mine went to Gulfport for one month.  I drove over to see him for his birthday!
  • Brender M

I agree with the other Brenda. My son went to Gulfport Mississippi for about a month too. That was just a few months ago. Hope this helps. Brenda

Our son is also in Guam with MSRON 7.  He has been there since January and loves it.

Nashville Navy Mom, I think after "A" school - they pretty much get to choose when they want to come home.  Of course, if they are on a deployment - they can't - but other than that - it is pretty much up to them.  For example, if yours is stationed in Guam or Japan - he can come home on leave - but he has to pay the air fare.
  • Peyt's Mom

Hello all, my son just found out he will be part of msron 4.  He is so excited, any info you can share on msron would be appreciated.

My son is part of MSRON 4 (based in Virginia) but he is in Virginia now and won't deploy until after the first of the year.  I think MSRON is a HUGE squadron and they go lots of places.  Mine has been to Spain, Italy, Africa, Seychelles, Persian Gulf, Kuwait and stayed a few months on a supply ship.
  • Schafam Master at Arms Mom

Any MSRON 3 San Diego folks out there

  • Linda-Mom to Brian

My son is MSRON3 San Diego.  He has been there almost a year.  Welcome to the group.
  • Schafam Master at Arms Mom

I'm glad to see another MSRON 3, so did your son do the San Antonio and Gulfport MS route also?  Then do they train in San Diego?  I'm interested in anything you can tell me.
  • Schafam Master at Arms Mom

also where exactly are they based in San Diego?
  • Linda-Mom to Brian

My son did take the same training route.  Yes there is more training in San Diego and sometimes elsewhere.  Your son will be able to give you more information exactly where he will be living and training.  He will love San Diego especially after his last location. With the OPSEC Internet rules I am afraid I really can't give you any more specifics.

I'm considering picking orders for MSRON 1 out of CA, any insight on what life will be like being apart of a MSRON unit?
  • roe821 (Ship 02/ Div 948)

Hi Ladies, My son's orders are for MSRON 3 and is presently in Gulfport.  Spoke to him earlier today and he is very excited to have started his training.  He's been in Gulfport 41 days waiting to class up.

  • Schafam Master at Arms Mom

my son is MSRON 3 also, has been in San diego since November and he loves it

  • Ladeana

My son is going MSRON 3....just arrived San Diego last night after a month in Gulfport. He is going to be doing some ride-a-longs with the local PD until  training starts.

  • ProudNavyMom

My son is also in MSRON 3 in San Diego. He has also been there since November after A-school in San Antonio and Combat training in Gulfport. He loves it and is looking forward to deployment!
  • Schafam Master at Arms Mom

He ProudNavyMom our sons must have gone through it all together, because that is the same schedule as my sailor.  He also loves it.  He is taking his test tomorrow to become E4, send good vibes to him and all in the same boat.

  • ProudNavyMom

Schafam Master at Arms Mom, Yes, I believe they have! I know we aren't supposed to mention full names, but from what I can figure, our sons hang out together quite a bit. My son talks about him often and thinks very highly of him. I'm so excited to hear from another mom with a sailor in San Diego and MSRON 3! Sending prayers for your son and all of our Sailors!

  • roe821 (Ship 02/ Div 948)

Hi ProudNavyMom my son is also in MSRON 3 and arrived there in Feb.

  • ProudNavyMom

Hi Roe821, I hope your son settles in and likes San Diego and MSRON 3 as much as my son! They seem to be a great team!

  • cajunldr(ship 03 Div 086)

    Hey Ladies

I have a daughter with MSRON 1 that has been in San Diego for 7 months.  If you have questions or just want to add a comment in, give me a chat here!!!

Has anyone heard any more about some of the msron units being consolidated and next year being merged with Rivron? As the Navy draws down forces it sounds like their restructuring some of these groups.
  • Brender M

My son is currently depolyed at the time. But yes i was told they are planing on merging with river rains when they return. They will go to training for it. But they have not recived thier offical orders yet. My son is part of Msron 4

  • Bluerdr

My son is with MSRON 11 and will be deploying for the first time. He has also been training for other duties. I think its part of putting assets where you need them when you need them and these boys and girls are good. Does anyone have any advice about the best way to communicate with them while they are out of country? Cell phone, Air Mac, Macbook Pro, Skype, Facetime? It sounds like they won't be  on a base per se.

  • sondra

Hello everyone!  It has been a while since I was on here.  My son is MSRON 3 and has been in San Diego since July.  He loves it.  He has also said something about being consolidated with the Riverrines.  Not sure how soon that will happen.  Hope you all have a good week!

Brenda Sue thank you so much for posting the link for pictures of Msron 4. None where of my son but this is where he is deployed at this time. They were very interesting pictures. Thank you again. Brender M

  • Peyt's Mom

    Hello all,
'My son is in Kuwait MSRON 4...he wears glasses and contacts. I talked to him today and he is almost out of contacts and prefers to wear them so he can wear sunglasses as he is outside quite a bit. Does anyone know if he can get more contacts there or if I need to order them and send them to him...he wasn't sure and probably wont look into it. Any info would be great. Thanks
  • Brenda Sue

The fact that he wears sunglasses is GREAT!  My eye doctor told me I've about ruined my eyes by not wearing them.  Do anything you can to encourage that!

If your son is anything like mine, he won't order them for himself.  The Navy would probably get him some sort of corrective lenses - but not sure if they would order disposable contacts.  I honestly don't know on that part.  I'll ask a few friends "in the know".

I would order them for him and have them shipped over there so he can continue wearing sunglasses.  It usually takes about a week to get things over there - so as long as he will be there two or three more weeks - it should be fine.

  • Peyt's Mom

    Brenda Sue,

Typical boys...that is why I asked the question because he won't order them for himself, he is actually re-wearing his disposable contacts...I just want to go over there and pinch his head off..he is not supposed to wear them for more than a day.  I did order him some and will ship them to him...he will be there until July sometime.  Thanks for the info, and if you find out any other info I would appreciate your passing that along.

    Thanks a bunch,

    Rena

Hello Moms.  My daughter is a Gunner's Mate, and she just arrived in VA as part of the MSRON 2 squadron.  Are there any other moms with daughters in this unit?

  • Brenda Sue

  • batmomof3

Hi!  My son has just been assigned to MSRON2, he finishes A school in GL on Monday, then off to Combat Training in Gulfport.  He will arrive in VA on August 24.  Is there anyone who can make me feel more comfortable about this assignment??

  • Chemung8

Hi!  My son also has just been assigned to MSRON2, finishes A school in GL end of August, off to Combat Training in Gulfport, training in California and then to VA - he was just told by his mentor in VA they will be deployed in November - excited for him because he is so happy with this but also would love to feel more comfortable about this!

  • judith ann

My son is also MSRON 2 is in gulfport 1 month then off to virginia then???He is excited!!!Mom is a mess !!!! I am very proud of him!!!!

  • fallinan

My son just got to Missippi tonight for combat training, and then he is off to VA. He finished A school last Monday, and then came home for a few days leave.

  • batmomof3

I forgot to check back here in a few weeks.  Glad to see this group is getting some recent activity.  I'm thinking I know Judith Ann, but maybe not fallinan and Chemung8.  Where are you guys from?

  • Chemung8

We live about an hour from Great Lakes.  Kyle is our youngest out of 6 and currently is "on hold" at the Cole.  He is thrilled about all this and I guess I just want to learn more so I understand it.

  • Chemung8

My son PIR'd May 25 Ship 12 Div 157-Engineman ENFN
  • fallinan

We live in Iowa. Michael is almost done with Gulfport. Batmomof3 and Judith Ann, it sounds like like your sons are one of the 14 doing MSRON. Am I right on that? I wonder if they are hanging out together.

  • judith ann

Yes Trish I am Travis V mom Judy He did talk of some one from Iowa He will be home this next weekend for 12 days.

  • Chemung8

Looks like your sons are further along than mine - he is still on hold at Great Lakes until next Friday.  We had thought he would get time off before Gulfport but not so.  Do they all get time off before heading to Virginia?

  • Karen

Hi Moms. My daughter is in MSRON 2. She is a Gunner's Mate, and she also did the combat training in MS. She has been in VA since the end of May. To my knowledge, she is the only female gunner in MSRON 2.
  • Karen

Are there any other moms who have daughters in any of the MSRON squadrons?
  • fallinan

What do you know of Kuwait? Is there anyway that the sailors can email or skype?

  • Vivian and Glen H.

All - I haven't been on here in quite a while - it's good to see our MSRON family growing!  Welcome to the group and thanks for joining.  I'd encourage all of you continue to reach out to families of your loved ones who are part of the same MSRON unit.  Just keep in mind it's probably prudent to not post specifics such as unit movements, specific locations and certainly anything about their weapons, mission or equipment - anything that the Navy themselves haven't chosen to make public.  Once they announce, however, like in a press release that a unit has deployed or returned from deployment, no problem.  Sometimes I'm more apt to share info by email than posting it here on this public domain website.  As a Navy Dad, I obviously don't have any classified information - but I'm still hesitant to just give out much info about the unit without knowing who I'm talking to.
