ssiscarrie, he has 18 months from getting to the command to choose a job because he is undesignated.  The Navy does not like the term undesignated anymore due to the feeling that your son has, which is that they aren't getting any training.  He will have a job, but he has to make it known which job he wants to do to his career counselor.  They will help him get on the right path to getting where he wants to be and those feelings he has will go away.

I am trying to keep up with the storm for my Bataan's son's wife who is in Norfolk...I live in Mobile Alabama and all I can do is watch the weather channel in fear. She is by herself with two babies. I would appreciate any information I can pass on to her..she isn't a member of this site (not very tech savy). Thanks so much

I'm glad everyone made it through the storm:) My son finally called me this morning, it has been about 2 months since the last call, we talked a long time. I was so glad to hear from him.

Donna, I just had our youngest in may after the guys deployed. Our dr let us video while I was in surgery. I had a c section. We couldn't video the surgery but the camera was facing me and you can hear his first cries and then when they took him over to be cleaned up we were able to video from there. We sent it to my husband and he said it was the next best thing since he couldn't be there.

He has missed the birth of both our sons but we weren't able to video the first one. I have been taking lots of Video of our boys and he says it's amazing to still get to watch them and see them grow even though he can't be here.

If you facebook the Bataan has a facebook group where they will upload pictures sometimes. They also have a yahoo group here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bataanfrg/ and also a family website you can join. You can go here: http://www.family.surfor.navy.mil/Reg/(S(pfvu15zff5d4it55vljqdz55))... to register but your sailor will have to approve you for you to get access and it can take a few days.

 

Not alot of information is released over the internet. So if you are in Norfolk its nice to attend the FRG meetings so you can find out what is going on in person. They announce the date and times on the FB page and the Yahoo group.

Aww. Congrats! Hes adorable!

So I got an email from my son earlier today. He is really depressed him and his gf broke up after a year and he really misses the family and home. Makes me sad to know he is sad andI cant make things better for him :( Hope everyone had a good labor day weekend!!!

Donna   I sooooooooooo agree with you!  These last 2 days for some reason has been really hard on me.  I think of my son and fall apart.  I have been doing really good with all this and now I don't know maybe it's harmones! LOL

Sandra AM,   I remember your sons birthday because my son birthday is real close to yours the 27th.   I don't remember if they are the same age or not. Curtis is 19.

They will be home for next B-DAY.   :-)

I'm trying to connect with a few of my daughters shipmates Moms.  The Mom's names are Tammy Mahar (Joe's Mom) and Katherine Davis (Tia's Mom).  I'm Rhea Hagen's Mom, from Nebraska.

I didn't hear from my son for 3 days. So I emailed him and asked if he was mad at me or if I said something wrong.  LOL  He did email me right back and that he is very busy and I can't tell you where I'm at.  Of course I knew that! lol  I was getting spoiled because he has been emailing me everyday. 

I just got an email from my son. He says they are on Holiday Routine today. He's sounding a little better. This is his first deployment and from what I understand is its a long one. I guess being cooped up on a ship can get a little nerve racking. I get an email or two everyday so I know his moods change a lot.

Just recieved an email from my hubby. It appears they are setting RC1 so we probably won't be getting the call from him as planned. Given what day it is I was questioning if he would be able to call home :(.

 

What is RC1?

river city is where they shut down communications from the ship.

I didn't know they had an upcoming port... I'm so in the dark right now. I do get emails everyday but he tells me there's so much he can't say so I don't ask. I have no clue even about where they are or any port stops.

I tried earlier it won't let me on for some reason.

How do I reopen an account with Navy.mil I don't think I changed my password in time.

Hmmm I wonder why it won't let me on.

I get emails daily but haven't had a phone call in about a week. Are all there deployments this long?

I saw the email about a half way party they are having on base...does that mean they are half way through the deployment?

I guess we just wait to hear when it will end. I was looking forward to the tiger cruise if it happens.

Do you know why there making it so long it is that one of the things we can't talk about?

  Hi Friends...

   It's been ages since I have written on here... Our Sailor turned 28 Sat. and he had to call me, to wish him a HB.... Some Mom am I ?  ;-(   I  sent no card, because of snail mail, he doesn't want any attachments to e-mails because of slow loading the computers, he said... We do have a care package to send this week I hope it gets there before they return, all I am only allowed to send what he asked for... I was lucky to get a photo from the FB page, so we do know what he looks like and has not changed... I think they may have had that deck party the night of his birthday (limit 2 beers each), but I am sure no one even knew it was his B-Day, as he is so closed mouth... Now he tells us he will not come home when they get back to the States, until it gets warmer.... I think I am finally getting the hint!!!  Are the ordered to go on leave after returning from deployment or is it their choice?  I know nothing!!!

   Another sad thing is that 2 weeks ago we found out our Wire Haired Fox Terrier has cancer and is blind.. So now I have to deal with that choice also.... Our Sailor is graciously paying for all of his treatments, until the Vet says, nothing more can be done.... God Bless our Sailor for doing this, as I think he thinks of him as is little brother, side kick... As our Sailor has had him since he was 16 years old... Our Sailor is our only child, I guess it will really be empty nest around here soon...

   Sorry for this long bummer note, but at least you all have some of the same experiences but, HOPEFULLY not all of them....

Sailors mom your note brought tears to my eyes! Try to hang in there. My sailor never calls but emails alot.

I am so sorry to make anyone sad.... It was not my intention, but I guess we are all pretty much in the same boat (LOL!), in one way or another... Chin up to all !

 Received a beautiful arrangement of flowers for my B-Day today from our Sailor who seems like he is a million miles away... Just when I get down, he knows how to pick me up... Cheers to all and God Speed to all and your Sailors!!

Heard from my son. He is doing really well still really homesick he turns 20 next month that's going to be hard his birthdays have always been a huge deal.

Is anyone else not hearing from there Salior? I usually hear from him everyday and most of the time 2 or 3 times but I haven't heard from him in four days. Are they in Rivercity again?

That gives me hope Sandra, seems like when you hear from your sailor I usually hear from mine.  ( Don't know why)   I also haven't heard from mine in 4 days.

Sandra ask your son if he knows anyone from a Mo. dairy farm?

I received phone call this afternoon.... No email has been allowed... Sailor said they were all fine!!

My son finally e-mailed this morning said he had been in RC for  a while, glad to hear from him.
