Sailor son just called. His fellow CP Corpsman was killed in the sandpit yesterday. To say he is shaken is an understatement. They all live offbase in an apartment with this deployed Sailor's wife. What does a Mom say? He said he just wanted to talk to somebody. Needed a hug. Said hugs were all around. So sad and so real for these young people.

  • mikes mom

I am so sorry.. It is never easy for me to read that we have loss another precious soul.. My son has loss friends and I truly don't know how he and his fellow Marines and corpsman get through it..

  • velvetlace

ME-  How awful!!!   I wish this war would end.   May God bless this corpsman and his family.

  • MEsailormom

Reportedly a training accident so a recent text read. Frankly there were a few expetives as well. My son is sort of sequestered in the CTM program so will be back to the apartment after 8 his time and I will probably hear more. My heart goes out to all. I know he can be of assistance somewhere there. I told him he would know what to do.

"Let them eat cake!"...not really sure who said that but I like it. Have a great day out there. Warm here. 30. Spring in about 4 months.

  • Anna

Good afternoon, My Warmest Friends.......it is lunchtime at work and I sit here eating an apple & peanut butter.  Yummy!  Love the cake, Carol......am going to backtrack to find out what you girls are talking about.  :-)

Am getting ready for a fast & furious weekend in Chicago.  We are going to my step-daughter's Engagement Party.  She has every minute/second planned out....phew!  Am tired just thinking about it.

Cub has been sending me videos of the twins.  My, my how they have grown. I just love iphones!!!!  Feb 9th was the one yr annivesary of cub's deployment.  What a wild ride it was......not sure what this year will bring.  Has put in an Officer package, so we just wait.  Cub is taking more courses to finish up his Master's.

Next week I am keeing my two grandkids for four days while daughter & sil go to a destination wedding.  Will be completely worn out.......

That is about it in my world.  Other than work, travel for work and more work.  Ugh!

Camp Pendleton Navy Hospital Corpsman Dies in Djibouti

    Facebook

Petty Officer 3rd Class Kyler L. Estrada

Petty Officer 3rd Class Kyler L. Estrada, 21, was killed in a non-combat related training incident in Djibouti on February 14th, according to the Department of Defense. Estrada was a Navy hospital corpsman assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit based at Camp Pendleton.

According to the Marine Corps website, the 11th MEU is currently on deployment with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. Elements of the group are training at the United States Naval Expeditionary Base, Camp Lemonnier, which is in Djibouti.

On his Facebook page, Estrada identified himself as being from Queen Creek, Arizona, and graduating from Queen Creek High School in 2008. He was married to Alyssa Estrada, and both of the couple’s Facebook pages are filled with pictures taken together.

  • mamawalrus

Horrible.. my mom lives there in Queen Creek. I will have to let her know.

I just got news my son is being deployed,, any one know if the Navy gives them leave to come home before ?

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Mamawalrus, I thought his orders were stateside for 2 years
  • mamawalrus

Maria..he is stationed stateside but with Marines (green side) so that is makes him deployable once he finished Field Med.  Just didnt think it would be so fast.

Carol...I am ok.. not sure if I can say where he is going on here or not. It is not Afghanistan.     That is good news if he gets that leave.  The end of March is when things wills start happening so it is not that far away. I have a mix of emotions to be honest.  Sad, worried, not seeing him for another 9 to 12 months and of course happy that he is getting to do what he wants.  Boy oh boy. and I thought boot camp was bad.  LOL

  • mamawalrus

Betty.. he will be at a base.

  • IDCmom#1

It was just heartbreaking to read about PO3 Kyler Estrada.  This article was especially poignant to me, reading his wife's sentiments.

    http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/feb/16/navy-hospital-corpsman-k...

Keeping his family in my prayers.

He was on the same ship as Ruth's son.

  • mamawalrus

Carol.. thank you.. I will be seeking advice I am sure and some ears when I need to vent.

Betty.. will PM you tonight when I can write.. where is your son now?

Docsmom.....yes very sad. My mom lives there in Queencreek so I forwarded her the article.  A small community so I am sure the news has spread

  • Maria ( 9/132 - HM- 04-2011)

Wow Brenda, I am so glad he is not going to A. I know it will be hard to have him far but as long as he is safe. That is what counts. I am sure N is so excited. You hang in there. Maria
  • Greg-and-Angela

Our son deploys to the sand box mid May. He will get 10 days pre-deployment leave before he goes. We are in Queen Creek AZ too and have met this incredible young  man during DEP. We pray for his family and the safety of all our military families with sailors in training, at war and on bases.

  • Anna

Horse shit!!!!  Too young and too darn soon.  It just makes you crazy

  • mamawalrus

Angela....Queen Creek is a great community!  I love it there.  Will keep you son in our prayers!  Where is your son stationed at?

Maria...Yes I am thankful it is not.  I dont know much about the place he is going but anything anti-American scares me.

Ruthella.. wow how have you done it?  So glad your son is on his way.  Hugs to you and him and thank him for his continues service!

  • Greg-and-Angela

Welcome Home to our favorite wayward son R!!!  We have finished our second round of deployment prayer for him and we agree with you that there should be no more,

Our son is in 29 Stumps and just finished Advanced Mojave Viper Training. He is glad to be out of the cold wet tent and into a shower today! We will look to you all for his protection prayers in March when he Deploys to the sand pit.

  • MEsailormom

@ Ruth....yes son lives with now widowed wife and a couple of others sailors. They have all been tight since A school. He gets his mail at the clinic but will get an accurate address for cards tonight. Yes it was Africa but when I had heard I was told he had deployed to the sandpit. I assumed it happened there but now I know it was "on the way".  It was strange getting the news before the news. So sad for eveybody. Son has a big heart and took great care of me so he will be a big shoulder for his friend. BTW there was a car full of uniformed Navy men here in town....I did not like the look of it and ran the other way. Indeed they were coming to tell a family of a Sailors suicide in VA I think. Anyhow they went past my door and headed for the ferry for one of the outer islands. In this small community you can bet my phone was ringing to make sure my son was OK. Geesh...don't know what to say about being a N4M this week.

  • Greg-and-Angela

    Hi Carol.

T said it was wet and cold the entire time they were there. He said he wont miss the place. He should be home soon for 10 days.

    Ruth

We still pray daily for C and miss talking with him on Facebook. Our son knew Kyler from DEP and A-school. His family are not far from us. This is a small community. Kylers poor wife posted a few weeks ago that she was glad he was only on an MEU, but any time men are in live-fire maneuvers at night with gung-ho Marines it is dangerous. It is dangerous on base, in the field, on a ship or in the sandpit. Pray continually.

Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Kyler Estrada, 21, was shot and killed during a live-fire and maneuvering night training exercise with Marines,

  • Greg-and-Angela

There is certainly lots of politics at work in that region but our Base there is the new training headquarters for the region now that all the dictators we have been propping up are gone. SF gets the limited action in foreign lands and the MEU is plan B if all goes wrong. The troops must stay ready to fight and the Base we gave them there is the place to get acclimatization so to speak for hot and sandy.

  • MEsailormom

Hooray. Sailor son just graduated from CTM!! He posted this snippet trying to describe to his friends what it was. This was just a few days of the training. Thought you all might want to see it.

  • mikes mom

Ruthella - I hate the wait !!!!! I am so sorry for "R"s girls having to wait and in saying this I'm glad his plan was there to help the wounded...

  • IDCmom#1

Those of us who grew up in the military know the motto:  Hurry up and wait.

Think I spent half my childhood standing in a line for something.

Ray. Special day and a special name.

This is my Ray...my Dad... at PIR.

I heard of the 7 Marines this AM on my phone laert. Holy Crap is right. Has this been a bad stretch or is this what it is always like? I don't like it. An an other note a bunch of Maine Marines Reserves got home yesterday and I enjoyed the footage....I pretended Ray was in the group...or one of ours.

  • mikes mom
