Good morning Ladies, I am really trying to stay upbeat but this summer is really starting to suck. They just put my restrictions on base for Goose Creek so my visit in August isn't looking good. Was so looking forward to seeing my son. I am quarantined for 14 days because of the six members of my family testing positive for corvid and my husband can't come home from work because he is compromised so he is using up his points to stay away from me. When it rains it pours. I am still praising God for the work He is doing with my son !  Praying he is Blessing your day as well

  • CSW

Northwoodsmom  hang in there. This, too, will pass. Hoping you and your family stay strong and heal quickly.  We need to help be leaders when the panic rises again and keep everyone focused on God. Bravo Zulus to you and your sailor for keeping the faith and focus!  Have a great Friday and make sure you wear your RED today.

    I've got my RED on!

Northwoodsmom - I hope everyone in your family gets through this ok.

Welcome to our newest member ~ Okkaye303

Please be sure to read the ***NEW MEMBERS*** info at the top of the page.  Lots of good info there.  Also take a look at the Pages (19) to the right under the member profiles - be sure to hit "view all".  And of course, feel free to ask any questions you may have.

  • Northwoodsmom

Thank you B'sNukeMoM and everyone else for your prayers and thoughtfulness. We had two more test positive today. They are young but I do worry about my parents especially my mom she is struggling.

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

Northwoodsmom, I'm holding you and your family in my prayers. So many! Someone must have infected the whole bunch. The good news is most folks come through just fine although it is no fun. Navy Mom hugs!

  • somar

My S just gave me the bad news regarding my trip to GC next week.

  • Northwoodsmom

I am so sorry somar, I suppose I need to cancel mine in August too. No PIR, no visit and probably no A School graduation. I am sad but at least we know the Navy is keeping them safe!

  • Chipmunk

Good afternoon everyone!! - CSW, thanks for the early reminder to wear RED today - I almost forgot as I was working out in my garage today, but I have it on.

Okkaye303 - Welcome to Nuke Moms!! I believe you also joined the BC Mom group. Be sure to introduce yourself over there and let us know how we can help you though the Navy roller coaster of emotions!

Somar and Northwoodsmom - I gather they have halted visitors again to GC?  My son's base and ship is also very restrictive, so I just figured not likely to be able to go see him. I probably couldn't do the sight seeing I wanted anyway. Now, I am trying to decide if I need to make a mad dash across state lines to see my grandbaby again before everyone wants to close things up again.

Northwoodsmom - My heart goes out to you and prayers continue, especially for your mother.

  • 4kidsforfun

So sorry to hear about you all missing your trips to GC although from what I've heard about SC I get it. My son is heading there soon (if all goes as planned!) from GL. His PIR date is 7/10. Assuming they get things under control and the base opens back up, how long does it usually take before we could visit him at GC? We have to go south for a wedding at the end of September and were hoping to swing out to the coast and see him.

And to add to what someone mentioned - there are a lot of nukes coming in a couple of weeks. My son has 25 in his division and another division on his ship has 15... not sure about the other divisions.

  • Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke

The Polar Vortex of many years ago kept me from seeing my son's graduation.  It was horrible.  And it's over.  So don't despair.  It's been such an adventure following my son's career in the Navy.  Looking back, missing the graduation is such a tiny blip on the radar.  It'll be ok.

  • Maggie

    Hello Ladies,

I though I would share this picture I got from my son's advisor.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Beautiful picture Maggie - thanks for sharing!

  • The Hammer

I have airline tickets to go visit my sailor in July but he is working 6 days a week! I told him bo wirries... I'd just hang on the sub with him! (Ha ha)
  • Maestra

It must have been a really spectacular photo op that morning! My son sent this one!

  • Okkaye303

Thanks Chimpmunk for the Welcome. Yes all this is all very new to me. :) Reading and learning.  Excited for my son and the decision he has made. :)  Glad to be here and see all the support. <3

  • Chipmunk

Good Morning everyone!! I have been working on a lot of stuff on the home front while I have longer days, but my morning is already getting away from me.

I loved the pictures ladies - Thanks for sharing and yes - Bug spray is an essential must!!

Okkay303 - you are very welcome!! I am glad you popped on to say hi. It just helps to start making that connection. There is a lot of information on this page and we have members who have gone through every avenue of Navy Nuke life, I think. The restrictions with graduations are affecting our Nukes and families as much as with the BC families so in one sense we are not talking about graduations but we are sharing in the ups and downs of their studying.

So, forgive me for not naming everyone but Bravo Zulu to all of our Nukes and their hard work. I remember my son calling me and telling me what he received on almost each of his tests. It was just a feat of accomplishment. And for my "competitive" son, a test was almost something to be conquered!!

The Hammer - all the best on your trip to see your sailor. Hopefully he can request some leave time to spend with you!!! Just make sure his chit is correct - My sailor had issues with his when we visited last year, because he was working nights and they still do their days as 0800 - 1700 or 1630, I think and so he had a phone call the next morning or something asking why he had not shown up for work!! It all was straightened out, but not fun to deal with at the moment.

KayCee and Marianne - I just wanted you to know I have been thinking about you and your sailor's, especially last Sunday with it being Father's Day.

  • Northwoodsmom

Okkaye303, welcome and glad you joined us. I do not know how far along you are on your journey as I see you are on the Boot Camp site also. The Ladies are amazing , compassionate and encouraging. Their knowledge at times will blow you away, I don't know how they remember so much stuff. God Bless you and strengthen you on new journey.

  • Chipmunk

Good Evening everyone!! I think we have had a few more ladies join both BC Mom and Nuke Moms group this weekend. I am sure that B'sNukeMom will welcome you aboard but I just wanted to say hi.

With the travel restrictions, and no PIR there is a lot of uncertainty about seeing your new sailors or how they will transport them to GC - I just want to remind you that their travel orders are for "your eyes only." that is, if they tell you. Feel free to share after the fact that they have arrived at GC but please remember OPSEC and do not share specific travel dates or information prior to them leaving GL.

Also, since the Nuke's schooling is almost two years long before heading to the fleet their A school experience is a lot different than other things that may be discussed in the BC Mom group, so if you have questions about their time in GC (Goose Creek, SC) at NNPTC and in an apartment during Prototype, please do not hesitate to ask those questions over here on the NUKE Moms group page.

Does anyone that has a very recent sailor arrival to GC know if they are also being put into any sort of quarantine time during INDOC before they class up?  Thanks!! I am just wondering if they were classing up immediately for those ratings that had their class quota or not.

  • Northwoodsmom

Hi, having a really hard time posting today, signed out and then back in to see if that helps.

NavyNukeMom - Welcome Aboard!! I enjoyed your pictures.

Northwoodsmom - Hugs and prayers continue for your family and your mother especially!

Well today is my sailor's 3rd year anniversary and my husband's birthday as well. My sailor is pretty excited, he is halfway and told his father yesterday, it is all downhill from here, no turning back. He was really hoping to be fully qualified by today but it seems that even boards in the fleet have some delays due to the current situation.

For those of you with sailors in T-Track or Prototype, when they are standing watch and changing shifts, often, that is also just part of the learning curve, getting ready for the fleet. I do believe shifts are even longer and probably harder for those on subs - but I know my sailor's shifts and work days seem to be longer than other rates on his ship. And he had done a few cycles of flip-flopping from days to nights back to days. And then there is split, I think. I don't recall all of them, but it is a challenge and I appreciate all of them!

  • SubMom

My heart goes out to all of you that are having  to cancel plans to visit your sailors in GC. I do have to say that I love the suggestion of hanging out in the sub that The Hammer proposed
    Northwoodsmom -
I hope and pray things settle down for you and your family. Just remember God’s got this!

Hi all - Happy Tuesday!  Sitting here waiting for my doctor to call for my "video conference" appointment.....my how things have changed lol!

  • NancyJo (NNPTC)

B'sNuke, no kidding! My radiation oncologist released me over the phone, and my last follow-up with my oncology surgeon was over the phone. We live in strange times. I hope this appointment is nothing serious!

  • Chipmunk

B'sNukeMom - Thoughts for you this morning!

SubMom - I agree - "hanging out as a fly on the wall" on our sailor's ships or boats, or in their classroom would be a wonderful thing!!

Northwoodsmom - Prayers for you and your family!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Thanks ladies - appointment done.  My cholesterol is finally under control (with meds) but I'm now officially considered diabetic.  Been trying to get it under control with diet and exercise but no such luck - so she'll start me on meds for it.  Ugh!  I try to watch carbs as much as possible but it's hard.  I really need a personal chef lol!  It sucks getting old..... ;-D

  • Tx Mom of Far Away Nuke

B'sNukeMom - I had great success in lowering my blood sugar levels by doing something called Intermittent Fasting (IF).  I only eat between noon and 6 pm.  I skip breakfast and after one week, I hardly notice the missed meal anymore.  IF is great for reversing metabolic syndrome.  I was able to avoid being put on Diabetic meds at my last visit because of IF.  It's great for losing weight.  It doesn't cost you anything extra.

    :)

  • bigsky21

B’sNuke I feel your pain....been struggling with BG numbers for a couple years now. The only time I was able to sustain a “normal” A1C was when I did keto for about 6 months, but it’s not a long term solution. I’m having a really hard time right now, not sure why.....maybe I’ll try the IF TX Mom suggests. AND I have menopause going on, so I’m a mess lol! Asked my doc if there’s a correlation between my high BG numbers and my whacky hormones, but he didn’t seem to think so. I’m not so sure....

  • JayDee659

bigsky21 you said "he" when referring to your doctor, so of course he doesn't think there's any correlation!  Ha.

I tried IF and never got serious results.  I love food so much my body retains everything!

B'sNukeMom, I did my follow-up with my rheumatologist via video.  It's different but efficient.  I like NOT having to sit in a waiting room :)

  • helena2000

I just had my annual physical last week and labs the week before that, and it was nice getting my blood drawn while sitting in my car. The visit was pretty much normal, just me wearing a mask and everyone wearing ppe in the office. I had my rheumatology visit in April, and other than spacing out chairs in the waiting area and Dr. wearing gown, etc. it was normal. Maybe by this fall my next visit will be online. I still have to do labs, though. Luckily, my family doctor is just down the road from me and they're in the same network, so sometimes they could draw blood for labs.

I've tried different diets in hopes of not developing diabetes and to help with my RA inflammation, but not sure what works yet. I know I eat too much in the evenings, but maybe IF would help if I don't eat too much during that small window.

  • bigsky21

JayDee, I’ve been seriously thinking about going to see a female doc....up until now I’ve been happy with my doctor but I don’t think he “gets” what’s going on with me. Not his fault, I just think a female would have a better grasp...an OLDER female, like me :D

Thank goodness it's a short week - we are off on Friday for the 4th of July.

  • Gigi

    Good morning Ladies,

    Yay, I’m off Friday too!

My name is Gigi, very new to this group. Was actually joined since the beginning of my son’s journey in BC about 8 weeks now. But wasn’t active here (but visible in BC group)  for I didn’t  even know if my son will make it through BC. (LoL)

And yes! He made it! PIR was last Friday. Me and hubby flew to Chicago hoping to catch him at the airport before heading to GC but no luck, no reunion happened.

So I’m official, a real “Nuke Mom” for 3 days now.  Him and his group arrived GC Monday. Was able to FaceTime too (and few of them).  Will start the school on Monday, no quarantine (they flew privately) and they are also off on Friday. Will BBQ.

My son’s Nuke rate is ET.

    Have a great day all.

  • Northwoodsmom

Good morning Ladies, just want to take a moment to thank you all so much for your powerful prayers for my family. They had to put my mom on a ventilator but this morning we got good news that her stats look good. The younger ones are starting to come out of it but still the older ones are struggling. I am taking care of my dad who is showing signs of improvement also. Pray that God keeps me strong so I can keep taking care of him. This is some really nasty stuff, please stay safe and thank you all again for your prayers. God Bless and protection.

  • ProudOfK

Gigi - congratulations to your nuke. Mine is also an ET - been on a carrier for a year and a half already.
B’sNuke - enjoy your 4th. I work 4 10 hour days so always have Friday off so our 4th holiday is tomorrow. So today is my Friday this week. Looking forward to the 4 day weekend.
Northwoodsmom - hang in there. Hope things start looking up.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Gigi - hopefully you've had a chance to look at all the pages to the right (19).  There's lots of good info there as to what you and your nuke can expect during the pipeline.  Just remember to take it one day at a time - and no matter what happens, it isn't the end of the world!  Feel free to ask any questions you might have and someone should be able to provide you with an answer.

Northwoodsmom - oh no :(  I'm glad to hear that your moms stats are looking good.  Hopefully she will come off the ventilator soon.  Praying for a speedy recovery for all your family members.

  • Chipmunk

    Good afternoon everyone!!

So my sailor called me yesterday when I was at the resale store shopping for grandbaby clothes! He asked if he could sing and I said yes!! He sang a portion of a song about being halfway there!!! He is very hyped that he is halfway through his commission and sees a light at the end of the tunnel!! Three more years to go!

Gigi, Northwoodsmom and ProudOfK - Good to hear from you!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Awwww Chipmunk - that is so sweet!

Hi Everyone! I am new to the group! My son is currently in boot camp and set for PIR 7/10, He will be headed to GC, Super excited for him! I am sad that I wont see him graduate. I'm not sure when the best time to go a visit him at GC, I know the base is not open right now but didn't know if the base was open when is the best time to go? I'm not sure what his job is yet. I'm sure I will find out soon. I am from Houston and we just moved last week to Rockport TX, Looking forward to connecting with other moms!

  • Chipmunk

Hi Khryse - I am glad you introduced yourself over here. We have two TX moms on one day, that is great!! I have a really early morning so I will do my best to connect with you tomorrow or maybe someone else will reply. The weekend is a good time for a visit to GC, Fri eve. or Sat. they have more free time, otherwise, they are in class or studying a lot.

    Happy July 4th!!

In honor of my son:  Lee Greenwood's - God Bless the USA

one of his favorite patriotic songs. While he is spending the day working, hubby, youngest child (son) and I will be sharing a day at our family's favorite amusement park. It is a bittersweet day.

  • khryse

    Happy 4th Everyone!

There was a statement made on the BC page about A and B Nukes. I answered with I thought this might be when they take the ASVAB they can qualify as Alpha or Bravo. Chipmunk said it might be good to discuss this here.
When my son took the ASVAB in October 2019 the recruiter told him he qualified Alpha. I'm still not 100% sure what it means. Any ideas if this makes a difference?
