Anna - that was great!!!! Thank you for posting it.  I made sure I sent it out.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    Oh geez Betty, good one!

Vette, how could I be mad at you?!  It's pretty cool, isn't it?

Anna - hm.  And wondering why only four, what about all the coalition forces?

Thanks Carol for the care package offer!  You can send me some Calgon any time though :)  "take me away..."  Now you're gonna tell me you're TOO YOUNG to remember those ads lol

Ruthella-  The news is that the troops are getting out in of Afghanistan in 2013,  I think we are having lots of problems with our troops being killed by the Afghanistan soldiers that we are training to take over.  These Afghan soldiers apparently are not our friends.  There was an article in The Navy Times today how our troops are being killed by our friends, the Afghans.  Yikes!  So much for friendship!!!

Anyway, I am so glad that this war will be ending for our corpsmen.   They will still have plenty of work to do in the hospitals.

    Yippee!!!!!!

I'm going to be 55 this year too....Didn't know that was the official age of "Senior Citizen" world....LOL!  They will take me spitting and kicking!

Mariann......I didn't get to go to either by cub's leaving or Homecoming.  He didn't want me to be at the departure....said it would be too hard.  He left behind a wife and two month old twin sons.  I didn't go to his Homecoming because of drama with my ex and a bad decision on my part.  I would move the heaven and earth to take that decision back.  I will not make that mistake again.

  • Anna

Uh oh.....Lorelai!!  Don't want to start any rumors about us sleeping together....LOL!!  Man, that weekend seems just like yesterday and then like it was a million years ago.  We need to do it again!!  Happy Birthday to Sheldon.......I just love watching that show now that I can relate/connect with your hubby.  What a hoot!!  Love the cake, too!!  How many full moons until your cub comes home, Lorelai???

Geez louise, Carol......AARP is already knocking on your door???  And, you are just a baby....:-)

And, 20 extra bucks, Thella Belle.......now we can buy those red shoes to go dancing in.....

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Aw how nice, birthdays all around!  Head spinning from all the happiness!

Sad for you to be so young Carol :(  Someday you too will know the joy of getting McDonald's "senior" coffee for 50 cents (so my neighbor tells me lol)

Hey Princess, got your tiara all packed and ready to go??

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I SERIOUSLY want that plane, and the tiara goes with so well!

My eyes are crossing but getting work done.  I have CSPAN on in the background & just watching Gen Petraeus, it's so odd to see him in a business suit and not in uniform and all his medals.

Hey Carol, what's up with all that snow in Colorado?!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I saw that in DC, the cherry trees are in full bloom, about two months early.

Hey did you see Michelle Obama doing 25 pushups with Ellen Degeneres on her show?  Love it!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

So I'm guessing beets & B sprouts won't be on Sam's birthday menu this weekend?  How are you all celebrating the big 16?  Sheesh, mom of a 16 yr old - you're gettin' up there...

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hoooraaay Lorelai!  Such a pretty picture, too.

  • Anna

Here is a pink tube top for Princess to wear in her plane with her crown......

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Ooh Anna I like that one!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Anyone have a spare $459 I have?  Holy cow.  The little propeller even spins when you pedal.  Aww.....pink pedal plane

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

OMG that was such a funny episode, how perfect heeheehee

  • Anna

I got to see that episode, too, and loved it!!

Just read the article you posted earlier, Carol.  No one said it was a tissue alert.....sigh!

What is on everyone's dance card this weekend???  Hubby is at a Partner Retreat this weekend, so Tonight is Chick fil A and Say Yes to the Dress.  Then, I am going shopping with my girls tomorrow.  Nost sure about Sunday.  Don't have a dog in the hunt for the game, but will watch the commercials.  And, of course.....the National Anthem.

  • Anna

Oh My, Marcy.......that plane is even on sale.  :-)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

I know it Anna!  Maybe I'll get it, wire it up and turn it into a chandelier :)

I watch SYTTD too, I just love how the brides toss out their budgets like it's nothing: "I'd like to keep it under 5."  As in $5,000.  Yikes!

  • velvetlace

Anna and Carol-   You are so young.  I wil be 63 in April.  I am one of those mothers that waited to the last minute biologically speaking to have a baby.   I was almost 41 when my corpsman cub was born.   It is great getting those Denny senior citizen meals, not!!!  I would trade those to be 30 again!

    Mary  :)

  • velvetlace

Anna-  Love that tube top.  I have two in my cedar chests that I used to wear about 30 years ago.  They are sequined tub tops---one is gold and one is blue!   Oh, the good old days when I could wear tube tops!

    Mary  :)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Mary I like your style :) Some people pack away linens and the like, you've got your tubetops in there!

Yet another birthday - Marsha's son Mike is 25 today. That's a lot of Aquarians! "When the moon is in the seventh house" (that's me singing LOL)

  • velvetlace

Marcy-   I loved your comment.   I guess you can take the tube tops away from the girl, but you cannot take the urge to wear the tube top our of the girl!!!! <3

Carol-   Yes, I will have to get cracking on the diet so I can fit into those sparkly, sequined colorful tube tops!!!  I am actually 62 going on 21!   :)

My poor hubby's daughter is getting married the end of Oct in Chicago.  The princess went dress shopping.  The dress cost $4,500.00 and the veil was $2,000.00.  And, she didn't even bat an eye.  She has a budget, so I guess there won't be any food cause it was all spent on the dress....LOL

  • velvetlace

Anna-   I hope the princess has lots of money!   Yikes!   I remember going shopping for a wedding dress with my mom at Broadway (also know as Broadway, Hale) , and I was looking for a simple a-line dress that was modest, not too fussy, and not too expensive.  I borrowed my veil from my sister in law who had been married about 8 months before, and we had a very small wedding so that we did not spend much.  My father then gave my new husband $1000 in cash after we married the day we were married in 1969 because we had saved so much money.  It was nice to start our life with money in the bank.  Are the Princess' parents wealthy?   Just saying'    Mary

  • velvetlace

@Ruthella-   Your son sounds like a miracle worker in his job.   You must be so proud of him, but I am sure that you still worry about him just the same.  It is amazing how much responsibility some of the corpsmen have to deal with in their jobs.  They are truly amazing!   I am very proud of my son, as well.  Mary

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

That must be a whale of a veil Anna :)

Showing my age, my first thought tends to be, "That could be a car!"  Not anymore I guess.  My first car cost $350 LOL  "la dauphine"

  • Anna

That is awesome, Betty.  Yeah!!  For organizational skills.

The Princess is my step-daughter, Mary, and her Dad is footing the bill.  He gave her a budget and she/fiance will pay what she goes over.  Her budget is double what I spent on both of my girl's weddings put together.

  • mikes mom

  • Dan's Dad (John)

Got to hear Happy birthday from my cub this morning. Marcy is right, a lot of Aquarians around! If 60 is the new 40 then 50 must be the new 30, right?

Cub told us he got his pick of orders and if nothing changes he will be closer to home at Pax River by November!

  • velvetlace

BettyB-    I will have to see if I fit into the tube tops that I have.  I think I have filled in since the last time I wore them.   Pre-baby!

Ruthella-  So happy for you and your son.   I think my son will probably stay blue side.  My Dad was a lt. cmdr in the Navy, so my corpsman son is hoping to become a nurse or doctor someday.   I support him in whatever he chooses just so it is positive, like being in the military!   My son was told by all of his superiors that he would make an excellent green side corpsman, but he decided he wanted to work in hospitals or naval vessels or aircraft.  Hopefully, it will work out well for him!

    Mary

  • velvetlace

Well, ladies!   I have completed all of my state and federal income tax forms and mailed them out!   So glad to get that little task done.  I am looking forward to getting my refunds.

Tomorrow-   I will  be watching the Super Bowl with my hubby.   I was hoping a California team, like the 49ers, would be in the Super Bowl to make it more exciting, but I will root for the New York Giants, I guess.  Not too excited without the 49ers!

    Mary

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Carol, I glanced at that and I thought it said "a great day of waxing" !!  Maybe that too lol   Happy Birthday John!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

The princess & DIL have landed!  Ruthella, you'd better be taking some pictures real soon :)

  • Dan's Dad (John)

It would take a day to wax me clean! The kids used to call the hair on my arms and chest "daddy's fur". Excited for you princess!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Oh Betty I'm so glad for you! I'm sure just hearing mom's voice means the world to him as well as vice versa. Happy day! Now where's that special Betty-coffee to celebrate with?? :)
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Here's a great video from yesterday's homecoming at Camp Lejeune - 300 sailors and marines.

Today, another 830 arrive, including our special someone!  Yay princess!!!! She said to get our tubetops on this afternoon, she's "wearing" the same purple one she wore to his last homecoming!  :)

LINK:  22nd MEU returns to Lejeune

"Nearly 300 Marines and sailors with Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment and Combat Logistics Battalion 22 returned to Camp Lejeune Saturday to family and friends after a 10-month deployment at sea with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit."

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

ps Betty - my mom's favorite candy is chocolate cherry cordial, they're so sweet but so good!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

This afternoon's homecoming is 'special time' for mom and Mke's new wife :) and Marsha & Ruthella are getting together tomorrow or the next day.

    Calling dibs on this one!

  • IDCmom#1

Ruth, how long did it take your son to get his packages?  D-i-l leaves the end of this month and think they are following the same path as your son's ship.  Would like to make sure she gets a package at least once a month from us.

  • vettespace

    Marcy...Lookin' Good!!!!!

    Carol...Love the happy dance!!!!!

    Welcome Home "M"!!!!!!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Carol & Anna, Marsha said she loved the tubetop and the tiara fit perfectly :)  She said she'd text when the "party" is about to begin!  She was trying to figure out how to work DIL's videocam this morning LOL
