Thank you ckmom. I am very proud. He is my first to leave the nest, i have another that has only 2 years of HS left and he is seriously thinking about enlisting also. Its so hard with one gone, i don't know how i will handle two gone.
I finally heard from my son yesterday, it had been 3 or 4 days since i had received an e-mail. He said since he finished in-doc, he has been really busy with work and watch. He said he is really tired.
Heard from my sailor today. He sent me a picture. Its not technically of him but I can see him! Sounds like they are in for a VERY fun weekend (well the ones that aren't on duty). Can't elaborate due to OPSEC, but I am sure yall know! I'm pretty jealous of them right now! I hope you ladies have had a great week!
Jill, it's also in the paper edition of the Navy Times. I have a subscription and was so embarrassed to be reading the paper only to stumble across that article. Just a great example of how a few people can make us all look like idiots..
I'm am so upset about the Facebook shut down! It has taken me this long to cool off, to write a somewhat civil note! This was our only info. of our Sailor... Why do people have to spoil it for those families whose Sailor's REALLY have to keep their lips zipped.... The Facebook page was the first time we ever got to even see any photos of the ship. We get absolutely nothing from our Sailor.... Do those not remember the saying "Loose Lips Sink Ships" I hope those who have spoiled it for us are happy... Sorry about the complaint, as I know, none of you were responsible... Hopefully this shut down will send a message to those who ruined it for all of us and they will eventually put it back up... Sorry I am so sour.. :-(
My sailor said he had fun! Well at first he kept telling me he "just isn't a good tourist." Not sure what that means, but the 2nd day he had a blast! I amso happy for them! Glad they got to have a little fun!
I guess my sailor was "cranking" for a while too. He was basically a "stock boy" as he put it. He put away all of the ships food and would spend hours in the freezer. He volunteered for it so he wouldn't have to have duty before they left. It was worse hours than his job as a machinist, but he wanted to make sure he didnt have overnight duty and came home at night on the weeks that I came to visit. Buuuut, that plan didnt work out with the early deployment so his first month on the ship was rough!
It deeply grieves me to hear such negative comments coming from those who are supposed to be supporting our sailors. These men are separated from their families, performing their CHOSEN career. They are defending their country and countrymen….just as their forefathers before them. No, it is not pleasant at times….in fact….probably most of the time. My son has been through “cranking”. His last 60 days occurred during the beginning of this deployment. The first 30 he endured during the last month he had with his wife and 2 young boys prior to deployment. The military has never promised a luxurious career. God tells us to do the very best we can as if we are working for Him…..not man. We must encourage our sailors and stop putting the Navy down. We chose it. God bless the families of our dear sailors and please keep our dear boys safe as we do our best to encourage them while patiently waiting as they do their duty.
As my sailor puts it "the Navy probably saved his life." He realized he needed a structured environment to get him back on track, and I thank God for the man that he has become since joining the Navy, but EVERYONE is entitled to have rough days when they want to complain or rant about things. And i assume that most of these women on here are like me and keep it to a minimum when speaking with their sailors. This is a supposed to be a safe haven for those of us that need to talk about what we are going through. No one here is to put the Navy down.
haha- I have heard from my sailor, but I have also received emails from him at times that are WAY different that the time stamp on the actual email. I think their email may be acting funny again.
My fiancée says that the lines for the phones are long as well as the internet. The phones were down for part of the day, but I did get a short call before he went to bed. Im thankful to just hear his voice for a second. :)
No problem- i can always use a good cry every once in a while.
this was on the family site:
Hi Everyone,
The ship is requesting that everyone try and refrain from emailing for a day or so. There is a back log of about 9000 emails and they are trying to get them through, but it would really help if you could stop emailing for awhile why they do this. Please pass this information on to any other spouses or family members you know. Thanks for your support as always.
woops! I have been emailing alot the last couple days! i will stop for today and tomorrow!
My son usually e-mails daily but i haven't received a call in almost 2 weeks, I'm praying i hear from him soon!! Our e-mails have been having a big delay also. I will try not to e-mail for a couple of days if that will help.
Got an email from my sailor today. It is VERRRRY hard not to email him back, but I am going to do what they ask and refrain. I hope they told our sailors that they asked us not to send any more for a few days. Does anyone know if they did?
My sailor sent me an emailed me a couple days before the captains letter and mentioned that the ship may not be back until whenever but I didn't really catch that till after I read the letter. I can not believe it may be that long :(
I don't understand not posting more pictures. I look at the Whidbley Island's facebook to see what is going on out there in hopes that it will have something to do with the Bataan, and they have TONSSS of pictures. Why can't the Bataan have more???
a.mitchell- i called the careline and option 1 is someone from the FRG or an ombudsman. she spoke a bit, made a funny noise and quit talking. i am assuming they dont know its on there. i kinda found it funny. i get nervous too when people are recording me (had to be the recorded message for a company i worked for once) I guess that is what joro is talking about.
sandra- its a number that is updated occasionally by the CO and the FRG/Ombudsmen. The number is on the ships website (www.bataan.navy.mil) under the ombudsmen tab.
ok. i am a rule breaker and emailed my sailor and he got it and responded. I have only sent 2 in the last 2 days, but it seems like it is working again. I tried to stay strong and do what the asked, but i caved. i couldnt go any longer without at least trying to get an email through.
I heard from my son yesterday finally, and i e-mailed him back, and i got a response back , so i guess its working again. He did say there are still problems with the phones, I don't know?
I also emailed my son but I had to tell him we were hit with a bad storm and lost our machinery shed. We were very lucky and it missed our house. He did email me back and I could tell he was kidda down and missing everyone and home.
Just got a call from my son, it seems when i'm really needing to hear from him he calls!!! My son sounded really tired, he said alot of hours working.
He also is missing everyone at home, he said he hates missing his little brother starting pre-k, but he is gonna order him a backpack(i am for him) , the ones that look like there uniform, His baby brother is really gonna like it, hes all into cammo stuff. I try and tell him everything thats going on around home so he won't feel so left out, I know its gotta be hard on him.
Sandra, the nex website, usually i just get on there and look for the item number then i call them and order, i know you can order online, but i just like calling to make sure everything goes through. I use my sons account info. The backpacks are called digi ( i didn't know that until i got on there ) I'm getting my little one the large kids backpack, i think it will be big enough for him, just 11.99.
Kellie, i know its hard not to e-mail them back, i just e-mailed my son back this morning, but also told him what they are telling us. Hopefully they will get things fixed soon.
I don't get on facebook so I went to see what your talking about, Oh my gosh your so right and everyone can read those statements very embarrassing for us and our Bataan Sailors.
I find it ridiculous that the captain of the ship has to take time out of his day to update a stupid facebook page with information that has already been shared with us through the FRG, ombudsmen, and PAO just to keep catty woman from complaining. Like the man doesn't have anything better to do than appease these women. Goodness gracious.
I dont know much about it. I would try to convince him to get one through his sister though. I have a funny feeling about the dealerships like you are talking about.
My sailor has been trying to figure out what he wants to buy when he gets off the ship. It's his "I am out of the Navy present" since when he is off the ship he is done for good. I keep pushing for a boat. :) hen
OH- i didnt know they went on the ship to sell.. I thought you were talking about the ones that are in Norfolk that are geared especially towards the military.
so a navy friend of mine said the Bataan is in river city. Which to my fellow deployment newbies that's a communications black out. I learn new "navy talk" everyday!
I wish they could just delete the backed up emails and be done with it. once it gets fixed people can re send their important stuff or not worry about it.
My son is on this Ship. I get phone calls regularly as a matter of fact I got one about an hour ago. He said they are working on the the emails and phones. It makes my while day hearing from him....
I just received this from bataanfrg:
Family and Friends of the USS Bataan We have put out, DAILY that the email is backlogged and we are asking everyone to refrain from sending emails. Everyone meaning spouses and Sailors and Marines, family and friends. Although some may be able to send TEXT only email ( no pictures) out ,WE WONT normally get a response. So please refrain from emailing back. Back log is now at 20,000. WE ask that you keep from sending emails until FURTHER NOTICE, as soon as we get cleared we will notify the Ombudsman and put out on family site as well as POSSIBLE facebook page. Thank you for your patience. Command Master Chief Collier __._,_.
