This site has great info. click on the top for recruits and it will let you know what to expect, the trainings also the P-days if you want to follow along. this site will take you all the way to graduation just click at the top it has recruits graduation links.
Received my son's box today! Bittersweet. I have not opened it, but knowing I have it is good enough for now:-)
he has been at bootcamp for 6 days now, tomorrow will be 1 week completed. I am sure he is doing great as he trained for 6 months prior, but you still cannot be fully prepared for the experience. I write daily in a "journal" (sheets of paper) that I will send to him once I get his address. just 1 long letter with dates to say how the family back home is and how proud we are and we support him from miles away. Miss him crazy! but sooo proud.
That's Great News Sandi thanks for sharing, Yes very bittersweet. if you would like to know hat he has done in the weeks time he has been there I put a link that will give you that info at the top it has links like recruits all the way to graduation and it gives you week by week.
Hello all! My son arrived at RTC last Tuesday, 12/12/17. We received the scripted call at 1945 hrs and received his box on Thursday. If there’s anyone else out there with a family member who started the same time, I’d love to hear from you. Thanks!
@StussyMom, my son also arrived at RTC on the 12th. I accidentally disconnected his scripted call bacause it came after I'd gone to sleep, so I haven't gotten to talk to him yet but we received his box on Saturday. What a mix of emotions I had when I opened it up! I was excited and tearful at the same time. My son is going into nukes. I can't wait to get the form letter to start making plans to see him again!
@MnMsProudMom, congrats on the nuke program. My son is in the Hospital Corpsman program. Hang in there, I’m sure we’ll get our form letters soon. Have a great evening!
Hello All!! My daughter arrived at RTC on the 11th. I received her scripted call 11:45 pm their time, she sounded good, but I know the processing had not begun yet. We received her box on the 13th and was I was happy for her that she is starting this great life changing adventure. We have not received her form letter yet but hoping that will come this week so we can begin to send her letters. She should be done with her P-Days by now. and can't wait to hear from her. I hope to hear from others who's loved one left around this time.
Friends and family of Recruit Training Command, please be advised that as of the first graduation ceremony of 2018 (January 5), we will be adjusting our Recruit Family Welcome Center hours of operation. Our new hours will be Thursday [10:00 AM to 7:30 PM] and Friday [5:30 AM to 8:30 AM]. Please make note, we will no longer open on Wednesday for normal ticketing hours. Thank you.
My son arrived in RTC Dec 11 2017, got "the box" on Saturday 12/16 and experienced that flood of mixed emotions. Waiting for his form letter with mailing info to begin writing
mdun5959 I can relate to those feelings oh so well, and I know it can feel like an eternity to be able to write or to even receive a letter or call. all you can focus on is that he is ok, They always told me No News is Good News but the Not Knowing part is what eats at us. Please know they are working hard to get to the next step, and remember when you see your Son/Daughter at PIR what a different person they will be, So grown and Mature and Looking mighty Handsome/Beautiful in there Uniform! What a sight it will be!
Hello to my Navy Mom's group!! Today was my son's day of final swear in, and flight out! And I just got a text that he has landed!! WOW.. its been a long day.
I am so thankful for all the valuable information on this site- many thank yous to all who keep it up and running!
Good Morning Ladies, hope all is well. Congratulations to your Son/Daughters who have joined the Navy. these sites are to ask whatever it is that you are needing to learn or know. Most of us have already gone through what you are barely going through and yes it is a rough rollercoaster of a ride. please join Boot camp for Loved ones also you will get a lot of info on that site also. Welcome to Navy for Moms. and Congratulations to You and your Family.
This was just posted By Anti M she has great information to give as well as all the ladies on this site.
I know many of you are wishing there was a way to give a gift to your SR in boot camp. One thing to consider is donating to the USO in their name. The USO does a lot for our sailors, including the welcome centers in so many airports, and providing comfort and relief when they are in places far from home. Supporting the USO is a great gift to all our service members!
Anther one of the Ladies that has awesome information is Hooyahsuzy she has posted this a few minutes ago, these two ladies along with LemonElephant are very Knowledgeable.
All recruits will not be able to phone home on Christmas because there are about 5,000+ of them and there's no humanly way possible they all would have ample time to march to the phone center and use 125 phones. Only those divisions whose RDCs have already schedule a time slot for the division to use the phone center will be getting calls.
When your form letter is received please join that PIR you will get much needed info on there also and you can meet many a Ladies that have a loved one in that group maybe a friend for life.
I was wondering if I should worry that my recruit did not call home on Christmas? It may be a silly question but this is his first time away from home . I just want to know he's doing well. He shipped out on 12/18/17 to RTC.
@lilo830 I didn’t receive a call until the end of his 3rd week and didn’t receive a call on Christmas. From what I’ve heard They’re only guaranteed 3 calls, when the arrive, halfway, and the last week.
Lilo830 Hello! my son left the same day as yours Dec 18. I didn't received a call on Christmas and honestly wasn't expecting it. I believe is too soon :(
ShawnMom I agree. Plus we all went into this pretty much knowing there were no phone calls until week 3. Then Christmas hit and we "hoped" Santa might gift us a phone call. But when the phone call didn't happen we got excited and fret something must be wrong. Stay the course. No news is good news. I always believed in the Navy truly wanted its sailors to have a family you could buy one at NEX. And I'm sure somebody will get offended by that comment.
Got my letter in the mail today, late mail delivery but it was worth the wait. I know we wouldn't get a call till maybe week three, a moment of weakness during the holidays. Thanks for the input.
My son left on Dec 18th and I received the form letter today. He's in Ship14/Div 102 and is expected to graduate Feb 9th. Yesterday was tough without him here but I had a blue candle burning all day for him. Looking forward to a call in a couple of weeks.
This PIR is not up and running as of yet but here is some information that I have found.
just found this info.
The Pass-In-Review graduation ceremony Feb. 9, will contain 16 divisions for that training group. Thus, because of the large number of recruits, the number guests allowed per recruit is reduced to THREE guests only, age 3 and older. All guests, including active duty and veterans, must be on the access list in order to receive a ticket. As a reminder, only guests who have tickets will be allowed on base.
The divisions included in this training group are: 095-106, 807 & 808, and 914 & 915.
Hello! I am totally new and this is my first post. I think I am in the right place. My son left in December and I got his letter for his PIR on Feb 09 with 4 guests. I was so thrown off - because my son was waiting so long to go away to boot camp (almost 9 months) and then they send him right before Christmas! what a surprise!
A very credible source has indicated that recruits are going to be limited to three guests for the PIR dates that are the last two weeks of January and first two weeks in February. This is probably something that should be discussed with your future Sailors before they leave for boot camp.
Hello All and Happy Thanksgiving! We are now into our month count down. Feeling grateful for my amazing son. Counting our blessings, watching Christmas movies early and enjoying the little things that we will miss for a while.
Well my son is almost there..dropped him off at the hotel and he will be going to RTC tomorrow 12/11....anyone else out there have recruits shipping 12/11??. The waiting game begins and ao have the tears...love my son and I can't explain how proud I am of him.
LexforUSN, do NOT send letters until you receive the form letter. The info from the recruiter MAY end up being correct, but it could be wrong up to 11 or more business days after the recruit's arrival at RTC if something changes.

Be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for..., and start discussing some of the things there with your future Sailor such as how to handle bad news and who will get the tickets for PIR....
If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and then go on to Arrival and What Happens at RTC.
