Thanks Emma. Shore duty on the island where S's ship is based is only 1 year. So I was just wondering......
  • sailormann's mom

My son was told that he might be going to San Diego and will be on a frigate ship. Are any of you familiar with this? Any feedback will be helpful.
  • diannep

Yes, Maussie. What Emma said is what my son said too. Ship, shore, ship, shore.....etc.
  • Kim... Aloha

does anyone one know what NSU watches means? I typed it into the Navy Speak (to the right) but nothing.
  • Kim... Aloha

i bet that was what he was referring too. He did mention he needed to iron his NSU the night before. I'm not used to hearing the words "IRON" come out of my sons vocabulary.

    Again, many thanks
  • Kim... Aloha

I thought this was strange. My son said the only location he could get good Wi-Fi was in front of the Library (I think thats what he said, I'd had a glass or two of wine when he started facebook IMing me last night).

He did say that the barracks would be getting Wi-Fi but by the time they did he would be gone.

Still happy with the food (doesn't say much for my cooking) LOL.
  • Kim... Aloha

We are doing great. So your son can use his 4 or 3 G to toggle to his computer? I looked at that with my cell phone but it was an extra $45. per month on the already way to expensive iPhone.

What type of phone did he get. Mine is looking but wanted the new 4G iPhone but none are available now.

I suggested I order one for him but he seems to want to handle it.

It was 110 at the Reserve Navy Base here in Fort Worth yesterday. We just got our first cold frong and it is now 81 and raining. Much better...;-0
  • Kim... Aloha

Are you hearing much from your son.... they must be pretty busy, i get a few txts per day but short. We talked a lot Sunday.

I don't think yours and my son are in the same barrack ;-(
  • sailormann's mom

  • Mary-Ship 11 DIV300 PIR 9/2

    Hello Everyone,
My daughter graduated 9/2 from GL and will be coming into Mississippi for A school on Wednesday 9/8. I look forward to getting to know some of you! It was so hard leaving her yesterday at the GL base. We did have an amazing time together after PIR.
  • Kim... Aloha

Welcome.... my son graduated BC Aug. 13 and headed straight for Meridian.

HE HATES Meridian and is looking forward to graduating A school and moving on. Wishfully hoping for a California Base.

They take taxi's to the Mall a lot. Shop, Bowl and eat. He has been able to wear civilian cloths when not on duty for a couple weeks now so prepare your box. It will go by quick. So she will be texting you to ship her some civi's.
  • Mary-Ship 11 DIV300 PIR 9/2

Hi Kim, I can't say that my daughter likes it there either. She starts the schooling part on Monday so hopefully that will make the days go by faster.
How much longer does your Son have in MS?
  • jhenderson

    hi to all.
my hubby hates a school he wont actually start til the 27th but has been there for 1 week. leaving this friday to go see him again hooyaah he can leave base now so all three kids are coming with me. check in everyday with all of you thanks

Once they class up, it is much better there. In hold, either before school or after graduation, they get very bored and antsy! My son didn't complain about Meridian until after he graduated but was still in hold waiting on his orders (for 3-4 weeks!). Then he got very anxious to move on! It does get better once they are busy.
  • jhenderson

yeah i hope so i just want to hurry up and get mike out of there he wont graduate til nov 24th and then has to wait for moving to a base i really want to be in a house by christmas. that is my goal.
    have a great day.
  • maussie64

My daughter was there during the stormy season. Every time it rained (which was OFTEN) they cancelled liberty.
She finished school on a Wednesday, graduated Thursday morning and was home by Thursday night.
An FYI to all. When they are provided traveling orders and flights, they are from MS to next duty station. We thought S would be traveling through LAX to her duty station, because that's what the recruiter told me. Wrong! Her ticket was from Meridian to Norfolk, then to DG. When I tried to get a ticket to CA the same day, it was $ 1100.00. But, S was able to reroute through the Navy travel service for $30.00. Much better!
  • diannep

Yes, the re-route fee that Massie's daughter paid is the standard military first-time change fee on the ticket issued. My son had to change too...and when he did, he was told that if he changed again, the $150 airline change fee would apply. So make sure that when your sailor changes, they don't change again! They normally are given a airline ticket from Meridian to their first duty station, but of course, most are coming home on leave so that is why he has to be changed.
  • diannep

Sorry, meant maussie....sorry about that, maussie! Typing too fast here! :-)
  • jhenderson

wow i hope it happens that fast for mike i heard some ppl have been waiting for there hard copy of orders for 2 weeks now. glad i live so close.
  • Kim... Aloha

my son (graduates Oct. 13) got his next duty orders on thursday and the hard copy on Friday. Pearl Harbor, HAWAII..... i sure hope they let him re-route home for a few weeks. Since Hawaii is considered overseas duty he gets 21 days libert. but not sure how everything else works.

anyone with experience with overseas duty please advise.

I'm still in shock, can't believe my son is going to Hawaii. I know where I'm going for spring break this year. ;-)
    thanks,
  • maussie64

Kim, I'm kind of jealous. Not gonna lie. 8))
  • jhenderson

thats great that your daughter like it so far. mike only doesnt like it because he is in holding til the 27th and then he starts classes so that just makes is time there longer
  • jhenderson

Hi! My Sailor is now in Meridian Mississippi. He loves it. He made it to Mississippi on 9/15/2010. He is really liking all the classes he has had to take. Says he has cool room mates. Has really not said a bad thing about it. Say's that PT is allot of running. But I think he is getting addicted to running. He has lost 55 lbs since starting basic. He feels great.
  • jhenderson

    that is great welcome
  • jhenderson

just got back last night from meridean miss. it was great im starting to bowl really good lol thats about all they have there besides the liberty hall. well hope everyone is having a great morning. mike starts class this morning been on hold for weeks now 8 weeeks and counting now.
does anyone else have an (AZ) in miss.
  • gjsmomShip6div943

I have a (LS) in Mississippi. We talk everyday. I think I talk to him more now than I did when he was home. Sometimes 2 times. If I am lucky. He is such a great son and brother. He still has a eye on his 14 year old sister and texts her all the time. Only when he is able. He had watch all week-end so did not talk as much. He is meeting lots of nice people! Had his first inspection on Friday and did not get one hit. I am not sure what that means but I think it is good. I think he is able to wear his civillian clothing starting this week-end. I am sure he will be watching football wearing his Ohio State gear Sat. Still waiting on orders, he said maybe in the next few weeks he will get them. He is really hopes he will get sea duty. Austraila is his first pick. Maybe I will get to spend Spring break in Austraila. Well maybe Summer will have to save up for that one!!!! LOL
  • jhenderson
