USS Bataan LHD-5

I got a phone call and email. He said they have been going into rivercity a lot. I asked him about CNN and he said he couldn't tell me anything about that. I know its for their safety but sometimes the not knowing anything about drives me crazy.

What is the cnn thing you ate talking about

You know they will always be our kids, what little things make them sooo happy!!

I did recieve an email this morning from my son.

Sandra your not a lone I didn't order one either.  I printed the order form and all to get one. I never did see an end date on the form. I might be wrong.

I know what you mean, I did order the military x-max stocking. Can't wait to see it, I think Curtis will like it.

My son called me yesterday and i missed it because I was at work, i just started crying, I messaged him back and told him to call back, i didn't care if it was 3 in the morning, and this morning at 3:30 he called me:)

Hopefully Kellie you will get to hear from your husband soon!!!

Courtney I'm glad you heard from your husband. I'm guessing so because I usually get daily emails so this is odd for me not to hear from him. I hope to hear from him soon!

No word from mine

Just recieved a email from my son and said they have been in RC.  Can't say where they are.

I love surprises sooo I hope so!!

i havent gotten many phone calls but i get emails often =]

I believe they are in RC right now... My husband was supposed to call today and the call never came.

Thank god I took my cell phone to bed with me lol he finally called. Just sucks we were all in bed asleep. I woke but he said he would call again later in the week to talk to the kids. Oh more good news for anyone who has sent packages out lately he said they are supposed to get a mail drop tomorrow / today.

Just got an email from Curtis needed info about what he has in his acct and what he still owes on his car and ect. Needed that info for free apartment. idk!

Glad they are getting mail that should cheer him up.  But the package he will be getting is his Halloween box all decorated in spider webs and black spiders. LOL

Anyone hearing anything? My son calls or emails everyday but I haven't heard from him since last Thursday at 3 am.

My son is joining the ship after he finishes A school.  I am confused.  I see your post talking about this ship like it is out to see but I thought it was at port here in the US.

 

Jakesmom* the Bataan has been deployed since March and we just hit its half way mark. We still have months before they return. Also we can't say where they are but its no where near the US. Are you sure its the USS BATAAN hes joining?

Robyn, Thanks.  He told me last night the name of the ship and he said it was in Virginia.  But all my googling tells me otherwise.  I sent you a friend request so we could private message.

Thanks Ladies, my head was spinning and you helped clear it up.  I really thought deployment was much farther down the road, but there is nothing I can do about it.  Joro - He is Damage Control Fire fighter.

His A school ends in December and said he will be going to the Bataan after that.  No mention of C school

Has anyone heard from their sailor?

I got to talk to my son today too, and he asked me to check his bank balance so looks like he is wanting to spend some money too. Just glad I got to hear his voice it made my day!!!

I heard from my son he said they aren't in rivercity anymore. Does that mean they are moving again. I really hope so.

I wish I knew where he was im totally in the dark. My son says hes afraid to say anything because that was part of the reason they had been in Rivercity. I guess some people were saying to much.

My son said he had some seperate account they put money into for.port visits has anyone heard of that

My son tells me nothing also.  So all I have are you ladies to keep me kinda inform.LOL

Jarrett doesn't usually tell me alot either but if they are going to port he tries to give me a few days heads-up.  :) 

 

Thanks Kellie,  It doesn't hurt to remind us of how important it is to follow OPSEC. We want to keep the Sailors and Marines safe.

Your right Kellie I know I need to think before I type :)  I am still fairly new to this and learning.  On a different subject I am trying to gather some ideas to send to my son for Thanksgiving (Hopefully it will get to him in time)  I have sent out several packages and wanted to send something different this time.  Any ideas?  Also my youngest is in 3rd grade and her class is going to write letters to send to him and for some of the other sailors is there anything that I should know about doing this or can I just package them up and send them out?

Thank you,  I have sent a box and my mom sent one and they are still not there :( I am sending it out this week so hopefully it will get there in time if not I am sure he will enjoy it whenever he gets it :)  I will go through the letters the kids write but hopefully they are ok because their teacher is going to help them write :)

What has been your experience when sending things like cookies or pies? I have only sent hard candy breakfast bars and a blanket.

Starting on my Thanksgiving box also.  So far I only have banana chips in it.lol  I better get on the ball and start baking pumkin bread in a jar. Really need to get this box out soon, so I can start on Christmas I love Christmas.

Do you know if it is ok to send a small decorative christmas tree?

Can they have cash on the ship or do they need cash or do they only use their plastic cards?   Family was asking if he needed cash for christmas.

Donna I thought about turkey jerky too :)  I want to do something special if I come up with anything new I will try to post it.  The turkey feathers are a good idea we have our share here in Michigan too :)

Maybe we will get lucky and they will post more pictures.

donna, you might consider sending him some vitamin D and Calcium supplements to help with the lack of sunshine.  It should put some color in his cheeks :)

 

I havent heard anything yet and its his 20th birthday. It has been a real rough day.

Oh Joro that brought tears to my eyes, for you wifes how true it is.  You have to be strong in loving, caring, understanding, and most part very patient.  I know this deployment is indeed frusturating for all the loved ones here and there. You know in  your heart you can't be prouder and they are the same about you here at home taking good care of everything.  I can't immagine having a husband gone at months at a time.  I married a dairy farmer and thought that was hard. LOL  With the long hrs, and can't plan anything because you have to milk them cows everyday twice a day.  Boy I had it good and didn't know it.
