juliebelle28 (NukeMom ET 1233MT)  thank you going to check them now thanks again woo hoo

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Thanks Renee, My mom has COPD and Parkinson's among many other things. They are having a hard time getting her blood levels in the okay range. She is on Coumadin and has to go to the Dr every Thursday. My Dad is diabetic and is in remission from Prostate Cancer. I worry about them all the time and do as much as I can to help them out. If anyone here likes to pray please add them to your prayer list. I really appreciate it. :-)

  • ReneeBC

    Lala,

You have your hands full, but I bet your parents are so grateful for such a wonderful, caring daughter.  It is a blessing that you are able to care for your folks.  I am familiar with INR cks (my dad).  It can be hard to manage diabeties and other meds, though remission is such a gift. (I look for those silver linings wherever I can see 'em!)   You can count on prayers from this neck of the woods!

  • diannep

Lala:  Will do....your plate is full with your parents' situation, for sure.  I know the feeling...on our knees for all of our parents!

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

Lala - I will keep your mom and dad in my prayers.....you and your family too!

  • smokie (ship12 Div 203)

raeveness, Thanks for the info from your daughter. My son graduates also 6/29. Any info I get helps. Happy you got letters and hope we all get calls. Be proud and strong

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

Ok ladies......after 5 weeks and 2 horrible letters, today I got a positive letter from my son!!!!  I was so happy to hear that he is doing well and enjoying himself!!  He was even joking about how he fell asleep in class for 20 seconds and got IT'd by himself for 30 minutes!!  I love it!!!  It made my whole week.  YEAH!  I am so happy!!!!

  • smokie (ship12 Div 203)

ReneeBc , Great list. He sounds like he has a good sense of humor that will get you thru anything even BC. Be proud he is strong

  • smokie (ship12 Div 203)

mareluc, We are getting closer. Glad you got a letter. They are tough. They will be so proud when they become sailors. Then they can look back at BC. Now you can sleep good tonight

  • ReneeBC

    Smokie,

Thanks! He's very quiet, but when the opportunity arises, he's quite funny. (He does impersonations of past presidents, even FDR and JFK.  As for those in recent memory or the last 20 yrs, my son is an equal opportunity offender!)

How are you?  Did you get a letter from A. this week?  You haven't been on much this week and I was thinking abt you.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Thanks so much everyone, you guys made me cry. It is good to have friends who understand what you are dealing with, I appreciate all of you greatly.

mareluc i am so glad you finally got a positive letter. It warms you heart doesn't it :-)

Some friends and I have started a group on facebook that is private. You can come to our group and we will be there to answer questions when you need us and you can post comments and meet other friends there who also have recruits at bootcamp. I am trying to figure out if you have to be a facebook friend of mine in order to join the group. So if anyone would like to join this group whether you have a recruit in bootcamp or you are a mom who has been through it already and would to help let me know. try this link and see if it will let you request to join. If not let me know on here and I will add you as a friend on facebook to get you into the group.   https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/  I hope it works :-) You just have to promise to come to this page daily and post comments and let others know how you are doing ;-)

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

Lala - the link does work - just sent request

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

smokie - yes I will be sleeping well tonight!

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Hi ladies, I was spending the day with my daughter so didn't get a chance to check in  on here.  She is only home from college for just a couple of more days, so I may be scarce.  We went to tea today and saw a movie.  Tomorrow we are taking the train to Wash, DC and going to the National Zoo and maybe time permitting, go to one of the Smithsonian buildings.  I'll try to check in when I can.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

    Awesome thanks mareluc!!!

For anyone on this site who has a LinkedIn account. I saw on the news today that their member info was hacked and passwords and other info compromised. They said if you have a LinkedIn account you should change your password immediately. Just thought I would share because I know many of you are on that site.

  • tatmom4rc(Ship12, Div. 204)

Lala - we will pray for you and your family.  Take care.

  • diannep

EHarmony was compromised the same way as Lala said LinkedIn was...so you need to do the same thing if you have an account with them.

  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

Another upbeat letter from my SR in 814.  "It's a good time here for me.  I feel like I've had some time to just get to know me."  My SR writes a lot of details about people in his division but not too much on the protocol and daily routines.  My SR is such a easy going people person that the daily drill is just something that has to be done.  From what he is telling me 814 is really pulling it together and forming some friendships that will hopefully carry on when they hit their SPECOPS training.

  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

aespriggle, Do you have the link for the FB group?

  • ReneeBC

    mom of 11,

Remember to message privately concerning your 800 boys.  :)    Perhaps you could exchange email addresses.

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

    Thanks Julie...he made my day!

  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

I don't mind messaging privately but  I am a little confused as to what I said that needs to be private?? And I don't know who I am suppose to message??

  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

I know what the 800 division is. I'm just not clear on what I posted that could cause issue or risk security for anyone. Earlier in this group it was strongly recommended that we do not use fb,but now you recommend it. Should the 814 discussion group be deleted also? Then how do we find other moms from 814?
  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

    Sorry, but I am confused...
  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

No, it should not be deleted. We have some very competent veteran moms on our 800 Division Discussions and they have instructed the new moms early on on what best to do about posting...also about FB groups and their observations on what they have seen over there ...just like you said mom of 11. You are fine...and so were your postings...it was generic with out specific details...but let others know that you have heard from your SR and that "all is well".

SPECOPS Members - Just follow what the more experienced moms have advised you about here as well as any other groups you are on. Keep your profile pic anonymous, no names, non-detail filled posts. I would also make your Profile pages viewable only to your friends. I'll post how to do that shortly.

NOTHING is ever totally secure. We outline the site rules and give you cautions to help you out...That is our goal.

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

    On "Friending"...

When you get a request and the person does not "look" familiar...or you have never seen their Username before...click on their username and go to their Profile page and see if they are active on the site etc. If their page it private...then you could enter their username into the N4M's search engine and any posts they have made will come up so that may spark "who" they are.

Usually the person sending a Friend Request adds dialogue to the request. It is limited to 200 characters and disappears when you accept their request. Here is what I do so as not to lose it just in case it was an important question.

I highlight the dialogue,Copy it by right clicking and choosing "Copy", accept the friend request, then click (this is a left click and so I don't lose the Copy) their username to go to their page. When there I left click "Send a Message" underneath their profile pic. You will get a messaging box. I then right click within it (sometimes it takes a couple of right clicks) and "Paste" it in. Now I have it so I can answer it!

How to change your Profile Page settings:

How to change your Privacy Settings, Username, Picture and URL

You can make your Profile Page (My Page - third tab over at the very top under the N4M banner) viewable only to your friends. There are other privacy settings too.

Click "Settings". “Setttings” is over to the far right underneath your username where you sign out of N4M's.

It will take you to your Profile page where you can change your picture, username, “about me” comments etc.

To the left on your Profile Page is a list.

Click Privacy. It will take you to your “Privacy Settings” Page.

Under “Visibility” (the very top of the list) the first item is:

My profile page and friends can be viewed by...

    O Anyone

    O Members

    O Just My Friends

Choose "Just My Friends"…then go ahead, read through and change the rest your settings to how you would like them.

You can also change your Profile Picture, username, URL (web address...this fills with whatever name you used to originally sign up with N4M's. Some use their real name... change their username...but not their URL and so it is still visible), About me info etc., on the first page that popped up when you clicked "Settings".

Since last names of Recruits/Sailors are not allowed on the N4M website...it's good to change it there as well.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

To be honest i don't think facebook groups are really more secure than this group. Some of them are allowed to post first and last names on open public pages. That doesn't seem very secure to me at all. Everyone should just be careful no matter where they are. The most important thing is to never ever discuss Ship Movement on a website or social media page. You never know who is on the group page even if it is set to private. Most of the time people ask to join and they are accepted. Who knows if the really have a son or daughter at bootcamp. That would be easy to fake. So the best practice is to not say anything that you could not plaster on a billboard for the world to see.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Good morning everyone, I hope you all have a wonderful fun-filled Saturday. We are having a yardsale today so I will be back later this afternoon. I would love to Sell out so I can come back sooner lol.

  • mom of 11 ship 04 div 814

Thanks for all the helpful hints!!

  • diannep

I totally agree with what Lala said about Facebook privacy. Accounts are hacked into often there.  The last names worry me too.

  • mareluc(Ship11/Div196/PIR 6/29)

Did you notice the countdown clock above.......we are now in our teens.........yippie!

  • marcyl(Ship11Div197)

Lala.. Got my ribbon and magnet! They're beautiful! Thank You so much. Can't wait to wear it in 19 Days!!!!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Thanks so much marcyl; I am so glad you love your PIR ribbons and your Navy Mom window decals :-)

I am back from the yard sale, you will be happy to know that i was smart this time and stayed in the shade lol. I did not however sell out so I guess I will do it again next Saturday. I see this group has a new member, another veteran lol, I promise eventually the newbie members will outweigh the veterans on this page :-)

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

When it rains, it pours :-( If you received an email from me (regular email from uniquememorymakers@yahoo.com, not this sites emails/messages)  it would have had a weird weird link on it. DO NOT open the link. I didn't send it and it could be a virus. I am so sorry for any inconvenience this could have caused and of my friends. I get these emails all the time so I know not to open them. But I guess somehow I got a virus from it. Don't open it and you will be fine. I never send links like that in an email. I would only send you a link to my website or facebook page and that would be in the middles of a real message that you can tell is from me. Thanks

  • proudmom

Wow! I was counting the days and we are only 19 days from my daughters PIR ceremony!
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

In the teens YAY YAHOO HAPPY DANCE TIME :-)

  • TenaciousDee

Went to the local Surplus store and bought a Navy Flag for the house! I also had to get a Marine one for my son's best friend who graduated from bootcamp last Friday. I'm so proud of these boys. They have been best friends since 3rd grade and I'm glad that they have kept on the right track and stayed focused and did what they have always wanted to do!

  • Twinzplus1(Ship 12, Div 203)

I'm confused and I hope someone can shed some light...I just realized that the Navy Lodge and Navy Gateway Inn are not he same thing. When I made reservations I just went to the DOD website so I ended up with Navy Gateway Inns. Does anyone know the difference? Which is the best place to stay?
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Twinzplus, I think they are very similar. The main difference is you cannot stay or make a reservation at the gateway Inn without military ID and I believe it is actually located on one of the bases up there. FTLW may have a lot more info on that.

  • diannep

Twinzplus1:  Can you cancel that reservation and make it at Navy Lodge?  I believe that Lala is correct on needing military ID for Gateway, but your sailor's info will suffice for Navy Lodge.  Yes, FTLW may have more info.  Her hubby is military too so she knows about things like this!

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Lala, did you post any pictures of your decals on your FB page?  Are they the kind that you can peel off the window without problems?  I would love to order one if they are.

Tenacious Dee, I wish we still had a surplus store.  Ours have all closed.  Maybe I can order one online?  Although I think my husband will probably kill me if I ask him to put up another flag bracket on our porch, lol.

  • ellen0502

Twinzplus, the Navy Gateway is on base and someone in your party and staying there must have a military ID. The Navy Lodge is not on base, but located in the family housing area and the reservation is made in your SRs name.

If you call the Navy Lodge to make a reservation tell them you are coming for PIR.

  • TenaciousDee

You can order online I'm sure....I'm putting our's up today. Harold said maybe it will be too much with two flags, but they are going up no matter! Lol...I also bought sticker for my truck so I guess I'll be washing my truck today so I can put it on. I want the Navy door mat....! I've already bought two Navy shirts: a Navy Mom and I Love My Sailor....and I'm even thinking of buying a Navy dog collar and anchor tag for my dog! My son is going to think I've lost my mind!

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Betsy, I do have the window decals and those can be made into magnets if you like. They are not the cling type but they are pretty easy to remove from a car window with a razor. I have done it several times lol. I have them on my facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Unique-Memory-Makers/204119052936924 and they are also on my website http://www.uniquememorymakers.com/  Unlike the window stickers you get from a store these are made with high quality vinyl that won't fade in the sun :-)

  • Twinzplus1(Ship 12, Div 203)

Thanks Diannep, Lala and Ellen.  My husband is retired Air Force so we have a military ID card in our party.  Right now I have reservations at both places - trying to figure out which one to cancel.

  • ellen0502

The only thing I have heard that may be considered negative about staying at the Gateway Inn and Suites on base is that if you are not the one with the Military ID you are not allowed to go anywhere outside the hotel alone. The person carrying the ID must be with you at all times. Not really a negative, it just could be a little confining.

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Thanks Lala, I will check it out on your site.

TenaciousDee, What?  Doesn't your husband realize that there is never too much Navy paraphernalia.  lol  I am posting a picture of my foyer in my house, just to show you what I mean.   The hat belongs to my husband, but until my son comes home, it will stay on our little bear.  :)

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

Puppy PrideThis is our dog, Lady,  in my son's Navy DEP shirt.  I sent him this picture while he was in BC.  So ladies, see you can get pretty creative with your letters and ideas.  My son loved this one.
