu P

I didn't get a PIR letter yet, but got the box.  My son left 2-11-14 and he is at Ship 02/ Div 922

  • Lu P

christophersMom-I couldn't believe my son was in a 900 division, unless he got put there because he had 1 year of ROTC in high school.  Its so not like him to be in band/flag/performing anything.

  • Vrybzymom (S14,D136)

    Lu P - ship 14 div 136
  • Lu P

christophersMom-I'm hoping for April 11 as well.  It works for me with my work schedule. After reading about delays here and there, I wonder if the delayed SR's were intended for the groups already there, and if that would be a factor in  their PIR date.

  • Lu P

Vrybzymom-Have fun writing to your son! I spent my morning pre-addressing several envelopes and printing out dozens of pages of jokes to share with other SR's.  I don't want any SR's to go without mail to read. Hopefully I'll get a PIR letter for April 11 as well!

  • Vrybzymom (S14,D136)

    Keep me posted!
  • lemonelephant

Here are the current PIR groups for the February shippers:

PIR: April 11, 2014 TG 22 (starts with division 135 and contains 922)

Click on the date and join to connect with others with loved ones training with your SR.

  • lemonelephant

Lu P, Division 922 is Sticks (Flags). See 800 and 900 Divisions.

  • lemonelephant

RuthB13, the recruits cannot wear contacts during BC except for pictures and PIR, but they can wear appropriate civilian glasses until the BCG's are made. I'm sorry you missed that in Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for.... You can send them back to him later so he can have them for pictures and PIR. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

  • Ampegv4

My son left 2/12 I got the box but no info or letter- I don't know his ship, div or PIR date-any ideas? I can't even send him anything:(
  • lemonelephant

Ampegv4, the form letter will come sometime in the next week--10 days after arrival is average. See Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.
