Mine is going to Pensacola too. He said that he wouldn't know for sure until Wed as to the exact time he will be leaving, but he did say that it could possibly be 2:00 a.m. Sat.
BobstersMom - mine is going to Pensacola and is in div 077. I live near Spartanburg just across the state line in NC we are going to have to get together. I can't wait to meet you at the M&G. See you tomorrow.
We must! Where are you staying? I'm familiar with Spartanburg because mine lived in Roebuck for a while with his dad. He went to Dorman High while there.
When you look at those days left you can't help but remember the first time you saw the double digits and think this will NEVER end. We've all been through so much in the last 8 weeks, learning to adjust without our sons and husbands. Joy, disappointment.. we've experienced the whole spectrum.
I have to say even though I tend to be quiet, I can't thank you all enough for helping me get through this. Even though my son is light on details you all helped me keep track of what was going on. That more than anything has helped me feel connected.
It's been a pleasure and it's not over yet! I can't wait to meet as many of you as possible tomorrow!
itsmewendee: The sailors may get some sleep before they leave, but may be too excited to sleep. Yes, you would stay up all night! Well, unless you run back to the hotel after you drop him off at 8ish on Fri night, grab a few hours of sleep, and head to the airport in the wee hours (I would do that...at least get some sleep). Hopefully he will know his flight info by PIR and can tell you when he flies out. They will stay at the USO center until time to head to gate so you can meet him there. Could possibly get a gate pass too so you can go with him to gate...airlines makes that decision. If he is on a charter, you can't visit with him out at the airport.
So much to do....so little time! We're leaving this evening for an hotel near the airport (free parking...yeah)! I've got last minute laundry, packing, cleaning, etc. and my grades are due today at school!! But I WILL get it done...because I AM A NAVY MOM! See you all there, Pink Ladies!!
Happy, happy morning, friends!!! Couldn't get online last night to read and share with you all, but I HAVE A SAILOR!! And he's such a nudge -- took 3 calls just to get a phone where I could hear him, and then I asked how was it? and he replied "How was what??"
I nearly flew through the phone!!!
We had a great phone call and were able to 3-way his sister into the conversation, so she cried and we all chit-chatted for about 20 minutes.
Just can't wait to get up there. I'm so proud and so excited!! Don't think the hubby's going to be able to get a flight after all, but he says he'll arrange to go to Chicago in a month or so while The Prince is still in Dive Prep and they can have a "guys' weekend." That'll be a good bonding experience for them. So, it's looking like this will be mom/sis/grandma weekend. LOL!!
Getting my pink scarf fluffled appropriately . . . can't wait to see you all tomorrow!!!
Okay so tomorrow is D day... or Fly day... been checking our flight status as it is snowing here right now... oh yeah. My son is going to conneticut on Sat. Any idea on when they usually fly out. We want to meet him at the airport to give him his laptop and cell phone to take with him. I am soooo excited to see him... and so happy that he made it through. I was just sitting her remembering that first day when we got home from the swearing in...and how horrible I felt and so alone... but now I am so excited to see my SAILOR and know that he has grown up into a fine Man. Thank you to eveyone here who helped me through those rough spots... listened when I babbled on about how lost I was without my son.. and for being the BEST DAMN GROUP EVER!!!!!!! Hoooorah!
Good morning everyone!!! Congratulations again to all of our Sailors...cleaning, doing laundry, packing and going through my checklist..so little time yet very excited to fly out of here tomorrow!!! WoooHooo...my son said he will be leaving to Pensacola until Wed also...so we will be able to spend the wked with him...he wanted for us to stay until Mon but will not possible...we will enjoy every min with him though...sorry for the moms that have a Grad-n-Go..i dont understand either why they have to do this to the family and the sailors..i believe they should let them spend some time with the family!!! will try to be at the M&G tom...good luck to everyone and have a safe trip!! thank you for all your support through this journey we shared and we will most definitely keep in touch!!! you all ROCK!!!!
Good Morning Everyone,,,, Happy day I drive to Vegas today an then fly out tomorrow,,,, It seems like yesterday I was missing my babygirl, and a matter of days I will have her in my arms, hugging her an kissing her. I printed a check list someone posted here don't recall the name sorry:( but my hubby was wondering what is the lent brush for an the tide stick.. Just wondering, I try to tell him that is for her just incase she gets dirty or something.. his reply is well it happenns what can they do.. I told him they can make her do push ups or sit ups lol.. so can some one else tell me anything else I might need. if you already attended graduation. Oh ya also we are renting a car, staying at the super 8 motel about 4 miles from RTC. I was going to take the shuttle from the hotel but it departs at 6 15am should I just drive there better.. shuttle is first come first serve.
itsmewendee: I know it doesn't make alot of sense why they get to the airport hours before their departure. And, I know it doesn't seem fair to us that they don't consider the families wanting to spend time with the sailors. We have to remember, though, that this is the military and they do things that make sense to/for them and not to/for us. My husband is Army National Guard and I've learned that things just don't make any sense sometimes and I chalk it up to just being the way things go in the military. I still don't like things but I've learned to accept them. (The one instance that really irked me was when the unit left for the airport at 2300 and they didn't fly out until 0700 the next morning. Considering they were leaving for Iraq, it would have been nice to have had some extra time.)
For me, we aren't going to PIR. My sailor leaves early on Saturday also to head to his A school and he asked us to go there instead. GL is a 13 1/2 hour drive for us, whereas A school is 4 1/2 hours. We'll get there Saturday and have through Monday with him, also. As much as I hate to miss PIR, spending more time with him is more of a precedent. It is tough that you are only going to get to see him for a short while; I am sure you will make the best of it and enjoy your time together.
Good Wed. Morning everyone.....I drive to Vegas at 2 o'clock today and flying out at 12:58 a.m. arriving in Chi town around 7 a.m in the morning. I am sooo stressed out it feels like someone hit me in the back of the neck....I hope I'm not forgetting anything : o
Ok so i have a HUGE problem....I can't seem to find my daughter's birth certificate or her social security card! Just my luck......what should i do?!?!
Hey Waiting. The family guide says you need her birth certificate, but previous PIR groups said they didn't ask for it. Good luck and we'll see you in Great Lakes. :)
Hi Ladies!! I am in Waukegan IL--3 miles from the base. We arrived at the Ramada Inn around 12:00--waiting for the rent-a car to come pick us up. The hotel is reallly nice--The Meet Great area is very nice also!! See you tomorrow night and then off to graduation to see our sons-husbands-boy freinds-brothers-grandsons!! WHOO HOOO--can't wait!
Leaving tomorrow morning for 6 hour drive....UGH but so excited time will fly by. OMG I cant believe I get to see my son in 1 day 21 hours......cant wait!!!
I am leaving at 3 am also, for a 12 1/2 hour drive with 4 kids (18, 16, 6, 4, help me!!!!). And I agree, it is well worth it!! Safe travels everyone ;)
Sorry for the breach! I've removed it. . . I just knew I remembered seeing it up here previously, so although I DID have a second thought, I ignored it. Next time, I'll try for a third thought! :} {looking ashamed}
just got off the phone with my son. All is well in DIV081. They are having fun this week. He even got on a computer and we chated for a few mins then I lost him. See everyone in two days.
just spoke to my Sailor Son for the second time in 6 days- I'm getting spoiled! Everything is great. Div 082 earned ALL flags and CNO flag! One thing he mentioned, was that ALL Sailors will be entering the hall wearing ski masks or scarves over their faces. They will then all turn around and remove them at the same time. They are doing this because....?? Maybe they think it isn't difficult enough to figure out who our kids are! After all, they are ALL wearing the same thing and they ALL have the same haircut, and they ALL will march the same way... oh, I guess the female sailors will look a little different, that narrows it slightly...LOL!
Ok, you guys! You did it! You made it through! Safe travel and enjoy PIR...one of the most exciting days (and weekends!) of your life...that is a promise!
My son will graduate this Friday! ship 09 Div 078 we are all looking forward to seeing there.. am lookin forward to meeting some of the moms of the graduates.. some one told me about a meet and greet some of the parents of the graduates. not sure where or what time?
We leave on a 7am flight out of Tampa in the morning, can't wait until Friday morning and seeing our "Sailor". Everyone travel safe, see you in Great Lakes!!!!!
