Vickie, that is great. Be sure to get him a new phone charger before PIR.

  • Abeckyes

Vickie, I received the "S" box today too... but I can't even open it. I was doing ok for the past 3 day- now the tears are just falling.

  • Amber

Abeckyes. I'm so with you. We all know what they are doing is so admirable but as a mom it is so hard. I was not expecting it so soon. I found when I opened it it wasn't as hard as when I first saw the box. When we receive the letter that will be the next tearjerker. Hang in there and let yourself cry.

My son left this morning for basic training. Proud parents watched him swear in before leaving. We miss him already!
  • Amber

Congratulations. Today was a big day for your family. It's hard not to miss them.
  • MarineWifeFutureSailorMom

Hey everyone! My son left on the 21st and I miss him terribly! I'm new to this site and really have no clue what I'm doing, yet. I'm sure I'll catch on soon! ((((((Hugs)))))) to everyone!
  • Namaste

My recruit is leaving tomorrow, may 25th. Any others with that ship date?

  • April

Congrats on your son shipping out tomorrow! My son shipped out today. Now I'm just waiting for the I'm here call. I know his flight made it to the airport. Hes nervous but excited and the good bye was tough but not as bad as i thought it might be. Hang in there. They are more capable than we know and before we know it they'll be boot camps grads!

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, then be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3; make change 4 if your profile pic includes your future Sailor or recruit) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

  • lemonelephant

I have left info on some of your My Pages about your recruit's (or future Sailor's) rating (job/occupational specialty) or field and "A" School. If anyone else needs this info, leave a comment on my My Page with the rating or field and I will comment back on your My Page. I have info on every rating and field. I also have that info for the PACT programs.

  • lemonelephant

Everyone, Make it a habit to check your My Page because you may have comments from Members and not even know it if you have the notifications turned off for comments on your My Page. To reply to someone who leaves a comment on your My Page, click on "Comment Back" or "View Thread" below the comment. Also check in the upper left to see if you have Friend requests or any new messages in your Inbox.

Hey everyone! My son left this past Monday, the 22nd and I just received his box via FedEx. I can't believe it came so quickly!
  • Daisy12

My son leaves this Tuesday- i feel like i/m near tears every other minute! Working on controlling these emotions! Anyone else have someone leaving next week?

  • SHIP 5 Mom

I just wanted to give a big "Thank You" to the moderators...I can only imagine that week after week you see the same questions, concerns and worries and you gently guide each one of us without a single virtual sigh of, "not again". For all of us on this journey for the first time, you are our lifelines.
  • jberg12

Cj, my son left May 25. We received his box yesterday, hope to get the form letter soon.

  • Polymom22

We missed our son's box yesterday because it required a signature and everyone was at work. FedEx will try delivering again today so I signed a signature waiver and delivery instructions so box is left on the patio. FedEx has an app that allows you to electronically sign or just sign on note left on door. Hope this helps. Son left 5/23.
  • lemonelephant

Anne, he will be paid from the time he was sworn in yesterday. It will not affect anything else. He will be placed in a division that is forming or filling today.

  • tutorlady

My son shipped on May 23.  Got the form letter on 5/30.  The box on 5/31. Got my first REAL letter today!111  It was postmarked 6/5 9 Monday.  Happy Day!!!!

The I’m here call is very short and rehearsed. They are only allowed to say like 4 sentences and are told what to say.

  • Phoenixmom

To guesstimate the PIR date, count 9 Fridays after your recruit arrived to get the most likely PIR (graduation) date, but then know that it could be the week before if s/he is placed in one of the last divisions from the previous week and is in a "Push Division"

When to Expect Your Form Letter

This is for the ones waiting on the form letter.

Mrs. Hooyahsuzy put this together because of changes of form letter being sent.

  • thmapa

Just found out that if your future sailor earned their Gold Award or Eagle Scout in Girl/Boy Scouts, be sure their recruiter knows.  They go through BC at a higher rank

  • lemonelephant

thmapa, yes, you are correct. See E-1, E-2, or E-3? How did that happen?.

  • Boo's Mom

My son left for Boot Camp on May 1.  Anyone else have someone leave this week

  • Boo's Mom

I can't believe it.  his box arrived this morning!  My husband was home to sign for it since I was 4 hours away closing out his apartment.  when I opened it it had a copy of all his navy paperwork.  Is that normal or did he panic and pack it by mistake?

  • Amber

I don’t remember any paperwork in my sons.

  • Phoenixmom

If there are any questions please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank You.

  • DiggasMom

My son left VA today, off to bootcamp. I’m still waiting on the “I made it” phone call. I just found out there was a delay in the flight? Will the phone call come from his cell phone or what? Are they allowed to keep the cell phone during the flights? I’m so anxious to know what is going on.
  • lemonelephant

Digga, he will keep his cell phone until he puts it in "the box" and sends it home after making the "I'm here!" call soon after he arrives at the RTC. Hopefully he turned off his phone during the flight so he still has power when he arrives.

  • DiggasMom

When will I be able to send letters? Today is the hardest day..this day seems more difficult then him leaving yesterday. I have no idea what’s going on and unable to communicate with him I don’t have an address a phone number etc. I don’t know if he’s ok if he needs anything how his day went ... all this waiting is the worst. If I can just hear him say “ma I’m ok” ... this is going to be harder then I expected to be. I’m really trying not to think about his absence buts it’s hard
  • lemonelephant

Digga, you will be able to send letters when you receive The Form LetterArrival and What Happens at the RTCwithinBoot Camp Moms (and loved ones)will let you know what is happening and what to expect.

"No news is good news!" Here are some things that you do know: he is safe; he is physically fit or will be getting there; he is learning new things that will help him throughout his life; he is being fed well; he has any medical and dental needs taken care of; he is making friends; and you know where he is since he is at the RTC. If there was a problem, he will call and that is not a call you want to receive. You have placed him in the best hands of all--those of God and the US Navy.

  • Dr. Von

Hi all - My only son left for bootcamp on Tuesday (May 8th).  He went to bootcamp 4 years ago but was medically released.  He had to come home and have surgery to fix a birth defect found by the naval doctor which literally saved his life.  Now he has gone back in.  I'm thrilled and proud but also emotional.  He has worked so hard to get back in and now I've learned the PT requirements have changed and that if he doesn't pass his run immediately he'll be sent back home again and that's it.  That would mean 4 years of work for nothing.  In short, I'm terrified.  He's in much better physical shape than when he went in 4 years ago, but what if he cramps or freezes or whatever?!  I hear they do their first run on the 5th business day which would mean he'll do his first run on Tuesday (in 3 days).  I'm literally praying every day that he makes it.  I want so much for him to be successful.  He has worked so hard and this is his dream.  Just writing this note has me in tears so I'll sign off.  Anyway, sending prayers to our future sailors that they remember to relax and "run happy".  God bless you all and our wonderful children who have chosen to serve our great nation.

  • lemonelephant

(((((Dr. Von))))) That's a cyber hug for you. Hopefully he has been working out and went to the RTC ready to train and things will go well for him this time.

kuuipo, The Form Letter now arrives around ten to fourteen business days after the recruit's arrival at the RTC, so you should be getting it next week. It will tell you your recruit's address and PIR date and other important information. Keep it in a safe place.

My SR arrived May 16. I received a call from Fed Ex that my SR's package was attempted delivery today to the incorrect address! We have lived at same residence for 10 years, my SR must have been nervous while writing our address:) They will attempt delivery again tomorrow. Anyone else receive "the box" today?
