DIVISIONS: 121-128   807, 808   920,921

This group started on 2/8/11 and we survived boot camp, laughter and tears.  Now our recruits are sailors and headed in many directions, but we'll continue to support one another throughout!

Thanks Craig, Maybe after PIR we'll have some pics to post!  I can't put any of my son on here though---rules rules rules ;-)
  • mumziepooh

Single digits!  Yea!  So how much longer do we send letters?  I don't know the lag time between when I send and he receives.  I have two going out today.
  • terry268

Pooh it depends on where you are at Im in Alabama and the lag time is 4 to 5 days   Thats why I always put on the back of the enevelop what day i mailed it so they will see it
  • Jajajo

If the letters don't make it in time before graduation will they be forwarded on to where their A school is?
  • Marianne(Ship04/Div807)

diannep and melhugsnavymom-Thank you for the downloading advice.  I got my gate pass.
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I'm in Cali and will probably send off my last letter on Monday.  I think it takes three days to get there.
  • jim'scupcake

I am also in CA...I was going to send my last one April 1st.  That will hurt..as I have send one everyday.
  • diannep

Great piks, mamaseal!  What a moment when they trade those recruit caps for the sailor caps!  Very emotional for them....
  • diannep

Jajajo:  They SAY that the letters are forwarded, but some never arrive.  We always advise to stop writing 10 days before PIR, or if you do continue to write, then copy them and take copies to PIR with you in case they didn't arrive.
  • SR Mom Ship 11 Div 124

I sent my last one yesterday and he won't get that one till Thursday or Friday. He should call on 4/1-2 after battlestations. Hoping for at least 30 minutes. Shoot, I don't want to write anymore I am ready to go.
  • prdmom (ship 4, Div 807)

Ladies...WE ARE ALMOST THERE!!!!!! Down to single digits!!!
  • SR Mom Ship 11 Div 124

I could not get to sleep last night. If this is any indication, I'm going to be a stark, mad, raving lunatic come April 7th
  • texasmom Ship 11 Div 179

So, I haven't been on line in a while to see what all is going on.  WOW!! I bet ya'll are excited.  Just 9 days left.  Congradulations to you all.  I talked with my SR Sunday for an hour.  He sounds great this week.  His knees are still bothing him so not sure where we go from here.  However, I know that the Lord knows and we will wait patiently.  Thank you all so very much for writting him.  He said he got like 40 letters last week.  He was so happy about them all.  He is trying to write back to you all. Thank you so much for all that ya'll have done.
  • NavyMomofOnly1Girl Ship 9 DIV126

Craig, My daughter's boyfriend's real name is Lawrence Bodway.  His "nick name" and the name on the sheet is Buddy Bruno (his mother's maiden name).  I was thinking of asking him for his birth certificate, which normally has the mother's maiden name.  At least that would be a link with the last name.  I'm mailing my last letter tommorrow.
  • Bebe

Less than 9 days!!!  I can't wait to see my son...  mailed my last letter today...next one will be A-School Pensacola.  Thanks for all the great information...
  • Craig

NavyMomofOnly1Girl - You probably will have a hard time getting him in since it not a simple nickname fix (ie Michael instead of Mike).  That is like 100% off.  So he may have to wait to get in.

  • MamaMia

Anyone have a son named TIM in the 807? If so, we're dining together at PIR or so my son has requested! Glad you like the new pics. I'm about to direct a play (after working all day) and time is limited or I'd attempt a slide show as Craig suggested.
  • five10fevr(HM school)

My son wrote "ma" on our copy of the letter for his grandma we are hoping he put her real name.

I am sure your daughter  put the coprrect name and you guys are stressing over nothing.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

NavyMomofOnly1girl- you may not have a problem at all. When we went we had family member who was on the list that was unable to go at the last minute. We took one of my daughters friends with us instead. When we were checking in we told them that Philip was unable to come but we brought Hannah in his place. They marked through his name and put hers and told us to enjoy PIR. They are so nice and seemed very accommodating. I really don't think you will have a problem at all.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

They probably did get mixed up. I have never heard of a whole division not graduating. There are 12 divisions in this group.
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

I don't think you will have a problem getting in the 2nd guest. We had 13 div's graduate in July and we took 4 extra guests and they all go in.
  • lidsterzoo

My son was in Ship 11 Div 122 and is now Div 126? He called me today informing me of the change and said he got in trouble? I sure hope he's messing with me! He said he would explain when he see's me next week. He has done insanely well so far(up until now?) Maybe one in trouble all in trouble? I really don't know how that all works. He did say he was still graduating tho. Any thoughts?
  • Ragdollrae HM A school SA

Wow - I have been away for a few days and had about 13 pages to read to catch up. I am sad for those who are not graduating due to injuries. I can't imagine how tough that has to be on the SRs and the families. You are all in my thoughts.

I am excited that there are only a few days - yes days - until graduation. It seems so unbelievable. I have received my shirts, I have a cross with an anchor on it, a CAC card, binoculars, instructions, and parking pass all put together in my travel bag. I am waiting on one more gift to arrive that I ordered and a new camera. It was time for a new one and I couldn't think of a better occassion!

Taking a deep breath and anxiously waiting to get that call this Friday. I am psyched!!!!!!! Woohooo - let's go!!

  • Melhugsnavymom

Terri268- where in AL are you from?  We claim Auburn as home :) even though we live in Washington at the moment. :)

  • jim'scupcake

Ragdollrae..a new camera!  I just told my hubby that we need to get a new one...and what better time than now...just hope we can learn how to use it before next Friday!  The excitement is really starting to take over.  I will have to write my son and let him know that I will try very very hard not to hug to tightly and not to cry to much.

My Mother reminded me that when her and my dad came to Ft Jackson to see me graduate from Basic Training (many many years ago)...that after the ceremony was over, and they (family/parents) were brought to a waiting room for us...that as soon as I saw her..I yelled..."mama..mama.."...and I just got to them and cried and cried.  She said she remembers it like it was yesterday (ok...it was 1983)

I am so excited to see my son!!

  • Ragdollrae HM A school SA

That is a cool memory, Jim's cupcake! I bet we will all leave there with the same. I know my son will call me Mama - just like my little guy always has and I can't wait to hear him say it!!  i am welling up just thinking about it. Wow - have to pack the kleenex - good reminder!
  • diannep

WAR EAGLE, Melhugsnavymom!  Auburn graduate here, as was my late hubby (undergrad and vet school).  Good to see an Auburn Tiger on here!
  • diannep

lidsterzoo: I don't believe I have ever heard of them switching to another division in their same PIR group?  Weird.  But being in 122, he would have gone in the first group of BattleStations so would have completed PFA and other tests earlier than maybe some of the later divisions. Other than that...I can't imagine why they moved him just 4 divisions back.  Strange.  Usually they move them out of the entire PIR group and they rejoin a division later in another PIR group.  Maybe he is just joking with you?  Do you think?
  • diannep

KIWI:  They have this group mixed up with 4/1 which has only 7 divisions.  Just a mistake.

  • diannep

I disagree, Craig.  In light of what Lala posted, where they switched a name on the list at PIR and had no problems, I think that NavyMomofOnly1Girl will have no problem getting him in. As long as he is with the "group!"
  • Craig

diannep - This is what I'd be worried about.  His name is not even similar to what was put on the list.  If they can switch names back and forth, then what's the use of having a list?   What really concerns me for this group is the stuff going on in Libya.  But I truly trust your's and Lala knowledge, you guys know this stuff a heck of alot better than me...  What NavyMomof1Girl needs to remember, is no matter what, if they don't allow him to enter because his name is not on the list, he still can be a "Stand-by" person if there is room.  So don't give up....

All others - Remember, Battle Stations is not the end of the line for your sailors.  They still must maintain their military bearing (ie not goofing around).  My sons unit lost 37 people 2 days prior to PIR because of what they did.  Many of the sailors families were already traveling to Great Lakes and had no idea they wouldn't be at PIR.  Bottomline, tell them not to mess up in their final week, they will set them back...

  • diannep

But why would he be a standby person on the list if he IS the person and the family members there with him can verify that?  Maybe what she said about bringing his mom's birth certificate or something showing ID with the same last name as on the list would help.  Probably should cover all bases with as much as ID as he can find!  :-)

  • Craig

diannep - Lets suppose this guy flys to GL.  Do you think the TSA will allow him to fly if his ID doesn't match his boarding pass?  Heck, his name isn't even close.  I know if you forget to add the middle initial on your ticket, and your offical ID has it on there they can be hard @sses and not let you go.  You can have your entire family there vouching for you, but guess what, their (the family) word is nothing.

Now granted the GL PIR is not like the TSA, however, during the times we are in (Libya)  I just want NMo1G to know that she has other options.  If they allow the BF in, then that is great.  Heck I all about making stuff easy.  But, you should always be ready for a second plan in case the 1st one doesn't pan out.

What I don't want if for the BF to just give up.  No, you fight this with every option available.  Just like you said, if he has a birth certificate, then bring it.  But have all the bases covered....

Again,  I am only an expert with real (non-boot camp) Navy stuff.  Both you and lala know way more stuff about boot camp and PIR's than I will ever know.  That's why NMo1G needs to listen to you guys.  I'm only here to point out that he needs to think of other ways to get in.

Frankly, I'd love to here how this whole story works out...It will be interesting....

  • diannep

You are too funny, Craig, and I understand what you mean.  I am definitely one with plan A, plan B, etc in place in times like this!  I agree that they need to be prepared for anything.  Hopefully we will hear how it turns out for them. Just hoping that one way or another, he gets in to see his girl PIR!
  • diannep

Denise:  My son got asmoed when in bc for not reporting to the RDCs that a shipmate had "fraternized" with a female SR and got her phone number.  The guy had showed my son where she wrote it down for him.  This was early on in bc and they wanted to let the guys know that rules are rules....my son was mortified that he was supposed to "snitch" on another shipmate...but there is a reason for all of the rules, whether the SRs agree with them or not.

I will say that in my son's case, the week asmo was a good thing for him.  Taught him a great lesson about rules/compliance and he came back into the new division and did great.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

When my daughter was there 4 girls in her div got asmoed 2 weeks back. 2 of them was because one gave the other a cough drop and the other 2 were for talking when they weren't supposed to. The 2 that were talking learned their lesson very quickly and were able to come back to their original division. The 2 with the cough drop had to call their families and have them make new travel plans for a later PIR date. They really don't mess around very much when it comes to rules.

NMO1G- Craig & Diannep are right a plan B is always a good idea. But I really doubt you will have any problems. The two that were changed for us names were very different,  not related to each other at all, didn't even have the same last name as my sailor and one was male, one was female. But please do come back and let us know how this turned out so we will have better info for others in the future.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

For you digital camera owners- When you get to the PIR hall you will have lots of time on your hands. Use that time to take pics of everything in the PIR hall. Look at the pics and change the setting until you get the setting perfect for the lighting you have. Your pics will turn out much better and you will be glad you got the settings right before they march through those doors and you see that all your pics are dark or blurry.
  • Craig

To add to Lala comment - Since you have a digital camera with unlimited photo's, take pictures of the various 900 division people. They are the ones in Blues (or white?) that are helping people, carrying the flags, band members.  Alot of those sailors have PIR the week or two after your PIR.  Ask them when there PIR is, and if it's after yours, tell them you want to take their pictures and tell them to let their families know you'll post them on N4M's so their family can enjoy seeing them.  I took 93 pictures of the 900 division following my nephew's PIR, and those families really loved seeing what their sailors looked like a week or two early...

  • janlee

Hi lasies my name is Jan...im on other PIR groups passing on info, and i saw you are getting close to making the trip up to PIR (congratulations) and wanted to pass this small tidbit of info on to you all....in case anyone is in need of it.

There is a taxi driver that caters to Navy families. I hear he is wonderful (but in high demand). I recommended him to a mom in my PIR group and she called him right away. He arranged to pick her up at the airport and drive her to her hotel. She was traveling alone and was so grateful, she ended up using him the whole weekend. Also,,as it got closer to PIR she posted on the board here asking if there was anyone else arriving at the airport the same time as her and if so, if they wanted to share the taxi ride and split the cost...and there was!, it worked out for her like that the whole visit. here is his info...he is VERY reasonable and helpful.

My son just called and asked for my husband to bring his clothes and his cell phone with him to graduation, so I guess they can have them in pre BUD/S. He also confirmed Battlestations is Sunday night from 9pm to 7am. He said the division is doing really well. They are all working together and getting good scores on inspections. It was nice to hear him sound so good!

GREAT PICTURES OF RECRUITS DOING LAUNDRY TAKEN TODAYhttp://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/photo.php?fbid=10150138943104651...
  • ntz4laa (HM Mom)

I received a letter today that confirmed that 125 is running BS Sunday night.  Also, 125 did the gas chamber on 3/28.  Today is their final PFA, tomorrow is their 3rd test, and Friday is drill inspection.
  • patteye1069

I got a letter today from my recruit! (Ship 11 Div121) He said they will have a lot of flags and pendants when they come through those doors for PIR!! Flagged their last drill inspection and earned independent steaming- gives them the rights to march without a RDC present! and for him to get creative with cadences.. which already almost got them in trouble! he's always pushing the limits!
  • Marianne(Ship04/Div807)

Gina-Got a call from my son as well.  He sounded great.  He sounds very proud of his division.  So good to hear from him.  Just a little more than a week now. We are almost there.
