Corpsmen Moms and Dads

They need that mindset in order to be successful in a combat zone.  Unfortunately, I also think it makes transitioning back to the civilian world difficult for many of these individuals once they leave the service.  This is why transitioning services/counseling is so important.

Thank you Carol and vettespace.  It makes sense, of course.  Just kinda hard for this lover-not-a-fighter to understand.  So glad you are all here.  No one in my immediate circle has any experience with this.

Carol and Marine_Navy Mom - thank you for the insight.  My son finished MART today and classes up to BRC on Friday.  I am so grateful that they are putting him through such a rigorous training and preparing him for whats to come in the real world because my book - the better prepared they are the better chance they have of coming home.  He went into this knowing that it would be one of the toughest things he ever did - now he just has to suck it up and make it through.  I always appreciate the insight and advice - after all I'm just a mom who worries about mine.

Good news from my corpsman friend Ronald!  "Getting back home next month. This deployment is finally over. I wanted to thank you for submitting my name to the "Navy Moms" list. I've gotten three packages from ppl. I will be sending them thank you cards when I get back."   Thanks moms!!

My prayers and thoughts go out to the family of HM 3rd class Clayton Beauchamp.  He was killed on August 7th in Helmand Province.    I pray that this war shall soon be over.  I know that our corpsmen sons and daughters are much needed and their healing helps many.  God bless all of you!

ruthella....thank you.  I am assuming Brown water Navy is the original name for our Field Med Corpsman.  I have been reading a lot. Haven't heard much from my son but didn't expect to since it's basically bc all over again...only more.  I get an occasional text.  It did take 3 weeks for the socks I sent to find him. I am very grateful for this site and for all of you who have been at this so long.

 I met Dramasoul on another group and she surely is a fit here, voracious appetite for learning.   - haha DS L-----,  I was going to tell you, we have a thing here, we like to know each other's real names if you're willing to tell :)  ...we get to chatting and before you know it we're good lifelong friends though all this.

Now that you tell me about the PBR's, I remember them. I have several patients who are Marine and Navy vets (I am a dental hygienist).  They all talk about their 'docs' with such respect and reverence. Most of them are alive because of a Corpsman.  Very proud of my son and the choice he has made.  Still gonna worry tho'!

Marcy...don't mind giving my name at all.  I am really glad you steered me here! It is very difficult for my friends and family to understand what it is that we experience as parents of Corpsman/Sailors. 

Ruthella, you are right.  It is all a bit overwhelming.  Any more reading you can recommend is greatly appreciated.

I was laughing about the 'smart phones'.  Kinda sad that the phones are smarter than I am! I keep telling my kids that I grew up with rotary phones and I was 10 before we got a television.  I think it's pretty amazing that I can use a computer and a smartphone! I even text....not while driving.  Whoohoo!

mikes mom...I am watching the Olympics, sipping a nice white Chardonnay and typing on the computer.  We need to mark this day in history.  Normally walking and chewing gum are a challenge for me.  Broke my toe 3 weeks ago in a Yoga class.  I had not had any wine at the time.

LOL!  I seem to remember reading that somewhere.  Well...we have some nice wines in Oregon.  Still a little left.  Where was Jazzfest?

Marsha...yeah.  I had just seen my son off to Camp P and went to the gym to take a Yoga class.  First few minutes of the class, caught the toe next to the big one on the mat and heard a crunch.  Didn't hurt that bad so I did the whole class. Not one of my smarter moves but I hate missing my workout!

Watching the closing ceremonies too.  Apparently Jessie J broke into my closet and stole my leotard, hm

I sent my son a text about it and told him what I was doing for it (ice, NSAID, buddy tape) and asked him what else I could do.  His text was "STAY OFF OF IT, MOM!".  He knows his mom really well....

It did but not until I finished the class. I just thought is was stubbed so I powered through it.  After class I looked at it and realized that it was broken. 

San Jose Jazz Fest?  Sweeeet!

So shall we all meet up in Rio in 2016?  Lauren's toe should be good to go by then :)
