MSU is where my SIL went to school many moons ago. It is a very good school.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

That would be sister-in-law, not son-in law.

  • Velvetenor

Hi all! Just checking in here to see how everyone is doing!

Chipmunk - glad you got to chat with your sailor, and that he got to wish his sis a Happy Birthday! We also had a Zoom call with my extended family yesterday and my sailor was able to join to wish his younger cousin Happy Birthday. This nephew of mine has idolized my son for years, so he was thrilled that my sailor made the time to celebrate with him!

B'sNukeMoM - Congrats to C on her acceptance to MSU! That is an awesome accomplishment, and the project she is working on sounds very interesting, indeed!

My sailor continues to do well in A school, but he said that classes are getting harder now, and he is having to adjust his study habits a bit. The fact that he has ANY study habits at all is already an improvement, in my books! :) Even though I miss him a lot, I am so very thankful that he is at NNPTC right now, since if he was stuck with us at home in this current situation I know he would be miserable and unproductive - probably doing nothing but playing video games all day - and I'd be stressing more and getting on his case for his inactivity.

Stay safe and have a good week, all! <3

  • Chipmunk

Good afternoon everyone!! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Friday afternoon my daughter cut my hair!! Yeah! I waited till my hubby was home so he could have one last look at my long hair. Time for it to be short through the summer.

Sailor was able to talk to Hubby on Saturday, while I enjoyed being outside on the front porch and put together my two IKEA book cases I had purchased on the way home in Dec from seeing my grandbaby! Then Sunday the family spent some nice time outside - it was good for all of us to just relax.

B'sNukeMom - congrats to C on her internship!! But I know it is hard to have the kids so far away.

Back to work - now I have to rearrange other furniture for the new bookcases!

  • New Adventures

Today is Comps day.  Does anyone know when they find out how they did.  This is the first one for us.

B'sNukeMom-  congrats to C.  MSU is a great school and grad school for "free" is a bonus.

  • ProudOfK

New Adventures - if I remember right I believe they knew by lat afternoon or early evening.

  • New Adventures

That was much quicker than I thought it would be.  Almost perfect score and top of his class!   1 down 2 to go.

  • ProudOfK

New Adventures - that is awesome news. Congratulations to your sailor!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

NewAdventures - BZ to your son on completing A school.  Hopefully he doesn't have too much time off before power school starts.

Yes, MSU is a great school.  Both B & C will be graduating from there in December with their undergrad degrees. This is the icing on the cake for her to get this internship.

Chipmunk - you are braver than me with the haircut lol!

  • Northwoodsmom

Congratulations NewAdventures to you and to your son, Great job on such a high score. Did he start A School in October? Just trying to figure out when mine will graduate. Hoping this time we might actually get to see him.

  • New Adventures

Northwoodsmom-  it was late Oct or first of Nov I do not remember.  Graduated BC in early Oct.  He had the long holidays in there so the number of weeks was a bit longer.

His Power School date has changed a few times.  Fingers crossed it will be soon.  With the lock down he will not have much to do and is not a gamers so.....  He thought he would have a new data again in two weeks when T track starts.

  • Northwoodsmom

Thank you NewAdventures, hopefully he won't have to wait too long.

  • Chipmunk

Velvetenor - Thank you!! I did not see your comment come in as I was posting at the same time and then logging back off. I am glad your sailor was able to say Happy Birthday to his cousin. I think good family role models are some of the best kind. I am glad he is doing well in A school. I had to chuckle at your comment, because playing video games is what my daughter is doing these days. Unfortunately, starting up her own business did not coincide very well with the rest of this economic situation. I remind myself that she never had a summer "off" after she graduated from college like some of her friends and has been in the work force for a couple of years now so she is relaxing, but I have started designating more chores for her to do around the house!

New Adventures - BZ - Bravo Zulu to your sailor!  That is great!! You mention he doesn't do a lot of gaming, does he like to ride a bike or read? My sailor found a bike at the NEX there in GC and rode it around, even at NNPTC until he got a car. Even afterwards, he still rode his bike, and has it with him still. I don't know if they are able to go over to the small Thrift store that is run by some of the military wives, but my sailor found a few books there for his reading pleasure.

Northwoodsmom - There are actually some benefits to T-track, at least I felt like that for my sailor. As I recall, he had about 6 weeks, and in that time frame, he stood watch on many different shift schedules. It was hard, it was also about the only time that I was Helicopter Mom - because his alarm messed up once and he was late getting up once. I started setting my own alarm so that I could text him - I think I only did that once maybe twice, because he quickly told me that his alarms were working now and he had 5-10 more minutes to sleep!!  It helped to get him use to rotation time in Prototype and just recently he has gone back and forth from day shift, to night shift and back again!

ProudofK, NancyJo, JayDee659, B'sNukeMom and everyone else, have a restful evening.

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - I don't think I have paid for a haircut since my youngest was very little!! I wear my hair straight and quit trying to put a perm in it after my pregnancies seemed to affect how they took. I am thankful that I have been able to have my mother-in-law or my girls cut my hair for me. I don't color it, so if something is messed up, I just have to wait till it grows out. I also keep it pulled up a lot, because if I don't the wind in OK has it in my mouth! I make what my youngest termed as a "bunny tail" ( a folded ponytail). Well my bunny tail was growing a long tail on my neck and it was time to cut it short!

  • momterp

That’s great news for your soon-to-be DIL, B’sNukeMoM! It is hard having our kids so far away, especially in these times! We had to cancel a trip earlier this month to see our daughter and son-in-law in Austin (we live in So Cal too)—who knows when they will deem it permissible to travel again!

Glad some of you were able to take care of the hair this weekend. I hope the barbershops open soon because if I have to cut my husband’s hair it will be a hack job for sure!

Stay well everyone and have a great week!

  • Chipmunk

Momterp - I told my daughter that I needed to look at the airlines and see if there were any cheap flights later in the summer to go ahead and book, just so I could make a quick flight to see them. They are in TX as well, but will be moving again. My plans to see my grandbaby every other month is not happening as I had hoped, so now I might have to "double up".

We invested in a good pair of hair clippers years ago and since my husband has been balding as well, it was easy enough for me to just buzz cut him when it got too long. I would do the same for my boys, especially when they were wrestling and on the swim team. My sailor, likes his hair short so he does his own with a pair of trimmers one of his roommates gave him. My youngest chose to start wearing his long and won't let anyone touch it, but I told him that we needed to trim the ends!

    Happy Tuesday!

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!! I hope that you all were able to log in just fine this morning. Ellen0502 posted a note on the BC Mom group last night that there were some glitches in the system and gave instructions there if the system said you were suspended.

It is a beautiful morning and time for me to get busy - have a great day! Looks like nice weather in GC today. For those who are new there, has your sailor started carrying an umbrella yet?  Black is the accessory color and they should be able to find some at the NEX, but I also bought some compact ones at our Wal-Mart when we went to visit. It might be a nice gift to ship with a care package. My sailor has always enjoyed overcast skies with the sun just barely coming through, but he was always amazed at the sudden thunderstorm outbursts.

    Hi all - Happy Wednesday!

Yes, we have been having some site issues since yesterday but we are working on figuring it out.  The system is randomly suspending people and we don't know why!  If you have any issues you can send a message to the Admins (at the bottom of the page) and one of us will get back to you.

Cheryl S - BZ to your son!  Hopefully he'll get to GC soon.  Be sure to read the info to the right - it will give you an idea of what he'll be doing and the time frame for all of it.  What's his rate? EM, MM or ET?

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

There are 3 categories for nukes - Electrician's Mate (EMN), Machinist Mate (MMN) or Electronics Technician (ETN).  They find out towards the end of boot camp which they will be.  They do get to request a choice but at the end of the day it's the needs of the Navy!

  • Chipmunk

Cheryl S. - Congratulations to you, your family and your son!!  A job well done for sure!!

B'sNukeMom - My husband sent me a note this afternoon that some of the area bases are going to do a fly over in our area as a thank you to first responders. I would assume it is similar to this America Strong tour. I always enjoy watching the airplanes flying overhead.

I haven’t checked in for a while. My Nuke is doing well in Norfolk, he just bought a home a few days before his 21st birthday. I couldn’t be more proud these kids really have their act together. My daughter is hospital corpsman on the mercy, but has been quarantined off ship for three weeks she feels fine but still has to quarantine a while longer very proud of her as well, her main concern is getting back to help and she has the antibodies in her blood so her plasma will save lives, that’s the silver lining

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi NickSydmom - thanks for checking in!  That's awesome that your son purchased a home - Happy Birthday to him!  Glad to hear that your daughter is feeling fine and even better that she has the antibodies in her blood to help others.  Yes, that is definitely a silver lining!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Don't forget to wear your RED tomorrow!

  • Chipmunk

NickSydmom - HI!! I have been wondering how things were going? So glad to hear about your sailors!! Glad to hear they are doing well. I had forgotten your sailor was in Norfolk as well. I am sure your daughter will be glad to be back at work as soon as she can be!

  • Chipmunk

Good morning everyone!! I hope your May is starting out very lovely! The sun is shining here, which always makes me happy!! I am sporting my RED for all in the house to see - I don't have any pretty flowers in my yard to share a picture, so looking forward to anyone else that migh have a pretty one to share.

Congratulations to all of our members with brand new sailors!! And to all of our Nukes who may be graduating today.

Hi all!  Happy RED shirt Friday and Happy May Day!  I can't believe it's already May......Seems like April lasted forever.  I hope that May offers some improvement ;-D

I've got my RED on too!

  • New Adventures

My sailor just sent me a pic-  he got his first challenge coin. ( i think that is what they are called)  So proud of him.

  • Chipmunk

New Adventures - Congrats to your sailor on the challenge coin!

  • Northwoodsmom

Hi NewAdventures, I think we got one of those coins delivered federal Express but I don't know what it was for, I just stuck in my son's room, I thought it was a souvenir, I figure when he got leave to come home it would be here for him.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

There's a Challenge Coin group on here - it's not active, but it has some pictures of different coins and it explains the significance of them.  Here's the link if you are interested:

    Challenge Coins

  • New Adventures

Here is what it is.  The challenge coin group does not seem like it has been active in years and mostly talks about buying them at GL for BC.   This was given him by the command.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Honor Graduate!  That's awesome New Adventures.

    BZ to him!

  • SubMom

So May 1 started with frost on the ground here in Michigan. I was definitely not a happy camper. I can say as of yesterday the weather seems to have turned for the better. Hubby and I spent most of the day outside working in the yard. There’s no flowers yet but everything is budding quite nicely. Can’t wait to have a repeat today!! Fresh air and sunshine are definitely great therapy for me. I hope everyone is doing well. Congrats to all the sailors. I hope everyone is safe and healthy.

  • Northwoodsmom

SubMom, I am with you, it was a beautiful weekend and we really needed it to get our spirit up. Took my mom to a nursery and let her pick out a Mother's Day planter before everything was picked over. She was use to having outdoor flowers in Florida and missed them. Hope your Sunday is filled with more Blessings.

  • Chipmunk

SubMom and Northwoodsmom - I would love to come visit your country up north some day, but I will put up with our summer heat, if it means I can have my spring flowers and sunshine!! I did have to turn our A/C on the other day but I am opening windows as often as possible for fresh air.

You ladies have a wonderful day today. Northwoodsmom, it sounds like your parents arrived safely. I know that you have been waiting for them. My mother loved her fresh flowers, and in the fall it was chrysanthemums, in the spring she usually had a geranium pot on the front porch, or petunias.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Hi all - Happy Sunday! Today is my hubby's 60th birthday!  Not quite how we thought we would be spending it, but glad we are able to hang out by the pool and just relax.  I made a nice dinner last night and today he's grilling up his favorite burgers.  His mom, sister and BIL are going to do a surprise drive by to wish him happy birthday.....and we'll spend the day hanging by the pool again.  Thank goodness our weather is warm!

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - happy 60th to your Hubby! Glad you are enjoying your pool!

  • JayDee659

B'sNukeMom happy birthday to your hubby! I was supposed to be on vacation today too. There will be another time.

  • SubMom

B’sNukeMoM - happy belated birthday to you husband!!! It might not be the birthday you had planned but it sounds like it was pretty perfect!

Hi all - Happy Monday and Happy May 4th!

Thanks for the bday wishes for hubby - we did have a nice time hanging by the pool.  The "drive-by" birthday wish was a nice surprise for hubby, but I felt so bad for his mom because you could tell she wanted to hug him so badly, but we kept our distance.  (His mom is going to be 86 in a week!)  Our weather was really nice but this week it's supposed to head towards 100*.  Sounds like another pool weekend - sad that it's only Monday and I'm already thinking about the weekend lol!

Northwoodsmom - glad you got your mom all settled in!

And B&C officially changed the wedding date to 10/4/20.  We are crossing our fingers that things will be back to some sort of "normalcy" (whatever that might be!) by then.

  • Chipmunk

My sailor remembers my b'day because of Star Wars! I don't mind and I don't even mind if he doesn't get a msg to me, especially when I know he is busy, so just knowing he remembers my b'day is okay with me!

I thought I would share my eldest daughter's blessing to me with everyone. A favorite band of hers, that I have come to enjoy had mentioned this and she thought it was a good blessing for my birthday as well. It even echoed some of our pastor's message from yesterday.

UK Blessing - my daughter's song for me

    B'sNukeMom - Your kid's wedding will be on another daughter's b'day!!

  • momterp

Happy birthday, Chipmunk! Hope you have a wonderful day in spite of our current situation!

And belated birthday greetings to your husband, B’sNukeMoM!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Happy Birthday Chipmunk!  I hope you have a wonderful day.  And yes, I'm sure your sailor will be thinking of you ;-D
