Carol-   Good for you studying criminal justice.   When I was in law school, I thought I would probably be a civil attorney.  I love constitutional law!  But, I ended most of the time in criminal law as a prosecutor and as a city attorney working on both criminal and civil cases.   Hang in there with you studies!   I love going to school!  I have 2 master's degrees and my J.D.   I still take legal classes.   So, each to his own,eh!   Bring on the SOTU adress this evening.  I will probably go to Starbucks first to get a latte!   :)   Mary

  • Greg-and-Angela

ME-   My Dell computer just died on my a couple of days ago.  It was a slow death, so I ordered a new one and received it right before my old Dell died.   It is awful to lose that computer!

KAT-   It sounds like the Navy has plans for your son.  A friend's son went to 29 Palms and then he was sent to Virginina after training.  He is also attached to the green side.  Keep us updated.  I know that there was a report in the Navy Times that they were going to be withdrawing all Marines from the sandpit.  Who knows?

He and Lilia can go shopping while Rutella and I YAK !

  • velvetlace

Lorelai-   I am so sorry about your father-in-law passing.   I am sending you my thoughts and prayers.  I am glad that you got to talk to your cub on the phone.  Better that way then email etc.  God bless you and your whole family!

    Mary

  • Greg-and-Angela

    Momma Kat,

Our son has been in 29 palms for several months and the phones seem to work good. He also Skype's alot so connection is good. They will not be in contact while in the field and MV is mostly field duty so be patient.

    Lorilei,

So sorry for the family loss, both yours and the Navys. Master Chief is a big deal and I am sure your son is proud of that family history. Our prayers are with you and your son.

  • vettespace

Lorelai, sorry to hear of your father in law's passing.  He sounds like a wonderful man!

Kat, my cub attended mojave viper (CAX) in Nov. '10 and froze in those concrete block barracks with no heat!  He was bored most of the time.  He did say that they ate pretty well there though!  He had an AT&T cell phone and said he was one of the few that could get reception in the desert.

    Princess, Yeah!!!!!!!!!  Homecoming Soon!!!!!!!

  • Greg-and-Angela

    Kat,

Our son moved up to 29 Palms a little over 4 months ago from CP and did CAX and is now 2 weeks into Advanced Mojave Training. He said it is the same thing with different weather. It is wet and cold this time. He has been the only Corpsman allowed to fire the LAW rocket and the Tow Missile in his battalion. He was given a coin from the Base Commander and Base Sgt Maj. for being the best Corpsman in the field during the first MV Training. He also has an Apple phone and has no trouble with it. He got cable for his internet connection on base.

    Kat-

Carol's definition of green is perfect.   I cannot expound upon perfection. :)

  • mikes mom

    I hate deployments ! Good Morning Everyone : )

OMGosh yesterday I was wearing capri's ! Our weather is so crazy hear in sunny Cali...

Lori its always nice to see you here... I didn't know your son was having issues with his hearing.. Please give him my best : )

Gosh we have some new faces here... it seems like just yesterday I was wondering who was going to make us 500 and now look at us ! Wow Carol you have a  popular group.... Well, I'm going shopping today for my sons wedding in April.. I have been doing the samething as Lorelai .. I hate all this deployment weight I gained and have had a hard time to lose... I'm doing it though: ) So today I'm just looking... I may have to borrow those shoes of Lorelai .. : )

  • mikes mom

I'm with you Ruthella I need to know.... I google everything... Oh, and my son said those glasses were just to be funny... I hated that I thought while he was deployed something happened and I didn't know.... Today I am going to one of my Favorite "Brighton" store to get my Red Cross charm which will represent my Corpsman and our favorite Combat Medic : )

  • BugsMom

    Hello Everyone!

Lorelai, sweetie, I'm so sorry to hear about your FIL's passing.  To have to tell your cub about it in the sand pit, that's tough, thank God you were able to do it on the phone atleast.  You're right, opening an email with that news would be very difficult.  Sounds like it will be a beautiful service.  You and your family are in my prayers!  Hugs to you sweetie, I love you!

Ruthella, Ro only sleeps 2-3 hours at a time as well, and everyone keeps telling my daughter to give her a little rice cereal so she'll sleep more, then the doctor screams no cereal yet.  It's very confusing, I have to admit I gave mine cereal around 6 weeks of age and it did work.  I'll bet you're still in your jammies aren't you?  iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Kat, we are all here for you sweetie.  Deployments suck, period! They don't get any easier, but you learn that you aren't alone.  Don't be afraid to share what you feel, we've all felt it, that's what makes this group so amazing. During Bug's deployments, I felt so sick and panic stricken so often.  I didn't sleep much for the same reasons you don't sleep as well as you did before. I thought I could handle knowing everything, but I was one of the moms here that couldn't handle it.  I didn't watch the news or read a newspaper for most of the time he was in the sand pit.  Each time I thought I would fall apart, one of these other amazing moms and dads would reach down and pull me back up, they didn't let me fall and we won't let you fall either.  There was 1 mom that would call me when she heard or read something that she thought I would find out about that she knew would upset me, she would talk me through my panic attacks. Others would actually answer their phones when I called them, some of my oldest and closest friends would avoid me, but they didn't.  Remember to breathe, cry when you need to and screaming is perfectly acceptable!  Hugs to you mom!

  • IDCmom#1

I have just lurked on this group page while I was an FMTB mom but now I am becoming more concerned about deployment and think I need to do more reading here.

I will worry about my daughter-in-law, an IDC, when her ship deploys the end of February and worry about my son, an IDC at Camp Pendleton, while he continues to learn his new job and plays mommy and daddy to their three year old while Mommy is at sea.

  • BugsMom

Hi Docsmom, you've come to the right group. Sounds like your son will have his hands very full while mommy is out to sea.  There are plenty of moms here with tons of information, so if you have any questions, ask away, someone will either know the answer or where to direct you to find the information you need.  And you couldn't ask for a better group to support you along the way.  God bless!

  • IDCmom#1

Thanks, BugsMom (funny, I call my son Bugs as well).  In the 8 years my son has been in the Navy, his only "deployment" was six months to GTMO, Cuba.   He did meet his wife there so guess it was a good deployment.

  • mikes mom

CMK - I remember when my son deployed the first time.. He came home for a short visit...The day he left to go back to CL I looked at him and said" I know I'm looking at a man, but all I see is my 2 year old wearing his cute Red Tennis shoes "... It hurt so much to say good-bye to him....

This is the best group ever to belong to...

  • Kym Ship 11 Div 118

CMK. Sounds like our sons are on the same path. He has already been to Virginia and is off to mojave viper soon and set to deploy in April. A lot to soak in and digest.....
  • vettespace

Hi Kat, my cub deployed last year doing foot patrols with a Marine unit in remote areas of Helmand Province.  You'll have to see what and where your cub will be over there since conditions vary wildly.  AC, no AC, running water, no running water, inside the wire, outside the wire, etc., etc.  Once you find out what he'll be doing and where he'll be stationed (generally) we can offer advice on what he may want sent to him...Hang in there!

  • IDCmom#1

Carol, thanks for your welcome.  I followed the return of your son and Ruthella's through the board.  Even though I don't know either of you, I felt like I was right there, trying to get these fellows on their planes and HOME!

I was lucky to get to "know" Gloria during FMTB and we briefly met at graduation.  What a sweetheart.  I am following Ruth's son on his ship on Facebook.  It appears to me that my daughter-in-law's cruise will follow the same path as his.

My heart was just pounding as I was reading about the April deployments to Afghanistan.  I feel safer with my daughter-in-law on a ship but if my son is sent IA to Afghanistan (which could be with Marines or Army - I didn't realize they would go with the Army) during the next three years, I will be needing the same strength so many of you show. You are just amazing.

Yes, two IDCs in the family.  We are so proud of them.  As other IDC wives and moms and dads know, the school is very intense and stressful and that is just on the family members!  We had their daughter for the year they were in school (with trips back and forth every three months and lots of skyping) which was even harder on them.

  • BugsMom

Hi Everyone, it's been such a crazy day, but I finally got to check in with you all. Docsmom, wow, you got to meet our Gloria?! I would love to meet her, she is such a blessing, a real sweetie! Glad you have jumped in to join us. This group is such a blessing, no matter where your kids are, we're here for you.
Kat, the very word deployment hits like no other word! It can rock you to the core and knock you to your knees. We'll be here to help you back up.
There is so much love and respect in this group and so much information, none better.
Hi Sir Vette, haven't talked to you in quite awhile, how you doin?
Carol, the stories our kids come home and tell us, OMG! Hope you have all your homework done so you can play this weekend!
Betty, thanks for the coffee, sorry I'm so late.
Hugs, will be back before I run out for the day and weekend.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Kat- my son just got back a couple of months ago and he is with the 2nd CEB and rode in the buffaloes. He said it was mostly boring but beat kicking in doors. To give you an idea here is a pic he took from inside one...

  • Dan's Dad (John)

When he was at home over the holidays he said he's having trouble sleeping, and gets more anxious but they say that's normal while they transition home. He's excited about getting new orders soon and getting closer to home. He told his mother that he started an EMT course, he was pleasantly surprised his superiors approved it. He calls the CEB the "Career Ending Battalion" he can't wait to get out of Lejeune!

  • Dan's Dad (John)

Thanks for asking Carol. You're just nosy I know. LOL!

  • vettespace

Bugsy!!!!!!!  I'm doing fine, been busy with work lately so hopefully that means selling more homes!!!!!  :-)

John, CL is just not an attractive place!  My cub much preferred CP!  Hope your cub gets a location that he wants and will enjoy!

Carol, get back to studying!!!!  LOL

  • BugsMom

John, my son still has problems sleeping and gets anxious, but he's doing much better. He's still not in school or employed, but he's trying now and thats a huge step!
Carol, I will be seeing my little angel tomorrow, but this time I have to share her. My former FIL lost his battle with cancer Tues. He was the only one who was still nice to me after the divorce. I got to see him when Ro was born, he had just had radiation therapy, God bless him. His wife wants me to come up with my kids. My ex inlaws have not been very nice to her. When my former SIL heard I was coming she invited herself to be there as well. This should be interesting, anywho, I'm taking her a wind chime. It's my way of dealing with the loss of a loved one, I find them very comforting, hope she does as well. If you feel the earth shift tomorrow morning, it could be that my ex husband has arrived on the scene as well, you just never know. lol Oh, I have new pictures if anyone wants to see my little one......she's a doll if I do say so myself!
  • mikes mom

Welcome to our new moms and dads : )

Deployment isn't ever easy and to our to comers you do have a lot of seasoned parents here ! Gosh when we first started it was only Ruthella that was seasoned and it was just she and I with sons deployed too ... I sure hope all this ends soon !

Well, 7 DAYS and A WAKE UP !!!!!! I will be at CL waiting for my deployment to end  and see my son !!! YAY!!!! TUBE TOPS are ready....right ladies ?  LOL

  • mikes mom

John - My son has and is still having the same problem your son is having... He has re uped for 3 more years and has orders for Washington State... He feel the same way about CL as your son... Lila has been a life savor for "M" she is so good to him and very patient... It sadens me always to hear about our kids and the problems they are now having now that they are back home.... All of our sons ! Again I Hate This !!!!!

  • mikes mom

Betty you bet : ) Itsgoing to be so exciting !

  • BugsMom

Have fun Princess! Got my tube top all ready and waiting!
Betty, will work on that picture, and will keep some of you on speed dial for back up. Funny they weren't nice to this woman for the past 27 years...now they're all over the place up there!
  • BugsMom

Everyone have a great weekend, will talk to you on Monday. Hugs and prayers!
  • mikes mom

OMGosh what a small world AbbyBlue : )

  • Greg-and-Angela

    Kathy PCM

Your son will love CP. 29 Palms not so much. There is public transport at CP and he can go into San Diego and see the sights. Sea World and the Zoo are free for the military once a year and they have discounts for card holding military everywhere in town. 29 stumps is as boring as it gets and there is not much to the town. If he gets the truck it is not to far from LA or Vegas so remind him to not drink and drive. My son has a car there and everyone needs a ride so he is like a taxi driver. Congrats to your son and thank him for his service.

  • velvetlace

    Carol-

I will keep my fingers crossed for you that you get the job with the utility company.   If they are smart, they will hire you!

I havr been busy with Kiwanis and Key Club.  Lots to do, but I am enjoying doing volunteer work after all the years that I have worked either as a teacher or an attorney.  I am stil keeping my bar license active since I am thinking about practicing in probate law.

  • abbyblue

nothing with the VA is easy................

  • velvetlace

@Ruthella-   Usually people think of attorneys as scumbags.   I am glad your impressed, but I am just a regular Navy mom just like you.  When I had finished my second masters degree, I applied for administration at the school district where I taught.  I was told that since my husband was also applying for administration that men were picked first for the administrative jobs.  I was so angry with this,  but I was determined to use my anger in a positive way.  So that is how I ended up going to law school. I decided that maybe I was going to have to go into another field, and I refused to get a doctorate in education!   So, you see if was more frustration then anything.   I am glad that I did since I have enjoyed the law very much.

What I have decided to do is Fudge and Rocky Road in cute bags from Michaels tide with either Yellow or Navy Blue ribbon ( Her Wedding colors )... Oh, the best part of this Bridal shower is that my Ex MIL will be there ! She tought me how to be a Great MIL : ) She was BAD !!! LOL Oh, well I can do this for my son and his father and I are okay with being around each other, so the day of the Wedding there won't be a problem ...

  • BugsMom

Hi Everyone, just poppin in to let you know I survived my visit with the ex inlaws. With the exception of my former SIL reminding, more than a few times, of just how long I've been out of that family, it wasn't all that bad. Heck I got to hug my little granddaughter most of the day. Y'all would have been proud of me, I didn't hiss outloud once! lol
Welcome home Annabear! And by the way, you give some pretty warm hugs there yourself! I don't have one from Ruthella just yet to compare it, but someday I'm gonna get me one!
Princess, I'm green with envy, a hug from Thella Belle!? You're a lucky gal. Have a great trip.
Ruthella....iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, we did get grandbabies at the same time, dang cute ones at that! Hope you get those loan people all straightened out soon! You're correct....deployments suck! Give Jamie and Jadin a hug for me and give Noah a big ole squeeze!
Carol, I gotta read back to see what's going on with C. Hope he had a blast with the family!
Sharon, I want to see pictures too!
Lorelai, I'm thinking about you sweetie!
Betty, thanks for the coffee, sorry I'm so late, I'll do better tomorrow, I hope!
    Love to you all!

I am certainly old enough to be a grand parent, but I was a late bloomer having a child at the ripe old age of 40 years.  Someday I will catch up to you lucky ladies, but I maybe as old as Methusula before that happens!   I love all the grandparent stories.

  • Anna

My Ex SIL sent this to me and I had to share.  You may have seen it before, but I haven't.

This is definitely worth passing on..........

    One Ticked off Canadian Housewife

This is very good PLEASE read....

Thought you might like to read this letter

to the editor. Ever notice how some people

just seem to know how to write a letter?

    This one surely does!

This was written by a Canadian woman, but oh how

it also applies to the U.S.A., U.K. and Australia .

THIS ONE PACKS A FIRM PUNCH

Written by a housewife in New Brunswick , to

her local newspaper. This is one ticked off lady...

"Are we fighting a war on terror or aren't we? Was

it or was it not, started by Islamic people who

brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001

and have continually threatened to do so since?

Were people from all over the world, not brutally murdered

that day, in downtown Manhattan , across the Potomac from

the capitol of the USA and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn't they?

Do you think I care about four U. S. Marines urinating on some dead Taliban insurgents?

And I'm supposed to care that a few Taliban were

claiming to be tortured by a justice system of a

nation they are fighting against in a brutal Insurgency.

I'll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle

East, start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere belief

of which, is a crime punishable by beheading in Afghanistan .

I'll care when these thugs tell the world they are

sorry for hacking off Nick Berg's head, while Berg

screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I'll care when the cowardly so-called insurgents

in Afghanistan , come out and fight like men,

instead of disrespecting their own religion by

hiding in Mosques and behind women and children.

I'll care when the mindless zealots who blow

themselves up in search of Nirvana, care about the

innocent children within range of their suicide Bombs.

I'll care when the Canadian media stops pretending that

their freedom of Speech on stories, is more important than

the lives of the soldiers on the ground or their families waiting

at home, to hear about them when something happens.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a

CANADIAN soldier roughing up an Insurgent

terrorist to obtain information, know this:

    I don't care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the

head when he is told not to move because he

might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank:

I don't care. Shoot him again.

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed 'special' food, that is paid for by my

tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being 'mishandled,' you can absolutely believe, in your heart of

    hearts:

    I don't care.

And oh, by the way, I've noticed that sometimes

it's spelled 'Koran' and other times 'Quran.'

Well, Jimmy Crack Corn you guessed it.

    I don't care!!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to

all your E-mail Friends. Sooner or later, it'll get to

the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don't agree, then by all means hit the delete

button. Should you choose the latter, then please don't

complain when more atrocities committed by radical

Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering, if

during their life on earth, they made a difference in

the world. But, the Soldiers don't have that problem.

I have another quote that I would like to

share AND...I hope you forward All this.

One last thought for the day:

Only five defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

    1. Jesus Christ

    2. The British Soldier.

    3. The Canadian Soldier.

    4. The US Soldier, and

    5. The Australian Soldier

    One died for your soul,

the other four, for you and your children's Freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON,

    AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET!

AMEN! GOD BLESS CANADA AND AMERICA .

  • Anna

Sorry for the long reading below.  Just had to share.

It is a sunny, dry 54 here in Dallas.  Man, we need more rain and haven't had any winter at all.  It somehow manages to show up in Feb, so am waiting.  We go to Chicago in a couple of weeks, am so hoping there isn't snow like what Lorelai found herself in.  And, I doubt I will be finding any cheap Jimmy Choo shoes.

Hooray!!!  For Homecomings!!!  It is such a blessing. Are you going to be running the streets in your birthday suit, Ruthella???  LOL!!!
