They usually get a couple days SIQ from having wisdom teeth pulled and that gives them lots of time to rest and catch up on sleep and my daughter used that time to write me 3 letters. She was so bored lol.
And I'm not 100% sure but I think they only get up at 4am during hell week. The rest of the time it is 6am unless they are in special ops div then I believe it is 4am daily. Of course things could have changed since my daughter was there.
Today is a bad day. It's 11 am and I've already written 2 letters. I've been so busy the past few days, I guess now that things have slowed down I've had too much time to think and miss my son :(
Praying for a letter today!!
I talked to a mom the other day whose daughter has been in for about a year and she offered lots of advice! It was helpful and insightful and not exactly what I wanted to hear, but I'm glad she was honest with me. One thing is like to share that she told me is to send blister band aids. They get lots of blisters on their feet from all the PT. I'm going to out a few in each letter since I can't mail a box of them. Since I'm writing everyday he will hopefully be able to always have new ones and enough to share with the other guys. Hope everyone hears from their SR's soon. 2 weeks down, 6 to go!
Well, no letter yesterday. I was kind of disappointed when I opened the mailbox and there was only junk mail in there. Maybe something will come today. I just want to hear how he's holding up.
My heart just jumped out of my chest. My phone rang and it was an area code I didn't recognize and it was a dang political survey!! Ugh someone posted what the area code would be when they call, but I don't remember what it was. Does anyone know so I can prevent any future heart attacks??
Hiya..I wanted to pop in and tell you I got my first letter yesterday..he left on June 26 from AZ..so hopefully that means theyll start flowing regularly now.He said he was busy busy and confirmed only writing on Sunday but could receive other days.
He has grown up so much in 2 weeks I can tell..so far hes not sick or hurt either..but i know many are so I continue to pray they all stay safe!
He said he found the other guys interesting coming from across the country.
He talked about studying for upcoming tests and inspections having heard they were tougher.and said although it was tough there he was so glad he made the decision to go...so im happy and look fwd to his next letter very much.
Oh and I did have an issue with his address...some of you might too..his PIR address had 3405 vs should be 3505 and had wrong last of zip as 3401 when should be 3505..so if you all are in same ship div as my son you will want to change to correct address ..but someone from our div FB group talked to Public Affairs and they said they would get them..and i think even if theyre delayed abit its better than not getting them at all :)
And letter was on Navy stationary[so wonderfully official] and it was a diff stamp than i sent with him..so not sure if they give him stamps ..made him buy some and/or he forgot he had a few :]!
The area code that you should see on your phone when your SR calls is 847.
Some of you may have gotten a call from a different area code when your SR arrived, this is usually because they have borrowed a cell phone from another recruit to call home.
Race's mom...your comment about seeing the tears on his letter breaks my heart. That is so sad :( It brings tears to my eyes just hearing that. I can't believe the little things that these guys are getting sent home for. I will keep your son in my thoughts and prayers.
Race's mom immsorry to hear of the allergic reaction. Hopefully he will be able to stay. Did he say what kind of reaction he had? I believe Hunter is allergic to penicillin. I told his recruiter, but I don't know if the info was forwarded to RTC. I am allergic and he took it once after dental surgery along with pain meds. He was extremely lethargic and out of it. Thinking it was the pain meds he quit taking them, but continued the antibiotics and was still out of it. Since I'm allergic, I assumed it was the antibiotics and he was also allergic. My reaction is different though. I break out in hives. I'll be praying for your SR and they are able to substitute the antibiotis and no more reactions and he can stay t RTC. I know no matter what you are and will be proud of him, as we are all proud of ALL of the SR's. Not just our own children.
Hunter518 - he did not say. The letter bounces back and forth, he sounds so confused as to what is going on. I think he is hearing both sides right now and just needs definite answers. I am shocked they would send someone home for an antibiotic reaction, when there are a ton of different ones on the market to use. I pray that they will make the adjustments and he stays in. He didn't say anything about changing ship or divisions. His address still show what the form letter does. So who knows...lol
Race's Mom, I am so so sorry to hear this. I am like you and don't understand why they can't just use a different antibiotic. Did he know he was allergic before he went in. My daughter is already a Sailor but my son is planning to join the Navy as well and is supposed to meet with a recruiter next week. My son is also allergic to all Cephalosporin antibiotics. We have known this since he was a toddler. We just thought it would have to be on his record. I don't even want to mention this to him but the last thing I want is for him to go to bootcamp and be sent home. Please let me know what happens. I will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
Race'sMom: SO very sorry about that. Yes, he could be sent home for allergies--depending on what kind. You would be surprised at some of the reasons they are sent home. It is heartbreaking. Some have been sent home for asthma that their moms said they have never had in their lives! Yes, he will be able to call you if they start to "separate" him. If that happens (hoping not), be sure to tell him to sign a waiver so that you can talk to the powers that be up there to get info on him. Otherwise, you can get no info except from him.
Being asmoed means being setback--removed from the PIR group but eventually put with another group to resume training, in most cases. That is usually for an illness, injury, failure of an academic/physical test, discipline, etc. Can't see where they would do that if he has an allergy to something?
I know it must be so frustrating. So hoping that there is a way he can stay...on our knees for your son!
Lala/Race'sMom: I sure hope that this allergy that both of your sons have will not be an issue.....wow. Hoping that Race'sMom gets some encouraging news soon!
Having computer issues today. Couldn't even get on this site until now. Still can't answer emails from this site--won't let me reply. Not sure what is going on but hope it resolves soon!
I got my first letter today. So happy to hear my SR is doing good. There were some fights that broke out in her sleeping quarters. Not a good thing. Some got sent home. She is trying to stay positive. Does any one know if any what we are allowed to send our SR's by mail?
Thanks Diannep and I had a problem with this site a couple weeks ago. I could even log onto the site. It kept saying it was under maintenance. It lasted pretty much a whole day and then I was finally able to get on here. It was so weird.
I am so happy I got a three page letter today. He is writing like a journal entry-a small amount each day. He talks about them moving into the barracks and it is like a prison with a red light on all night so they can count them. He says the peanut butter shot hurt worse than any shot he has ever had and it was in his butt. He says he loves his NXUS (camps) and he feels like he is really in the Navy when he wears them. He loves PT and next week is hell week- it seems soon to me- but that is what he says. His last entry was on Sunday- he says they have free time from 7-13 but there are still rules like, talk quiet, no laying down, you can take long showers but it is weird to shower with guys- lol. He says his RDC calls them a@@ holes, and Mother F@@kers all the time and it is hard not to laugh because she is a little lady from the Philippines. I am so glad he is loving it- I knew he would and I feel better now that I know all is well. Happy Mama here- hope the info helps others understand what they are up to.
Momof5: No, next week couldn't be hell week for them. That would have them finishing long before Aug 24th. The lowest numbered divisions probably will be in hell week (training week 4) by about the last part of July. Glad his letter was so upbeat and full of such great info!
diannep- I thought it was soon, but that is what he said- so he must be confused or someone telling him every week is hell week. He did say he was tired going to bed about 2100 each night. I am happy to hear from him, hoping everyone gets a letter this week.
Momof5- so excited thrilled etc to hear of your letter of happiness . All those pages of info !..I never expected a lady to be watching boys .. Never thought that .. And the cussing from a lady I pictured men screaming at him like you see in the movies .. My Poor guy he already had me telling him pick this up pick that up ;).. I was thinking he was going to get more of a father figure that he lacked !
My son didn't say anything like that about red light or shot hurt etc ..i guess ill have to rely on your son for the details i love :)..but I think I'll quiz him in next letter too !
Races mom
I am sorry to read of the trouble . I would have never thought about that. My son had so many antibiotics as kid for ears etc he finally had tonsils adenoids and ears drained and never needed antibiotic after . I'm wondering why they get them in first place ? What sick do they get in first week that they need fixing from serious med like that .. Ive heard of using low grade amoxicillian as preventative but Hhmmm another topic for my letters ! .. Anyway I will keep you iny thoughts and hope things work out the way you want :)
got my letter today! YEAH! div 262, ship 11 -- he is doing GREAT! said it wasn't so bad, the yelling was getting less, and the hardest thing to get used to was taking a shower with 80 men in 10 minutes! said the food was excellent and to WRITE WRITE WRITE!!!! Happy momma here! :)
Got my letter today too :) hunter also mentioned the butt shot. He said he got the shot 3 days ago and his butt still hurts :( but he sounded good and like he is adjusting well. He didn't mention any of the fighting that was mentioned in another post, but did say some of the guys in his division were idiots so they were doing a lot of IT (??). But, happy happy happy to hear fom him. I was shaking so bad I could hardly open the envelope. Haha
Momof5 thanks for sharing your son letter that's is great I was laughing cause I am a little tiny Filipino I could just imagine what was my son thinking he never heard me curse nor say any bad words in front of him ..... Thanks everyone for sharing all your letters...My son did not have any complain he said he had his wisdom pulled seems no big deal to him he did said the shot keep him sore for awhile. He is happy that he can eat his PB & J
I got a real letter from my son today! Yea! He sounded like he wasn't being challenged much, but that was the way I felt too. Before I went to boot camp I was running 4 miles one night and 6 miles the next. The most I ever ran in boot camp was 1 1/2 miles for PT. He said he doesn't like all of the folding and polishing, but it is all a part of the plan to pay attention to detail. He wrote his girlfriend and said he gets yelled at a lot! Oh well, he can handle it. I was just happy to get a real letter from him!
Business size envelopes with security lining not an issue, pink ones, purple ones, green ones, yellow ones, one with stickers or xxxooo on them etc...maybe (only because the RDCs like to point them out).
Fat ones, odd shaped ones, squishy ones, "stiff" ones etc...most likely an issue because it gives some indication that it is not just a letter.
I recommend no musical cards filled with glitter, bandaids and q-tips that are mailed in a chartreuse envelope with stickers of Barney and xxxxoooo printed on the outside.
Mail and its "handling" really is up to the RDC for your SRs division. Some RDCs don't care what comes in the mail (within reason) for one division and may be hard on another, or perhaps the day just calls for more IT. :).
So, if it looks and feels like a letter it probably is a letter, if it looks and feels like something else don't send it.
Got my letter today...I'm so happy :) He sounded upbeat, but a little homesick. He kept repeating how much he took family for granted and how much he misses us. He sent us instructions on letter writing, telling us when he could write and when he could get mail. The letters were written right before the peanut butter shot so I'm curious as to how that went (I'm assuming not very well). I wish I had more info to give, but really all he kept saying was how much he missed us and to write, write, write. Thanks again to all the moms who've posted thier letters. I was telling my husband, hearing the other letters is like looking through the windows at bootcamp and seeing a different view in each one. We made it throught 2 weeks!!!!
Oh crap! I mailed blister band aids today :(
There were also 2 phone cards so you can definitely tell there is something in the envelope. Really hope they don't get IT because of me.
Was gonna mail more, but maybe not.
ethansmom: Hell week is training week 4. Consists of lots of inspections, and they are up a couple of hours earlier each day. Very busy for them, but not as bad as the name sounds!

Remember, training weeks are not the same as bootcamp weeks, count-wise. They have processing days first that don't count in the training days. They have 8 weeks of bootcamp; 6 weeks of training.
I think most of the time the band-aids go unnoticed when there are only one or two in a letter. They don't normally make them open mail in front of the RDC's unless it is bulky or is a package. It should be fine :-)
9 divisions in this PIR group. That is a pretty average sized group. Same number of divisions that my son's PIR group had and we had plenty of room at PIR. So extras should have no problem getting in with proper ID!
ethansmom: thank you for info on regards of receiving the wrong address as well. I received my first official letter from my son on 7/11/2012 and the address he wrote did not match the one I received the week before in the type letter of all info of address and graduation date. when I seen that I panic I was worried if he was not going to receive my letters. Thank you that puts my mind at ease. Thank you
