my son's recruiter told me that if the letter was not received in +/- 10 days to contact him and he would have been able to help me with the address.

Hello Everyone,
My DEPPER left Feb. 21st. I got my form letter and THE BOX...I was doing good until the box came. It tugged at my heart a bit. My Son is on Ship 03 Division 125 and his PIR date is April 21st.
Does anyone else have a recruit in this division?

Kinber, yes. See the info in Division T-Shirts, Graduation Photos, The Keel, and DVD of PIR.

Well, we were originally told DEP until February, but my son met with his recruiter this week and said it will most likely be September now but we probably won't know for sure until August. He said it depends on getting security clearance, but since my son's never even had so much as a traffic ticket I'm guessing Sep will be a go....

I have a son at boot camp now, and I have one leaving in Febrauary if not sooner. He signed a DARR, so we are praying that the job he wants opens.

Those of you with kids heading for boot camp after January 1 will want to read this:
Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp
Beginning Jan. 1, Recruit Training Command (RTC), the Navy's only boot camp, will require recruits to pass an initial run standard before they may commence basic military training.
The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits.
If a recruit fails to meet the initial run standard, they will have one chance to retest within 48 hours. If they fail the retest, recruits will be discharged from the Navy with an entry level separation, which allows them to reapply at a later date with a waiver from Navy Recruiting Command

My son is scheduled to leave for boot camp on Feb 8. It looks like I won't find out his graduation until a couple of weeks after he leaves. We would like to go to his graduation. Do people usually buy airline tickets after they get the date? It seems like it would be hard to find a good price with little notice. TIA

blackbirdmom
Most people wait a bit before booking flights, unless they are refundable or can be changed. This is because things happen, and your sailor's graduation date can be pushed back. Our son-in-law entered boot camp last Feb. He ended up being in a push division and graduating 8 Fridays later instead of the usual nine. Go ahead and start your planning, such as booking your hotel, things that can be change if possible.

But what about all we have read about BC lasting 13 weeks versus 8-9. I would say wait. My son is also shipping out on Feb. 8 but I am totally unsure as to how long BC will really be. We are in the same "boat." :)
Jan 23, 2018
blackbirdmom
This is a rumor that has been going around for years. BC is not 13 weeks. If your sailor passes everything, he/she will graduate 8 or 9 Fridays from their arrival. It is always advised that you wait on booking plane tickets, or at least booking tickets that can be easily changed. Boot Camp Moms group is extremely helpful.

Hi NikkiKL if that is His ship date , that might be the Day he swears in and then Heads to BC. I would speak to his Recruiter on that. That means the night before he will be sent to the Hotel and check in last Day for you to have family say their good Bye's goes back to Hotel, in the morning he will swear in and then bussed to airport. I will leave you some info on your my page for things to do before he leaves and so on. Welcome to the site you will find a great deal of info and be able to share with the ladies. this site is like one big Family. Glad to have you along.

lisap, be sure it is small enough that it will easily fit in her "Valuables Sock", which is a white tube sock. A regular slim men's wallet that will easily fit in a pocket usually works well.

Can recruits take anything to BC with them?
Recruits should go with what they have on their backs, their cell phones, and not much else. (See Things to Do in the Last Month Before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....)

Just an FYI, if you have a Loved one that just barely left for BC, depending on the time they arrive at Great lakes you will receive the I'm here call, it may be late in the evening, you want to keep the phone close. these calls can come with an area code 847 or a different one, the reason being is they may be using another's cell phone if they hadn't taken theirs.
Soon after your recruit arrives at the RTC, s/he will be permitted to make the “I’m here!” call. It will be short (30 seconds or less--10 to 20 seconds is average) and to the point. "I made it. I'm here. I'm fine. Look for a box in a few days and a letter in about a week. I will try to call in about 3 weeks. Love ya. I gotta go." (Sometimes the recruits say 2 weeks instead.) Recruits are sometimes given up to 2 minutes for this call, but many still stick with the four pieces of information that they have to relay and cut the call short. This call can come at any time, even in the wee hours of the morning for some depending on the flight or bus schedule. If your recruit took a cell phone with him or her, then this will be the last call from that phone before you receive it back in "the box" a few days later. Sometimes a recruit does not get to make this call if s/he did not take a cell phone or his/her cell phone battery is dead because the recruits now must use a cell phone for this call and there is not always time for everyone to make the call on a borrowed cell phone. There are no phone banks at Inprocessing.

Phoenixmom
If you have a phone call from the 847 area code, or US GOVERNMENT, or PRIVATE CALL, or RESTRICTED, or PAY PHONE, or WITHHELD, or UNAVAILABLE or ATT CALLING CARD, be sure to answer!!! (It is possible that a Recruit could call from another area code as well--773, 224, 312, 872 are all area codes in that area.)

As for the Box when it comes to your home someone needs to be there to accept it. if not they will leave a note for you to pick it up, I do not believe they will bring it again.
You may be able to leave a signed and dated note for FedEx to leave the box without a signature, but you may need to have the form from FedEx that indicates it is permitted. You can also go to www.fedex.com/us/delivery and set up the delivery options. FedEx used to leave the box without a signature, but since most of them contain a cell phone now, they must have a signature unless directed to leave the box without a signature. Other loved ones have been able to go by a FedEx office and sign a form that permits the driver to leave a box arriving from GL or Waukegan, IL without a signature. If there is nothing on file with FedEx, the driver will leave a note on the first delivery attempt that has a place for you to sign if you want the driver to leave the box on the next attempt without a signature. Some recruits trash or donate the clothes that were worn to the RTC rather than paying for sending them home, but if your recruit took a cell phone with him/her, you will receive "the box" or you may receive a large padded FedEx envelope rather than a box. (Look for the cell phone in one shoe and the battery in the other shoe or in separate pockets.)

found this information.
Navy officials announced today that, starting Jan. 1, 2018, the service will implement an initial run test that all recruits will have to pass in order to begin recruit training.
A mile and a half will have to be covered, for men, in under 16 minutes and 10 seconds, and under 18 minutes and 7 seconds for women, the Navy said.

TmansMom, your recruit will probably have PIR on 04/06/2018. Once someone receives The Form Letter and/or the divisions for that TG are posted in http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/tg_grad_dates.html, then FTLW or ellen will create the group for TG 22. The link will be posted here and in Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones). It will probably be up next week sometime.
You are in the right place to make connections for now.

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, then be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

My son leaves in a week for boot camp, 2/20/18. I woke up the other morning praying, and I told God that I am just not ready! I know he needs to grow, so I am supporting him any way that I can. I guess we all put on that "brave" face when it is time for them to go... blessings and prayers to all <3

Called the recruiter today for his address and GD only to be told he will get back to me cause he doesn't have it yet. Ugh!! I just wanna mail this letter out so he knows he is thought of. I didn't write ANYTHING sad..kept it more journal like talking about what was going on and such.
So ..I think I am doing everything right so far....I just miss him sooo much!
So..I am wondering..are we allowed to send care packages or just letters? When do I book a hotel? I am on a serious budget..are there cheapest ones?
Thanks everyone and hoping to meet some of you in April (i think the 13th)!

Hi allaboutdabeach and welcome. I can understand the emotions at the swearing in, I held it in until I got in the Elevator and tears started. We usually ask Mothers to wait until you the form letter, although the Recruiter may have it, it may have to much information that is not needed. No packages allowed to be sent to BC, you will receive his Box with his clothes, some Ladies call it the Kid in the box, then a few weeks later you will receive the form letter. I will put info on your my page for you to look over. Welcome and Congratulations to your New SR.

It is best to wait for the form letter before mailing letters to your recruit, but if you do get an address from your recruit's recruiter, double-check the address the recruiter gave you against those at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/contact.html#contact.

Know that letters mailed before you get the form letter do not get to your recruit much quicker, if at all, than letters mailed after receiving the form letter because the recruits cannot receive mail until they are in their permanent ship and a Recruit Mail Petty Officer has been trained in how to handle mail, which means it is usually sometime in the third week or later (1-3 or 1-4 DOT) when they start receiving mail depending on when P-days ended and the division formed.
