Happy Fourth of July to all my wonderful Navy sisters! I pray that God will continue to bless the USA, our military, and our families. I hope that you all have a wonderful time tonight. We are not setting off fireworks here, but we will watch the ones that go off from around us aerially. We may have coastal fog tonight take care of any aerial pyrotechnic watching anyway. Love to all of you-Mary
Ruth VH - Tiger cruise sounds awesome. It's fun reading about the reunions :)
Kathy - so your son will have been in training for more than a year prior to an actual duty assignment? Wow! That's awesome. The Navy makes a huge investment in these Sailors -- but much is expected of them in return.
The theme I keep reading throughout is that they are happy and enjoy the experience even though they are working hard.
Hi Princess...Hi Lori, My son is headed to CL in a week. He'll be assigned somewhere within 2ndMarDiv for the next two years. He's been home on leave the past two weeks! :-)
He deployed with a CL Marine unit to the sandbox last year as he volunteered for an AI slot when he got to his duty station at a clinic in GL. So, he's gone from the lovely winters in GL to the scenic area (LOL) of CL. At least he knows several of his Marines from the deployment! The beaches nearby are nice even if the base isn't that attractive...
Hang in there Lori, let me know if you have any questions. I've been to CL a couple times in the past year and a half. And I'll let you know what unit my son ends up with once he gets there.
Lori, my son says have him talk to his career counselor and tell him he'd like to do a duty station swap. If they can find someone with the same NEC and length of duty, it's possible. There could be a couple trying to get stationed together, for instance...certainly worth a try!
And yes, CL and Jacksonville are infinitely better than 29 Palms, for starters they're not in the middle of absolute nowhere! There are great beaches nearby, it's 45 minutes to Wilmington (picturesque small city on the Cape Fear River, very historic, Ruthella can tell you all about it) and there's the University of North Carolina at Wilmington too.
Lori - My son is at Camp Lejeune right now (coming home in two weeks) and has had good things to say about the base and the nearby beaches. He's be in CAL for a few months and then he's going back (if the nothing changes) and not upset about it. We are from SoCal and it has to better than 29Palms.
Lori - Sweetheart again please call me ... I have thought FBing your son and asking him some questions but I need to talk with you first.. I just love and worry about "J" and you and I have such an awesome history from the gate .. "M" was apart of the 2/2 ... I have a feeling we need to have a M&G : )
OMGosh Lori me too ! Sorry I didn't get home till late and I had to get up at 3:15 this morning : ) What is a good time to call you... Is 4:30 a good time ..I have to go into Salinas tonight and I could call while driving there... I also belong to that group and have a few Marine mom friends on FB .. I even got to meet one of them at "M"s homecoming talk about tears I couldn't stop crying because it was the mom that helped me when "M" was in Afg.. Gotta love our Marine Moms : )
Lori, you'll also want to sign up with emarine.org once you know what unit your son will be with. You may be signed up already with his current unit...
They are enjoying the goodies from Marcy and others from last weeks delivery. They said thanks to Navy Moms! It has been very active latley and over 125 degrees to add insult to injury. Thanks for the support all.
Wow, nobody has been on since Thursday !!!! Well, I can remember back in the day we were busy almost 24/7 : ) Where is every body ? Hmmmm Maybe you all are on vacation and left me by myself... Whats a Princess to do : )
Good morning Princess! It has been quiet here. Cub ends his leave today and heads to CL. It's been nice having him home for a few weeks! What's new on the west coast?
Enjoy the beach walk! I miss being near the ocean! We finally received some much needed rain here over the past few days! I'm glad that "M" loves Washington State...when are you going up to visit?
I'm hoping for Fall .. I'm wanting them to settle in and get use to living together, even though he Lilia have been married a year he was deployed the whole time : )
My soon to be Ex SIL wants to go with me which should be a blast .. (She gets us in the divorce ) LOL
He's looking forward to seeing his Marine buds from last year's deployment! And he's okay with being stationed there for the next two years. He's just anxious to see where he gets assigned once he gets there. He's definitely glad to be away from GL and those winters!
*raising hand* "Here!" Sorry to be late for roll call, seems I can't post here from my phone! I think Marsha has the same situation, wonder what's up with that? Anyway, all is well, cub happy, weather's hot, I'm heading for a swim :)
Holy cow that looks like a spider crossed with a scorpion! I would have been introducing him to the bottom of my shoe, congrats to the one who "bagged" this one :)
Hisbiggestfan, good idea, what's the link to your group?
Kathy, my son sends me pictures of the camel spiders roaming around his clinic on Camp P. I just asked him what the traps the PMTs (Preventive Medicine Technicians) put down (they were told that you couldn't kill the spiders unless they were sprayed directly so they put down these sticky "mouse" traps) had caught. He said no camel spiders but a cockroach, a mouse, dust bunnies, and a corpsman have be "caught."
The sticky trap got stuck to the door stop of my son's office door. He kicked the stop and the trap flew out into the hall. A corpsman walked by and stepped on it and was stuck! In his dress shoes, no less.
DocsMom- I am so sorry. Life sucks sometimes. I hope things work out for the best for your cub. We do love our cubs!
To everyone- I have been so sad about what happened in Aurora, Colorado today. Senseless killings! I know that one of the sailors that was in the movie theater is missing as missing. I am praying that he/she is still alive. May the souls of those killed today rest in peace with God.
Stay safe! I pray for you all and your cubs all of the time! Love you guys!
Usually it is California in the news for our craziness. Colorado is taking the heat off California, so Carol, I have to thank Colorado for that! I must admit though you cannot buy an AR-15 in California. You also cannot buy tear gas or a drum for the AR-15 with 100 rounds. Colorado is still the wild, wild west! LOL! But we love Colorado, nevertheless, for being in the news instead of California!!!!
Hi everyone, i am at my folks for the weekend to celebreate moms, brothers and sisters birthdays and to hug and kiss my baby boy goodbye. He will be moving to texas in about a week. He has an opportunity to become a phlebotomist and to begin nursing school! I am focussing on the positives and as long as he doesn't see the tears in my eyes it's all good. I had to share the news with the group who always welcomes me back with open arms! I'm excited for him just nervous as usual. Big changes for them, he needs to do this and he says he thinks he's ready so Yay! Love you all will be back after a girls shopping trip! Hugs!
OMGosh what exciting NEWS!!!! Not that you need it but Good Luck Bugs : ) And all I'm going to say to you Bugsy is this is easy ...Texas is easy : ) Hugs to you
If you are on more than one of the corpsman groups on N4M, forgive me for posting this request in multiple places, but I cannot remember where I saw this information initially.
My son's PIR is 7/27 then off to A school. Someone recommended an EMT book that was great preparation for them. Was it one of you? What was the title of the book and author? I'd LOVE to get a copy of it! Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Omaha - I do believe it was this group : ) I don't go in the other Corpsman group and I remember reading about it .. Go back some pages and you should find it ...
Carol- I was kidding before. Colorado has done a great job of defusing the bombs in the killer's apartment. I should call him a suspect, but it is hard at this point. I was very impressed with the methodical way that the Colorado police and fire department are working well with the FBI, ATF, and other agencies to gather evidence. I am so sorry that this has happened again to Colorado. I have been glued to the TV the last two days just in shock! Love to you!
Carol- I totally know what you mean. I was really shocked that we lost and airman and a sailor in this wicked attack.
The weather here has been around 60 degrees. Would you believe that I am still wearing sweaters?
I think the DOD should put out the names of our fallen military every day, too. But I think the DOD is afraid to do that. I bought the new Time magazine yesterday. I talks about the many suicides in our military that happen every day. So sad.
Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself since I am new to this group. My son is a greenside corpsman. He is currently at CP attached with a Marine group. He's been there since January. Just saw this group and thought I would join since it looks like a fun group.

Thanks Carol and mikes mom. Carol my son loves CP. He is with the 111th artillary unit. They are going to be doing their last deployment in January and he gets to go with them. Not sure exactly where they are going right now. 2 different spots and they won't say where til it gets closer. It will be his first deployment. My son is just a little over a year in to Navy. Being a greenside doc has been an interesting journey so far. Keeps me on my toes. That's for sure. I am loving it though.
Mikes mom..he seems so far away from me right now. CP feels like the other end of the world but we do talk. I am grateful that he is getting this wonderful opportunity though. Never thought it would be as a corpsman but he has found his passion and I am grateful for that.
