Hello all and Merry Christmas with wishes for a blessed, healthy and prosperous new year!

I don't know where the week went!  Time flies by for me.  I got to spend Christmas with my Navy veteran and his Chinese friend from the Navy-hubby too.  We went to see Lincoln and then had dinner, presents etc.  It's a great movie and I hope you will go see it.

I finally did get the address on Thursday for the new army unit.  So we are mailing right now.  Check out the new dates for mailing in that thread.

Hoping you are all well!  I see lots of snow and bad weather around the country.

We had a hard rain storm on Thursday with hail.  Snow on the mountains.

Good Morning and I too want to wish all a Happy New Year. I so hope that this new year will get me back to the sewing machine. Busy last few months.

Also, As I was cleaning up my sewing room I found four large and XL scrub pants. I would like to send them off to whomever can use them. Please PM me an address.

    Thanks so much. Patricia

    Happy New Year to everyone!

As soon as I finish here, I'll be happily starting to pack for my trip to warm (I hope) Florida.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

HAPPY New Year, a day late.  haha.  That seems to be my MO lately.

Patricia, unless someone claims those, hold onto them.  Maybe we'll get a medical unit in the future that could use them.

Lyn, I hope that FL is warm for you too.  If you were coming to Tucson, you would be cold!  I guess mid 50's isn't cold to people who are having teens or below zero, but for us "natives" (I've lived here longer than I did in Milwaukee, so I consider myself a native now), it's cold!

    Ladies,

we have ended 2012 with a bang!  Had crew mailing pcs on 12-31 and we are starting the new year with another bang by mailing pcs today.  I just boxed mine up to go out.  Check out the new numbers!!!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

AWESOME job and thank you for the continued support of our military!

  • Maryellen

Ladies, I have a prayer request for my daughter. She is going through so rough times right now and needs us to lift her up in prayer. I did get to spend a few days with her during the holidays and I really hated to see her go back to VA. Please lets all lift her up and have Jesus wrap his arms around her. Thank you from a very worried mom.

  • Maryellen

This is her hard at work, she made Tractor King on the Bush.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Love that photo Maryellen!  She looks cold!  Praying for her.

  • Maryellen

I was 32 degrees and all the hanger bay door were open, they were moving supplys on the ship and she was teaching the newbies how to work the forklift.

    Thanks for the prayers Sue.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

BRRRR!  I can see why she is bundled up!  I have one of those jackets and they

are warm!  Too big for me to wear though-it was Ben's

  • LLovesmysailor

I'll be keeping her in my prayers. I hope she will be doing better real soon. It has been really cold here as well...19+.

  • Maryellen

Thanks for the prayers, she was on leave till Sunday but got called back to work today. With being the Tractor King she has a very busy job and long days. They just got out of the ship yard last month and its time to do the quals again so I won't hear much from her unless she has time to email me.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

check out the Stetham thread.  got a really nice email today.  Phoebe, good job and thanks for letting us adopt your son's ship!

I cooked a PINK pumpkin today.  The skin is hard! and once cooked, it is like a shell coming off, but the flesh is mild flavored and the consistancy of a sugar pie pumpkin.  So I of course, have a pumpkin pie in the oven for my hubby.

    praying!

  • Maryellen

OK check out the new thread. We have a new ship and it needs to go fast. Make sure you sign up and get your counts to Sue and I.

  • Maryellen

FYI. Fabric.com is having a huge sale, 65% & if you order $35 or more its free shipping. I have used this comapny many of times and the quality of the fabric is the same if not better than Joann's. I have gotten NFL fabric for 3-4 dollars a yard cheaper thank Joanns and they have a lot more stuff to choose from. Go check it out, I have gotten my orders in a week or less.

  • Maryellen

Terry You are most welcome, you can find some good deals and sign up for their email coupons.

prayer request: 2 years ago I had some bone spurs removed from my right foot, well they are back again and there are more. I have 1 on my heel and big toe and 5 across the bones in the top of my foot. The doctor gave me 2 shots of cortisone today to see if it will help releive the pain. The last time they ended up going in and removing them, so please pray that they will go away and I will not have to have surgery. On a funny note, because of this I have learned to rum my sewing machine and Serger with my left foot, hubby tells me that Im crazy and that nothing will keep me from sewing for our troops.

No word on my daughter yet, they are out for quals so Im waiting for an email. will keep you posted.

Being an empty nester now with out only child in the NAVY I decided I needed to start back on my old hobbies and some new ones.  The new one is learning how to sew.  I received a sewing machine for Christmas but I'm afraid to even open the box.  Maybe pillowcases would be a good starting point for me!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Welcome to ChristyGo and welcome back to sandman713!  We are glad to have you both on board.

don't be afraid to open that box!  go for it.  Pillowcases, especially if you follow our simple instructions, are very easy to make.  We would love to have your help.

ChristyGo, I got this message from you:

    Happy New Year to All!

I'm a band new Navy mom, our just started A school on South Carolina and we are so very proud of him al all who serve.

I love to sew & quilt and make pillow cases all the time for family and friends.  How do I get started/signed up?  My sewing machine is oiled up and ready to go.  I also have a group of quilting buddies who would also like to stitch a case or two for the cause.

I look forwarded to hearing back from you!
    Christy in California

We tell members to sew and stash.  When we get a group, we post a thread on here and we put out a plea to see who can send how many when.  haha

I also like my crew's personal email address because I  email the addresses to the groups plus I put out pcs pleas that way also.

CHECK out the new numbers for this year already!  AWESOME!

  • ChristyGO

Thank you for the reply. When I accepted you as a friend I lost your email address somehow?

I'm so excited to participate. Sice I quilt I have lots of fabric that can pull from. So the way this works is I make up a stash of pillowcases, you post a request for them, I reply with how many I have ready to send and mail them to you or designated address?

You will have to bear with me, I am just now jumping on this "social media" bandwagon and still learning how to navigate around via trial and error.

    Christy
  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    Hi ChristyGo,

no worries, we all have had to learn the "ropes".  yes, that is what you do.  Right now, we have 2 open "threads"-that's what I call discussions. One for the 62nd EN BN and 1 for the USS Antietam.  Both groups have been filled and we are in the process of mailing to them.check them out to see how it works.

  • sandman713

I must be missing something...I can't seem to find the link for the "simple instructions" to make pillow cases - for my sake I hope they are simple LOL -

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

WOW!  I haven't signed in since last week!  I  have just been too busy!

We are finished mailing to the Army group and  2 more mailers for the ship!

then I will bring the numbers up to day.

sandman713, I will bring those instructions to the top.  But when looking for a specific "thread" aka discussion, click the View All link and that page will come up.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

new numbers posted and that will change later this week when another 77 are sent out.

    AWESOME!

  • sandman713

I finally opened the box and WOW - I don't know what I was afraid of.  I now have to start checking out fabric.com for sales

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Sandman713! awesome!   do I have your email address?  if not, please pm it to me.  thanks!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Mornin' all!  WOW, time just flies by for me.  I posted some new numbers.  We worked really hard in Jan as you can see by how many we shipped.

    Good job!

Mailing 100 out this week to some Marines for a request that we received yesterday thru Natalie.  So we are always busy working.

    Have an awesome Sunday!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

OH MY!  I can't believe how long it has been since I have been on here!  I truly don't know where Feb went, but I felt like I slogged thru mud most of it.

Ray and I celebrated our 32nd anniversary on the 13th but didn't go to lunch until the 16th because of my long work day.

I hope you are all well and staying warm!  Tucson had about 2" of snow last week and it was really fun for the kids.  I didn't like to  drive in it.  I'll have to download my photos.

I have added the new numbers!  We are clicking along.

I am also posting a new thread for a ship.  Check it out!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

In Feb we mailed to an army group, marines, Air Force.  I'll post some photos tomorrow.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I finally added photos from the Antietam.  ME I will let you decide about adding the command's photos.

    Gosh, I've missed you all.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Hope you all are well!  We are starting to mail to the ship tomorrow.

  • Maryellen

I have a prayer request: My daughter has been going through some female problems. They did her annual pap-smear a couple months ago and found pre-cancer cells. last month they did a LEEP's procedure (you can google it) and yesterday she found out that there are cancer cells in her cervix. The doctor in Norfolk VA said that they caught it early so they want to do the procedure again but this time they will put her under general anisteshia because they want to go a little deeper. This is a very painful procedure and right now we don't know when they are going to do it, please just keep her in your prayers. If you would like to send her a card you can email me at mepeller@bellsouth.net and I will give you her address. She is upset and scared. Please let keep her in our prayers.

I want to be there but I am on driving restriction for my foot and not able to travel up there right now.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

So sorry to hear this Maryellen!  email me her address please!  praying!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

package going out to her tomorrow.  And I will add new numbers tomorrow too.

    check out the new thread.

  • Maryellen

Ladies, Please keep my daughter in your prayers, she will be having the second procedure on Friday the 15th in the afternoon. She is in good spirits and the Doctor told her they caught it early so they should be able to get it all this time. Please pray for her.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

I put her on my calender to remember to pray that day!  thanks for letting us know.

a little package is on it's way to her.

  • Maryellen

Great News today, Dani does NOT have to have the second procedure done tomorrow. When they got her report on the ship they miss read it, the cells they found were abnormal but NO trace of Cancer. She said to tell everyone Thank You for all the prayers and concerns, both of us are greatful for all the prayers.

Also she will be doing a TAD (temporary assined duty) on the USS Comfort. This is a big hospital ship. She will be coming home for a few days and fly back to VA for the deployment.

Look at the new thread we have another ship that needs some Navy Moms Love.

  • Maryellen

Terry, AMEN to that one. When you walk with God, God Walks with You!!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

Praise the Lord Maryellen!  And Dani!  Such happy news!

The Comfort, ummm.   Alittle history here:  in the fall of 2009, I was approached about sending pcs to the Comfort, but we were a baby group and the thought of it was quite overwhelming to me.  Especially since we had planned to do the USS New York, so we didn't.

BUT now, we are seasoned pc'ers haha and I am wondering with Dani on board, what could we do?  Some food for thought here, Mama ME.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

New numbers are posted for the Lawrence and another little army unit that I mailed to.

  • Maryellen

Sue, I spoke to Dani and just threw it out there and her words were " Mom they need some Love, can you help?" I told her I would see what I can do. I think we can do this in waves and I will be happy to work on things from this end.

  • Birdie

This is a booth I had at the Getty Owl Run last month. I was selling my handmade scarves and hand painted ceramic coasters to fundraise for the pc projects.

One thing is for sure, I will NEVER sign up to have my booth and run at the same time. Way too stressful! I almost missed the start of the race.

Also, I learned that people don't come to a race prepared to shop. But nonetheless, it was a great way for me to tell people about what we do. Hope to have a booth somewhere else soon.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

looks cold Birdie!  but good for you for getting the word out and trying. That's all we can do!  great looking booth.

Looking forward to what you can find out ME!

  • Birdie

It was FREEZING! I wish I'd worn my gloves on the run. I couldn't feel my fingers by the time I came across the finish line. LOL

  • LLovesmysailor

We are seriously iced in here in the Burgh. I'm hoping that the weather clears enough for me to get to the post office tomorrow. I don't mind snow but I really hate ice!

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

The Stockdale is finished and I have posted some new numbers!

    thanks crew!

The USS Shoup is next week.

  • Sue-Pillowcase lady

    ------------
    Sue,

I don't know if you remember me as it's been quite sometime since I have been on NavyforMoms.com but I understand the Head at Ease group recently adopted the USS William P Lawrence DDG-110 for their pillow case program.

Our son re-enlisted last year and changed commands, he is now part of the USS Lawrence's crew.  They are out on their maiden deployment and a long one at that and I am sure the crew will feel so special to be receive their pillowcases.

I invite each of your team members to "LIKE" the USS William P. Lawrence facebook page, today they started posted photos of the crew with their pillowcases.  I am sure they will all sleep a little sweeter tonight with your thoughtful gifts under their head!

    Thank you,

    Mary

    Proud mom of Nick

    check out the thread
