Woooot!!! Congratulations, Kathy and to our new Corpsman!   He is one in a million like the rest of our corpsmen.  We love them all!  They are archangels to me fight to take care of our sailors, marines, veterans and active duty families!   You have the right to be uber proud!

Kathy, that is absolutely precious, God bless her heart and that beautiful little boy.  Thank you for the tissue alert, it was very much needed.  Made me remember to count my blessings!  Thank you for sharing with us.

Princess, have a great trip and give Rutheall a hug for me.  She means the world to me too, you lucky dog, you get to meet her face to face.  I'm green here!

Will be back in a bit!  Hugs!

  • vettespace

    Congratulations to the new Corpsman!

  • Anna

Congrats to the new Doc!!  We have a soft spot in our heart for all of them.

Hey, Sir Vette, it is so good to see/hear from you!!!

  • velvetlace

It is still raining....time to measure the cubits for the ark.  :)     I am baking sherry wine and catsup chicken  and baked potatoes.  It is making the house smell so yummy!   I could eat the air!   Hey!  That is a great idea on how to not gain weight!  :)     Well, I hope everyone has the best weekend ever.  I know that I will be seeing heavy rain here probably all weekend.  We need the rain, so it is good!

    Mary

  • mikes mom

    Kathy all I thought was " Freedom isn't Free " : (  What a huge loss

Congrats to our new Corpsman !

  • velvetlace

Carol-    We have had lots more rain today, but we have also had some sun.  I had forgotten about that sun in the sky the last few days.   Sorry to hear about your son's girlfriend, but time heals all wounds.  If it is meant to be, they will find a way!  Love, Love can keep us together.....wow....I am getting into a song thing.  Yikes.  Anyway, things usually happen for the best though at the time that it happens, I ususally cannot see why! Hugs, girlfriend!!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

The good news is all that, Carol, is that it's your son making a level-headed, mature decision so he should be basically ok.  Tthough of course it's too bad when something's not working.

Do you know the Stoppard play "Rosencranz & Guildenstern Are Dead"?  About the action that takes place offstage in Hamlet.  Read it in HS.  The notion that "every exit is an entrance somewhere else" is such a good thought to keep a person going sometimes :)

  • velvetlace

Carol-   Actually the sun is shining right now through some clouds, however.  There is hope that I won't have to float on that boat!    Where there is a door closed, a window opens!   You son will be OK.  It is better to sometimes step back if it does not feel right!  Your son in level headed, and he will be alright.
Ruthella-   Is your head still above water where you live?   Have you been getting the deluge of rain?   I think we have received at least 7 inches, but that might be a low estimate.

    Mary from soggy Northern California

  • mikes mom

I really like that saying too Carol ... The kids know... I'm not saying it doesn't hurt it does..but they know best....I think sometimes its harder for us : )lol

  • mikes mom

Awwww Carol it is so hard....

Okay everyone I have been waiting 10 months for this and I finally got it !!!!! Drum Roll Please.........

"M" Called Me!!!! OMGosh he sounded awesome !!!!!! Pretty soon I will be getting my mom-e Hug from him !!!!!

  • vettespace

    Great news Princess!!!

    Great news Betty!!!

    Go Giants!!!  :-)

  • mikes mom

Happy Birthday to your son Betty : )

Hmmmmmmm Sir Vette I'll have to say Go 49ers : ) Though right now at half tim you are ahead .... We'll see : )

  • Dan's Dad (John)

stupid Ravens. At least one Harbaugh is definitely gone. Go Giants!

  • Dan's Dad (John)

Carol-as a Steelers fan I hated rooting for the Ravens too but I dislike the Patriots and Tom Brady more. Condolences on being a Browns Fan. LOL.

  • vettespace

Here's to a repeat of the last time the Giants played the Pats in the Super Bowl!!!!!!!  :-)

  • mikes mom

Yep ... It was a great game Sir Vette : )

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hey Betty, that's a great position, congratulations to your son.  Send him a "Bair hug" from this former AT mom, he'll laugh :)

  • Anna

So, Lorelai???  Aren't you going to share with the group your new purchase???  What you bought on a cold, snowy day in Chicago-land??  HAHAHA!!!!  Those will  get Sheldon hot to trot. :-)

I am working in our Houston office all this week.....ugh!  So want to just work 9 to 5 and stay at home.  Whiney butt I am today....LOL!

Aw, crap, Carol.......hate those kinds of test.  Even if he comes out with a clean slate, which he will, it give the cubs lots of anxiety that they don't need right now.

  • mikes mom

    Mary - you and I have a mutual friend ( Monica ) .......

Well, it has stopped raining here and its just windy....

  • velvetlace

@ Lorelei-    Port Hueneme is beautiful!   The weather and the base are very nice.  When my Dad retired from the Navy, we moved to Ventura, and we used to go to the home of the Seabees, Port Hueneme, for our commissary and the BX.    I hope he gets that one if he wants it.  Nice place to be!

@mikesmom-   I met Monica here in McKinleyville about a month or so ago.  We  had coffee together at Starbucsks.  It was so much fun!

    Mary

  • Anna

She says she can walk in them......I want to see a video of Lorelai walking......strutting her stuff!!!  Maybe those Jimmy Choos and nothing else will make Sheldon happy...:-)

I want to be cremated and have my ashes dumped in the ocean at Harbour Island.  I have told this to my kids; over and over.

My grandmother use to live in Oxnard.  Her and my grandfather owned a laundry mat back in the 70's.  He is buried in Ventura.  I remember going swimming with a friend(who was a military kid) at the base in Port Hueneme.  Very beautiful there!

  • abbyblue

want to be cremated and turned into a diamond

  • abbyblue

http://www.lifegem.com/  <-------------------kinda strange but what the hell.

  • Anna

Gee Louise...Abby....that is kind of cool!  How in the heck did they come up with that idea?  Wonder who is the first gem??  Maybe Jimmy Hoffa??

  • Dan's Dad (John)

My mom has told us over and over she wants to be cremated, and if we don't she will be back to haunt us. My Uncle did last week and he was buried at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, he was a Col. in the Air Force and was shot down over China and was the only survivor of his B-24 crew. Things you learn about loved ones after they've passed...

  • Dan's Dad (John)

Is he having Lasik? My son wanted that done but said there is a long waiting list.

  • Anna

What does your dress look like that is going with these Jimmy Choo shoes??  I think you would look gorgeous in a red dress.

My cub had lasik while stationed in Bremerton.  So far so good.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Gorgeous shoes Lorelai, nothing like a Nordstrom sale!  Red is always good on a blonde.  Poor bride, to compete with you! Now you need a Kate Middleton fascinator to top it off.

I'm sure Jack will be fine, they do Lasik a zillion times a day.  No one's touching these eyes though :)  Been wearing contacts longer than I care to tell, no problems. knock on wood.  I am more conscientious these days, too, used to get a little too casual with care sometimes.

Love the gem thing. "Is that a ruby?"  "No that's my uncle Sid."  And if you're a larger person would the gem be bigger, too?  If my kid starts looking at me funny and hands me pie and cake, I guess I'd better watch myself around stairs.

Project's coming along well, the exhibit will be installed first week of February.  The graphics designer is also a night owl, so we pulled an all-nighter to get one section done; kinda fun in fact.  So great to be able to work from our respective computers.  Kids don't know how good they've got it over the olden days LOL

Rain coming our way, hope it blows on into Texas........

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Anyone else see this about tomorrow?  CBS News: Here comes the sun: Solar eruption countdown  12/21/12 coming early?  Where's Morgan Freeman when you need him?!

  • Anna

Please send some rain this way, Marcy.  We need it!!  Pretty please....:-)

  • velvetlace

@Anna -    I wish I could send you our rain.  We are getting more the next couple of days.  It was nice not to have any today.  I think we will be catching up to our 21 inches average soon.

    Mary

  • velvetlace

@Marcy-   Thank you for the link about the sun having some significant eruptions!  It does not make me feel warm and cuddly, but it is good to know. Thank you so much.  I put the link on my facebook page.

    Mary

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Mary - it might make you warmer than you think! JK There was a smaller one of these Sunday in fact.  I just find these things interesting, if it really was scary I wouldn't post it here :)

Hey, how come when I go to the Nordstom sale, there's nothing like those Jimmy Choos in a 9?  Everything cool is a teeny size :(

  • velvetlace

Marcy-   I agree the article was very interesting.  It lets us humans know that we are not in control and things could change very quickly.  It is not scary, but helps me keep perspective of how very small we are in the universe.   I will wait for the suntan tomorrow.  :)   Mary

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

You just reminded me of once upon a time, seeing sorority sisters on the rooftop, all armed with sun reflectors, baby oil and iodine.  Paying the price now, no doubt!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Not even, Carol!  Been wearing them since I was 8, and lets just say it was a teeny bit before '78 ....just a tiny bit...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

People were tougher back then Carol lol Yep, they were the hard lenses. If you got a speck of dust in your eye you KNEW it!
  • velvetlace

    Betty-

How are you doing?   I have been on my computer only the last hour or so.

It is cold and rainy in my neck of the woods.  I went to a Kiwanis meeting this morning, and I have been listening to all of the new today and waiting for the State of the Union speech.  Lots of news today!  It is fun being home to follow all of the politics of the day.  I enjoy it!    Mary

  • velvetlace

Hi, Carol-   I think it is the attorney in me that I just love watching and following politics.  My dad, the career Naval officer, got me into that.  I watched politics and westerns with him when I was growing up.  We also watch Lawrence Welk, too.  Remember, I play the accordion.

Betty-  I agree with you!  Our country should get a handle on the tax laws and the lobbyist.  The money in politics will be the death of this county!

    Mary
