mrsb, i hope you are home safe now and with your 'greyhound children'. I can imagine how disapointed you must be to only see your sailor for a short time. I would be too. So sad the switch didn't work but it is something we can all learn from your experience. It all doesn't work out the way we want. Like you said, thank God you were able to see him, even if for a short while. Thank you for the picture! I love it!!!!!
First I wanted to express how sorry I am ProudNavyMom19 that your son and our Sailor's are affected by this mess that the politicians have created. So unfair.
Sharon:Congratulations to your Sailor! My husband and I will actually be traveling to San Diego to attend our son's graduation from Boot Camp at MCRD/Marine Core Recruit Depot on 10/18! We are also counting the days. Their BC is 13 weeks, a long time!
armynavymom: Congratulations! That's wonderful he had such a short wait, lucky young man!
Welcome back mrsb, I know you missed all your pups! Awww the pics were so darn sweet of you and your son. I love the blueberries too, he looks so handsome. Kevin showed us his on Skype and I was just turn this way, turn that way, let me see you with your hat on....he complied and just smiled the whole time. You look so happy standing next to your Sailor, I know it was difficult because of his schedule. But now you can reflect and cherish all those memories you were blessed to make.
Thanks Kevsmom and ProudNavyMom!! I sure loved seeing him, wasn't nearly enough time with him, but I will cherish it anyway!! Sure was tired last night and today so stayed home from work, trying to catch up-Ha! Seems I never catch up!! Anyway, it's good be home again, with my "little" doggies!
Just had our son's friend over for dinner. He leaves Monday to recruiter and MEPS, Tuesday (his bday) for BC. They joined together, but his entry was held up because he will be a nuke, and I guess there is a waiting list to get in! He is pretty excited and ready to go, as our son was 4 months ago.
Today my Sailor and I had FaceTime! It's like skype but easier to use. Tears were just flowing from my eyes with joy at seeing him for the first time since PIR 6/7! I could not stop the tears from flowing!!! HAHAHAHA He gave me an all around tour of his room and Kept making funny faces because he could hear me clicking away with the camera feature. I didn't post the goofy ones. They are for me only. (BIG GRIN) God bless him and all our Sailors. He is very happy in Groton and is ACU, Awaiting Class Up, for Techno. I love that boy so much!!!!! I am so proud of him!!!! He is very grateful to you mrsb for taking him out for dinner! I hope you all get the pics attached. There might be a delay in posting the pics as they have to be approved first by the web owner. SO HAPPY!!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!!!!
ProudNavyMom#1 - your pictures are cool and you both look so happy! I need to learn how to face time with my son. We are both just so busy but we will get it.
Now you can see him more often. WOW. Congratulations to you and yours on your son's service to our country. He looks so young to be the man he is!
ProudNavyMom#1- so happy for you to get to "see" you son! I love face time! We try to do it every couple of weeks with our son. It is so good to be able to see their room and where they live. We all gather around the ipad and talk to him together. He has a younger brother, 12 and sister, 14' and they miss him so much! It's the next best thing to getting to see them in person:)
Crap, can't figure out why it shows up sideways here, file is not sideways! Anyway, my son's friend Michael, will celebrate his birthday on the 15th by heading to bootcamp, and then on to nuke school.
Hello Mommas! I haven't been on for a while but very glad to see that all our Sailors are happy and doing well. Congratulations to all the Sailors who just graduated and the ones who will be graduating in the coming weeks. Looking at all the pictures I must say your Sailors are handsome!!!
mrsb. I'm so happy for you for being able to visit your son. That's a great picture! You look so Happy and Proud! Your son looks like my son!
Kevsmom93 Have a safe trip to your son's Marine Bootcamp Graduation! Congratulations to your son and to you! You made it thru another BC! I was wondering, the Marine moms have a great site like this?
ProudNavyMom#1 Your pictures are awesome, both of you look so Happy! Facetime is great!
Annette Congrats to your Sailor on his BESS Graduation and to his friend heading to BC!
My Sailor sent me this picture, I thought it was hilarious so I wanted to share it.
My dear friends, thank you all for your kind words and sharing my joy. I knew you would understand how precious this call was to me! HAHAHA!!
We actually have FaceTime dates now, on Sunday!!!! Praise God!!!! HAHAHA My Son realizes how much I treasure seeing him while talking to him and asked me if Sunday would work for me. Sunday football, move over!!! HAHAHA Not that the Texans are doing well, but I do enjoy a good football game!
You know i will drop everything to talk to my Sailor! Can't wait!
Oh, and my youngest daughter and I made him a care package today with lots of his goodies!!! He will not get them until next week though :/ But i sure can't wait to hear from him when he gets it!!! :-)
I hope you all have an awesome long weekend as well! God bless.
Hello NAVY Mom's - I have been out of our Mom-loop too! So nice to be back and "hear" all about your adventures, graduations, new journey's, face-time and to see pictures of your precious children.Congratulations and God speed to ALL. ProudNavyMom I TOTALLY understand your excitement and tears of joy to actually SEE your son. I will have to try out this face-time stuff. Our son is ACU for Techno too! In all of the buzyness preparing for our trip to Groton I neglected to get all of your last names through private message. I apologize! I am so very happy that mrsb did though! I am so sorry we missed meeting your son -we were so close! Our plan was to meet up with other Groton loved ones and Sailors for pizza din din. We missed it! Driving into Connecticut traffic was crazy that Friday evening! We did not get to the base until almost 9 p.m.I hope it all went well. YES, God bless ALL of our Sailors! I did get to hug a few Sailors there in Groton this past weekend. My husband and I had chow with them on Sunday a.m. - totally awesome young men. They were all so gracious to allow me to give them a Mom-hug - they were so very sweet about it. I am thankful. Yes, more tears were involved. All good!
To ALL of you Navy-Mom-Friends, have a wonderful, safe weekend! Big hug! Hooyah! Thanks for being there...here!
FATHOMOM, so good to see your post and know you were there!!! HAHAHA What a blessing that you saw your Sailor! :-) To think that all the Sailors you saw were probably so ready to receive a Mom Hug and welcomed yours!!!! Lord, makes my heart rejoice!!! I know my Sailor would appreciate you, he doesn't say it, but we ar all hugers!!!! :-) Thank you for sharing your experience with us. Oh, How was the line for chow? You probably didn't notice how long it was because you were enjoying your Sailor!!! HAHAHAHA Wonderful!!!! God bless
ProudNavyMom - Toooo funny! The Saturday a.m.chow line was short one - cuz we were eating late. The Sunday a.m. chow line was long....they were making custom omelets. Mom's our son's are eating well. Above the chow line painted on the wall says "Through these doors are the best fed Sailors in the NAVY".....or something very similar. They have quiet a few choices. I did notice that there is always ACTIVIA yogurt available! There may be a small decrease at end of month, I am sure it is a food budget thing, but our Sailor loves his chow! Oh, to see all of those faces at chow! Looking at ALL of them really did bring a tear to my eye's thinking of how much their families are missing these awesome young men. Totally thinking like a Mom while I was looking around - Oy! The Sailors looked great! Fine young men on their NAVY journey. God bless and guide ALL of our Armed Forces.
I have a question that's probably been asked before but here goes anyway! When the base closes at Christmas does the time the sailors take off come out of their leave? I mean, they have no choice but to go somewhere! Just wonderin!!!
Yes, they have to use their leave. While classes and other things are shut down, the base is still operational, galley remains open as do other amenities, plus the exchange and commissary (except on the holidays themselves). It's like being in college, you can choose to go home or not. But they do have to use leave.
I need to remember to check my "other" facebook messages when I get home so I can order something for my son's birthday. Seems they block facebook here at work-darn!!
I'm wondering if anyone will be at the BESS graduation tomorrow? My son is a distinguished graduate and I'm hoping someone could take pictures for me. Thanks.
OklahomaMam - I hope you found someone to take pic's for you. Congratulations on BESS graduation. Now your Sailor can relax a little while ACU.
Annette - It was a nice luncheon, sorry you missed it. It IS cool to put faces to the names we chat with all of the time. Nice to share stories about our Sailors and learn so much about what goes on in the Sailor world. Glad to hear that your brother is doing ok, moving forward. I keep him in prayer.
mrsb - My Sailors birthday is at the end of this month. I just ordered a super large chocolate chip cookie from Annette's niece. She is a sweet and helpful young woman. She will graciously deliver it ! I will let you know when our Sailor receives it! Her info. is on Annette's page. Thanks for the info. Annette.
fathomom, I did the same thing!!! Great minds think alike!! What day is your son's birthday? You probably told me but I forget! :) Mine's is November 1st, an All Saint's Baby!! Only two weeks away too! I'm going to send his birthday card to Annette's niece so she can give that to him at the same time. Sort of like at home, only 3000 miles away!
Thanks Annette! I hope your niece gets lots of business!!! We really do appreciate what she does! :)
Ah ladies, Kristen is so thrilled to do this! She loves delivering and seeing the sailor's reactions. Next Thursday is Dennis's birthday, and she already has a cake planned for him. She takes a pic of the sailor with the cake, so I hope you will share with us! She is just such an awesome person. When her husband was deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, you should have seen the packages she put together, and always for him to share with everyone in his unit. She's a special lady. I know she is happy to take requests for other occasions, or no occasion at all, just because!
You know, I would probably do the same thing if I were near a base. What a great way to help out. :) I can't wait to see the picture and of course I'll share!!
My son's birthday is Nov 7 and I'm going to get him a cake too!! I'm thrilled that I have a way to do this for him. It's wonderful that she does this!!
Mrsb....very nice picture of you and your sailor. My son just arrived in CT last Saturday. I wrote down the restaurants you mentioned so I can tell him when he calls next. He loves pizza and BBQ. Does it ever get any easier saying "goodbye" to our sons? I had such a short time with him after PIR. I was very greatful for the time I had but my heart is so heavy now. Financially I don't know when I will have an opportunity to see him again :( I am hoping he knows the process of applying for leave for Christmas. I would love to spend Thanksgiving with him but that isn't really an option. God is good.... I won a 50/50 drawing at work for $500 which allowed me to go see him graduate at GL... :)
Thanks lenrose! Your son will like it in Groton-at least he will be used to the cold weather. My son is a California boy and it doesn't get very cold here in the winter! I did crochet him a scarf to wear, hopefully that will help. No, I'm afraid it doesn't get easier saying goodbye. I was so anxious to see him when we were there a few weeks ago I started crying before I got out of the car; and if I think about him too much I tear up. It is hard having him/them so far away but I think we have to get used to it. When they are on a boat it will be much worse I'm afraid! At least now you can talk to your son way more than at BC. Skyping is really good too, then you can see him as well. Congrats on the $500-that's awesome!!! God watches over us, as you well know!
Hello Navy Mommas! This site is a Blessing! It is so awesome to see how Navy moms help out each other. Annette, your niece is wonderful, making all the goodies for our Sailors.
