Good Morning Carols_Kitchen, I kinda figured it would be to good to be true, As it is I'm having a hard time getting paperwork from him mailed from his Carrier. And yes long hours of work and Duty. Oh well he will have to wait till he comes down, but then How would I pack it for him to take back, how would dry ice hold up in the Box? never done anything like this before. I'm thinking dozens of tamales, deep firied Burritos (green Chili) Posole you know the traditional stuff he said he would be down for christmas so I want to make sure he takes some food back. him and buddies live in Barracks which looks like a nice two bedroom apt. And I know they dont do no cooking so I thought it would be nice to load him up with some home cooked meals to share. Thank You for your response and I will wait for a How to response thank you!

Pat L... thank you. I feel the love...I have been trying to get back on here, but no matter how I tried, my profile wasn't working. so I had to start from scratch, which was fun NOT. I was hoping somewhere in Navy Mom land, someone would remember me .I've since taken up quilting, trying to sew more and all that fun and exciting stuff
After I revamp my sewing room, I will get back into the pillowcase game. Right now I have to get my room cleaned so we can sleep in it again...have a great day

Hi carols kitchen. My oldest son is in his 2nd week down at Pensacola waiting on his A school classes to begin, we couldn't be more proud of him! HOOYAH!
During boitcamp he told me about how many recruits didnt get mail or the support that he had, at PIR we adopted a shipmate to join us as we celebrated because he had no family to come. It was an eye opening experience and broke my heart that these young brave people are doing big things for all of us and we can do little things to show them our gratitude.
During bootcamp, those days were long and this site has been such a huge help, so i found this group and am excited to see how I can help our Sailors.

Just a reminder. If you want to stay on this page, or the whole Navy for Moms site, you must make posts. Someone tried to sign in after a long absence, and had been removed for non-activity.

Ladies I have a Question, I had spoken earlier to an Ombudsman for the USS Theodore CVN 71, and she wanted to know how they could get adopted without a Sailor putting in for it. She mentioned there are many a Sailors on the Carrier who have no family and she thinks it would be a Great thing to do. I mentioned how My Son helped me to find a Sailor on Coronado Base who I could send a care package to who had no family and told her about what you ladies do about adopting a division or group on ships. she was so excited to here that there is a site on here that does this. I explained I help out on Boot camp Moms.

we need one person onboard who could act as point of contact. Is there a Chaplin on the ship? Or an LPO? There needs to be an office space for storage of care boxes for about a week or so. Carol

I asked her to log in the site Navy Moms and gave her this site, she said she will look into it. And I will relate the message as well. I told her you ladies do such a great job and many on here as well pitch in and help. she thought it was amazing to have a site like this that would help. she said there are many that are alone.

Hi there. Our son got the job he wanted. He will be working for Electric Boat through General Dynamic. His last assignment had him in dry dock with the USS Mt Pillior (sp? Still brain freeze from bell ringing with the a Salvation Army) in Groton, CT. He and his wife bought a home in Norwich, CT, since he knew 12 years was it for him. He is going back as a supervisor. It’s been fun watching his pix as he spends down his unused vacation days.
I expect to still be with you here on Molly’s Adopt a Sailor for a while longer.

Hello! Thank you for the add!
My Sailor had PIR December 13th and is currently in Goose Creek, hopefully starting "A" school soon.
It's been an adjustment having him not need me for anything and I am trying to find small ways that I can help our new "Navy Family" I don't do a LOT of sewing, but I have made costumes for our Church Christmas Pageant so I am hoping that is enough talent to help out.
Our Church group gets together for different projects and I wanted to bring this project to them to see if we can get a bunch done.
I do love this Navy for Moms website!! It has been so helpful on this new journey!

Super, Baker1013.
We loved visiting our sailor in GC. Great things to and and places to eat in Charleston. We even have a brick in the downtown street, as we used to go there all the time.
Our Son was a machinist mate. He just finished 12 years. Decided it was time to go civilian. He was in Norfolk, VA, Kings Bay, Ga and Groton, CT. He and his wife bought an 1843 house in Norwich.
Pillowcases are easy to sew....the first one took me an hour. After that, I did them in a production line, and could sew more. We also have found a good source for seconds white pillowcases for tie dye.
If you want to learn how to hold a “packing party” with your group, we can teach you. We adopt a different group each month. Molly’s Adopt a Sailor is also on Facebook.

Do we need to use Large Usps boxes only? Are mediums ok?
Feb 2, 2020

North Mom, I just useda medium size box last week. It fit all that I had, and I didn’t want to spend more to fill a large box. It’s the same price as listed on USPS, no discount.

When they ask for spices - does that mean single serving packets or regular plastic jar size?
Feb 10, 2020
NorthMomof8
i guess I have a similar question for all things ... powdered drink mixes - singles for water bottles or canister? Or are they happy with anything?
My son is still in A school so I haven’t experienced packing for a ship yet ☺️

NorthMom, The individual "drink sticks" to flavor bottles of water are best. As far as spices, you can get the plastic bottles...they will share!

How did you find us?
I’m Carol, one of the admins on our Facebook page. We are currently on the “wait” of hurry up and wait military life. We look forward to running our adoptions again soon. Many of our pillowcase sewers have been busy making masks.

Hi Carol! Well It is Me Becky C and I am Back! - My son is now a Commander - I started out with Molly's back when it was first birthed! My emails go screwed up and our family went thru some things, lost our home to fire in 2013, shortly after my mom pass from pancreatic cancer and my membership here on Navy4Moms was removed, and or archived - so it took some time to be back in again, so I guess I am just right now exploring - old stomping grounds! Son and family is due to post to from NavySupplyHeadQuarters to Germany here soon, but with the virus and his schooling thankfully it has been delayed, for a while anyway! We are all so excited for their new Post to Gemrany! He now has 3 kids and a wonderful wife, all this has happened since I was last in here in Navy4Moms -
My dad is ill so have been doing palliative care and I come and go to my home, where my main computer is, and back to his farm to do care, so coming and checking in is a bit few and far between!

My grandson's ship will be going on deployment soon. How do we get his ship adopted while gone? What forms need to be filled out ahead of time?
Thanks Martha
May 29, 2020
carols_kitchen
Hi Nana 51. Your Sailor can go to mollysadoptasailor.com and follow the form for adoption. Let him know that we prefer to take groups vs whole ships, especiallysince we will be starting back from scratch, so to say, soon. We have taken two months off due to C-19
in the meantime, if you have a group of maybe 4, and a place to meet, you can start your own adoption process, following Covid-19 rules. We want everyone to remain healthy and safe.
Continue your questions! Please!

Our sailor has gone from riding submarines, to building them. After twelve years, he joined Electric Boat/ General Dynamics. He’s loving being around some of the same brothers (neither of his subs had women aboard) but also being able to be on land.
I still help with our adoptions, still follow OPSEC, and still help run our Molly’s Facebook page. Here he is working from home on time off

Good Morning carols_kitchen,
Thank you for adding me to this group. That's awesome. My dream was of snakes chasing me. Lol I would have preferred your dream. :)
My Sailor is an HM and he has been in for almost three years. He is stationed out in Jax, Florida. He will be moving later but due to COVID can't see him now so that is a bummer.
I am a Navy brat so it has definitely been a roller coaster of emotions. :) So proud of everything he has accomplished so far but miss him so. :)
