Welcome marine_navymom!  We met in another group.  She's a wonderful mom and is sending boxes to Jack & Tony.  Thanks for the link to the story, what these corpsmen do is beyond amazing.  So glad you joined us, look forward to seeing you here lots more!

Thanks for that Kathy :)  Tonight is the Corpsman Ball in Virginia Beach for all the corpsmen based at or near Norfolk Naval Station and at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, http://hospitalcorpsmanballnmcp.org  They have 540 attending this year's Ball.  Can't wait to see the pics!

haha did you read the new N4M heading for Father's Day?  I was like "Hey I'm the one who encouraged his interest in the Navy, his dad was against it!"  Oh well whatever!  :)

Hi!  I having problems getting on this site some of the days.  I think it is my computer that is being a pain.  

My son will be home in a couple of months.  He has had the leave approved, and I have bought his airline tickets.  I have not seen him for a year, so I am excitied.   If some of you remember, he had to be admitted into a civilian hospital with a nephrology department in late April for acute renal failure.   He is doing much better now.  He said he is working all the time in the hospital.  It will be great to get him home, and hopefully he can get some rest and relaxation.

KathyPCM - we didn't have any career military experience in our family as you did.  Good for your son for making his own choice!  Congrats in advance on field med graduation - are you attending?

Mary, glad to hear he's doing so well that they have him working!  Nothing like the anticipation of getting your loved one home for a visit, is there? Just ask Carol :)

We just had one of our infamous Arizona dust storms late this afternoon.  I washed down my patios and it seems a hungry mosquito decided to feast on my ankle.  Grrrr scratch scratch scratch

Good for you Kathy!  That's going to be a wonderful visit.  I remember your great pictures from Corps School graduation - now post the next set!  :)  

Kathy, when you first get there, the graduates will be in formation at the right side of the building waiting for the ceremony to start.  There are three platoons so try to scope him out before they march out.

Kathy, I was really lucky that my son was one of the ones in charge so saw him immediately (plus he is decent height - would never have found my husband in a group like that) but once he and the other guy joined the group, I totally lost him. 

When my four year old granddaughter and I drove down to Devil Doc Hall in the evening to pick him up, seemed like every guy (short, tall, white, black, etc.) who walked by looked like Daddy to her.  He wears the Marine cammies once a week at work and I still take two glances before knowing it is my sailor son.    

Marcy, Kathy, and Carol-   Thank you for the good wishes.  I appreciate it very much!   My cub is going to ask, when he is allowed to, to possibly be stationed on the west coast if possible.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.   He was so far away when he had the acute renal failure.   I would like to be closer if he gets sick again.

Amazon says the $11 one is the newest edition (2 edition, Oct 5 2011), so that ought to be fine - sounds like the same as B&N?

I tried going back, did I see Kathy's son is going to MARSOC? Dan has been talking about it lately. He and a buddy started their own training, he knows it's tough to get in but he said they really need corpsman. Maybe that'll get him to reenlist.

What great news Carol : ) "M" has been going to school and wants to be a "Doc" he has such awesome plans... I read about all our "cubs" and it just always fills my heart to see how they have grown up ..  How proud you must be right now of him.. Big Hugs

Well it's a natural progression, and it helps to start giving shape to future plans, even if the goal changes.  It's all good :)

Had a lovely two hour lunch with Ruth at Coco's on Camp Pendleton.  Third time I have been to this restaurant and, while the service was better than the other two times, it still left something to be desired.  BUT, that meant Ruth and I had a lot of time to just talk.  What a delightful woman she is.  Hope Chris knows just how lucky he is!

Oh good, then it was all worth it!  Can you believe graduation is here?!  You're going to love it :)  People say "oh, it's nothing like PIR" and of course it's not!  This is more intimate and intense and carries so much meaning - it's not always about size ;) Please let me know if they still sing Anchors Aweigh at graduation (it was still at Great Lakes when I went) - I had goosebumps not to mention the waterworks started ...  Take movies and pics and have a wonderful time!

Marcy, Ruth and I are the same age. Unfortunately, that is the age when brain cells are not in full force.  Completely forgot a picture!

Holy cat on a hot tin roof Carol, I didn't realize you are in the zone of this monster.  Fingers crossed you'll be taking a deep breath of relief and unpacking the car soon.

He goes on to scale the fireplace and do the hula.  I want somma that Motrin!  :)

Carol, keeping you, friends and family in Colorado in my prayers.  Fire is one of my fears.  I understand how your son feels.  After Hurricane Ivan, we wouldn't let our daughter come home from college to Pensacola.  She was seeing photos on TV of the devastation but we had no power or cable so had no idea what she was seeing.  She came home a couple of weeks later and just cried and cried.

The fire at Camp P is out.  My son texted me yesterday and told me to walk to end of street and look over towards his clinic and I saw all the smoke.  It lasted several hours and was especially scary thinking of what Colorado is going through.  

OMG, Carol-    I will pray that you and your family will be safe!   My son is in Jacksonville, and they have too much rain and water.  I wish they could send it to Colorado.     My Cub said that it was insane last night in JAX with all the rain.  I think they received around 12 plus inches of rain in a couple of day period.  I will be thinking of you and praying that rain is set to douse those flames.

Carol-   How are you?  I have been worrying about you with the fires in Colorado still raging.   I hope that you are safe and that your home is not in jeopardy from those horrible fires.

Windhaven-   I wonder if our cubs know each other.   My son is working at the naval hospital in Jacksonville.

   I am so glad that youare doing OK.   I have seen the pictures of mass destruction from the conflageration that is occurring in Colorado.  I will continue praying for all of you having to deal with such an overwhelming crisis.   God bless you!  I know how those firefighters have had to work excessively long hours putting themselves in grave danger, and I salute these heroes.   I will be thinking and praying that this inferno will end soon!
