Checking in from Memphis. Lots of rain and grass is growing high. We have a few COVID-19 cases in our area and most restaurants have reduced hours and/or are only doing drive thru or take out. There was a limited showing of a new release movie “I am Patrick” about St Patrick. It was only showing Tues and Wed and hubby and I planned to see it Wed but they closed at EOB Tues.

WFH is optional for my company. Three of my 4 employees have opted to do that and one said she’s safer coming into the office because she lives with 2 roommates in a small apartment.

Nuke son is out on his sub so not sure how much he knows of what is going on with this. His fiancé is due to go out soon on her carrier. The true meaning of ships passing through the night. Lol

My son is in SC at INDOC, does anyone know the address, asked him to text it but still don't have any answers, do I have to keep waiting?

  • Chipmunk

Northwoodsmom - give me a minute and I will locate it for you.

  • mom of mrams

Signing in from Florida. Weather has been above average and we haven't had rain in I can't remember when.  And its not in the next week picture either. I am retired this year, so no WFH. The stores around here had been closing one by one but now the malls and outlets are closed. Saddest news is that they are closing the beaches.! Will parks be next ?? Sailor is out on the west coast, we are hoping to be able to travel out there this summer. Hoping all stay well.

Thank you so very much Chipmunk, I really appreciate you going out of your way for this information. Sometimes I don't understand why it is such a problem for him to just send it.

  • submomIII

Checking in from Northern California.  No confirmed cases of COVID19 in Butte County so far.  Restaurants are mostly take-out or drive through only.  Gyms and movies are closed.  We were blessed to have our sailor home for about 10 days, and were able to spend 3 days at the coast.  We made it to the beach for about an hour, but It was rainy and no cell service at the house we rented, so we spent time together playing games and watching movies.  It was wonderful!!!!!  We (well, OK, it was probably more ME that was hoping!) were hoping our sailor would get his transfer cancelled - but this morning, took him to the airport where he will eventually end up in Guam.

  • Chipmunk

Northwoodsmom - It is okay. Don't judge your sailor too harshly. Some of this is actually easier for us to get ahold of (when you know where to look) than it is for our sailors. They are not allowed to have a cell phone where he would get this information and then he has to remember to ask, and they are being inundated with lots of other information, or being given a "job" or a task to do, to "earn their keep", while they are waiting to class up.

FYI - The address can be found on the Nuke FAQ group, but you have to know where to look for it and then click the right spot to get a word document to pop up!

A Sawet owl from my walk in the woods Saturday.  Basking in the sun warming up on a chilly day.  They stay in this section of woods for a couple of days resting and eating before flying/flapping approximately 50 miles across Lake Ontario heading to their breading grounds.   This bird is about the size of a medium Florida Avocado.  If they can do that just think what we can do!

Checking in from eastern Washington. I loved catching up on all your posts. My heart goes out to all of you with sailors reaching milestones and you not able to be there.

I am very fortunate in that I am able to work from home - been doing that since Monday. Our sailor is currently on house quarantine. He lives in a house with 2 other sailors and one of them returned from leave in Europe a week ago so they put their house under quarantine for two weeks.

We have plans to take our RV to a State Park near our sailor in a couple weeks to visit him - assuming all is fine after the quarantine of course. And I have to say I’m starting to vacillate on weather we are ok to still do that. Assuming the park is still open it does seem like the one way we can still travel to see our sailor while social distancing. We can take all of our food with us and we have our own restroom with us and even an extra gas tank so no need even to stop for fills along the way. Figured we would just hunker down in our RV with our sailor and go for walks along the canal. And of course we’ll only go if we’re all healthy.

And I really feel for my poor niece - she had her dream wedding planed for a couple weeks from now in Illinois. Her wedding is now looking like a visit to the courthouse with their parents and sister. But she’s rolling with it.

  • 3B'smom

SLSNavyNucHeMom: If I recall correctly, when my son was in THU there were areas where he did not get service. I think he had to go to a certain part of the base to get reception. Your sailor may not be able to walk freely about right now.

We have relatives in CA. Thinking of all of you right now.

My husband just sent this link to me, a video from the Navy Chief of Operations regarding the current situation. I appreciated it.

Hi all - Happy Friday!  Well this sure has been a week to remember.  I'm also in CA with the mandatory stay at home....but there are many exceptions and our business is one that as of this morning was included in the exception so we can stay open.  Being extra cautious with social distancing/safety protocols.  This is crazy.  The plan is work and home and no where else.......Hopefully this doesn't go on for too long.  Youngest did make it home (well at least to his girlfriends) but not after the airlines cancelled his flight and then rescheduled.  Luckily they put him on an earlier flight and everything went well with connections.  He's supposed to be home tonight.  I told him lucky you.  You get out of NE only to come to CA and be put on mandatory stay at home.  Now the question is when he'll be able to get back to NE.  Oh well. It is what it is.......

Love the owl picture and the beautiful sunset!

Oh and happy first day of Spring!

  • momterp

Hi everyone! Checking in from Orange County, California. We are doing fine here so far. My husband works in construction and is still working (although the rain has impacted him somewhat). I work for a school district so we are trying to figure out the "new normal" of how to do our jobs remotely. My Nuke son is on the Washington and they are undergoing their overhaul so he and his roommates are still working. We had been planning to meet up with him at our daughter and son-in-law's in Texas next month but since his leave was canceled due to the current situation we will have to reschedule during calmer times. Hang in there, my N4M friends!

  • SubMom

My son just purchased an MP3 player to take on deployment. Does anyone have suggestions for user friendly music sites where he can download music? He has Apple Music but there have been issues with downloading from them :(

  • ShipOfDoodles

    Try Spotify.
  • Chipmunk

SubMom - I suggest Spotify as well. I don't know if Pandora is still a viable option. Amazon music.  Someplaces you can purchase the MP3s directly and download. If he has certain artists he follows, he might even check their websites. iTunes is another but I think that is Mac or Apple based as well. (and this is not from my personal experience but what I hear my kids talking about.)

  • SubMom

ShipOfDoodles and Chipmunk - thank you!

  • Chipmunk

My son shared this with me for all of you, if you want to mail pkgs, etc. I realize this is primarily for ships as the subs are different. But you need to know your sailors unit & box #.  If you are doing a drop off directly, they will want at least the department and division. I am sharing this because you never know when you will need this information, so ask it from your sailors now or ask them to email it to you when they get to their ships/subs.

    Hey mom!
SHIP and DEPLOYED MOBILE UNITS mailing address is ...

    format: (for your navy/nuke moms)

    RANK (or) RATE SAILOR NAME
    SHIP OR MOBILE UNIT NAME
    UNIT # ______(6 DIGITS) BOX#____
FPO__ (AP,AE, or AA) ZIP CODE_____ (5 digits only)

NOTE1: address mail in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS and NO PUNCTUATION (commas, periods, dashes) for USPS's optical character reader software to easily read unit and box numbers

NOTE2: zipcode is 5 digits only because USPS handles automatically making the zip code + 4 number based on location of the ship or mobile unit, while the 5 digit "zipcode" in the address distinguishes the ship in the USPS's computer system.

  • Chipmunk

Also be sure to have your sailor's ship email. I realize not all of you have sailors on ships with as easy access to email as mine seems to have, but  you can at least email them messages to their ship email and they can read when they are able to. Right now, especially my sailor is probably more concerned about us here at home than where he is at and it is important to keep the communication open as much as possible for their benefit (even those who don't think they need it, just because they forget to share the information with you. - I had to remind mine a few times as well.)

  • Northwoodsmom

Blessed Sunday to everyone. Doing alot of very early spring cleaning. It feels good to get some of it out of the way so when it gets warmer I can enjoy the outdoors. Heard from my son in S.C. seems like they still get weekend liberty. Everything is shut down in Charleston though, good thing young adults think they are invincible. I told him to be careful but I know my best bet is to leave him in God's hands, can't seem to tell him anything. I was surprised to hear they will start A school Monday. Thought they would be in INDOC longer but nothing is normal these days. He said he stays in his air-conditioned room because it is so hot there, (northern boy) but they play ping pong and such. Just thought I would let others know in case they haven't gotten any communication from their sailors. Stay safe and God Bless!

  • Maestra

Northwoodsmom, I am glad to hear that! My son is set to graduate from BC on 10 Apr, so hopefully he will get to go to GC right away, too. As soon as traveling makes any kind of sense, we will head that way! Unless things change... :)

  • New Adventures

Northwoodsmom- thanks.  I have actually tried a couple of times to reach mine to no avail.  I am sure he is fine but you know us moms.  I keep thinking he will need some of his shorts and maybe his laptop given what is coming.  Won't know until I connect.

  • Northwoodsmom

New Adventure, I don't know if your Sailor is in A School yet but my son mentioned that he wanted to call now because he was well aware that once they start A School the amount of time used for classes and studying would limit phone time to call home. That might be why you can't get in touch .

  • Chipmunk

Friday evenings after about 5:30 - 6 pm (after dinner) and Saturday mornings - not too early as they might be sleeping in, and sometimes Sunday mornings were good times to check in with my sailor. I also learned when his PT times were and would often catch him after those, right before headed to go eat. But that can be tricky and depending on your time zone, might still be work time for some.

Laptop and shorts / T-shirt, even if for just in their BEQ are always nice, but make sure you have proper address. Also, sending a laptop, I would definitely insure it, pack it well (places like UPS will want to pack it themselves, or they won't insure, if I recal correctly) and get that tracking #. That will help you and your sailor. I also did my best to mail items so they would get there on Thursday. That way the mail room had time to sort it out, and then get a notice to your sailor (or you check on tracking) so they could pick it up Friday after class or Saturday morning from the mail room. I think the mail room follows typical daytime hours so getting there M-Th was often hard on my sailor. Letters/ envelopes are delivered to them in class and so I rarely mailed a letter to my sailor - as he said they get opened a lot or encouraged to in class and that may not always be a good situation. I discourage sending money and we did not even send gift cards in the mail. Instead I just put money in his account if I wanted to bless him.

  • Velvetenor

    Hi all, Happy Monday!

My son had an interesting day on Friday - his roommate got married! He and 2 of his friends went off-base on Friday after class to a certain lady's house who apparently performs marriage ceremonies for a lot of the sailors at GC. His roommate's fiancé (now wife) came all the way from the west coast to visit for the weekend, and the two got married. My son and his friends were there as witnesses, and my son video-taped the ceremony. Sadly, there was nowhere for them to go afterward for a bite to eat - they were only able to find a take-out smoothie place. This was pre-planned, and the roommate did get permission to stay off-base for the weekend with his new wife. She is also in the Navy and will be heading back to her base this week and then will be deployed at some point in the near future (depending on COVID-19).

So, life does go on in spite of the pandemic, and love finds a way! <3

  • JayDee659

Velvetenor that's wonderful!  Life does go on.  My daughters was married during Power School, on base by another Nuke who had license to officiate.  I was able to hook her up with an officiant courtesy of Navy for Moms!

I'm waiting to hear from my Nuke today.  She's been waiting for the Navy to go to Duty Section only and according to Navy Times it's been made so.  That will give her more time at home and less around others.

  • somar

Just received "I'm a Sailor" call. My S said that they are holding Nukes at GL until there are enough to move them by bus to GC. So any on here please be aware of the delay for your S leaving GL.

Fortunately he will be held on the A school side of GL so he will get his phone back.

  • Chipmunk

    Congratulations Somar!!

JayDee659 - I am sure the "fur babies" will enjoy having Mom at home more.

So, this feels like a really long day for me. I think too many late nights with the time change. But I also was trying to get a care package ready to mail to my sailor. They had a local drop but since we are halfway across the country from our sailor, I couldn't make it. Instead, I made plans to ship a package, thanks to my sailor sharing his ship address. Well guess what - I had no idea and no clue, but since it is an FPO address, I had to fill out a customs form!! Try doing that with lots of little items, most of which I had in the house, so couldn't think what price to put on them, nor how to figure out the weight of everything when the postmaster had weighed the box for me to fill in the weight. Thankfully, I had double checked and the one thing my sailor wanted was a sample sized bottle of hand sanitizer. My daughter had some, but NO, I could not send those, so I went from one store to another looking for empty travel bottles, so maybe he could fill from a larger dispenser if they had one on the ship. All this time, I was putting on and taking off food service gloves!!  - But it was worth it for my sailor!

  • Chipmunk

Velvetenor - Thanks for sharing the GC wedding!! Congratulations to the newlyweds!

I had an email from my sailor this morning, someone had misread the name on the watch bill (boy were the last names close) and accidently woke my son up an hour earlier than he needed to be! Poor guy, he said he had specifically been trying to get extra sleep due to previous lack. So prayers for him. He did say he had passed his last test and gave me the next steps and then final boards to be qualified and then focus on Reactor Operator. I don't understand it all, but I know they are pushing all of them on his ship to get qualified early.

  • AP's*nuke*mom*

oh my!! I have been reading all of your posts and loving them... I was signed out and didn't realize it until today.. So here is is.. I have been trying to send A's car to him and have it all set up. But since my state is in the STAY at HOME time with this COVID-19 they cant seem to get a driver. Best part of it is that i dont even live in a county with alot of cases yet!! But anyway I got some pictures from a young lady that delivered him a birthday cake for me on sunday.. Made my day and his.... There are some many good people out there still. that makes me remember that we do have a lot of good in this world we just need to look fir the good.. thank you all for who y'all are on here... In these times we all need to be as positive as we can....

P.S. this being off work and not seeing my students is killing me.... miss my kiddos...

  • Chipmunk

AP's*nuke*mom* - too bad you can't just get in the car and drive it to your sailor, and then get a flight home!

  • Chipmunk

I hope that something can get worked out sooner rather than later. It is great to know that we have teachers who miss being with their students. Maybe you could write them a note and encourage them or give them some ideas on things to do at home.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi everyone - Happy Tuesday.  Things are getting weirder and weirder out there and I hope everyone is safe....Every day it's something else.....

    Image result for tuesday pictures

I had to go out and help my mom with some stuff yesterday and I took my youngest son with (since he's home from NE).  I had to explain to her that we couldn't get close - social distancing is important right now.  She wanted a hug from him so bad but we couldn't let that happen.  At least she got to see him which made her happy.

Chipmunk - it's amazing how just one hour of sleep can make a huge difference at this point.....sorry he got woke up early :(

Velvetenor that is a such a sweet story.  Glad they could make it work!

I've heard that they are delaying moving sailors from boot camp to GC - and I heard they are talking about busing them.

Our news was reporting this morning that domestic flights might soon be cancelled - they are really limited right now anyhow.  Not sure how youngest is going to get back to NE on 4/9.....might not be a flight then.

AP's*nuke*mom* - I'm so glad your son was able to get a cake delivered to him!  Happy belated birthday to him!

  • Northwoodsmom

AP's*nuke*mom, I make lunches for our students and we put little notes in the bags, maybe you could talk to the kitchen staff and maybe they would let you add those in their bags for them. It's just a suggestion but you could encourage them and let them know your thinking of them. I value teachers like you. God Bless

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - Oh how hard that must have been for your mom to not have hugged her grandson!!

  • AP's*nuke*mom*

thesuperm72, Yeah I am in special education in high school and there are quit a few that don't have internet. But the teacher I work with has been emailing thru our google classroom I am the assistant so I do not have the same capabilities she does... But she does include me in the emails... So the ones that do respond I can see.   They all have chrome books... so thats a plus. I just want to know the ones that come to me and look to me as their safe place are ok.. I just keep praying for all of them... Thank you all for your kind words... I'm not sure whats harder missing my Nuke or missing my students.. Anyway Happy hump day to all...

Velvetenor, thank you so much of the pic of our sons and the wedding.... I love it.. Thay are all such good friends and look so happy!!!

  • AP's*nuke*mom*

Northwoodsmom , I just saw you post. I'm not sure if our district still is doing lunches I will Have to look... thank you so much for the amazing idea

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

    See the source image

I've been trying to get on and post but every time I turn around I'm scheduled to listen to another webinar on the COVID19 virus.  Trying to gather as much info as possible for our employees.  I hope everyone is safe.

Chipmunk - yes it was very hard for GMA not to get a hug from N.  But she was happy she got to see him anyhow. Continuing to do lots of facetiming with both GMA's and with B&C in Michigan.

My dad had a heart procedure done on Monday (in Seattle).  He thought they were going to cancel it but they didn't so he spent 2 nights there and then was happy to get back home.  I'm glad things went well and no complications.

  • Chipmunk

Kristen - Welcome to Nuke Moms!! Is your loved one in Goose Creek, SC at Nuke school or elsewhere?  My sailor is out in the fleet now, serving on a carrier.

  • JayDee659

BsNukeMom, I'm sorry your dad needed the procedure, but I'm glad all's well and that he's home!

I'm in charge of tracking customer shut downs.  Seems like there are more and that the ones on file are extending their shut down.  Makes me sad.

On the other hand, my dogs are in hog heaven!  Both mommy and daddy home ALL DAY.  I'll never be able to go back to work!

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - Here the governor has suspended all elective surgeries, medical and dental to spare out protective wear. Heart procedures are not what I consider elective usually, at least if it requires a hospital stay. I am sure he was glad to be home and I am glad he is doing well.

JayDee659 - I don't know exactly what you do but it sounds like what is going on with your customers is not very good. I am sorry.

  • JayDee659

Chipmunk, I'm an EA for one of the largest steel processors in the country.  Our steel is in your car, your kitchen, your lawn mower, and on and on.

It will all turn itself around.  I'm on a self imposed Media Distancing (no news for 2 weeks) but my boss told me that the market was up big today.

  • Islandgirl

    Aloha friends!
I have been trying to keep up with everything in this crazy time and so have not posted for quite some time.
Well, it’s been 2 weeks today since I returned to Maui from Charleston to visit my MMN daughter. It had been planned as a graduation party trip for A school but as some of you might remember, she had a 18 day delay. Turns out that it was best for me to keep my plans as she was able to be with me after seeing her shipmates graduate without her :( and now there will be no visitors allowed when she graduates on the 10th. I understand that post grad leaves are cancelled as well.
I’m praying for all of you wonderful moms and your families in this scary time.
On top of COVID19 here on Maui we had a Tsunami warning last night from the Japan earthquake. It was cancelled, but still shook everybody up.
B’sNukeMom - so glad the procedure was completed without incident. Medical facilities are frightening places to be just now.

I’m very proud of all you teachers trying to help keep students fed both physically and emotionally. My 17 year old son here has heard ZERO from his school or teachers since this all began during spring break. Just district messages extending stay home time. He was on track to graduate in December but now we have no idea what will happen.
Very rainy and windy on Maui today so getting caught up with housework and correspondences.
I hope you all stay well and safe and I am so grateful for the camaraderie.
  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Well I guess it was just a matter of time - RTC is locking down staff for 90 days - treating it as a "deployment" and new recruits coming in are being quarantined for 14 days.  Here's an article on it:

    RTC Locking down staff

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Hi Sea Sisters! It has been a very long time for me, and as I tried to catch up and read all the posts I missed after 3 wks away, well, it took awhile. So much happening with our sailors and with you all! Weddings, medical procedures, plans torn asunder... I lift you all in prayer. I also lift especially all the family and sailors on the Roosevelt. These are crazy scary times but we'll get through it.

I visited Orange County CA just as the crisis was hitting big. It seemed like in 24 hrs the world turned upside down. It was a great trip and we got out OK. The lockdown happened after we left. I'm self-quarantining from the trip until Wednesday.

My sailor and family have been doing fine in SC but kids are kind of bored not being in school. My other children are all working from home.

The school district I work for is basically closed. A kind benefactor arranged for every employee to get a casserole yesterday. I drove through and picked up lasagna-they handed it through my car window. There was a variety to choose from. So kind! They are still paying everybody which is a Godsend.

My niece in WY is a nurse practitioner in a hospital and my sister (her mom) is afraid she has COVID19. Fever, sore throat. She is quarantining herself in her bedroom but her 2 youngest (of 7 kids) just couldn't leave her alone so Gma has them. My sister is an RN so understands the possibilities. Prayers this is just a flu.

B'sNuke, the situation being what it is, I hope N gets to stay for a long time.
