We are flying into Milwaukee since we have to get a rental anyways 50 miles saved us a couple hundred on each ticket....and sinc we will be arriving at 8:30 we will have plenty of time to waste to get to the Hotel.....yea a lil excited......just being within smelling distance will be Great!
I believe O'Hare is closer. Southwest flies into Midway. My family also lives closer to Midway so that works out for me. I read that it's only 30 miles from O'Hare to the RTC.
Im flying southwest to MIlwauke. cheapest i could find.. $150 as well. i could of flown stand by under my mother in law (she works for american airlines) or stand by under my uncle (he works for southwest) but i figured i better BUY a ticket so i KNOW for sure ill be on a flight to see my hubs! :)
Welcome home Dana! You were missed. I'm so glad you had letters when you came home! Now you need a phone call! I'm with you, I hope the 31 days go really fast! Hugs to you!
I have to brag... My husband is pretty darn amazing... Today, our anniversary... at my office... I received flowers and a Happy Anniversary note from him! I did some research before posting this because I knew that some of you may have questions on how he was able to do this... So... I called the florist's number on the bottom of the note and they said he placed the order over a month ago! :-) I can't stop smiling and crying!!! After 8 years of marriage, 10 years all together... he still amazes me!
Abby, WOW …“He placed the over a month ago”, I got the Goosebumps reading your note … He surely is a keeper…. And it definitely makes your anniversary Super Special"
Thanks Ladies! I'm feeling pretty great now... still crying but with a smile! He is a wonderful man... but I'm guilty of taking him for granted at times when he was here! Absence does make the heart grow fonder!
Missy that is a great way to put it... only 4 more Monday's left!!!
Oh... Happy Birthday, Missy! It's tough to keep up on here. My birthday was the 9th... hugs fellow Virgo!
Only 4 more Mondays left... LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way that sounds!!!!
I'm not sure what stacking racks means... what was the context?
A deck log is a book of events or things that happen on the ship and the Officer of the Watch makes notes in it. It's a VERY important job and not to be taken lightly as it can be used in a court of law.
Some things noted are:
Inspections
Injuries
Official visits
Arrivals and departures of the commanding officer
Drills held
Observance of sunrise and sunset
I ask because my son mentioned in his letter to his girlfriend that he dislikes deck log and stacking racks and he said it has been made known to him that he is not very good at ironing. I wonder if his job is deck log....would they give that job to someone.
New Navy Mom... I think that when they stand watch their responsibility is to complete the deck log. My son said he's had to stand watch 3 times so far. I don't think it's something they do all the time as a regular job... but I could be wrong.
Stacking racks, huh? I'll ask my son... I have a questionnaire going so I'll add that to it. :)
I missed you all, too. I felt so far away from everything... and was so happy to come home. I like home. It just feels good to be here. :)
Oh.. LOL... about ironing. I asked my son if he had figured it our yet and he replied, "sorta... with the help of like 5 other guys!" :) So he's not much of an ironing pro yet either. They'll get there! :)
Can you imagine being a fly on the wall of the guys barracks? It must be a HOOT! LOL... just gotta smile! ;)
suwi68 - They will get it together! They always do!!! Besides... at first... the RDC's are REALLY hard on them and that motivates them to work together as a team. If they were super nice... the recruits would slack off because they thought they could get away with it. We want a strong and dedicated US Navy fleet and the RDC's are trained to pull out the very best in our kids!
also suwi68... even if they were working together perfectly - it wouldn't be good enough! RDC's are not going to go soft on them for any reason. They would just expect more. Ya know why? Because sometimes in the real Navy fleet... Sailors are expected to perform duties under strenuous situations and they need to be prepared how to handle it. It's not always something we learn as civilians so someone has to teach them that they can do it and they can do the job well... even under stress! Be proud! He's learning valuable life lessons!!! :)
hi ladies !
has everyone in ship 12 div. 347 received their form letter yet? because we are still patiently waiting and I'm not sure if we should be in a panic mode loll
Hi williamstogo.... My son is also in S12/D342... I did receive also a call a letter on Friday, yeah, just one letter... I guess because he also has to write to his girlfriend.. :-).... He said their mail has been delayed because they didn't have a dedicated mail person in their group.
Missy, if it makes you feel any better....Ship 2 Division 948 hasn't made any calls home yet either. At least none that I am aware of. We are all waiting for that "first call". Try not to worry.
Missy, don't lose your confidence... say your prayers and try to be patient...I know it is hard, but when we pray, things seems easier to handle. You will see how you will hear from your hubby son....
Yeah, im trying i just worry alot. I just hate not knowing whats been going on with him and how things are going... (since letters are a week behide too)
Hi williamstogo, I also received a phone call from my son and also three letters! It was so great to hear his voice and be able to talk to him for 20 minutes. I still miss him so much!
So I have been going thru some things in my house..ya know throwing crap out ..making donation boxes with clothes..etc....and while in the attic I came across a box of "baby shower decorations" and in it was the perfect NAVY BLUE pillar candle from my baby shower when I was pregnant with Desiree....so I plucked it right out and stuck a Navy emblem on it and that will be my Battlestation candle!!!
Hi everyone....I just went to Youtube and watched a couple of the Navy graduation videos. I started crying soooo hard that I started choking!! NO JOKE!! I couldn't catch my breath!!! I was gasping and crying at the same time. I was home alone LOL Lord have mercy....talk about something touching! I recommend everyone watching this before graduation so you don't react like I did the first time you see it. : ) I am even more proud than before...(if that is even possible) GO NAVY!!!!
Hello All!!!
Just wanted to drop in and say hello and answer any questions anyone may have! My son's PIR was 8/27 and it was AMAZING!! Looks like some of you are already booking hotels and trying to plan. We stayed at the Navy Lodge and loved it. Its only 65.00 a night and 5 mins from base, we even walked it one night from the train station. Yes I said train, there is a train right outside gate 6 that takes you into downtown Chicago. But need to keep in mind that it makes many stops and schedule can change if you ride with your sailor after PIR.
