TG (Training Groups) always start with an odd number for the Regular Divisions...and then the brother Divisions go along in pairs up until the last even number.

All Divisions go along consecutively throughout the Fiscal Year (Oct1 - Oct1) starting with 001.

The first SPECOP Division of the year is 801 and the first Performing Division is 901.

There is usually only one Performing Division per PIR group and it coincides with the TG number. Ex: Your TG is 41 and your Performing Division will be 941. You are the 41st TG to go through RTC in this Fiscal Year. The only time there is more than one Performing Division is when RTC has skipped  a week of starting PIR groups...they then double up (and in the case of this FY they had one PIR group with three 900 Div!). When they do have more than one then the 900's are brother Divisions. Other wise they go through BS21 along with a group of Brother Div (up to four Div may go though BS21 at one time...the capacity for the USS Trayer).

There an be one or more SPECOP Div in a PIR group...they function the same way as the 900 as far as brother Div and BS21.

Hi all...my daughter's A school is at GL so I'm assuming she will have to report back on sunday night.  How can I verify that?  Also, we live just under 50 miles away, so will she be able to come home?

Congrads to yr son MOMOFTOM for Recruit Chief Petty Officer is this for the whole duration of basic or just for a week.  When I was in the Army BC they called it Patrol Leader and someone was assigned each week.  I was one of the lucky ones I had it the hardest week our last week a lot of pressure. Sure he'll be great Cody can use some extra talking to.

candy - Quartermaster (QM) is a rating (occupational specialty...job).

"A" school is at GL TSC (Great Lakes Training Support Center) which is a part of Great Lake Naval Station and up the road a ways from RTC.

Here is a link to a Wikipedia that shows the Navy Ratings...scroll down to "Administration..." and they are listed alphabetically.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_Navy_ratings

Here is one from military about.com

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

MamaB - 50 miles falls within the RTC guidelines so I am sure it does for TSC GL. So yes...she can indeed go home! She will have to report back to TSC every night (no overnight Liberty yet on Phase I)...I believe it is 2200 hours (10PM)...this can always change. This means in her barracks by 2200 hours (earlier is better as on time...is late).

TSC will be your daughters new command so the Liberty Policies of TSC are what she fall under after she INDOC's on PIR day. I don't know if they "extend" (they are different for each Base) further out for that weekend...or for Phase I Liberty (it doesn't give a radius a I think as they areabridged)...which is what all new Sailors at GL TSC are on after INDOC.

Here is a  link to their FB page...uhh...I don't FB so I am sorry I wouldn't begin to know where to post to ask over there.

I think ellen0502's son is there (sorry ellen0502 if I got that wrong) and maybe she knows1

Here is a chart of the COC at RTC (Chain of Command):

Click to open in another page and zoom.

Here is the link to RTC website that explains all the RPO positions (Recruit Petty Officers):

    http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/recruit_petty_officer.asp

Here is a pic of a Collar Device(I belive there are a different number of Chevrons depending on their postition) that the RPO's wear:

On the Chart RCPO(Recruit Chief Petty Officer) = ARPOC, RLPO(Recruit Lead Petty Officer = AROC

But it is too hard to yell... "RRRRCPO or RRRRLPO get your ________ in here"...So ARRRRRRPOOOC and ARRRRROC it is.

These positions are just for the duration of Boot Camp

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

RPO positions are planned for the duration of BC...but recruits can be "fired" from them...and they can also get it backl!

I have seen letters written home like "I'm #RPO...I got fired...guess what? I got it back!"

I also read once where the RDC's changed all of the RPO positions one day to let the recruits "see" how important COC is...it was chaos!. Hence, the reason for COC!

MoMof4:  Why not start a division discussion for 268 above in the Discussion Forum?  Doesn't look like anyone started one for 268 yet!  FTLW gave you instructions a few posts back!

p.s.  Ladies, I don't think you will ever her your SRs complain that they received TOO MUCH mail!  They may ask you to write more often....so send lots of it!  They live for mail.

klh17:  Be sure to join the San Antonio A School group on this site for answers to your questions specific to San Antonio.

ethansmom:  My son also told me he wouldn't write because he didn't like writing, but he would call.  I'm happy to tell you that I received 4-5 letters from him when he was there!  So they change their minds!  :-)  Yes, they are busy, but they will find time to write when they can.  Just remember, in the beginning, they usually can only write once a week.

  • cody furt mom Dar ship9div266

Glad to be home, excited to sleep in my own bed and happy to get back to more time on this site :-) I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. If anyone likes facebook and hasn't joined this group yet please check it out. there are a lot of members from several different PIR groups looking for others with recruits in their division. https://www.facebook.com/groups/327167160695549/

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

mkcmom, it may be a different page. Just click on the link below and see if it is the same page. This one is a closed group so you have to ask to join it. Some groups are started by people we don't know so you have to be careful.

  • MOMOFTOM (Ship9/Div266)

Cody_futr_mom  Thanks for the congrats.  Fireteamleaderwife thank you for the clarification.  I didn't know anything, except that it means he gets to help the others and it's more responsibility.  We're very proud... but the Mom in me wonders why he couldn't just sit back and do a good job being a regular SR instead of taking on more responsibility!  I don't mean to sound selfish, it's just that.. well, foolishly, he's my little boy, and DANGIT, he had to be reminded to brush his teeth!  LOL!  Seriously tho, we're proud, of course we are.  Just concerned too.

  • MOMOFTOM (Ship9/Div266)

Also wondering... I hear today was "wisdom teeth extraction" day.  Would I have been notified if my son was having his taken out?

One other thing.  This is the first time in 21 yrs that the milk has spoiled in the fridge.  We used to buy a gallon every other day...  sigh.  I miss my boy!

  • Betsy, mom of Stennis sailor

MomofTom, The only way you would be notified, is if you son told you himself.   Most SR's do have their wisdom teeth extracted and usually there are no problems with it.  You would only be notified if your SR had a health issue that would hold them back from their PIR or if they had a serious health problem.  Remember, your SR is over 18 now and they don't need to check with us anymore.  It's a hard realization, but it is, what it is.

  • diannep

Yep, I agree with Betsy.  Parents actually have no right to medical knowledge about their SRs unless there is an issue where the SR can sign a "waiver" allowing the parents to talk to the medical "powers that be" there.  Some are shocked to find out their SR was in the hospital, now is out, and they didn't know it.

Definitely is a reality check that they are young men/women and treated as such...but a scary transition for families sometimes!

  • diannep

Ladies, don't wait on booking hotels.  Some are filling up because it is summer time and there is a theme park nearby.  So book now...if you book directly, no deposits and cancellation is usually up to the day before or day of arrival.

Residence Inn Waukegan, where Betay and I stayed for our PIRs, is Pet Friendly for any planning to drive and bring pets!  Has PIR shuttle, hot buffet breakfast included in room rate, nice hotel...studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth for larger groups. Pool, fitness room, etc.

  • mom-11-263

Yea! The administrator finally approved me! It took at least a week, if not longer. I hope other people don't wait until after their recruit leaves to register... All of you are so full of information I am very happy to read your posts. I am learning a lot. Thank you for the tips on Sarge and the meet and greets. Also the hotels. I am wondering does anyone take their recruits to Great America? I am wondering if they can go on the rides, or if they will get too dirty?

  • diannep

Welcome, mom-11-263!  Glad you are here!  So sorry it took so long to be approved.  Could have been the administrator was on vacation...doesn't usually take that long.

As far as taking your saillor to Great America....will your sailor be staying in GL for A School?  If so, then it is better to go on the day after PIR (GL A School students get daytime liberty during the weekend).  That is when they can wear their khaki shirts/black pants (called PEANUT BUTTERS) which don't get as dirty.  They will be in their dress whites on PIR day and won't want to be there then.  No way they could stay clean which is so important (drilled into their heads!).  If your new sailor will be flying out to A School the next day, you probably won't be able to visit the theme park anyway,  but there are plenty of other things to do after PIR.

  • ellen0502

Phase I liberty at GL is back at ship by 2200 and no more than 50 miles away. They must also be on the buddy system, PIR weekend a family member can check them out, but also must check them back in upon return.
There is no increase on distance they can go from base until Phase III, if I remember correct.
  • mom-11-263

My son is going to Pensacola for A school. I read somewhere the recruits don't ship out until Sunday. It is last minute to know when their flight is...

  • julabula35

I've already reserved a room for my family at the Navy Lodge, but I'm hearing about a meet-and-greet at one of the other hotels nearby.  I chose NL because they were the closest to the base.  Can anyone share/compare experiences there or at other hotels?

  • ellen0502

julabula, I stayed at the Navy Lodge and loved it. When the opportunity comes up I will again stay there if possible, and with no hesitation Driving anywhere we wanted to go was not an issue from there as the "main" streets are only two turns away. :)

We attended Sarges meet and greet and it was very easy to find, I will admit we missed the turn, but that was our fault we just were looking around too much and not paying attention.

  • mom-11-263

Ok. I talked to my other son and we decided to stay the full weekend. That way we can go to Great America after my recruit leaves, if we want. I just know that my recruit son LOVES roller coasters!!! Oh well he will have lots of time for that. Another great thing about his PIR is that, it happens to also be my birthday! What a great present! I am very proud of my son. It was ONLY (ha ha) 28 years ago that I graduated Navy bootcamp. A lot has changed since then. We were in a company and our barracks was a division of many companies. We drilled with stripped down M-16's every day. And Hollywood had not created a cool simulated Navy ship to practice on back then. Also we had to wear those dorky dungarees, we didn't get the cool digital blues. I am very jealous. I pray for all of your recruits, and hope the time goes by quickly for all of us.

  • klh17(Ship 9/Div 268)

    Mom 11-263
We had planne great America as well, until I started getting all the info here. In my letter I sent my son yesterday I told him I would leave it up to him. If he really wanted to go we could take a towel for him to sit on everywhere. Lol.
  • chinadoll19

Hi ladies I would like to know all the Moms that has a child on Ship9 Div 265. Thanks - China:-)

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

China, maybe you could add a discussion (just above these comments) click on add a Discussion and give it a title like "Ship ?? DIV 265" then when other join this group they will see your discussion above and join you there. That way your post doesn't get lost in the comments a couple days from now. I am sure there will be others finding their way to this group very soon :-)

  • MamaB=Ship 14, Div 290

Hi China.  Someone just started a discussion for Division 266 including 265 because they are brother divisions.  I believe it is just call Ship 9, Div 266.

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

MamaB, maybe you could get the admin for that discussion to add DIV 265 to the title so others will find it :-)

  • Hunter518

We booked our hotel yesterday. We will be staying at springhill suites. I can't wait!! I not know if I'm supposed to ask, but if anyone knows they won't be using all 4 says for PIR will you please message me?? We need 2-3 more. Since my recruits dad and I are divorced, we have split families going. He has. 15 yr old sister so she will need a seat. My ex will bring his wife, since my daughter gets a seat that means my husband won't get one because that will be the 4 (me, my daughter, ex, and wife). Thanks ladies!! :)
  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

Hunter, we took 4 extra guests with us that weren't on a list. Same situation with the ex and his wife. We had 13 divisions for our PIR and all of the extra guests got in so hopefully even if you can't get everyone on a list they will still get in :-)

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

Thank you ellen on the "distance" for Liberty!

  • mom-11-263

Okay I have another question for you... We have four people in our group and then my son makes 5. Does Sarges taxi service seat that many in one vehicle? Maybe I should call him.

  • FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW

    Call him...SARGE AT 847-212-0246

  • mom-11-263

Okay, thank you. I will call. We are busy making plans tonight. It is exciting and I know it is important to get it all done before it is too late.

  • Hunter518

    Lala
Thank you! I'm hoping they will, but I'm planning for "just in case" I'm ok with my parents not sitting with me, I would just really like for the to at least be able to get in to watch.
  • diannep

    Good Morning, everyone!

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

    You're welcome Hunter518, good morning everyone :-)

  • cincymomdp PIR8/24 SHP 2-DIV 941

Good morning all! So happy the weather has changed for our SRs...and for the rest of us too.
  • Momof5

45 days- that is only a month and a half- we can do this!

  • ram33

    Good Afternoon all,

We will be driving from New Jersey.  I read on different post different places to stay  but can't remember them - so many post :)

What is a good place to stay near the base?? Naval Lodge??

    Thanks for the feed back...

  • diannep

ram:  There have been many good comments made about the Navy Lodge in past groups.  Affordable too and close to the base.  No PIR shuttle, but not far to drive.  Lala and FTLW both stayed there and liked it.  You get a free NEX pass also to shop in a smaller NEX nearby---even without your sailor (usually your sailor would have to be with you in the other NEXes).

There are lots of hotels in the area, many with the PIR shuttle if you don't want to drive there (your sailor can return on the shuttle with you).  Some of them are:

Ramada, Springhill Suites Waukegan, Courtyard Inn Waukegan, Residence Inn Waukegan (these last 3 are close to Sarge's MeetNGreet held the night before PIR), Comfort Inn, etc.  All are pretty close to RTC (within about 4-5 miles).

When my son was at bootcamp, I googled "Hotels in Great Lakes" and we selected Residence Inn.  Liked it (pet friendly too).  Since you are driving, if you have pet to bring to reunite with your sailor, that is a good place to stay!

Have you received the form letter yet?  If not, there are usually hotel choices in that as well.

Don't wait on booking hotels, ladies.  They are filling up faster this summer because of the theme park nearby.  No harm to book early....no deposits down usually and cancellation policy usually allows for this up to day before arrival.

  • srmproudmom

Ok Ladies, I read in one post to send our sr a lrg envelope so they can send extra mail home.  I guess they are only allowed to keep so much there.  Does anyone know what is ok to send?

  • ram33

    Diannep,

Thanks!  appreciate the information.  I was checking out the Ramada and Spring hill Suites..

I need the drive in so I can get the majority of the crying out of the way!! lol

  • Lala Ribbon Queen PIR Ribbons

I sent a manila  envelope with like $2.00 in postage on it. I also put my address as who it was going to and as the return address. That way if it was returned for not enough postage it would still come back to me :-)
