The gamma globulin injection is also know as the peanut butter shot. See more on that and more in What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology).

  • LaDasha

Still no form letter. :( Hopefully it comes tomorrow
  • akb115

Got the box today! He left 2/16

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

  • lemonelephant

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

@lemonelephant they actually said it was a bicillin (antibiotic) shot to prevent strep and other infections because they are in such closed quarters. But because of his allergy they are going to do erythromycin. It was scary though I was afraid to answer lol.
  • lemonelephant

NavyMom77 the take very good care of the recruits and they try to prevent illness.

The box arrived today. I am sad, relieved and surprised that his clothes stunk so bad...and yes his pant legs were rolled up indicating that he was trying on his boots. The best part was the sweet little heart that he had drawn on the bottom of the box and the letter that was folded and placed  in the smallest pocket of his jeans. Still sad but feel connected to him again.

  • lemonelephant

    Blondefaith, aw, that is sweet.

  • Monica

Trying to learn how to use this site. Sorry if I'm responding on someone else's post. My son arrived at boot camp on wed. 2/17/16, anyone else??

USNwifeIL, Cool nice to know someone that will have the same dates! I'm also a Navy wife:)

Proud momma, Good luck to you! I've cried everyday since he left. I've done much better today though. I never imagined it was going to be this hard for me! I don't even cry when my husband deploys.

It has been 4 days and it feels like forever. I cant wait for my call to hear his voice saying he is doing ok :(
  • ProudNukeMom

Monica, my son arrived on 2/17 also. I miss home so very much!
  • Rosette

Iflyhesails I feel the same way. I went into his room and cried for 10 minutes. I was hoping to get his box in today. My son also left Wednesday. Are you going to PIR?
  • Blondefaith

I'm with you NavyMom77. It has been since Tuesday but it seems much longer and my house feel so empty :(

  • Blondefaith

IFlyHeSails, I will be thinking of you today. Sending love and peace. Hang in there, sweetie. I know it hurts beyond what we had expected but every day is another day closer to a phone call , a letter and PIR! Someone on here shared the idea of putting out a litttle flag every Friday to help count down until PIR. I put mine in a flowerpot and it really does remind me that Fridays arrive quickly, doesnt dimish the hurting of my heart, but does help me to be positive.

  • Proud momma

I just got my last hugs from my son.he's on his way to a Hotel by Meps here in Michigan and reprocesses tomorrow and off to RTC. My heart hurts.. I'm very proud and excited for him but just so emotional.
  • Monica

@proud momma, we're in Michigan too. We actually drove down to Lansing and were able to take my son out to dinner one last time! Probably harder on me, I sure didn't want to let him go into that hotel!
  • Proud momma

@Monica when did your son go and what field is he going into?
  • Rosette

@iflyhesails that's aweaome. I am from San Diego. I love Chicago. Although I love the downtown area I'll be looking to staying closer to great lakes. Maybe at the Hilton still doing homework until I have a date finalized
  • My'sMom

I got the form letter. Ship 6, Div 147. PIR on April 8..

I have written letters everyday since he left, I have to separate them into multiple envelopes to mail them.

  • Monica

He went in on the 17th, field advanced electronics
  • Proud momma

I wish you and your son all the best

Hi Everyone ! I got my son's box today with his cel phone and jeans rolled up ! He left for GL on Feb 17. Now just waiting for his paperwork with his PIR date And Address ! I miss him so much but I know in my heart he's ok ! Prayers for all recruits and families !!
  • lemonelephant

If you have not received "the box" and will not be home, be sure to leave a signed and dated note on your door for the FedEx driver to leave a package from Great Lakes. Otherwise, the driver will leave a note for you. Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

  • Proud momma

Waiting for the call...its getting real and hard
  • Monica

Got my box today, yay! My sailor arrived on the 17th, for those looking out. Sure didn't smell very good. Emotionally, I did surprisingly well. Hope I'm done being an emotional wreck by the time his call comes in. I certainly don't want to get on the phone and start balling and make him sad!
  • Najul

My daughter arrived on the 17th too, no box for us yet.  Waiting for the box/call ...finding out I'm not very patient!

  • Najul

I thought I was all good, but have been a nervous wreck too.  Trying to get it together for the call.

  • Najul

we aren't close to RTC, so perhaps another day or too.  Thanks for sharing USNwifeIL.

  • Proud momma

@IFlyHeSails stay positive. Maybe it's just they need info he doesn't have. Praying for you and your son.
  • SailorSalon mom

Iflyhesails Prayers and stay positive ! I'm not sure but my nephew was in Bc in the army and they allowed calls home as a reward if he did well ! Stay strong !
  • NavyMom77

So my son shipped on Tuesday 4/16 box on Friday 4/19 and letter today 4/22. His PIR is 04/08/16. That was quicker than expected!! Letters going out tomorrow :)
  • Monica

Sending good vibes your way!, IFlyHeSails
  • Proud momma

Got my I'm here call..now can't wait for his box and letter
  • Najul

USNwifeIL - Thanks for the heads up.  I got home today and low and behold..."the box" was waiting.  I was surprised she shipped back her navy sack too, her phone, her running shoes, undergarments,  socks....literally everything she arrived with. They literally keep only their i.d., social security card and maybe their atm card that I can see.  I've heard I can bring her phone and sack/makeup back at graduation, but I'll wait for confirmation from her/others.

  • Proud momma

@Garysmom. Hopefully soon. God bless you all too
  • LaDasha

I live about an hour and a half-2 hours away from RTC. Approximately how long may it take for my SR to receive my mail?
  • lemonelephant

LaDasha, it will take several days for mail to get to your recruit. Mail first goes to a Post Office in the area. Then it is sorted by the ZIP Code and +4 into tubs. Then it goes to the RTC where it is sorted by a mail clerk who only works a regular shift each weekday M-F. Mail is delivered to the recruits at Mail Call each evening Monday through Friday once a Mail Petty Officer is trained beginning on 1-3 or 1-4 DOT. That said, write often because mail means so much to the recruits. See Letter Writing & Fun Stuff/Questionnaires to send to your Recruit.

  • Proud momma

@Garysmom yay glad you got your call now we both sit and wait for the next phase.
  • lemonelephant

Arrival and What Happens at the RTC will let you know what is happening and what to expect.
