MissYu, His last name is Grundmeyer. Also, when I went on the Tricare website, it said that Tricare doesn't cover contacts. We're using Tricare Standard though. I'm not sure if it changes on Prime. We're about to find out though; I need to get glasses and my husband needs to get contacts.
Hello everybody, hope all is doing well! My husband is now done with A School and he's home until Friday than it's off to Norfolk which will be our duty station! Not sure when I will be able to move but looking forward to it!
SailorsWife...You will LOVE Norfolk. I had a sister stationed at the Army base near Norfolk and we went and visited the Naval Base and loved it. Lots to see and do. Make sure you get to Virginia Beach!!
My son is in his second week of class and loves it. Finds it VERY hard, but challenging. He has 20 CTN rates in his class and there are a total of 100 now divided up in classes of 20 he will graduate 8/30 if all goes as planned.
He will FINALLY get to Phase 2 this weekend over at Corry. He was delayed due to him not getting his paperwork in and than due to the paperwork needing signatures. He has got his liberty buddy and set to see the sights that Pensacola has to offer.
Not loving the humid weather right now in Pensacola. 80 and VERY humid. Says it sucks when having to do PT at 4am in the morning and it is already humid out. He is missing the Illinois spring weather which he always loved right now.
Thanks himmie! My husband too was at Pensacola. He lived in Ft Myers for 20 years prior to moving to Pennsylvania so he was pretty used to the weather there lol!
We received my son's copy of The Keel at the house yesterday. It looks great. He is in quite a few of the photos.
It is interesting that some of yours have already graduated A school and are getting ready to go to the fleet. My son will not graduate until the second half of August. Once they finish boot camp they go in all different directions.
7 weeks ago we watched our Sailors PIR! Wow so much has happened since then. They are all in different stages of their schooling and some have come home, some have yet to leave GL's. Some have re-classified and we have lost a few for medical reasons. All in all, as a mom, I have learned so much and glad to have joined N4M's and met all of you !
Hi Brenda, I'm glad to see your son's heart is taking him where he wants to be. God Bless him!, We got some news on my son thursday and they are going to put in a few screws in his bone cause it is not healing, so that is where we are at right now. I'll keep popping in to let yall know how he's doing. thanks
Catdel86....I hope he is doing ok.. I will keep praying for him.. I never stop praying for all our Sailors!
Yes, my son is going where is heart is...HM. He would of never known how much HM meant until he took the path he did with the Spec Ops. He will remember everything he learned and use it in his new journey. I believe this only validated what he really wanted. You have to try things to know if its what you want, you know. Thanks for your kind words!
its still nice to come back here and see how everyone is doing...kinda like "home". Things are ok with my son...not hearing his orders or a definite grad date from A school so life is a little up in the air. He is very difficult to talk to lately and it's a little heartbreaking.
I hear you on the hard to talk to part. It is distressing but I think that it must be part of the growing independent stage. I have to keep reminding myself that we wanted our children to grow into well adjusted adults who can take care of themselves. I just never considered how much I would miss their depending on me for almost everthing. At least we can still talk to our Navy Mom friends!
Back again!!! Not much new with my sailor. In his third week of school and it is going good. He spends his free time studying and makes sure on Saturdays that he is away from the books.
He hasn't been enjoying the weather right now. Lots of bad storms in Pensacola. Illinois gets storms but he said nothing like what Pensacola gets. He isn't too keen on the humidity either. He misses the spring in Illinois.
Told me that they march to class every morning and one morning they were singing cadence as they were marching past the quarter deck and they got in trouble. He said they lost the privilege to sing cadence and need to earn that privilege back. He said it was kinda ridiculous and wasn't sure if it was that they didn't like what they were singing or if they were too loud.
My son has been studying every day at nuclear A school. Last week we did not hear from him at all. I suppose the course load must be increasing now that class is in its fifth week. We will be visiting Goose Creek next month. It will be more than six months without seeing him.
Well my husband is officially in Norfolk, and I'm still in PA :( It's been such a stressful time for us, because unfortunately I can't move with him until after either our house is sold or rented out. :( Before we were forced to be away from each other because of the Navy and it's so hard now because it's not the Navy making us be apart. Just wanted to vent a little. :) I hope everyone is doing fan-tabulous!
Hi everyone! I know its been awhile. My Son finally classed up and is in his 3rd week of A school. Last weekend was a duty free one for him so I drove to Great Lakes on Friday and pick him and his girlfriend(she is Navy as well) for the weekend. We had a great visit while he was here but hated taking him back on Sunday.
Monday morning as I was getting ready for work, I tripped over a laundry basket full of clean clothes and ruptured the achilles tendon in my right foot. my Doctor is trying to schedule surgery for me ASAP.
My Son says he needs to be home to help take care of me. Aww I told him NO you are right where you need to be.
Vinsmom = Sorry to hear about your tendon. My fiance completely ruptured his about 2 years ago and having surgery within the first week is important. You are in for a lot of pain and several weeks of hobbling around. I feel for you!! I hope you have a speedy recovery and someone to help take care of you. He did very well, of course he is a quick healer. He was told he wouldn't be able to play tennis again for at least a year, but he was back playing 6 months later. Just think of all the fun you will have, getting to drive those shopping scooters around all the stores!
My son will be leaving for Japan soon. He finished A school March 16th and has been on hold there since then, well, after a very short 5 days home. I am happy and excited for him, but at the same time, I am not ready for him to be halfway around the world. Feeling a little sad and helpless....Sure do hope he gets the rest of his leave before they send him over the big pond. I can't believe it's only been 2 months since he graduated from BC.
Hi Navy Family....two months today was that glorious day we got to see our loved ones at PIR! I'll never forget it...or the 9+ weeks we got to know each other during boot camp. My Sailor finished ATT and finally classed up last week! She will be in A-school at Great Lakes until August. She was roaming Chicago this past weekend with some shipmates, which makes me nervous. LOVE being able to talk, chat, text, etc. Definitely need the unlimited plan these days! We're planning a visit with her at GL over Easter weekend. Life is good.
One other thing....it is nice coming back here to see what everyone is up to. It is like "home" like someone said. Its a little sad that there is only a dozen or so posts for the past couple weeks. (During BC, there were a dozen posts every hour!) But I guess we move on. Still, I like coming back to the familiar names and pics on here and FB Navy family group.
Yep...this is still my first stop when I log on and then I go on to my other groups. I am biting my nails waiting for my son to call. He's in his last week of school at GL and then off to Japan. He is suppose to call me today with his dates of leave to come home. I am doing the phone (or mail) dance like we did when they were in bootcamp! I'm so excited...I could BURST!!
I can't believe it's been two months since graduation. I think of that day all of the time and that wonder feeling as we sat there in the bleachers waiting for our sailors to walk through those doors!!
Hope everyone is doing well! My son is now in Groton and today was his first day of BESS (basic enlisted sub school). He volunteered for a memorial ceremony this past Sunday, that honors all the subs the US has lost. He got to hold the flag for the "Texas Seawolf", said it was awesome. The boat USS Providence returned from deployment on Friday, and he missed it. He is doing well. We are planning a trip to Groton May/June for his BESS graduation, short visit, and deliver his car to him. He will be in Groton for about a year. Hope everybody is doing great. I still stop in daily and read, but really enjoy the facebook page.
Hello Everyone! It's been awhile since I posted here. Everything is status quo with my son. He's still training and doing very well. I just visited him this past weekend and it was great! He looks so much better and healthier than he did at PIR and we just had a really nice visit with each other.
Also met up with Himmiemom for lunch and it was great to have that face time to spend with a fellow PIR mom!!! And boy Himmie - that pizza was delicious!
Hard to believe that so many people are getting orders already. Seems like just yesterday they all left home for BC. I wish all your Sailors the best in their journey's!!
Like many others, due to OPSEC Rules, I cannot report much more than I do about my son, so please forgive me if I am vague!
My wife and I along with our other son will be visiting Goose Creek in five weeks to visit my son at nuclear A school. We are driving his car down from New Hampshire to give it to him, then flying back. By that time he will be halfway through his A school, which is six months long. That will be the first time our Sailor has seen any of his family since we dropped him off at the recruiter last December 11th.
William.. that will be a great moment to see him again!
Ame7..... I still stop on this site first to see how everyone is doing. yes its hard to believe it has already been 2 months, almost like another boot camp time frame. Hope you enjoy your visit, the weather will be much nicer this time! :)

Life is Peachy...... I had a great time also and it was wonderful to get to chat face to face. I am glad you loved the pizza. If anyone is looking for a great place for pizza while visiting GL Bill's Pizza and Pub in Mundelein is the place to go. The double decker is to die for. We always go there for pizza when we are out that way.
My son said the AC is on now at Corry Station and is now happy. He isn't used to the extreme humidity that Pensacola has to offer. He loves the warmth and sunshine though and is looking forward to Phase 3 where he can actually go to the beach in a swimsuit!! Classes are real tough right now and spends most of his time studying after class and on Sundays. He says Saturday's are his "free" time to goof off and have some fun with his fellow shipmates.

Eventually they are changing the times from 7am-2pm because they feel the classes are too long. He said he misses the easy life of High School when the lowest score he got on a test was 98%. I laughed and told him that he is now in the "BIG" world. He said he has never studied so much in his entire life as he is now and it is a huge challenge for him. If my son says it is hard than it must be hard. His rate wasn't ment to be easy and was ment to be challenging.
Weather here is enough to give anyone whiplash. We had 75-85 degree weather last weekend and beautiful weather up until yesterday. Now for the weekend they are forecasting rain/snow and windy colder temps. I am so ready for a trip to Pensacola to visit my son right now.
Just wanted to drop in and say "I Miss You All" My Sailor is home on leave till May 5th then he will be off to Sasebo Japan....I am just focusing on the positive right now. He is home. In and out of his room. The best thing is I love to hear his laugh ....it makes me smile and makes my heart happy too. :) Going to enjoy it while I can. I know it's time for him at the age of 20, but as a mother, you never really let them go, you just make them think you have. {{{Hugs}}}
Battlebuddy... I dont care what people say on letting go.... we do let go but no one can tell me that I cant miss every single day, cry a few tears, go by his room to look in and remember when he was home, stare at the phone wanting to just call and say Hi, even though I know I just talked to him that morning. This is how I am and my son is a great person partly because of me, so its ok I do all those things!!!! Enjoy every minute, watch him sleep, carry his laughter throughout the day, give him that one last hug even when you just gave him one 5 minutes ago! We are Mother's and loving our children is one of the things we do best!
mamawalrus, battlebuddy, gramdmac, cathyo and all.....No matter what their age, we're still their Moms. And no matter what, we'll always be their Moms. Growing up is part of life and we all knew they would leave the nest someday, but ours soared like Eagles when they left. It makes a Mom proud, but it sure takes some getting used to. We have to remember they are so confident and strong because we raised them to be that way. God Bless Navy Moms. {{Hugs}}
And last, but not least, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my baby boy!! Wishing him the best on what is yet to come, with the Navy. First of many of his birthdays, where I will not be able to be with him. :-(
Hello everyone!! I am headed to Great Lakes this morning to pick up my son and we get to keep him until he leaves for Hawaii on May 7!!!!! I can relate to you battlebuddy! It will be so nice to just "see" him. I will work on the hovering but I am pretty excited. Want to just focus on my time with him and not the leaving. He will be home for his birthday which is just an added bonus!!! Ah, the emotions of this journey....
Hello fellow moms! My sailor is coming home. He'll be here Monday and home until May 13 and then headed to Sasebo, Japan. What a wild journey this has been since the day he left for boot camp on December 6. We all lived this together....all of the anticipation of the 1 minute phone call when they arrived, and then the box, and then praying for mail, and praying for calls, and praying for them to pass battlestations and then graduation! Ahhh graduation, was the best experience of my life!
And then school, and then orders, and then the date that they can come home. I feel like I have been in a marathon!! I would have been lost without this place!
Sailormom...Hawaii...how exciting!!! Yes, it certainly has been an emotional journey!! One like no other!!
Sending good wishes to all. And I am so full of pride to be a Navy Mom and to be part of this Navy Family!!!
HI ALL --- Wanted to stop by and give an update ...
My Sailor took a few days of leave after A-school --- she went to visit friends in Michigan, then came home to see her dad and her brothers. Surprised both the boys at school and took them out to lunch --- they were glad to see her, as she had told them she wasn't coming home. Then she flew down to see me (I was in Florida for training for work and a couple vacation days --- took my 5-year-old to stay with Grandma). She, her baby sister and I went to Sea World --- Active Duty military gets in free!! She got to stand for applause with all other military before the Shamu show -- I (of course) teared up and was the loudest cheer-er!
Now, she is (finally) at her first duty station in Millington TN. Pretty cool, as it is the Navy Recruiting HQ (why TN? who knows?) and she is basically the assistant to an Admiral! The downside is that she says it's a senior command, so everyone is older and more ranked than she. She is missing the comraderie of boot camp and A-school ... but has found a couple of friends so far, so that's good. I'm praying that she'll also find a church she likes and some people her age via that route.
I almost (but not quite) miss the drama of boot camp --- the daily scouring of notes from those in my division ... the stalking of the mailman ... but it's a new chapter now. I wish all of you and your Sailors the very best ....
Tis!!!! Missed seeing you on here! This just makes me smile seeing all the familiar names from the BC days.....
So glad to hear your Sailor is doing so well! Sounds like she is in a "great" position! Is she going to be there for a set amount of time?
Many of us have been discussing the connection our boot camp division shared and do not find that with many of our "new" chat groups.. I hope you are doing well!
Please keep in touch!
Hi all. My son left for CA yesterday (so did many others). They all arrived safely and will begin some intense training.
So happy for those who are getting visits from their Sailor. For those getting assignments already, I wish nothing less than safe travels and wonderful adventures for them all!!!
Thanks, MAMAWALRUS!! I definitely haven't found the connection with other divisions ... and can't find a group for NAS Millington at all. Your Sailors are all continually in my prayers ....
Hey All....gotta say I am a little jealous that so many of you are seeing your sailors.....but very happy for you as well. My son is still in GL and thinks he will remain there until October then he will be off to C school. We are hoping to get out to see him again before that, I don't think I can wait that long! Take care and hug those sailors!
Checking in......Looks like a lot have seen their sailors again since PIR. I haven't seen mine since PIR and trying to plan a trip down to Pensacola for his graduation 8/30. With the cost of airfare and the fact Amtrak doesn't go to Pensacola anymore (since 2005 when Hurricane Katrina hit) looks like we will be renting a car and driving there.
My son hit Phase 3 this week and spen yesterday at the beach on a jet ski with a fellow shipmate and his wife who flew in for the weekend. He said he had lots of fun and it felt good to finally wear civi clothes.
He says CTN school is very hard and will be glad when the networking class is over. He is ready for the next classes to start.
Glad to hear everybody is doing ok and some are seeing their Sailors. Just found out today that the new Master Chief changed the rules in Groton, and they cant take leave after BESS....thank goodness we are planning a trip there for his graduation. Sure wish he could have come home with us after graduation, then I found out he has 2 more schools before A school...TCNO & ATT ....so who knows when he will be able to come home for a visit
First I want to say... YEAH for everyone posting again! I think now that our Sailors are starting to venture out and changes are slowly coming,, we will need this group again... Part 2 coming up!
I have not seen my son since PIR either but one of the N4M's went and took me back via Bobble Head! hahahaha It was a riot. She gave me to my son over dinner....that is what N4M friends are for! (Thank u LIfe is Peachy)
Hope everyone keeps us all updated.. its nice to see you all back and to hear where they all are.

Life is Peachy
Hi all. My son left for CA yesterday (so did many others). They all arrived safely and will begin some intense training.
So happy for those who are getting visits from their Sailor. For those getting assignments already, I wish nothing less than safe travels and wonderful adventures for them all!!!

NF Mom
Our son flew 3,000 miles for a few hours visit on a weekend liberty.
Now he is back in Nuclear Power A school in South Carolina.
It was great to see him, even for such a short time. They change and mature.
