If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

The box arrived today. I am sad, relieved and surprised that his clothes stunk so bad...and yes his pant legs were rolled up indicating that he was trying on his boots. The best part was the sweet little heart that he had drawn on the bottom of the box and the letter that was folded and placed in the smallest pocket of his jeans. Still sad but feel connected to him again.

Proud momma, Good luck to you! I've cried everyday since he left. I've done much better today though. I never imagined it was going to be this hard for me! I don't even cry when my husband deploys.

Everyone, Make it a habit to check your My Page because you may have comments from Members and not even know it if you have the notifications turned off for comments on your My Page. To reply to someone who leaves a comment on your My Page, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" (you will have to do that if the person has their profile set to "Just My Friends") below the comment. IFlyHeSails, I will be thinking of you today. Sending love and peace. Hang in there, sweetie. I know it hurts beyond what we had expected but every day is another day closer to a phone call , a letter and PIR! Someone on here shared the idea of putting out a litttle flag every Friday to help count down until PIR. I put mine in a flowerpot and it really does remind me that Fridays arrive quickly, doesnt dimish the hurting of my heart, but does help me to be positive.

If you have not received "the box" and will not be home, be sure to leave a signed and dated note on your door for the FedEx driver to leave a package from Great Lakes. Otherwise, the driver will leave a note for you. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

USNwifeIL - Thanks for the heads up. I got home today and low and behold..."the box" was waiting. I was surprised she shipped back her navy sack too, her phone, her running shoes, undergarments, socks....literally everything she arrived with. They literally keep only their i.d., social security card and maybe their atm card that I can see. I've heard I can bring her phone and sack/makeup back at graduation, but I'll wait for confirmation from her/others.

LaDasha, it will take several days for mail to get to your recruit. Mail first goes to a Post Office in the area. Then it is sorted by the ZIP Code and +4 into tubs. Then it goes to the RTC where it is sorted by a mail clerk who only works a regular shift each weekday M-F. Mail is delivered to the recruits at Mail Call each evening Monday through Friday once a Mail Petty Officer is trained beginning on 1-3 or 1-4 DOT. That said, write often because mail means so much to the recruits. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.
