this comment section is a little hard for me to follow. I guess I'm a bit old school, but I am really wanting to know how to follow the discussion part.

  • Seahawks12

NavyMomThrower - It seems like no one has commented in a few days.  As far as I know you would just comment here.

    Have a good weekend!

  • DsMom2020

There don’t seem to be a lot of posts other than the very informative and/or inspirational posts in the form of photos by B’sNukeMom. Unlike a typed comment, you can’t see/read it in the email notification you get - you must log in.

That being said, if you log in from your mobile device, it is hard to navigate. To make it easier, go the dropdown at the top right of the screen (after you sign in), and click on DESKTOP VIEW. much easier to view the comments thread. Hope that helps!

NavyMomThrower -  Are you able to see DsMom2020 and Seahawks12 respond to your question?  Sometimes I have to sign back in when I have not been on for a few weeks. I still feel like I am new to all of this.  It's been a year since my son entered bootcamp and now he just started PowerSchool in GC. We are here to help!!

NavyMomThrower - I'm sorry but I didn't see your comment until now.  It's been a busy week :-)  Personally, I don't post a lot here any more because my son is in the fleet, and there's not much to say.  But I do login some to see if there are questions I can help with about Nuke School.

I hope you'll reach out if you have questions or need encouragement!  <3

Thank you!! Working my way around the site. Great info available! My son is headed to BS post August 1 graduation. We are trying to gather any housing information we can as their housing brief has been cancelled twice. Info is much readily available if he were staying in GC. Trying to find the same for BS. Any guidance is appreciated!

    Good Morning and Happy Wednesday!

    Happy Wednesday - Valentine's Day

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Momof1 - B lived in the "Winners Circle" in Saratoga Springs.  Lots of Navy people lived there. Nice places.  I bumped the discussion up above for prototype housing. Take a look at that.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Momof1 - the discussion that I bumped up above is actually for South Carolina.

    Hello from France!

Here is my nukeVet contemplating Omaha Beach at Normandy. We hope to visit the CERN Hadron Collider, near Geneva, later today.

  • Chipmunk

Canuka - Enjoy your time with your son!!

Momof1 - my son was in GC for Prototype, hopefully B'sNukeMom's info will be helpful. He will need to be able to deal with getting electricity and other utilites set up for his apartment and for my son that was a challenge as he did not have a credit card for them to be able to do a credit check on him as I recall.

I am not sure how the NFCU credit card works differently than most, but my son claims that he is able to "pay ahead" on his card, so he only uses it for major purchases and then he pays on his card, so that he never has to worry about a late payment, but also is using it more like a debit card than purchasing something which he later has to go back and pay for. - If that makes any sense at all.

  • Chipmunk

Anyway, my point, my son never thought he wanted a credit card, he had never purchased his own vehicle at that point, he had been given a car by a family member. So, he applied for the NFCU credit card, mostly so that he could have some sort of credit score for getting the electricity set up.

His roommates all shared various expenses, but that also became an issue when they did not all leave at the same time after Prototype graduation.

Today is B’s birthday. Hard to believe my son is 36!

  • Momof1

B’sNukeMom - Happy Birthday to your son!!!

CanukaVet - wow, exciting!! Enjoy your adventures.

Chipmunk - yes, this all makes sense. Thank you for the info. Fortunately we added my son as an authorized user on one of our credit cards years ago so that it gave him credit “history” even though he didn’t use the card. My parents did that for me and it made all the difference since sometime no credit is as bad as bad credit. He also has the NFCU card which was a lifesaver when his back home bank card decided to stop working one day. Great cash rewards on the NFCU card.

Thankfully, one of our son’s friends will be headed to BS with him and has been doing housing research I found out. I did send over the winners circle info that B’sNukeMom provided. Appreciate all of you jumping in to help a momma out. Happy Thursday!

Thanks Momof1!  We were able to FaceTime with B and his family so that was nice - he had a good day!

Back to the Ballston Spa conversation, I believe your son will really like it there.  B enjoyed his time there - he was there just over a year.  We were fortunate to be able to visit him twice while he was there.  The area is very nice - and we were able to make a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame which made hubby happy!  I know that B and his buddies did a train trip into NY City for a long weekend and they really enjoyed that.  There's also the horse races there in Saratoga.  They weren't happening either time we were there but B's little brother visited him in August and they were able to go to the races. They all said that was fun.  It gets cold and lots of snow but B (as a born an raised CA boy) said it never bothered him lol!

  • Chipmunk

Momof1 - You are welcome! And I had never thought about adding a child to a credit card to help them with their credit. We have 5, so it wasn't something we really thought about.

B'sNukeMom - Happy Belated Birthday to B!! Cute picture.

Happy First Day of Summer! - ILoveUSA.com | First day of summer, Summer, Summer pictures

  • Momof1

Chipmunk - I would imagine with 5, there was much more on the brain! I do try to pass that tip along to folks with teenagers in the household though because I benefited from it and saw the positive impact it had on our son and it’s such an easy thing we can do for them in a world of hard things on the regular.

Happy First Day of Summer!!! Good and steamy in this part of the world 🥵

B’sNukeMom - so glad to hear B had a good day and birthday! I truly believe my son will enjoy BS as well! Everybody thinks he’s crazy to want to leave GC but he is a winter boy at heart. Loves all things cold and snowy. We took him and his best friend to Colorado for his senior trip last year and he’s still talking about it! Loves loves loves it. He’s excited and I’m excited for him because the boy he was a year ago is not the man he is today and he would have said no way to a change of scenery when he was settled in and comfortable. I’m happy he’s making the move and will share all of this information with him. Thanks so much for sharing! Y’all have a great day!

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Momof1 - these pictures were taken during 2 visits to B in Ballston Spa.  Same location - the one on the left was April of 2014 (and I had dark hair lol!) and the one on the right was when we went for Prototype graduation in January 2015.

  • Momof1

Oh my goodness!!! Love the pictures. Thanks for sharing!! My son is going to have a field day there it looks like. Especially since he will get fall and winter, his two favorites!

Just want to share a funny incident regarding credit cards...  My son was underway, and they stopped in Florida for two weeks.  He tried to rent a car using Apple Pay, but the rental place requires a physical credit card to rent a car.  He had not brought his physical card on the sub, but he remembered that when he moved to Groton, he used Apple Pay to rent a UHaul.  So he went to UHaul in Florida and rented a cargo van for two weeks.  LOL
