Daughter made it to the ship last night and is exploring the base as I type. She had a heck of a travel day yesterday but survived with much support from all those she was in contact with.

Does anyone have any experience with their sailor living on the ship while its docked in the shipyard as opposed to the naval base? I've been told there is "NOTHING" at the shipyard and that a car is of upmost importance!! I was also told that the waiting list for a room on base is two miles long.

Hi - my son has been on the Bataan for the past couple of years.  I am hearing the same thing... because of the carriers, PPV space is limited.  Right now they are staying on the ship but I am guessing that when they go into dry dock the Navy will bring in barges for the sailors to sleep on.  That is where he lived for the first 6 months of being on the Bataan.

Son came home to drive his car back to Norfolk.  In the past he has been without a car and it can be a pain if they don't have friends with a vehicle to get around.
