NancyJo - I'm so sorry I didn't get to see you when you were in OC but with us just getting home from Cabo and then all that's happened since then it just didn't work out this time :( I'm glad you had a nice visit though while you were here and that you made it home safe. I sure hope your niece doesn't have the virus and it is just the flu - I don't know anyone personally yet that has it but I'm guessing it might just be a matter of time....
N's flight back to NE is scheduled for 4/9 but who knows if that will happen.......of course right now there's no reason for him to even go back......
Scary what's happening on some of the carriers. Going to be hard to contain with so many in close quarters....
My son has comps Monday!! (A-School) Was looking forward to seeing him after grad, but that will have to wait for another time. He NEVER posts these days, but sent out a 20 push-up Instagram challenge, complete with video but no identifying name or facial shot. Wow, I thought--that's my kid????!!!!
Before things got out of hand with Covid-19, I committed to adding to my little doodle family. I know when the house empties out again in late August, there will be a huge hole to fill, so I am really glad I did. I actually looked for rescues, but it is nearly impossible to find hypo-allergenic rescues. So my eldest got his first non-hypoallergenic dog (Addie--a shelter lab mix), and I will be picking up Rossi soon--she's a Goldendoodle. Did you all know that NYC has run out of dogs to place? That is good news in the midst of trying times.
ShipOfDoodles2, I am a huge animal lover too. Mainly dogs but some cats showed up on my back porch so they have become part of the family too. They are loving the fact we are home more than usual knowing they get alot more attention. Isn't it great that they ask do little of us and give so much more back. No matter how bad a day I might be having those wagging tails and admiring brown eyes makes my heart just melt.
ShipOfDoodles2, oh yeah I forgot to mention I talked to my son last night and he said he starts A School Monday as well. A couple of the guys he came down with start as well, maybe they are classmates.
Thank you B'sNukeMoM! Smitten, we are. I cannot wait to meet Addie, should my son and his fiancee ever get to leave Minneapolis!!
Northwoodsmom: yes, my two (soon to be three) doodles and Bob the Cat keep my heart overflowing! I do not know what I would do if the house were empty of these loves.
I may have confused the issue regarding my youngest. He had PIR 11/08, so is just finishing up MMN--excited to class up for Power School at some point--should he get through these last exams as well as he has the others. I have been following along on all the stories about our sailors who started before and after my son. I don't know what your son's specialty will be, but mine said the time has absolutely flown by. He has been a happy guy! So, best wishes to yours on his classroom journey ahead! Keep us posted!!
(Sure wish we had the ability to "heart" a post on this site like we can on Instagram. Love, love, love the many inspiring and fun posts and memes!)
Sunflower, thanks for sharing the news. Mine was down in Charleston last weekend, he said they were being careful but to a young adult careful doesn't mean the same thing as careful means to a mom. I am so glad they are now restricted, maybe I can no longer ground him but the Navy sure can, LOL. In fact the Navy has accomplished more in the last 3months than I have in 26 years.
Yesterday I asked my sailor how his job has changed since COVID and he said hasn't really which he thought was strange. He's an instructor at NNPTC. So, our sailors are still moving through the pipeline.
NancyJo - NNPTC is probably handling things as most of the other bases and military installations are. Although, the classrooms in the Rickover hold groups larger than 10.
Had to dig out my red T-shirt to wear today! Yesterday's temps in the summer would have meant the A/C on, but thankfully the house is not quite so hot yet and we have overcast today, but the fans are on. Not ready for A/C weather in March!! Almost 90'.
ShipOfDoodles - thank you for sharing the puppy pics! They are adorable!! Since I have been married to my husband (25 years) I have not been able to have any pets due to his allergies, which are pretty severe. I have been looking into possibly getting a Goldendoodle since we are going to be empty-nesters soon and I will be alone working from home most days in the future (COVID-19 notwithstanding). However, I know that there is no such thing as a completely hypo-allergenic dog, so my husband is not convinced we should get any dog. What are your thoughts on this?
Hi, Velvetenor! I have adult onset of exercise and allergy -induced asthma--allergic to cats and about 30 other trees, grasses, leaf mold, animals, etc. which is why I went this route. Yes, it is expensive, but a reputable breeder will have the DNA testing of the sire and dam confirming hair coat--lots to learn, ha ha. If you choose a multi-gen doodle (labra, golden, etc.), you can pretty much rest assured there will be very little shedding--if any. I can wear all black, shower my doodles with all kinds of affection, rubbing their coats etc., and not have a hair on me. What I do find occasionally, are small fuzzy dust balls in a corner here and there. Their coats remind me of wool in a way. My son is highly allergic to my cat, and has trouble with the doodles only if he pets them excessively and then rubs his eyes. He usually adjusts after a day of being around them. My doodles sleep with me and I keep a blanket over my comforter at night--washing it every few days. I cannot say enough about this particular "breed"--they are so loving, so friendly, so happy and have such wonderful personalities. You can PM me any time if you would like more information!
ShipOfDoodles, those are adorable! I can't find it right now, but I had a picture of my black lab laying there with the same Kong Moose. Bosley loved his moosie and I still have it even though Bosley passed on in 2016.
My girls got groomed yesterday. They were pooped when I got them home, but they look wonderful!
I had a long talk with my Nuke last night. They are down to two days on, 6 off. She and her room mate are on different duty sections so the dog, cats and hedgehog will not be home alone. She does think that after they all get tested, more cases will pop up. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
Velvetenor- We have allergies in our house too and put off getting a dog despite the begging of our children for years. We have two labradoodles now and as empty nesters I can not imagine life with out them.

The one the kids loved sent my nose a twitching. She had a girl left of a labradoodle litter who was 10 week and black. I guess black puppies sometimes go last. 15 years later she is still with us.
The kids fought over her and drove me nuts. I was connected to the doodle owners group and a breeder there was helping someone find a new home for a 4 month old puppy. They lived about 9 hours away but had family about 1/2 between us. We went and check out the puppy and they check us out. He is my shadow now that his boy is in the Navy.
Allergies can come from many things. The dander is the most common but pee and saliva can be issues too. The first family had one in diapers and one in pull ups. I think they missed the my fuzzy boy was an excitement peer and since he had not yet had a hair cut just kind of mopped it up. gross I know. We got him all cleaned up and better trained and the issues went away. I think it was why they could not keep him even after bringing him all the way for Australia.
Hi all - well we made it to Friday - and our company is still open (for now!). Trying so hard to be super careful with everything. My husband went to both Winco and Costco today and no toilet paper lol. He said he just missed it at Costco.....crazy times for sure!
The USNS Mercy arrived at the Port of Los Angeles (not too far from me) and they plan on using it for patients who DO NOT have COVID-19 but need hospitalization. Here's an article on it:
Hello All -- checking in from So Cal. Lock down isn't a whole lot different from our normal retired life except for the lost volunteer & social activities plus dining out. It took hubby awhile to fully comprehend that isolation is all or nothing-he finally took heart when the local Starbucks fully closed thus cancelling his daily social meet-up. We are both high-risk (age & some medical). Luckily we had no trips planned, pending our nuke's schedule.
The exact situation here is unknown. Several cases at the military bases plus have evacuation quarantines at Miramar and cruise ships coming in out of desperation. The news reports statistics of residents vs. non-residents but not much more specifics for individual neighborhoods. So sad about the Roosevelt--hope your sailors are ok.
On the GC front, I have good news for you Mom's who are trying to get some semblance of the upcoming schedule. Our nuke is classing up for Power School right now, exactly at the time he told us back in January. So NNPTC is still on schedule. He says the 7 week T-Track was a good break; now he is ready for class again. My heart breaks for those of you who missed graduations and/or time with your sailors.
Saw photos of the USS Mercy sailing out of San Diego Bay a few days ago. I am so proud of the crew that were able to get her ready in such a short time. She is normally a beautiful sight at SD Naval Base.
Our weather has been ever changing over the last several weeks. Several big rains then sun. Last night was quite a show with hail & lightning. So heads up to those of you further east.
Islandgirl - I enjoyed your post the other day. I was surprised to hear about the earthquake in Japan. I have extended family stationed there and had not heard anything, so "No News is Good News." But a Tsunami warning on top of everything else would be unnerving. Tornado season is coming up on us here and I am not looking forward to it.
I wanted to share a link with you for your 17 yr old son - mine is to watch CNN-10 every morning and this week he shared the links & one line recap with his siblings. Wednesday they took a tour of Hawaiian lava caves, along with other news. It is 10 min, the host is funny, geared towards school age and we have been watching it for several years now. I find it to be about as balanced for national news as possible.
Canuka- Thanks for sharing, I had to chuckle about Starbucks, but I do hope that your husband is able to keep up with his friends. My father was a college professor and even after retirement, he would go over for morning coffee and conversation. My mother said the reason she would not make him move closer to us kids was because he needed that mental interaction with his colleagues on a regular basis to keep his mind alert and for his own well-being.
I just posted a link in WEBCAM, .... discussion to one of the most comprehensive lists of Free Educational Websites that I have ever seen. How I wish I had this years ago. If you don't need it, feel free to share it with someone who might be trying to do school at home for the first time.
MoMom - I sent you a PM - been thinking about you!!
KayCee - I don't think I replied to your post about your hike in the WA mountains - how refreshing!! - Oh to have some hills and trees and opportunity for such again, even my Ozark hills - Here, close by it is mostly flat, and concrete or asphalt, but going out for a walk shortly anyway.
NNLori - Hugs and prayers for your son and the other sailors on his ship.
I love the all the pictures of pets and nature. So very pretty .My husband and I have been home for a week now. I am working remotely and he is off through the end of April. I think he has officially hit the “I’m bored” stage as he is cleaning and organizing the basement! I’m enjoying the peace and quiet for the moment. Hoping the high winds and dropping temps will be short lived so we can get outside for our routine walks. Praying for safety, good health and sanity for all.
My dad had to be transported via life flight from Prosser, WA back to Seattle (UofW) on Sunday. He had the valve replacement last week and I talked to him on Saturday and he just didn't sound good and was in a lot of pain. Well he passed out on Sunday, hit his head. They took him to the local hospital and then sent him to Seattle. Earlier today they went back in and put in a pacemaker. I spoke with him before the procedure and he sounded much better than Saturday. Now I'm waiting for him to come out of recovery so I can talk to him again. He really didn't want to have to go back to Seattle since it is a hotbed for COVID right now but he had no choice. They tested him for the virus before the procedure and he was negative so that's a good thing! He should be able to head back home again tomorrow - he just wants away from Seattle. Please say a little prayer for him that this time everything is ok.......
I never left my house this weekend. Got a lot of yard work done - weather was nice. Sat outside on the patio - watched a movie, facetimed with B&C. Overall pretty relaxing weekend.
I hope everyone is adjusting to this new normal.....be safe.
My A school sailor was supposed to call on Sunday and never did. I am sure he is fine but today I found myself on edge. I even got teary listening to the various corporate officers talk about what they are doing during the speak a little while ago. Hearing the news that there is a case at RTC and is a recruit prior to the new 2 week confident before classes did not help.
I just keep reminding myself this is good practice for once he is at sea and he hopes under it on a boat.
I have been posting pics for my travels elsewhere. Mostly animals at this point. I feel kind of add here but maybe it would brighten the day. Thoughts?
@ New Adventures: I understand the mom's worry-gene because I have one too. When my son was in GC we had the best luck communicating via text. That way they can send a quick message when they have a moment. Maybe that will work with your son too?
@B'sNukeMoM: sorry to hear about your dad but glad that he got the procedure he needed. Hopefully they have good infection control processes in place there and he will stay covid-free! Sending healing thoughts!
B'sNukeMom my dad had a pacemaker put in last summer, it was very scary but now it's like he is a new man, alot more energy. Saying prayers for a safe and quick recovery.
New adventure: got a call from my son Sunday, things are fine. He is enjoying making new friends. Spare time they are playing volleyball and other sports, had a cookout. They are safe and bonding. Working hard too, studying and becoming more responsible. What more could a Mom want, sure you son is doing the same. God Bless
B'sNuke Mom - sorry to hear about your father, but glad he received help and then had the pacemaker put in. Prayers for all of you.
New Adventures - even at NNPTC - "No News is Good News" that doesn't make it easier.
So, I am not as concerned about my sailor on his ship currently as I am when they get back into port. They went out to see before all of this started and I honestly don't know if he will have all the new "lock-down" information. He has friends that he normally stays at when not on the ship so I normally mail things there. I have to get his car tag to him but there is logistics with that as well. I found out that the care package I mailed may take 2-3 weeks to actually arise, so I may just send them to my friends and tell him to take his care package on the ship for himself. My concerns are very minor though compared to families who have sailors confined on ships with COVID-19 - You all are very much in my thoughts and prayers.
The Hammer, just talked to my son last night...he’s also in Bremerton, told me his sister sub had gone to 48 hr shifts but his boat is unable to do so since they’ve already taken the galley out. Too hard to carry on 2 days worth of food.....knowing how much food my son can eat that is understandable lol! Otherwise he sounded good, sounds like he and his roommate are being smart and doing what they can to stay safe and healthy. Hoping we ALL stay safe and healthy. One day at a time.
The Hammer, I have been a stay at home mom for years and only wear some make up on Sundays or for special events. My sailor at least always liked the way I looked "all natural" and would often comment about his sisters wearing too much make up. (They are always in good taste.) I never told him that I was just lazy and didn't want to take the time to put it on!! Besides, I was always taking care of one of them.
Everyone have a wonderful day today! Rejoice in all things, and think on that which is lovely, pure and holy!! (Philippians 4). I could "preach myself happy" as one of my former Bible teachers would comment, reading this chapter or the entire book. I am off to put together links to online virtual art museum tours for some of my friends and their children. May you find something to rejoice in and find rest and peace today.
B'sNuke, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad but it sounds like he's doing OK with the pacemaker. I bet you wanted to be there but couldn't. Hang in there, Sea Sister. Sounds like he's getting really good care.
My niece is a nurse practitioner at a hospital in WY and we thought she had COVID. Fever lasting longer than a week and sore throat. But tested negative so that was averted. This is a scary tine.
Watched the Comfort enter NY harbor. So proud of our navy. Prayers for all.
I just got off the phone with my dad - he had a great night and is feeling so much better. Waiting for the dr to come in and release him so he can get back home. Thank you all for the prayers for him.....my dad is one tough cookie and this is frustrating him to be down like this....I'm just so thankful that he is feeling better.
San Diego Zoo has a link to their butterfly webcam - I posted it up above.
Last night my youngest decided he needed a haircut so his GF attempted to cut his hair. This was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time - the haircut didn't come out so well lol. Good thing is no one will see it! We all got a much needed laugh out of it.
NancyJo - I'm so glad your niece wasn't infected....that's got to be a relief.
The Mercy on the West Coast and the Comfort on the East Coast - definitely proud of our Navy!
Keep practicing your social distancing and stay safe everyone!
B's Nuke Mom: Thinking of you and your dad/family--holding you close with good wishes for an amazing recovery.
Practicing gratitude today for this: my son passed his A-School comps yesterday, has a short term "job" during the hold period, and is super excited to start Power School. We had a family Face Time session--he, his brothers and myself--the night before his comps and it was so wonderful to see him so excited and so very happy. I was supposed to leave tomorrow to attend his graduation, but (of course!) that can not happen now. I am sad, but feel so blessed regardless.
My thoughts, prayers, and hopes stay with all of you as we navigate these uncertain waters. Love to you all! Be well!
question for the veteran moms: Last night Big Kid called and asked for a few things in his next care package. One of the items I can only find on Amazon. Can I order it and have it sent directly to him? I'm thinking that will be faster than having it shipped to me to repackage and send to him. He said that they will likely break the record for number of days without a port call.
B'sNukeMom: glad to hear that your dad is doing well.
ShipOfDoodles - Congratulations to your son and NMH to you!!
3B'smom - I would not consider my thoughts on mailing a package to be coming from someone with experience. I am still waiting to see if my sailor received his care pkg I mailed him. But I would say that if you have an address to mail to your son, then by all means ship it straight from Amazon. I read an article today that they have workers striking so I would say the less amount of time something has to be in transit the better, no matter where the to/from is.
B'sNukeMom - so glad you had a good phone visit with your dad. My daughter gave her boyfriend a haircut as well! Thanks for the butterfly link, I will send it to my daughter. I have been "wasting" time figuring out how to 360' on Google maps of art museums and places I visited when I was abroad for a tour after my senior year in HS.
ShipOfDoodles - congrats to your Nuke, and you!! :)
B'sNukeMom - glad to hear that your dad is doing better and will hopefully come home soon - what a relief!
My Nuke is still progressing with his A school classes and we are hoping that they won't be cancelled, so that he can continue on his current trajectory and graduate A school in mid-August. He told us that several of the housing buildings on his side of NNPTC have had their internet/WiFi go down this week, and the cell service is not great in some of the areas, so that may also be why some sailors are not calling/texting as much this week.
ShipOfDoodles2: l've been working and just read everyone's text. Congratulations to you and your Sailor, you must be bursting with pride.
Time must be getting shorter the devil seems to be working overtime trying to destroy us and our relationship with our Creator. Keep the Faith, God Bless and keep you all and our Sailors safe.

Wearing red today. Stay safe all!

Hi everyone - Happy (late) Monday!
The days are just rushing by too fast for me....

Send good thoughts and healing prayers your way.

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!

Hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Time must be getting shorter the devil seems to be working overtime trying to destroy us and our relationship with our Creator. Keep the Faith, God Bless and keep you all and our Sailors safe.
