My son's ship had to leave Pendleton and head out to sea. Soon he will be on his way to Japan.
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Dayciavu  My son's PIR is NEXT Friday!!!!!  3/18    Janis what a great opportunity for him   The reason my son joined was to help people   Im sure he is wishing he was heading to Japan
  • lisa ship 2 div 922

    @ anthony'sproudmom

I also asked my daughter how she got in the 900 div as she does not sing or play...She said   "Mom when you get here they start screening straight away, there is hundreds of us and they start asking Who can play instrument? who can sing? who was in ROTC or Drill in school?

When that was done they still needed alot more so they next group is Who can swim and scored higher than a 70 on your asvab? She says thats when i stood up mom....

    Awesome...

  • Josie, Jordan's proud mom

HI, My son is Division 924/ ship 2/PIR 4/29.  I am so proud of him and cannot wait to hug him in Illinois.  He plays guitar and drums & scored high on ASVAP - not sure which skill he used to qualify but feel completely overwhelmed with JOY that he is exercising his talents.

If there are anyone else with a loved one in the same division/ship/PIR, please let me know.  any and all information i can get is greatly appreciated.!!

  • linda_d (Ship 2 Div 923)

Angie, you mention a RTC FB page for your son's division.  What is this FB site?  My son is Ship 2 Div 923 and PIR date is 4/22.  He said he would be in choir for other graduation besides his own so I would like to look for him on these sites if possible but do not know where to go.  How nice of you to get ths glimpse.  Linda
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Thanks Linda   anyone on here who has a son in div 919?  My son's PIR is FRIDAY!!!!!  and I'll try to take some pictures of 919 recruits  (or I'll ask my husband to actually....I dont want to get tears on the camera lense!)

  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

Just wanted to say what a great job ALL the 917 division did last Friday.  Very moving.
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

Angie, I have a daughter in 919 and she is carrying the North Carolina State Flag and if you get a/some shots of her, I would truly appreciate it
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

Sherri, if it helps, the states are recognized in the order they entered the union!  Did she carry the flag last weekend for 3/11 graduation?
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

Yes she did and I looked at the picts on the RTC facebook site, but couldn't tell which was the NC flag or her
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

    Sherri  Im on it!
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

Oh Angie that would be awesome, thank you
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

Sherri, I looked and we don't have one that I see;  I'll keep looking!  I am sure I saw her, because we commented over and over on the NC flag!
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

Thank you LWEatonNC - I take it your from NC or was she just doing a fabulous job of carrying the flag? :)

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Sherri   we went last nite on google to figure out just what the NC flag looks like and my husband now knows!  and btw  DIV 918 passed battlestations Monday nite!!  and my son is now officially a United States Sailor!   Leaving right after work today to drive half way to GL tonite
  • Navy Mom

Yay for you Angie(ship 2 div 918).  How exciting!  29 more days for my SR.  I can hardly wait.  Have a safe trip.
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

Sherri, she will be the 12th one introducted, as they are recognized in the order the states entered the union! She will have a very prominent place on the drill deck (see, I am learning Navy lingo!).  When you arrive at the graduation, when you go in, if you are looking at the drill deck (with the bleachers behind you), she will be standing to your LEFT, facing the bleachers!

Like this: (only this was taken from the FAR left, not the middle of the drill deck!)  See NC??

And, yep, I'm from NC so we were looking for our flag!

  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

    Um, introduced!
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

Angie congrats on your sailor. How exciting for you to be going to PIR. One more week for me. Still don't know when her battlestations are.

LWEatonNC - thanks for the info on when she will be coming in and all. That will be a great help looking for her. I googled the NC flag so I would know which one she will be carrying. Oh I can't wait to see her.

  • Jaimers

    Congrats Angie...Have a wonderful Trip !!!
  • lauren

My boyfriend has been gone for three weeks and is in Ship 02 Div 924... As far as I know, nobody with loved ones in this division has received letters (besides the form letter). Other divisions with the same PIR date (4/29) have sent letters home already. I know that those in the 900 division have more responsibilities and less time to write letters, but when would it be reasonable to anticipate receiving a letter? When did you receive your first letter and how often have you received letters from your SR in a 900 division?
  • lauren

Thank you, Kathy! I am so hopeful to receive a letter from him soon! :)
  • Jaimers

@ Lauren - my Dau left 2/16 received her letters (received 5 at once) at about 3weeks received that 3 week call a few days later and just received the second letters yesterday. Hang in there....you will get them....and yes they do practice a lot and dont forget study time, ironing, shinning boots etc...lol I know its hard to wait ..im there too...believe me when you get them ... its just wonderful !!!!!!!

Thank you Jaime! This is so encouraging!
  • ProudmominNC ship 02 Div 921

Does anyone know what divisions performed at today's PIR?  My son wrote and said he was a side boy and told me where he's standing, but because of the recruit's hand, I can't tell if it's him or not!!!  FRUSTRATING!
  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

I would think it was 918, 919 and 920 - but not positive, just based on they get to perform in 3 graduations, 2 before theirs and then theirs
  • NebraskaMom

Our son is in the 920 Division with PIR 4/8.  On Facebook under Recruit Training Command there are pictures of the graduation today.  Got a glimpse of our son in the choir.  Maybe some of you will see your children as well.

  • Sherri (mom of Kirsten)

I got to see my daughter in one of the photos, she is a flag carrier and there is one where she is in the bottom right hand corner, so nice to see her
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

    aww thats so cool!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

What an amazing time I had at my son's PIR yesterday!!   and ladies the 900 divisions are fabulous   I'll post photos soon for you   I talked with a few SR's who are in 919 and 920  all looking so fabulous and proud!!
  • ProudmominNC ship 02 Div 921

    Angie,

Were the 919 and 920 the two performing yesterday?  My son is in training and is to be a side boy.  He is div 921.  I looked at the pics posted on the RTC facebook site, but didn't see him.  I'm thinking he might begin performing next week.

    Thanks,

    Rhonda

  • ProudmominNC ship 02 Div 921

I just scrolled down and caught Sherri's comment about the number of performances.  Thanks!

To all of you who've found your kids in pics, I know the feeling is priceless!!!

    Rhonda

  • Jaimers

  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

You know what?  My sailor is already in Pensacola and I talked to him on the phone today -- and I miss the LETTERS!  The last two weeks, we got one almost every single day;  and we even got two after we got home.

We can call, yes, and we can email, yes, but I loved reading the letters!

  • goliathmacdog

How many PIR's do they perform in before their own? My son is on ship 2 div 924 and I have no clue yet what he is doing, but VERY curious.
  • linda_d (Ship 2 Div 923)

Ladies - I was just wondering from the moms who have already been to PIR, where is the best seat for those of us who have SR in choir?  Also what time do you suggest we head out from our Hampton Inn hotel which they say is only 10 min away in Libertyville?  I was planning to leave at 7 but wonder if it should be earlier.  I think there will be 11 divisions.  If I have 2 - 3 extra people that want to see graduation, where do they go to see if they can get in after all the ticket holders get in?
  • Jaimers

Hello Ladies ------   @ Kathy ....thank you....awesome ...and yes when it is my turn to experience PIR (4/15) I will most definitely be taking lots of pics of the 900 Div for the other moms ......=)   I love that ...pay it forward..!!

    jaime

  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

Something else about finding a good place to see the performances;  get a seat where you can see OVER the handrail if you have to look to your left or your right.
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

linda d, 7 is way too late;  we got inside about quarter to 7 and I was shocked to see the place almost half full!  From Libertyville, you need to leave at 6 (sorry!!!).
  • LWEatonNC (AWF Oceana)

And take bottled water and snacks!
  • TxLadyJane(ET Nuke Mom)

we got there about 7:15 am and most of the bottom was full, we had to go up into the Balcony, probably better as my husband is 6'6" tall and we sat on the front row, but we had to deal with the railing, so it was a trade off.  I was depresed as I wanted to sit down on the bottom level.
  • ColoradoConnie

Hi There, I am looking for info on ship 2 Div 927. I was told of the honor of being chosen for a 900 div and am tying to learn what the 927 is and why our son was chosen I know he had high scores on his ASVAB's he also has musical knowledge and experience. I just cant wait 3 weeks to get a letter from him telling us about it! He is in Pweek of BC. He arrived last T 3-22.
  • Navy Mom

ColoradoConnie- go up above to discussion forum and choose 900 Division meaning/info
  • ColoradoConnie

Thanks that helped, I know our son played a great trombone in Pep,Marching and Jazz band. He has also DJ'd to earn extra $$. I didnt realize that he would be doing anything like this in the Navy though.
  • Jaimers

Hello Ladies .....Any Div 922 hear anything at all from their SR's yet
  • linda_d (Ship 2 Div 923)

Connie, my son arrived on 2/23 and he said the day they arrived they were in line and asked if they had any band, singing or drill experience to step in a different line.  Then they try out is what I understand.  You will have to wait till your first letter to find out what he will be doing.

  • Jaimers

Hello Ladies ....questions for you guys: Are the 900 Division families seated in the center area.???

  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

You can sit wherever you want to! My son was a rail guard up in the balcony for his grad so I ran up there (we got there early b/c he gave me a heads up) and we were able to talk quietly for about 40 min before the ceremony started. Other moms from our div were doing the same with their sailors who were guards. I was also able to talk to some of his shipmates who were posted at various places (near restrooms, doors etc.) as well as guys on drumline who were his friends because they are kind of waiting in the stairwells but allowed to talk to guests. If your sailor is a "flag" you will see them but not to talk to until afterwards. The graduating 900 div does line up in front of the main stage where the brass & special guests sit for about 5 min before the ceremony so parents can take pics up close, which is awesome! My son & other guards were called down from the balcony for the pic and he gave me a quick "side hug" as he went by. I also offered to take a pic of a female guard from a 900 div that would grad 2 weeks later, and she was nervous but agreed, and whispered her mom's email to me so I could send it. The mom lived in a different state and hadn't seen her daughter for months, and really appreciated it. One fun thing: my nephew (24 years old) is a police officer and drove 15 hours with my sister to be there for my son's grad. My nephew wore his police uniform at my son's request, and when we were looking for seats at grad the chief asked my sister if we wanted to sit on the main stage because they needed people behind the admirals etc. She said, "Sure!" and he told us to sit with my uniformed nephew in the middle and the rest of us flanking him, and to follow the lead of the officer in front of us re: when to stand etc. My son was watching this procession from the balcony and about having a heart attack, not knowing the chief had initiated the whole thing. Needless to say, we had VERY good seats, and it was a real treat for my sister who loves hoopla! I was happy to just look up at the balcony every now & then & see my handsome sailor at parade rest (or whatever they call it!) with a gold scarf at his neck representing Division 913!
