    Mary,
I got a brief email yesterday sometime after they left port. Back to work for them.

  • DrKacy2b

I did! I got a belated Mother's Day text from my son while they were in port and was able to message him back and forth for a while. Sounds like they are doing good. I don't know about anyone else's kid, but mine is really ready to come home!

  • D&S✈AirmanMom

Awwwwh. My son FaceTime'd me on Mother's Day! He was able to speak to everyone in the house. What an awesome gift! He was having a hard time but he is adjusting. I'm ready for him to come home though.

Ngmalang, OPSEC dictates that any dates and locations regarding any ship's movement must NEVER be discussed in an open forum like this.

  • MaryNavywife/mom

Please please delete the comment with a specific date!

  • D&S✈AirmanMom

Is Mothers Day considered a specific date? I'm new to this. Thx
  • SoCal_Sailor_Dad

@D&S, Yes, Mother's Day is a specific date, however, it's in the past, so it's OK to post. The key to OPSEC is to not post any future dates, operations or locations that would be useful to an enemy. So, no mention of where they're headed, when they'll get there or when they'll leave. (there are OPSEC guidlines on the left side of this webpage.)

  • D&S✈AirmanMom

    Gotcha! Thx

This will be my last time on this sight. My sailor will be back on USA soil tonight and home for good in a couple of weeks. This site was a life line durning both deployments . If you haven't been to a homecoming I would encourage you to attend. The last homecoming was amazing. I am so proud of my sailor. Four years ago I watched my 18 year old son walk away to begin his adventure in the Navy . He returns a mature man wiser to the ways of the world we live in. He will come home now and continue his service as a 1st responder (firefighter) at home. Good bless you all

  • lbimom

To MavyMomDPL - so happy that you will be with your son again! I'm sure it is a mixture of pride and relief. And of course-- thank you for his service!

  • DrKacy2b

Has anyone heard from their sailor lately?

  • lbimom

Yes-- got an email late last week and his father got one on Sunday. They are busy but sounded fine--

  • Mary

mine emailed me yesterday telling me he ordered a cruise book--I was wondering how to get one..

  • MaryNavywife/mom

They have to order it on the ship at this time. There is no way for us to order one.
If anyone would like to join us we would love to have you in our Facebook group. We have Ombudsman and FRG board members in the group to help with questions.

  • carolb

Is there a specific place or link where we can get information on homecoming?

    Thanks!

  • lbimom

Just seeing the word homecoming is a great way to start my morning!

  • MaryNavywife/mom

The only way right now is to attend an FRG meeting or through a code with your Sailor. The Navy generally don't make that info public until 3-7 days before hand. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1775215149369970/
If you're on Facebook we would love to have you. FRG board members and Ombudsman are in our group and as info is allowed to be share they will share.
  • MaryNavywife/mom

The Captain said we aren't allowed to speak about the Tiger Cruise, if there will or won't be one on social media.
  • mommaross CVN77

CarolB - come up with a number that means something to you and your sailor then they can give you that number plus or minus a number to give you the correct Number - if that makes sense.:)

I'm lucky enough to get to see my son soon.  We're flying to his next port visit  - my daughter works for an airline so we fly internationally for free. He's so excited to see us while still on deployment :).  Glad this deployment is nearly over although my son chose to re-up so he's in for another 3 years. Very proud of him and all his shipmates :)

  • lbimom

In case any of you did not see what are sailors are doing now--http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4735338/100-000-ton-superca...

    Heading in the right direction--!

  • Capstar

Forgive me, but what is an FRG meeting and how does one attend?

  • Carol

do we know an approximate time they will arrive in Mayport on the 19th?

  • MaryNavywife/mom

Due to OPSEC times and piers can't be announced on social media
  • Carol

    ok thanks!

  • Freddysmom

Will the families be able to attend the arrival in Mayport, if so any suggestions or tips
  • Mary

I just want to thank this group for the support over the last 7 months. Priceless. Thank you and God bless each one and their sailor.
  • Jen

Our Sailor just got orders today  today to Norfolk.  The George H.W. Bush.  He is a newly wed.  His wife is still in Az Any info on housinf there?

  • John and Yvonne

    Jen,

Are they looking for an apartment or a house?  With Navy housing, their name has to go on a list and sometimes it takes  a year or two for their name to come up.

we want to buy phone cards for our sailor is there a certain kind we need to get?

  • SoCal_Sailor_Dad

Pippomky,  If you are looking for cards that your sailor can use from the ship while underway, they have to be a specific AT&T Ship-to-Shore card. They are available in the ship's store but your sailor has to buy them. I think they used to be available through the NEX but I may have read somewhere around here that they don't carry them anymore.  They are pricey (I think $.80/minute)

In port, they can use their cell phones. When on deployment, at sea the ship-to-shore cards are the only option for phone, in foreign ports they usually use their cell phones, either get an international plan, purchase local SIM cards, or my son signed up for Google FI and it worked great, even in countries like Dubai.

  • NikkiKL

    Hello everyone!
I'm new to this group and wondered if there is a Facebook page that is by invite only for family of sailors on the GHWB?
    Thank you :)

  • John and Yvonne

    Hello NikkiKL!

I'm not sure but I can check around for you or you can go to FB and type in the Bush and see what comes up.

Sounds like your son may be newly stationed here. Just wanted to let you know that my husband and I invite sailors over to our home on the weekends --Saturday evening  and Sunday afternoons. We play board games, watch movies, go to special events in the area and of course we feed them! :) If you want to know more about us, check out our page on this site.

    NikkiKL,

I just looked and if you go to FB, and type in USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH CVN 77 , their page comes up. It gives information about the ship, but I didn't see any comments by Moms. Hope that helps!

  • NikkiKL

    Hello Nikki.

How is your son doing? Is he enjoying Navy life? :) I was just wondering if your son is interested in coming over on the weekends. We have another sailor who comes over who is also on the Bush. Let us know and we can pm you our cell #. Have a great day!

The Lincoln's deployment has been extended again.  The information below is from the Ombudsman of the Bush

Hi all one of our sister ships is in need. They have been out to sea since April and haven’t had a port call in a very long time.....

⚓The USS Abraham Lincoln was scheduled to return home before Halloween. They have already been at sea for over 8 months and have been extended again until sometime spring 2020.

As you can imagine, this news has been hard on the Sailors and they could use some love to get them through this seemingly never ending deployment. They are all feeling extremely down about spending Thanksgiving and Christmas at sea.

Their families have put out an SOS to all they can reach, to help boost their morale and let them know that people from all over think about them and care, they are asking for care packages and/or holiday cards be sent to the ship.

Do not feel obligated to participate, but if you are compelled, the suggested care package items are:

     Holiday decorations

    Toiletries (for women too)

    Beef jerky

    Gum

Non-chocolate candy (chocolate rarely survives the shipping process) Games (cards, Uno, old school stuff) Used video games (they have a variety on consoles onboard) Used movies (DVD’s) Books Cards (especially from kids) Tuna packets Seeds (sunflower in shells and other) Girl Scout cookies Energy Bars Peanut Butter Fruit snacks Goldfish crackers Store bought snacks Stocking stuffer type small gifts All the other usual care package items....

I recommend using flat rate boxes to reduce shipping costs or send something via Amazon Prime.

Please send me a private message on here if you would like the address to send a package.

  • B'sNukeMoM⚓️MMN(Vet)

Ok so right now the command for the Lincoln has put out a post that they do not want packages sent to the ship - I guess they are getting inundated with people wanting to help and they are concerned about getting a bunch of boxes that are just being randomly sent. They are trying to figure out a way that will best handle the situation.  Once that is confirmed I'll pass on the info.

I think they were surprised at how many Navy moms/families would want to get involved!

  • Deanna

Anyone here that knows how to completely write out an address to the ship? My sailor gave me her address that was basically a photo she took and sent me where she just filled in her Box number. But then under that number was one letter and one number. She doesn’t know how to properly address  it so I’m not sure how to do it either. Can someone please clarify for me so I can ship a Christmas package to her. Any help would be appreciated. I would hate for her to not get it because I didn’t  address it correctly. Thanks ahead of time for the help. Deanna

  • Popeyesmomma

I don't know about your daughter's address, but I can tell you how I mail packages to my son.  The first line is his rank/title and name.  The second line is his ship.  The third line is his unit. The fourth line is the FPO AE # (like a zip code).  So, my son's is:

    Mmn3 ('his name')

    USS George H W Bush, CVN 77

Unit 10***1 Box 4**6, Div. Rm.

    FPO AE 09513

    United States

Note: The asteriks are actual numbers, but I didn't want to give too much info.  I was able to send packages - even from Amazon.  Good Luck!
