Get ready for winter again soon. We had 3" of hail today in AZ and it destroyed all my apricots and peaches in my yard. Tell Hootie to suck it up and get some cheese for his whine. Hope he feels better soon.

    Dawn

If you hear from your son first let me know, I will tell you if I hear from Tony  I hate not knowing where they are all the time. Old parental habits die hard. Stay strong.

Have to shout it out on all my groups.

My daughter-in-law is Sailor of the Quarter on the USS Sampson (DDG 102).  Hurray for her!

  • IDCmom#1

Ruth, seems strange that your daffodils are just two weeks after ours in Florida.  Strange weather.

Need help filling out customs form.  I put the ship's name in the address block.  Where do I put the FPO AP 96678-1303 ?

Docs mom.. sorry to hear of your loss.

My prayers are with you and your family and a big hug to boot!

Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels near CL?  Are there any on base?  Looks like son is not getting any leave before his deployment, no time so I will be heading out there in two weeks.

Also anything you suggest seeing out there?

  • vettespace

docsmom, congratulations to your DIL!!!!!!!!  Outstanding!!!!!!

  • IDCmom#1

Carol, thanks for the info.  I lived overseas for 19 years of my life.  You would think I would remember how to fill out a customs form.  This memory loss is for the birds.

Late last night, a nurse called to tell me my brother had been admitted to the hospital.  When it rains, it pours.  Thank God, my little brother gets there tomorrow for the funeral.  This is just too much, especially for my brother who has just lost his wife.  What is the saying that about God only gives you as much as you can handle?  Hey God, me down here.  I think you have mistaken me for someone else.

I figured that Sister Teresa was right since I only had one son.  I do not think I could have handled more with careers.  In fact, it was hard at times doing laundry at midnight and juggling everything.  Now, I look back on those days with fond memories with a little boy that was so much fun.....now he is in the U.S Navy, and I miss him a lot.

    docsmom-

I am so sorry about your brother being admitted into the hospital.  Hopefully, he will turn around so you can have him for more years.  It is hard when one part of a longterm marriage dies on the other spouse.   I know after my Dad died, my mother just gave up and died about 3 1/2 years later with lots of medical issues.

I will pray for you and your family.

    Mary

Just tell me why........one child can have all the common sense in the world and the other child not so much???  My eldest daughter, who is 35, went to spend the week in Concord, CA.  She packed for California.....the land of sunshine.  WHAT WAS SHE THINKING???  She took flip-flops to wear and no coat.  I asked her if she didn't check the weather, "No, Mom, it is California. It is suppose to be warm here."  Really??? Child???  You are in Northern CA, by the bay, and no place in California(but the deserts) are as hot as Texas........Geez!!!  She did find an Old Navy.  I had to just sit back and laugh.

And, yes, Betty........you, Lorelai and I can shop and I'll get you drinking Margaritas, instead of wine!!!  We won't care about anything else.....LOL!

  • Anna

Nice looking Margarita, Lorelai......just needs to be a bigger glass.....LOL!!

Thanks for the coffee, Betty.  And, yes, I know.......but, you just once hope that some common sense kicks in.

Talked to cub last night.  He seemed kind of in a funk.  That roller coaster called new daddy, new mommie and doesn't know what to do with his life.  LOL!!!  I think his company is pretty sure that the will not be going back to the sandpit this year.  But, that is yesterday's news.  Not sure about tomorrow.  He is talking about trying to become an Instructor at the Corpsman school in San Antonio.  This mom would love that!!!

Hope everyone is safe with all this wild and crazy weather.  We have had tons of rain, and need every drop.  So, it is good.

    Has anyone heard from Bugsy????

S#%T ( excuse my french ) I have been even with my baby that hasn't been deployed ! When will this all end : ( Hugs to you from Cali sweetheart...

  • mikes mom

Carol -  I hope I hurt your feelings  : ( I wanted it to read we all know what your feeling and realize how hard it is for parents.. Hugs

  • mikes mom

Good : )  One thing they don't teach our cubs is how to control their anger ... and thats from Melissa : )

  • mikes mom

Ohhhhh sweetie I heard the same .. yikes as a mom what to do
  • abbyblue

oh Betty best thing you can do is listen to them they most likely will never be able to talk about all they seen and or did to mom or dad or close family. I hear something about something that happened only now that happened IM like dam where did that come from...now there is combat veterans and veterans that were in Vietnam that didn't go out the field  but seen so much right there in camp. the details I will not post. My hubs will carry pain from that war until the day he dies he lives day by day.....some small ideas about your home and making them feel safe and welcome if you like know about placement of sofa ,chairs, ext. I would be happy to give you those. sometimes simple is best. large groups seam to be a problem for some. i have some many ideas.

    abby.

  • abbyblue

    American Legion Auxiliary

Founded in 1919, The American Legion Auxiliary has almost 1 million members from all walks of life. The Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to its communities and to veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support its own programs, as well as other worthwhile charities familiar to Americans. It is all accomplished with volunteers.

While originally organized to assist The American Legion, the Auxiliary has achieved its own unique identity while working side-by-side with the veterans who belong to The American Legion. Like the Legion, the Auxiliary’s interests have broadened to encompass the entire community.

The American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest women’s patriotic service organization. Through its nearly 10,500 units located in every state and some foreign countries, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace. Along with The American Legion, it solidly stands behind America and her ideals

  • mikes mom

Awesome idea Lorelai : ) I love the Patriots

  • vettespace

Hi Carol, I can relate to what you're going through!  My cub just posted this:  "I really need to deploy again. Experienced corpsman looking for marine unit ready to get some."  I think he's definitely off his rocker!!!!

  • mikes mom

I don't even know what to say..... omgosh my heart just hurts that our cubs are hurting like this... "M" was very lucky to land his last deployment he and his marines were so board and had some good fun going from port to port.. I don't like how they send our guys right back out.. they don't even have time to heal.. Sirvette big hugs to you ...
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Something to add to the arsenal for coping - it's worth printing out and putting in a binder:  A TRICARE Guide: Understanding Behavioral Health  It covers pre- and post-deployment, and describes all the options available to our sailors via TRICARE for managing deployment-related behavioral health issues (the subtitle is Common Concerns, Helpful Resources, and How Your Benefits Work for You).

From the DoD - www.militarymentalhealth.org/welcome.asp Anonymous self-assessment tools to help you and your family recognize symptoms and get guidance on getting help"

www.mentalhealthscreening.org/military has programs and this video: A Different Kind of Courage"

I've loved pigs-in-blankets since I was little, Betty, thanks!  :)

  • mikes mom

Betty I had such an awesome day with my son : ) We teased each other so much... LOL When we got to the Monterey Museum of Art..I was just blown away with its beauty  .. He rented ALL of it every room ! I had the lady take a pic of us but she couldn't on my phone ,, ohhhh but give her a fancy IPHONE and Yes she could.. LOL I only have a smart phone.... LOL so I am waiting for "M" to send it to me so I can post the pic ( even if I look like S@#T ) ...

  • mikes mom

Ohhhh Betty you are to sweet ... : )

    We love you Carol
  • Anna

Good Morning to the best group of Mom's & Dad's in the WORLD!!!  Grabbing a cup out of Betty's cabinet for a fresh round of coffee!!  Have read back several days and am wishing I was there to give you a big ole' hug, Carol!!!  I know it is hard to sit back and feel your hands are tied with C.  Nothing more frustrating....gr-r-r-r!!

Look what my cub is doing to get his adrenaline rush these days.....last one on the left.

He is a husband and father and is only thinking of working out/preparing for this race.  He could have broken his neck.  Luckily, he only lost his shoes.....LOL!!  At the start of the race and did the whole think barefoot.  What a dork!!  I feel pain for his wife because of the roller coaster of "what to do".  One day it is getting out, the next day it is putting in an Officer's package.  He is, at least, working on his Master's.  In Nam the guys all did drugs and came back with that problem.  Today, they become RUSH junkies and come back trying to feel pain.  Not sure what the answer is.  I just say ever day & night......"Dear Lord, watch over my son and keep him out of harm's way.  Amen"

  • mamawalrus

Great pictures!  thank you for sharing them.

I am leaving Thursday morning to see my son in CL before his deployment.

His date as of yesterday got moved back a few weeks so this weekend will give us some time to just hang out!   Cant wait!

  • jesspoo05

so i haven't been on here for ages after i even said that i was going to come on more often. well that was before we found out that he was deploying.... we got 45 days notice of it. so i spent every second i could with him understandably.  he is on and IA. he had to go and do training first so i had to say "see you later" to him some weeks back now. I am now only 2 WEEKS away from going to see him!!! i am very excited about that!!!!!!!!!! but being that he is on an IA i don't get to see him off or see him home again. and he will have to stay with the unit for like a month longer after returning so i wont get to see him till he is back at his original base. i also have a lot going on the first few months of the delpoyment so that is helping keep me busy. i now again will be trying to come back on here more. i think that a good support group like this will help alot!! i hope all is well with all of you and yours. i look foward to reading and catching back up with you!

  • jesspoo05

mamawalrus- i will be in CL about a week after you. sounds like our loved ones might be around the same deployment.

  • mikes mom

Mama and Jesspoo - Wow, deployment is not easy and just remember this is a great group to belong to... It sure helped me...

Well, we are 9 days and some change before the Big Wedding ! "M" is doing great and some of his Marine and corpsman friends will be coming : ) ...  He is all ready to leave CL and truly never look back,  and yet he said he will be putting a new tattoo on his arm (the skull 2/2) ...  Its been 2 years now and he seems to be doing great with his mind and soul.. ( Guys a watch him like a mother bear )...

  • mamawalrus

Mikes mom...M is leaving CL as in leaving the Military or just CL?

I love weddings and wishing the best to them both!

  • mikes mom

M is just leaving CL he will no longer be working with the Marines : ) he will be Navy .... His contract was up and did't want to re up... That was my birthday present from him.. He will be going to Washington ...
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

He's always been "Navy" lol Even with the Marines!  No more greenside, welcome to the Blue side of life Mike!

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom
