Lol! He is not my son! He is my best friend! So I didn't get a formal letter, he just told me about it in one of his letters. Then I figured out what he was talking about & so knew where to look for it when it posted! Congrats to all the graduates & their loved ones! You all cheer loud for him since I can't be there on Friday!
Whether your're flying or driving to Great Lakes for Friday's PIR, you are in my prayers. I have 315 miles to drive tomorrow...piece of cake. Thanks everyone for putting up with all my questions and for all the help you've given me since my SR left on July 5. I just wish I had found this site earlier.
We N4M veterans will continue to check this site so please post any last-minute questions you may have, ladies. Get ready for a wonderful experience! HOOYAH!
We are heading out in 30 minutes. I cannot believe this day is finally here! Thanks again to everyone who offered me encouraging words and your wisdom. I can never say enough about wonderful this site and the people who help!
Gate passes are printed, everyone has their drivers licenses so I guess we are good to go!!!
Well we are on our way but I just found out that our connecting flight to Milwaukee is delayed by an hour and a half so we probably won't get there in time for the meet and greet :(
Made it...drove straight thru from Louisiana. Wish I would have known that behind the parking lot of Ramada Inn was a less than desirable apartment complex.
The entrance to to RTC is on Buckley ..... but What is the name of street that the gate entrance is? Illinois St. or further down Buckle to the MAIN gate entrance which is Farragout St.?? We did a drive by and it looked like Illinois gate was blocked off. Thanks! We don't want to waste time in the morning.
Getting ready for hurrican Irene on the Delmarva Peninsula, MD. Wishing there was a live stream for parent's and loved ones to see the graduation who were not able to attend. Congratulations to all Sailors graduating today. OOH RAH! And many thanks to Sandi, Heidi, Patty for all your moral support during these past few months. We got our son's official formal Navy photo's yesterday it does help being able to see him. Now I will put his photo and his fathers photo side by side in a frame his father served on the USS America in the 1980's.
Got to talk to my Sailor(my son) after his graduation...he was glad it was over and is ready to got to A school. Been an emotional day not getting to be there for this moment in his life....I don't plan on missign his next graduation! lol
What a whirlwind! Can't believe it's over! What an amazing ceremony! Enjoyed the little time we had with our sailor! She is now in Pensacola starting the next chapter in her Navy career. I have enjoyed talking to everyone here over the past several weeks. You have all been so wonderful. Thank you so much for all of your support. Best of luck to everyone's sailors!
I cannot believe its over either. It certainly seemed like it took forever for PIR to get here, and just like that it was over. I wanted to thank everyone again for helping me get through this first phase of my son's Navy career.
Home from PIR. What an awesome experienceit was. I loved spending the day with my sailor. Now I will wait until she comes home at the end of October to visit before she ships out to places yet unknown.
Just got off the phone with Son in Great Lakes he graduated 8/26 but the hurricane held him at Great Lakes. We would like to thank Navy4Mom's in particular, Sandi and those who surprised and presented to our Son a laptop computer. If we could hug each and everyone of you we would you all have made this so special for our Son when we were not able to. OOH RAH!
Graduation was just SPECTACULAR!! I just wish we had more time with our son this weekend but they cancelled our flight for saturday so we decided to drive from Chicago to NY on Friday night. 17hrs later we made it home safe, just in time for Irene. I can't thank everyone enough for the support over the 2 months of boot camp. I just wish we had made it to the Meet and Great. I did get to see Dana who I gave a great big hug! She has a heart of gold! Good luck everyone as we all move into the next phase of their careers.
I agree, PIR was amazing. I've never witnessed so much pride and patriotism in one place!
Seeing my son in his uniform made every tear, sleepless night and hours worrying all worth while.
Is anyone interested in sharing our photos? I will be uploading mine to snapfish and I can send you a link to it if you message me your email address. If anyone is willing to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. We sat on the far right end, so I'd love a good pic of the door opening and some views from the other end of the building.
Finally arrived home in the wee morning hours last night.....what an incredible experience!! It was everything and more I thought it would be. Not near enough time though! Been in tears again most of the morning.....tears because I'm proud, but, also realizing that this saying goodbye thing is something I'll have to get used to. My sailor is Active Navy...she won't be home to visit until Christmas. Her school will be 6 months long! I did already get a call from her today though! The open communication is a welcomed relief! Finally!!
I too want to think everyone from this site for the experience and support I had here. Navy for Moms is more than I ever expected as well! It has been a rock for me. I will always remember the journey I shared here with so many wonderful people! To the veterans.....words aren't enough! Thank you for your support and wisdom! It has been priceless. I wish everyone and their sailors the absolute best and calm seas! HOOYAH!
I have some pics...we were using a new a camera and didn't realize our battery was going to die so soon. We wanted to save power for when it ended as well...
I posted an album to my profile. Anyone can view it...It has been nice to be able to text my son and kinda know what he's up to. He sent pics of his new room at A-School. Walk in closet, large room that he shares with another guy. Fridge, microwave...kinda like a hotel. I told him to not get spoiled-his next room may not be as fancy.
I thoroughly enjoyed PIR (except for the part where my son was one of those that passed out during the ceremony) and it was so moving for me. I also enjoyed the time that I got to spend with my son and to share his birthday with him and was so glad that his grandmother got to come also. She has not seen him since he was 2 years old and this was the first time that she has ever seen my daughter, her granddaughter. It is so nice to have communication back again! We are on our way back to Texas. We left Waukegan about noon today and made it to Marion, Illinois tonite. We will spend the nite here tonite and go as far as we can tomorrow, and plan on making it home on Tuesday. Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way...thanks to the veteran moms for being so helpful and enduring all my questions and for the support that everyone gave me. Stacey-it was great to meet you and your family. Your son seems like he is a wonderful young man and you should be very proud of him.
Now they are Sailors on their way to A school. Our son Kyle had so much from with everyone from Heidi's family to Sandi's family. The photo's are great! I know if we were able to make it his day's would have been spent helping his father and I in the hotel room take our medications, eat, take more medications. No young person needs that he had enough of it growing up. The last time I recall seeing our son so happy was before my husband and I got sick. From the bottom of our hearts again thank you so very much he has his Navy Family now too. And knowing this it makes it a bit easier for not only him but us too. God Bless you all and God Bless America.
I uploaded my pictures to snapfish too. I would love to share with others too. Just send me your email and I will send you a link. If you have pictures to share too could you send me a link also? Thank you!
Sorry I had a bad connection at the hotel and couldn't get the photos uploaded. As I am typing this they are uploading to Photobucket, and I will link it as soon as I can. There are some aftermath shots of Irene in there too, just ignore them, I will be moving them out of this album as soon as I am done uploading.
Leaving this group now. Congrats to your new sailors.!!..moving on now to their next step. Blessings and prayers to all of you in the future! Now...you have communication back with your sailors. HOOYAH! Bravo Zulu to all!
Oh the texting & phones calls are so nice! Britt described her room like her cousins dorm, the fridge microwave and dresser lol not a loud noise room of chatting girls anymore... She's gotten to rest and really enjoy her new "home away from home" no one yelling at her for what others are doing too is so nice! She likes her roommate too! All is great & she's so glad she never gave up!
Her best friend from bootcamp is in fl too but about 5 miles away so maybe after a few weeks they will get to meet up during liberty... But for now she says she's very happy with where & who she is with! So glad to get that news!!
hey there Sharon and Diannep...just wanted to say thank you for all the information and support through this transition in our lives...Sharon, i will get your book back to you tomorrow evening...been working ALOT this past week but, will have tomorrow evening off so i will be sure to drop it by...i will put it in a plastic bag, in case you are not home when i come by...take care, God Bless all the Sailors and Military families out there!
Britt is so happy which helps me... I've been back to the er, and now awaiting the return of my dr who's been on vacation in China hopefully with less stres I'll feel beter soon
Reggie, it was nice meeting you in Ill. Hope everything went well and you did not run any more tolls, lol. Sharon, real classes start monday for Ryan. Sounds like the boys are doing some hanging out, He said they were going to Davids room for movies the other night or something like that. He did get his Sec Clearance so now it is just a matter of keeping the GPA up to an acceptable level. He feels pretty good about it after the briefs. He has a 25 YO for a roommate but he says he is never there as he is a couple phases ahead. Sure is alot less stressful now with cell, text, and skype!
Hey, ladies. Did anyone have a sailor who flew out after PIR on Monday or later? We had been told that all fly out on Sat or Sun, but now are questioning that.
If you had a sailor fly out on Monday after PIR....or later that week...please post. Thanks!

Thank you Seachelle, I should have posted the link.
