  • Scarlet ship 02/ DIV 924

    Hello all..

I am brand new to all this, and was looking to see if anyone on here has loved ones in the same division as my fiance. Dwayne is on the USS Reuben James, ship 02 div 924. One of the letters he wrote to me said he was in the honor gaurd and that I may could find pictures of him performing at the graduations before his.. does anyone know anything about that? Or how i may could find a photo with a glimpse of him in it?

We have 3 babies and they would LOVE to see their daddy..
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

I found out that my husband is just a back up, he said thank god because he didn't want to perform.  LOL
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

He told me he might be the greeter or something?  He said I shouldn't sit near wherever he's posted b/c if we do he'll have a hard time keeping his military bearing hehe, maybe I'll go sit next to him just to mess with him.  My son screaming DADADADADADADA
  • Josie, Jordan's proud mom

Hi Dayciavu -- i haven't heard from my son since last weeks phone call.  so you were able to find out where he's standing?/ awesome!!  the anticipation is knawing at me!!

    hope alls well!!

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

My son PIR'd 3/18 Div 918   I would highly recommend arriving asap  - before 7 am   We were able to get glimpses on our son as he was getting ready for the ceremony  We asked him right after battlestations what time they were going to march into the hall and where we could stand to see his division march.  We were there by the parking garage at 6:45 and saw his division march past us  Well worth getting up so very early!
  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

Back ups????  Come on ladies, if your guy is posted by himself somewhere it means the RDC's think he can be trusted to do what's expected. "In a back room by the awards" probably means he'll get to be with the recruits who received honors and their families and the official guests. If he's a greeter he'll be posted by a door, again trusted to conduct himself with military bearing. Just guessing, but your recruits are probably older than the typical 18-20 yr old? My son is 25 and was a rail guard, body snatcher and retrieve-stuff-people-dropped-from-the-bleachers for the three graduations he worked, including his own. Be proud of your recruit!  900 Divisions work really hard to get ready, and you will be so proud of the whole division, regardless of their job. I second Angie's suggestion to get there early, b/c you'll practically have the place to yourself, and more time to take it all in! Be prepared to be down on the main floor before it all begins b/c they'll call the graduating 900 div. to line up in front of the main stage for a full 5 min. so you can get pics closeup of the whole division. An extra perk!

I am enjoying the pictures that are posted of the PIR 's I cant wait to scan one and find our son in one! I realize that our PIR is a ways off (5/20) and wont actually be able to see him "in action" until then. Does anyone have an Idea as to when the new div. actually start working the activities? He is in the 927 and I am sure this early that they are still drilling and training, practicing etc. Just can't wait to see him in any way possible!
  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

usually they work the two before their own. If you make friends with someone from the PIR's before yours, you can always ask them to take a pic of your son, IF he knows where he'll be job-wise. You can also privately email of pic of him so they know who they're looking for. At my son's grad there were about 20 recruits sitting together at the end of the hall at the top rows. I'm assuming they were 900 division people who weren't "working" the ceremony. My son was attached to Div 913's flags unit, but since they are picked by height and he was thrid tallest in his div, he was a guard etc.
  • ColoradoConnie

TY WhiteClay. We are still waiting to get our first mail so not sure why he was selected but know it could have been for several reasons. That is a good Idea to see if some could watch for him and maybe take some pics for us! Can you answer a couple of ?? for me? I have noticed that they wear the scarves, but what do they cords or braid represent. I have seen some 900 SR's wearing at least 1 and sometimes 2 of these. Oh I cant wait to hear something , anything personal! I am hoping the same thing for his girlfriend too...she is really missing him. I have recommended the GF group to her and see that she has joined.
  • MariaM

Amen WhiteClay!! You aand I and our sailors were there!!!!!!!!!!!!.

The 900 Division do everything like everybody also plus all the Peforming duties!!!!!!!! This is a unique Diision and so proud of everyone of them!!!!!!

    MariaM- Ship 2 Div 913

  • WhiteClay Ship 2 Div 913

    Hey Maria...miss you!

@Colorado - I think the braids are just part of the performing uniform, kind of borrowed, because after grad my son had to give his scarf & braid back. Anybody know? when did your son leave? my son wrote great letters, very funny with random details of life at bc. He's at A school now & the texts are ok, but not the same.

  • ColoradoConnie

@whiteclay, Our son left Mar 22. He is still quite a "newbie" At this point we have not gotten any mail other than the form letter. From what I have learned he may have been selected for a number of reasons. His ASVAB scores were high, he has band, jazz band and marching background but he hasn't kept up with it. He is 30 yrs old so it has been a long time for him. He played the trombone and was one of the best in Colorado back then, but I am sure that he has lost his "Lip" after this many years!! LOL Thanks for answering my ??
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

I found out in a recent letter from my husband that he has been moved up from a back up, to holding the Rhode Island flag.  I am very proud of him!  Its a big step for him since he's not one to take the spotlight usually.  So if anyone is going to be at PIR in the coming weeks, look for my hubby! =D
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

    =D  =D
  • Josie, Jordan's proud mom

hi all!! received my 2nd call from my son (ship 2/div 924) last night.   he's thrilled about graduation - said his div is finally "getting it together" - spirits high and his humor is still in tact so i know he is spirtually and emotionally well!! they took their pictures yesterday - he said it goes in a sort of graduation yearbook. he sounded like himself - not stressed, happy. had a buddy next to him and said "hey mom, my friend from Cali says hi!!" Me: "hi Cali!!" Jordan:"my mom says hi!" Now, see, that's my guy. a normal conversation with a bit of goofiness. to know he is well makes this bearable.  and i know, i know it's so good, so wonderful and i am so proud - relieved - lucky even - that my son made & owns such a noble life changing, career building decision. but i miss him. and where ever he may be, i need to know he is happy and safe. it's what moms do.

anyway, they got their assignments on the 29th -  because he is in the 900 division, he will stay in great lakes for 4 weeks so as to participate in graduations as his division is considered to be staff. (he graduates 4/29), 20 days!! can't wait to hold him and cheer him on!! God, how i love him!! I hopy everyone else is well and that they received their calls.  2/924 please keep me posted!! there is a meet and greet on the 28th but i fly in at 9 and will miss it.  will only have time to drive to hotel sleep and attend graduation the next morning. but certainly hope we will at least see each other.  jordan said he may be a greeter or marching w/ rifles.  he's not sure yet.  if he's a greeter, he will be greeting the families at the door! and i will have to be super cool and calm and not throw my arms around him and cry!! don't know if i can!! maybe he should march!!

    keep in touch all!!

  • ColoradoConnie

How early do he SR's participate in the PIR's? I could swear I found a picture of our son performing already! They are so great to post the PIR pics almost immediately. It was in pic #2 of the 58 they had up! This group was not wearing the Scarves and braids. Colud it be b/c they are still new? He is Div. 927. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but I so want it to be our B!!!
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

They perform in 3 total.  My husband's PIR is may 6, and his first performance will be April 22 =)
  • ColoradoConnie

Thanks! Then it was not our kiddo....:( I guess I just wanted it to be him! LOl
  • linda_d (Ship 2 Div 923)

It is not a guarnatee that they will perform in 3.  Our division 923 was first told the same thing and yet we do not think they got to perform last Friday and only will get to this Friday and then their own on 4/22.  They said they were the first group to do 4 songs so maybe they still needed more practice.   I am so excited to see him and hear him sing.  Good luck to you all.
  • ColoradoConnie

Hi gang! I can't believe that it has been 3 wks ago today that our son left Denver... Has anyone had any news from div. 927 yet? Hoping they are all great and would love to heaar and share stories! Our SR's PIR is 5/20. My husband and I have had no news yet but realize they must have so little spare time. His gf is having the toughest time. I just keep reinforcing the fact that "no news is good news!"

Does anyone know the answer to this question.... Do the newer div. join the div's. ahead of them for practices, and performances??  Or are they separate from each other?

  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Colorado   The newer division do join the div before them for practices and performances   Keep an eye out on the RTC facebook page  I was able to see my son 4 times in photos!  Congratulations on everyone's PIR  what an exciting time!
  • ColoradoConnie

Thanks so much gals! In last weeks PIR photos I found a picture that I thought I saw my son in, he was playing the trombone. But this group did not have thier Gold scarves and braids... I was wondering if they were possibly newer SR's playing or practicing with the other divisions. I still think it could have been him, but my eyes are older and it was difficult to see more than his profile. My hubby and his gf say they don't think it was him. Hubs said " You only think it's him because you want it to be him!" LOL! Could be wishful thinking on my part...I am sure he is too new to be in the PIR's yet!
  • Angie (Dan's Mom)

Yes I remember that Colorado   I had several false Dan sightings LOL   but then he told me he was a sideboy   There are only a few of them in the ceremony so I could easily pick him out
  • ColoradoConnie

Wow here we are it is PIR day at GL again!! Congratulations to all of our newest Sailors and their families. Has anyone had any news yet from the 927? I have seen that some are starting to get mail!! I sure would love to hear from anyone getting mail!! I am so thrilled for everyone, I am sure that our day will come, but I also know that our SR's dont have much spare time!! Please share any news! Go div. 927!!
  • navyvet

Hey Colorado nothing here either when I get something I will let you know. I told my SR I met you and gave him a little info about your son, can't wait to either see pictures or hear something
  • ColoradoConnie

You are so sweet vet!! I cant wait to see if they know each other, too!  Can you believe how fast the time is flying by? Well maybe it is do so just for me, being older I can,t handle how fast it flies... Thanks again Doll! Hugs to you and your boy!!
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

I can't wait for this Friday, hopefully I'll get to see my hubby in the photos.  Its his divisions first PIR.
  • NavyHubby81(Ship 02 Div 929)

If there are any in here that would like to friend me, my wife is in 929. I would really like to know some others who have loved ones in this division.
  • LMC -mom of 2 Sailors!

Navy Hubby did you see if there is a 929 division group started? And welcome. Congrats on your wife and her choice.
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

I just found out my son is on ship 2 , div 930...and he has no musical experience (or desire as far as I know). Any ideas or comments as to why he is in this division?
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

sometimes its high ASVAB scores, its because they are older then other recruits, or sometimes its just because they need to fill the division up.  My husband has NO idea why he is in 925.   I mean he is older, but he is scared to death of performing.

On a side note, today is his first PIR!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

I cant wait to hear from my son and ask how he ended up in  Div 930. He does not care for performing either.....interesting. Is receiving mail pretty consistent? I cant wait to get a letter! 1 week down 7 more to go!

So aveoamare, you are saying he could perform at more PIRs then his own?

  • LMC -mom of 2 Sailors!

Char- Yes tehy preform often at 2 before theirs and parades soemtimes. My son did a Memorial day parade last year. He was in Div 930 last year.

Mail Yes they get it regularly. often we found our Mail arrival day to be Weds. (I'm in Ohio).

As for his talent Maybe he's gonna hold a flag or choir. Congrats! and Here's hoping for the mail and call. (00 divisions are busier then others in teh same PIR date so often times not as man calls home but still they do get to call.

  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

I saw my husband in one of the pictures from this past friday's PIR.  It was so nice!
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

how exciting!! where do you view the pictures??

  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

its the recruit training command facebook page.
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

i looked on the FB page for the RTC and i dont see anything to view pictures.....sorry i'm such a pain. I really am a little technology challenged :/
  • Virginia (Ship 2 - Div. 928)

I attached a picture to show where to click... You can click on "photos" on the list of links to the left, or you can click on the pictures at the top.  Be sure that when you start looking at pictures, you look at the dates they were posted.

    Hope that helps you!

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

got it! thank you.....for some reason it was coming up with a more generic page.....just info on RTC no buttons on the side to click on pics. Thank you sooo much I will look for photos everyday now of my son!! miss him so bad!
  • Virginia (Ship 2 - Div. 928)

Happy Easter everyone!  And thank you for all your help and support so far.  I've only been on this site for a few days now, and I am so grateful for all of you!  Thank you!
  • Sunnyb

Anyone out there have an SR on Ship 2 Div 931..? I'm new, my son is just a little over a week into bootcamp
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

Welcome Sunnyb....my son is in Div 930. There is an awesome page on Facebook, US Navy Recruit Training Command....the RTC will actually answer your questions directly. My son has been gone 2 weeks and 2 days. Its tough but they are in good hands.Send him lots of letters. I just received my first letter yesterday. Hang in there!
  • Sunnyb

Well.. I just read that div. 900 are those having music or drill experience. Right?  haha.. I"m laughing, my son thought he left his drum line marching band days behind him. I can't WAIT to see what he will be doing at PIR.
  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

My son does not play an instrument and cant sing to save his life......they will perform at the two PIRs prior to their own and then in their own.....I'm just hanging onto the fact that they will hopefully be easy for us to find in the big group of sailors!
  • Sunnyb

Hi Charlotte.. hmm?? well then I wonder how they got in this group then? I doubt my son raised his hands or volunteered any past band experience, unless it looked like a fun time. I can't wait, I loved loved his marching band days. Nothing better than a parade with a great drum line.! course who knows, maybe he will be singing!   ~thinkin about it just makes me smile~

  • MariaM

Ladies, this Division is very Special!!! My sailor graduation was on Feb 2011. Right now he is part of the Presidential Ceremonial Guard at DC....with more saylors from the 900 Division.... They do all do their duties like the rest. but also add the Performing Division Duties. At Graduation  they are amazing, you see them  everywhere...they are Unique. Look for the yellow!!!!!!!!!!!

As NavyMoms, we were wearing a Pink Scarf so we can id all of us, "The Sisters of the Division 913"...it was so much fun, so emotional and we were so Proud of them!!!.

As today, we still maintain the relationships as well as  our Sailors with their shipmates....

So happy for all of you....this is an Amazing Journey!!!

    MariaM

  • Charlotte(ship02Div930)

Thank you all for the comments. I understand the 900 division is special and my son seems fine with being in it. He says 'we are the best of the best'.....he's just not sure what "performing" means. Lol....he will soon learn. Anything that helps the time go faster for him sounds good to me. Cant wait til June 10th!!
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

It has been SO exciting seeing my husband at other people's PIR's before him. I've made friends with ladies who text me pictures of him while they are there.  So far, I have about 5 pictures of him!

If anyone has a son or daughter or husband or whatever performing this Friday while I'm there, I'll be happy to take a picture of your SR for you if you tell me who they are =)  (like I knew my hubby carries the Rhode Island flag)

  • Sunnyb

Hi Aveoamare..  thank you for the offer. It has only been 11 days for my son. And of course no contact yet. But after reading about this group on here, it looks like they have added responsibity? Just wondering how that is for them? Does he enjoy it?
