I do remember reading, possibly in the form letter, that mail takes the same time whether it is first class or express ... I hope that isn't true for UPS.
Navy Wife, I am sooo sorry the phone wasn't working. They better get that fixed right away. I'm sure if he lets someone know it was broken he'll get another chance. I can't see them taking that special moment away from someone that just passed battle stations.
I am crying for all of you!! Congratulations to all the new Sailors. On Saturday, while talking to my SR, the phone kept going out. I could here her saying hello, hello and there was a lot of static on the phone.
Navy Wife, Hopefully he will get another opportunity to call call again! I know this is a special time for both of you!!
Yay! he got to call me back! I talked to him for 16 minutes, then he called his mom, then he called me back and got to talk for another 30 minutes. :D His time still wasn't up yet but I let him go so that he could call his friend and his dad... :)
LOVE that photo! My SR is in the 2nd to back row, in the center (glasses & a grin). This mom is super relieved to "see" him, especially with his trademark grin on his face. I am so happy they got to do this today, knowing what is coming up soon for them.
Images posted on Facebook (where that image came from) are resized and sampled down to 72dpi (dots per inch) in order to take up less server space, increase download times, and because most consumer monitors will only display 72dpi to start with. Most prints should be 300 dpi or larger to get a good quality image. There's really no way to increase the dpi once it's gone but you can cheat it by printing the image smaller. The image on the screen won't be able to be printed at an 8x10 (or equivalent size) due to the compression and pixel loss but you may be able to print it out at 5x8 for an example and have a decent presentable image. This is where consumer brand printers have an advantage over the pros. A home printer will actually blur the pixels and will give you a better print than a pro model will for an image like that because pro printers are calibrated to print just what the image has and not what it shows. If that makes sense. In short (I know, to late), print the image at home on your epson or HP and you'll get just as good or better image than if you take it to someone with a high dollar Canon plotter.
Sites like snapfish and kodak will be going by dpi. They wont really look at the image size as much as they will dots per inch. You can print it out at home on good quality paper or you can put the image on a thumb drive or other media and take it to places like Wal-Mart or most drug stores and print it out for a few bucks. You can also try to contact the dept. that posted the image to see if they can email you the original but they are pretty much stuck with Navy rules when it comes to that so don't get your hopes up. My suggestion is printing at home if that's an option and if not printing at one of the big box stores. I know it's not the best options but we can't be to choosy.
Thanks Mann-Clan. I use snapfish and then instead of having them shipped to me, I pick them up at either Walmart or Meijer - no shipping that way. My printer is down, but I can go to my mom's and try it.
RTC facebook didn't really care for my suggestion to upload the pics with the high resolution. Oh well, it was worth a try since it only takes a couple minutes to do it that way. their grad pics are always so nice because they have the best vantage point :)
I had to work all day and as soon as I got home from work did some last minute packing and got the stuff in the car and drove 180 miles to my best friend's house. I decided to check into this site to see what I missed and was pleasantly surprised to see the pic of 279. My son is in that division. He is in the last row just to the left of the person standing up and pointing and is wearing glasses. So good to see him, even if it's only a picture. We will be starting on our drive to Illinois in the morning. Good luck to all the SR's going through Battlestations tonite. They are in my prayers.
HEY mommas, wives and g/fs!! soooo this is the "home" of all those handsome guys and gals strikin' a pose on facebook!!!! just dropping in to say hello and hope you all are nearly packed for PIR.....whew it's gonna blow your mind!!! if any of your new Sailors are headed to Pensacola then i hope you will drop in on us and say hello!!!
The calls should be coming soon, but not soon enough! I'm on the edge of my seat today! As for the storm I think we will all be ok for flying, looks like it's staying off the coast.
Brenda72, why aren't you coming to graduation? What did I miss?
I am unable to go because of a money issue...too far...15 hours for one day...not that I wouldn't pay anything to see my son graduate...he flies out Sat...and I just spent 1,000 for a legal issue with my ex, his father.
