Good morning Ladies.  Where is everyone?????

Good morning everyone, I am hoping for a calm day lol.... I am setting up a classroom this morning, Then taking my daughter shopping for college. Just over a week and we will be moving her into her dorm :-( I am probably going to be needing all of you for support while I am offering support to you. I hope that's okay with y'all :-)

Good morning Lala.  Of course you can lean on us for support!  Are you kidding me?  After all the support and reassurance you've given all of us?  absolutely!  My eldest son had a theory.  Looking back I see he used it often, that he'd piss me off right before he was going to do something big, so saying goodbye wasn't that hard. hehe.  NOT suggesting your dtr do the same, just giving you a humorous glimpse into the dysfunction of our family!  Lean away luv, we're here for you!

HeathersMom:  There should have been a brochure in your form letter listing various hotels to stay in.  Although I found mine by googling "Great Lakes hotels".  Stayed at Residence Inn Waukegan.  Nice...studios and 2 bdrm 2 bth for large groups.  There is also Springhill Suites, Courtyard, Navy Lodge (only about a mile from RTC), and others.  Ask for the Navy Graduation discount...or you can use AAA, etc if you have those.

You will need a gate pass to drive onto base, if not taking the hotel shuttle.  For this group, these will be available to download from here next Monday.  Here is the page to check on Monday:

No tickets are needed for PIR.  Your new sailor has listed up to 4 names on the form letter of guests he/she expects.  So bring government issued photo ID....refer to your form letter for more details.  If someone is going who is not listed on the form letter, that is fine.  That person may have to wait a little while to enter PIR Hall, but should get in with proper ID.

If you haven't booked your flights yet, look into flying into Milwaukee.  Usually cheaper than Chicago, and rental cars are usually cheaper than renting at Chicago airports.  Southwest Airlines has no change fee and first 2 bags check for free.  Southwest also flies into Chicago-Midway.  That airport is the furthest away from GL.  About an hour...could be longer with traffic.  Milwaukee is usually about 45 minutes, little to no traffic.

HeathersMom:  You should have the rest of PIR day with your new sailor....if she is moving over to GL A School, that will happen shortly after PIR is over (10:30).  Make sure your sailor has a phone card to call you when ready for pickup from that base....next to RTC.  This process usually takes several hours.  Then you have until later that night before returning your sailor to A School base. You should also have daytime liberty Saturday and Sunday with her...she has to be back at night.

If your sailor is flying out to A School, she will be bussed to the Chicago airports either Sat. morning or Sunday morning...in the wee hours....to wait for flights.  You can meet up with her out there and wait with her until her flight leaves.  Have ID with you to get an airlines gate pass to wait with her at the gate until her plane leaves.

Can someone tell me if the USO office at Ohare is inside security or not?  and WHERE would it be?  Is it a certain terminal?

Thanks so much everyone. That means a lot to me. You know I think the stress of going away like that is too much for a lot of people. She and her best friend have been fighting for a week and aren't really talking. I told her that is normal for that to happen at mile stones in our lives. Her friend is just unsure about the future and what this separation will do to their friendship. And of course afraid she will be replaced with new friends from college. I think it is always hard for those who stay behind and I hope they can work it out by this weekend when we have her going away party.

Really happy for the 8/10 PIR moms, they should all be arriving in Chicago today!  So excited for them......our turn in 2 weeks ladies!  UGH.  Could the time CRAWL ANY SLOWER????????????

PIR 8/10 ladies/families are entering the PIR HALL right now!  They will see their sailors in just a couple of hours (some will see them now if they are honor guards or working around the hall).

Oh, I hope she finds the parade. I bet she could google it as well and find out what is happening in down town Chicago today. Wouldn't it be awesome if she was able to get some pics? If she does please post them for others to see their soon to be Sailors as well. Very exciting :-)

Also, in case anyone will arrive early for PIR or will be site seeing on Sat. There are fireworks at the Navy Pier every Wednesday and Saturday night.

Good Morning all!

Hi everyone, yes I am back lol. I will be in and out a lot. We were pretty busy all day and tomorrow we are having a going away party for our daughter. We will be taking her to UNC Wilmington next weekend. We are actually planning to have dinner in the Wrightsville Beach area On Saturday (8/18) with some other navy Moms (from this PIR group too ;-) that I have met on here and of course their husbands/families as well. So if anyone lives in that area that would like to join us please let me know. 

My daughter was in the choir during bootcamp. It was AMAZING to hear her singing for all those people. I can't even explain the way it makes you feel :-) There are actually several different performing divisions that all rotate. One PIR date will have the band, choir and drill team and they are known as the triple Threat. The PIR performing division graduating the next week may be the Flag Corps and the week after that would be the Sailors who are the behind the scene workers and the side boys, and body snatchers. There are usually 3 performing divisions from 3 different PIR's all working together to put on the amazing show at PIR. So if your soon to be Sailor is in the band, choir, flag, drill, side boy etc you may be able to get a pic of them performing. They normally perform at the 2 PIR's before their on and perform at their own as well. You can join the two PIR groups before your own and ask them if they could please take a few pics and come back and post them. Let them know where your recruit will be, like choir, band, drill, state flags etc and that will make it easier for them. I was able to get a pic of my Sailor by doing that :-) And then you can do the same for the PIR performing divisions who have PIR the two weeks after yours. Let me know when you find out what your recruit will be doing during the performance. If you have any questions at all please let me know. I am happy to help. Good evening everyone! I have a request. My SRs PIR is 8/31 & he is in div 942. He will be performing at your SRs PIR. He is in drum line playing base drum. If anyone could get a pic of the drum line & post it after your PIR I would greatly appriciate it!! I am hoping for a glimpse of my SR! Thanks :)

I am sure someone will be nice enough to do that nursecat, especially since you gave such great directions on where he would be and what he will be doing. We are all such a wonderful family helping others is just what we do ;-) And you be sure to take pics of the performing division at your PIR and come back and share them with the moms and other family members who have PIR the two weeks after your PIR.

Good morning everyone!  Can you believe it, only 9 more days!  What a journey this has been for our SR's and for us.  Who has received their "I'm a sailor call?"  I know some should be coming this week!!  How exciting!  Phones by the ready!

So sorry, Lara.  Were these stress fractures?  So very common in bootcamp.  Hoping for quick healing!

sheryloverall:  Call the Public Affairs Office in the morning.  Have your old password/PIR date available.  They will ask you for that.  Tell them that you need the 08./24 one because your SR was asmoed.  I had to do this when my son was there and had no problem.

BattleStations for this group are beginning "shortly!"  Can't mention dates....but I would suggest that all keep phones handy starting tomorrow afternoon through early next week!  It is an overnight drill.  Remember, they do not do them on Fri/Sat nights....but can go any other nights.  I have only received a date for 2 divisions so can't be exact on when they go through.  If anyone has a date from their SR, please friend request/private message it to me.  Thanks!

OMG< what a stressful week this has been. I finally feel like I can breath lol. I am so sorry I have not been here much this week. The first week of school has been so hectic. So glad tomorrow is Friday. I am going to try and catch up on all the posts now before I have to cook dinner. I hope you all have had a good week. I know you missed me lol.
