This group is for the wonderful family members and friends of the sailors who graduated from boot camp on Dec. 17 & Dec. 22, 2010. We have been through so much together and we welcome all who would like to follow the paths of our sailors.

We're doing great. Can't believe Madeleine is 5wks already. She's sooo long and getting heavy (10lbs). I gotta bulk up. :P
What's with all this snow and low temps. Hopefully the weather clears up so everyone can enjoy spring.

Hi Nanny2, Prayers being sent. Hello Priscilla and little angel.  Congrats on Sailors getting orders.

We're waiting to see if my S gets to go six years.  I guess he had to apply!  If he does he will stay where he is for about 18 months.

    Sending hugs to all.

  • nanny2

Priscilla, aww   that's great.  You better start  weight lifting soon.LOL  They grow so fast.  Well winter is back here, calling for a chance of snow flurries. KY weather is so fickle.

Phoebe,  Thank  you.  Praying  for S, I hope it works out.  That would be great if he stayed in SD.    Hope everyone is warm, healthy & happy.

My son got his written orders finally after being in limbo for a couple weeks. He leaves for Norfolk on Tuesday, then on to the Ponce once it's safe enough for him to get there. Certainly nervous over this juncture for him. Being deployed to Lybia is not what we had in mind I don't think. Prayers are greatly appreciated. Hope you and your sailors are all doing great! Take care and God Bless.
  • ISH-MOM

    Jacque,

Praying for you and your son.  It is difficult time right now for sure!  He will be safe in his journey.  It is scarry indeed.

  • ISH-MOM

Hey Nanny,  I am doing ok.  my daughter has been and still is sick.  Flu and cold at the same time.  The weather here in MN isnt helping at all.  I dont think that Spring is ever coming!  My S called Monday and passed another of his test! WOOT WOOT!  Third times a charm I gues! LOL

Hope everyone is having a good week.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Hello my wonderful friends.  I have been so busy with our move, that I haven't had a minute to spare.  I am praying for all of our sailors every day.  They are all moving in so many different directions now.  It is so nice that we are still able to keep up to date on them and our own lives.  I miss you all, but hope to be back on here regularly in a week or so.  Our house is sold, as of Tuesday, and we will be living temporarily in an apartment in Maryland, after May.  I am staying in NM for the next 6 weeks to spend time with my son, who is staying here for school and my daughter, who graduates in May from college.

I just booked the Navy Lodge in Pensacola for my Easter trip to see my sailor. I can't wait to get my arms around my baby boy in a big bear hug.  Just checking in and letting everyone know that I'm doing well.  I will be back in touch very soon.

  • Rose7..Norfolk

Betsy....I'm glad that everything is going in the right direction.  We miss you but know that you are busy.  Prayers for you and family.  Have a safe trip!

Awww, thank you so much, ladies.  :)
  • Nancy

Ok Everyone… attended training in Chicago last week, returned home late yesterday as my co-worker and I wanted to have a day to explore Chicago… We went to the Navy Pier (never made it in Dec.) AND I just had to tell you all about all the new sailors I saw yesterday.

My friend who was with me didn't get it at all. She saw me congratulate one group of boys, but never noticed the other new sailors walking around. I KNEW you all would get it!!! It took me back in time to see these guys, and one girl.

I spoke to IB and told him about the "baby" sailors, and he corrected me…said they, (and he), are CHILD sailors. hmmmmm didn't know that one. Anyway, just wanted to share with people I knew would "get it!!"

    Have a great week!!

    Nancy

  • Rose7..Norfolk

Nancy....I bet that was a awesome experience and your memory went back to Dec.
  • nanny2

Betsy, Hope you had time to enjoy your birthday! Glad everything is working out for you. Happy Happy Birthday!

Nancy,  I bet that was an awesome experience.

I hope everyone had a great wknd.

  • Sharon

Greetings y'all.  I've been so busy and well, life has a way of getting away from you!  My son graduates A School on Friday.  When I spoke to him this past Friday, he still didn't know what he'd be doing in C School!  He said if he had more time to dwell on it, he'd be completely batsh*t, but he's too busy to think about it.  I'm just so proud of him. :)
  • ISH-MOM

Sharon-  That is great!  Congrats to your sailor. He will figure it out soon enough.  My S is doing some quizzes and test this week to pass BESS?  not exactly sure what this is...Anyone?

  • ctownnavymom_Groton_SECF

Hi ISH-MOM...BESS is Basic Enlisted Sub School. My son just graduated from that a couple of weeks ago. They have to pass tests, inspections, and hands on trainings. After graduation they go on to specific schools for training in their field and some go straight to the fleet. My son is still in Groton and is now in ATT school. You should check out our Groton Sub school group.

    Groton Penny

  • Nancy

Hi ISH…  BESS is Basic Enlisted Submarine School. They pass that and then they go on to ATT which I originally thought was Advanced Technical Training, but was informed by my IB that it is actually APPRENTICE!! AH HA!!! Then…they go on to TCNO (read techno) which stands for Technical Computer Network Operator. I wish I had known all this…but I did have to make a phone call. LOL

I do know that somehow IB is moving more quickly through the ATT class as he keeps telling me that he is "days ahead." I am still not sure what the advantage is of being ahead yet.

Hope this all helps!! Are you hanging out in the Groton site?? Lots of people with answers there!! :-)

  • ctownnavymom_Groton_SECF

Nancy!!! Hahaha! Great "moms" think alike!hahaha...I think we must have posted at the same time! :)
  • Lori_KingsBay_USSRI_Radio

Too funny Nancy and Penny - ISH has her answer though!  Nancy - A told me if they fast pace through ATT they can earn 3 days leave.  Maybe that is IB's goal!  Good for him.  A and N just started last night so I'm anxious to hear how they like the 6-midnight class!

Sounds like everyone is doing well - good for your Sailor Sharon - Congratulations!  Drew and I are counting down until 4/20 - it will be here before we know it.  Can't wait to see our Sailor and the Groton area!

  • Nancy

OK Penny!! That is just too funny!! So it now makes sense to me that he is getting the extra time…I was wondering if it was tied to leave. Otherwise I was thinking that he would have to hang around waiting to "class up" all over again. But LEAVE…THAT makes sense!!

I wanna go to Europe..although if you have to chaperone groups of teenagers… ugh!! Do you tape the doors at night so you can at least sleep. My step-daughter takes middle schoolers to Washington DC and that is what she does…if they want something they have to slip a note under the door!!

Lori-happy that you are getting to go to Groton!! Sounds fun!! Oh Yeah…IB has the "day" class, so he is earlier in the day, but when I called him (cuz I can never remember what the A stands for) he sounded pooped…had watch from 2-4 AM… kicked his butt… LOL

    Off to bed!! :-)

  • ISH-MOM

Penny & Nancy - thanks for the info.  The really makes sense. My S has always been very hands on with everything since he was a kid. Even showed up my husband with things LOL.  This must be a very hard unit from what S has told me. There were 10 that started out and including him, there are 2 left?  Is this normal?

    cara

  • nanny2

Hi  everyone,   Penny & Nancy  bet you guys couldn't do that again if you tried. LOL       Nancy  when I was a chaperone on my kids school  we taped the door shut at night. We always had a couple of kids that just didn't care & would think they could get away with it.  Not much sleep on those trips but they were fun.

I'm hoping someone could help me find info. D is in the reserves, he was told he would have his job when he finished boot camp & A school. Now he is back & he was told they don't have to give temp. employees (he has worked there 4 yrs) their jobs back.  The kicker is his boss is the one who talked him into going into the Reserves so he could finish college.  I'm not sure where to look  to get info.   Thanks so much.

  • ISH-MOM

Nanny, did your son get it writing about getting his job back?  I would talk to human resources or you Human rights org for your state.  They should be able to let you know.  maybe the attny general?

  • Terry_T_Tuckersmom

Hello ladies been a while since I've been on but I have been pretty busy.Going to Myrtle beach in 9 days and get to see my A one or two days but he graduates from A school the 22nd and will be home for 10 days so that should be fun as he will be home for Easter.Well hope everyone has a great day!!
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

I can't read much today, but nanny2, I found this information and thought I'd pass it on to you.

  • nanny2

Thanks  Cara.    Betsy thank you, I passed the info to D.  Your still in my prayers, hope all is well, that goes for everyone.
  • jacquec1253

I sure miss talking to everyone. Is there a particular time when you come on to chat? The other N4M group related to Js ship is not very supportive, and I only go there to see updates if they know when the ship is coming in or it's whereabouts. J is doing ok, not looking well though, he has big  black circles under his eyes and looks exhausted. He says he's sleeping fine, and eating and exercising but his appearance worries me. I wish he wasn't 30 hours away so I could go check on him. Apparently he won't be able to take leave until this summer. I never realized I could miss someone so much :(  I hope you are all doing ok and please keep me updated how you and your sailors are doing, and when you come on to chat. Miss you all!

  • Lori_KingsBay_USSRI_Radio

Hi all - no big news from me and my sailor; he started ATT Monday; its supposed to take about 20 days I believe.  He went to upstate NY for the weekend with a buddy who is from there so very nice to get away!  I sent me pictures of the Hudson River - he was on a foot bridge above it - yikes!  Let than 20 days until I see my sailor!

Jacque - we should schedule a chat!  I hope J is o.k. - I would be worried too if I saw my Sailor looking so tired.  ((Hugs))

Terry - glad you are spending Easter with your Sailor - I am too!

Nanny 2 - hoping you are getting things figured out with your Sailor!

  • Nancy

I don't think many people are getting on to chat anymore. Every time I am here, there is no one else around. Maybe we can all commit to meeting ONCE a week, maybe Sunday evening (pick a time as our "evening'  times vary LOL) and chat.

My son, who is not a nuke, says that it is very demanding and he has made a couple of friends from kids who dropped down from nuke to SECF and they are much happier. Is he open to making a change and how would you feel about it? Just throwing ideas out there...

Send me a msg if you wanna talk and I can pm you my cell number...

    Nancy

  • Lori_KingsBay_USSRI_Radio

Nancy - I was here when you were here!  Sorry you missed me :-(

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

I agree ladies, we need a good chat session again.  I'm available more now, so I hope we can set up a time.  I've missed you all.  ((Hugs)) to you all.

  • Stacey USS George Wash mom

  • Rose7..Norfolk

    Thanks Betsy!!!
  • Nancy

Rose, when is J graduating? IB says her could graduate as soon as next Tuesday. He says he never sees J or T either as they both have night class and he has day.

Betsy good info...thanks I shared it with IB.
  • ctownnavymom_Groton_SECF

Hello everyone...well the security clearance man showed up at my school today...no I wasn't wearing a clown suit, but I don't know why, but when he showed me the badge I got all nervous and started stammering...I'm such a geek! =0 I didn't tell N that!!!!! My cheeks were red for about an hour! lol!

Hoping to see N this weekend. I think he wants to come home and see his brother and me before we leave for Europe.

Lori...those pictures were not too far from my house!!!! I live one minute from the Hudson! :) Maybe A will come home with them this weekend too. Did he have fun?

I know it seems like we are not always on here, but life takes over...and please know that even if I'm not on every night like I used to be....I love knowing that my girls are always here when I need them!

So don't be discouraged...be thankful that we have this site whenever we need it!!!!! :)

The boy got his orders.  His C school classes up on April 18, and after six weeks of that, he'll report to his new duty station in San Diego.

  • phoebe stg2

Hello everyone,  It's always nice to hear what your sailors are doing and love hearing about what is going on with each of you.  I don't always post but I do always keep current reading up on this group.  My S just called and he finished "A" school today and will grad tomorrow.  He was going for top of his class but finished second.  His score was 98.82 and the top was 98.83...  What's not to celebrate??!!  Hope all of you are celebrating your sailor and the wonderful "journey" they are on.  Love to you all!
  • Nancy

Oh WOW Phoebe!! That is so awesome!! you must be proud!! Isn't amazing where all these kids are going?? And so quickly it seems!!
  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Congratulations to your sailor, Phoebe!  That is an awesome score!  Do you know if he has to attend C school, or will he get his orders now?

  • ctownnavymom_Groton_SECF

    Yay Phoebe!!!! :) Awesome!
  • phoebe stg2

Thanks everyone!  Betsy, My S has applied for six years and won't know until three weeks into the next class if he has been approved.  He should class up right away.  If he doesn't get six years he will get orders...  Hope all is well with you and your new "digs".
