Hello everyone.  New here in this group.  My son arrived at Virginia Beach last night for A school.  Does anybody else have a Sailor in Virginia?
  • NavyMomKim

Thanks Connie for getting back to me.  What is FC?  I think my son will be doing his "C" school there as well.
  • William in Nashua

My son graduated boot camp today and is headed to Goose Creek on Tuesday and will be studying to become a ET.  I joined this group just now.

  • Dana - Ship 11 / Div 361

Hello Everyone!  My son graduated boot camp 2 weeks ago today.  He is in Gulfport, MS for A School studying to become a SW.  Anyone else with sailors in Gulfport?
  • joj

    Hi Dana

Our granddaughter arrived in Gulfport in Oct.  She was there for 3 months and loved it.  She did her training as a Seabee, BU.  It is a really good area.  She graduated A school the end of Jan. but since she is reserves, she is done for now.

Does anyone here have a son staying in the Nimitz, in Pensacola, FL??
  • tls

My daughter graduated boot camp on 11Feb and is headed to Meridian, MS for PS A-school on Wednesday.  It's cool how as she moves to new adventures in the Navy, I do the same on N4M!!  From Boot Camp Moms to this one .... any other PS Moms?
  • Lexsmom

Hello all!! I have a Sailor in A school in Great Lakes on the Corpsman side. She has to wait 2 weeks to class-up. She is ready to start, right now she said she is bored waiting...:) That is nice to hear after BC.
  • tls

So, what does that mean, while they wait to class-up?  What do they do during the days?
  • tls

Wow ... thanks Kathy!  Sounds like "down time" compared to RTC!  I hope my daughter doesn't have to wait too long ... I've heard that there's not much at the base in Meridian to do ...
  • Suzi-OH

Kathy - Lynch loved the food at BC, too!! He said he never ate so many veggies in his life.
  • tls

SO true!  When I went for PIR last weekend, I brought all of my daughter's favorites ... at least, what USED to be her favorites ... Sour Patch Kids, White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies, Starbucks French Vanilla Frappacino in a bottle ... she hardly touched ANY of it!
  • Suzi-OH

tls - SAME here.....I made rice krispie treats and brownies which he NEVER turns down and he begrudgingly took one little bite the second day.
Kathy - the headaches from lack of caffeine were probably killer, lol
My ex kept trying to convince Lynch to have a beer, but he would tell him that he can't and won't. I could've smacked the ex. He was in the Navy years back, but was not really cut out for it....certainly not like Lynch.

After the first week or two in P'cola Lynch felt he was not getting enough PT, so was doing more on his own. He worked out and played basketball while home for Christmas, too. And yet....he did have a major hangover the last night....but he is 21. :)

  • Stace (Ship 09 Div 067)

Hey ladies, I just joined the group as my daughter graduated last Friday and is now in A school at GL. She is going to be a hospital corpsman. I wanted to add to the food conversation as I brought many of her faves and all she had was a few bites of the cake I brought for her birthday. She did tell me that she broke down and had some french fries the other day. I think it's a good thing although be it a bit strange for her as she's always been my junk food junkie.
  • Jeffsmom1380

My son just graduated from BESS & is now waiting for ATT class to start. He has TECHNO after that then A school. The Navy is a lot of hurry up & wait but my son knows it will all be worth it!
  • Suzi-OH

Jeffsmom - watched a show on the Military Channel about life on a sub.....amazing people who live that life.
  • Jeffsmom1380

Yes Suzi-OH I have seen the whole series on the Military Channel about the Navy. Our sons & daughters are very special people! Anyone who serves their country in any branch of the military is special!
  • nanny2

Suzi-  Wow I hadn't heard about this.  This company & any others like them should be ashamed.
  • Jeffsmom1380

That is the worst story I have ever heard. Her son is serving our country!
  • tls

Good to hear ... but seriously ... why did it take all of this?  They HAD to have known it was going to blow up in their faces .... did they REALLY think she would take it lying down?
  • NavyMomKim

Obviously they never experienced the "Mother Bear" that lies in the Military Mom!!
  • angeldi999

My son just graduated from boot camp Friday Feb 18, just a few days ago and he is leaving for Dams Neck Va on Tuesday.
  • angeldi999

Finding stuff on here is confusing to me, and I know my son is supposed to be going for IS training but doesnt officially have his clearance yet...how long does that take?  I dont remember what he said his pay rate is...
  • nanny2

Suzi-  thanks for the update. It's a shame this happened in the first place. I posted it on the alumni group 12-22  & sent it to all my family & friends. Wonder how many N4M'S they heard from.LOL
  • angeldi999

IS is Intelligence Specialist...it seems a very long time for him to be gone...I am wondering if he will have any leave time to come back home, or to have visitors.
  • angeldi999

  • nanny2

My son is in San Diego now. He doesn't want to leave he loves it. He said its expensive but lovin the 70 temps, going to the beach, hiking.  Good luck to your son.
  • angeldi999

Hey, my son is adjusting to his new environment in Virginia Beach, waiting for his A school to start....question...I was looking at the Navy Lodge site and see there is a location in Dams Neck Va, actually looks very close to where he is...(anticipating a visit) and when I looked for rooms, it says there are non available for every date I checked.  Are they new, or closed or something...anyone know?

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

I was wondering if some of you could answer some questions. My son's PIR is 3/11/11 and I need to know what he can take to A school? I was told a cell, ipod and lap top? Is that true? and how do I get it to him. He is a grad and go. Also I know this sounds weird but he really wants some boxer shorts. Will they be aloud to wear them there and is there a color restriction?

  • Gayle

    Hi Ann-Marie,

My son just graduated 2-18-2011.  He was a grad and go also.  We were able to spend Friday with him and then back to boot camp that night and he was at the airport in the very AM.  I just got word that I can send him regular clothes and his electronics.  If you can meet him at the airport you can give him his cell phone.  Not sure about boxers as I am sending them tomorrow.  If your A school is the same, you must earn the right to wear civilian clothes.  My son just earned his 2nd chit to allow that. Hope this helps.

  • Gayle

    Also Ann-Marie,

I Don't know how many divisions are graduating but recommend you get there early.  We had 14 divisions or 956 grads x 4 guests.  You get it. Also when you take him back to boot camp there are lines of recruits. Many of our boys were getting out of the cars and running for the gate.

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

    Thank you Gayle.
  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

That is great news! Thank you. So he will have to earn the boxer? lol I know it sounds stupid, but that is the only thing he has complained about in BC.
  • ISH-MOM

My son complained about that also.  He found away around wearing the breifs, cant wear them when they aren't wearable (ripped the leg, or waistband).  they did have some that were like boxers.  Others did the same thing.

  • nanny2

Ann-Marie     Congrats to you & your sailor.  My son took boxers w/him to A school. They have to earn the right to wear civies (reg. clothes)  I did read awhile back where some had found white boxers to wear w/their uniform.  I think they all hate the tighty whities.  My son graduated  on 12-22 , so he had 10 days before A school he asked me to bring a pair of boxers to graduation, we stop to eat on the way home & he changed into his boxers. LOL   Graduation is awesome but do get there early & be prepared to sit forever.  Good Luck to your sailor.
  • ISH-MOM

    Nanny2,

My son also graduated on 12-22. What A school is your sailor atttending?

Ann-Marie, Congrats to both of you! Graduation is something I will always remember.  Get there right when the gates open to get a good seat!  I took a cab there and got right in.  They fill up quick.  Be prepared to sit for a very long time.  I suggest bringing along water or coffee to drink and a snack.  If you leave your seat you will loose it.

  • William in Nashua

My son started his A school in Goose Creek on Monday.  We are sending him pairs of boxer briefs too but are sticking with plain white color.  My wife thought if  they have to wear their dress whites a dark color might show through.  Plus it is easier to clean because you can wash them with the whites and use bleach.  Plain white is always a safe bet.

Congratulations to everyone who will be graduating this Friday.

You can always mail them their cell phone at the A school.  My son bought a new laptop at the nex.  They do have access to the NEX this is not boot camp any more.

ISH_MOM,  He is in San Diego & loves it. He graduates March 9th. He is in the reserves so he will be flying home on the 10th. I will be happy to see him but he is sad to leave San Diego.

Ann-Marie,  I forgot to add that my son bought a black backpack to put his laptop, ipod ect in, he was able to carry that on the plan w/him.

  • ISH-MOM

    Nanny2,

That would be a great place to be right now.  Today the temp was -3 w/ -19 windchill when I left for work this morning.  Old Man winter doesnt want to give up this year!!  Have a great time when he comes home!  My son was able to come home after graduation.  He left Jan 3rd and is not able to come home for at least 16 months min.  :(.  I do miss him, but able to contact each other my cell phones makes it alot easier.

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Thank you Nanny 2 and Ish_Mom for all the great info.
  • ISH-MOM

    Ann-Marie

You are welcome and enjoy graduation and your time with your Sailor!

Ish-mom   brrr that's cold.  Here in ky we have had a long winter for us too. Nothing like up north but below freezing & more snow than usually. Last wknd we had tornados all around us. Crazy weather. It will be good to see my son &  to see what is next for him. His plan when he left was to finish college & get his degree if he doesn't get orders. He also has been talking of switching to full time Navy so I never know w/him. At least he will be closer, he lives about 2 hrs from us, so that will be nice.
  • ISH-MOM

Nanny2  The weather here in MN is weird.  Yesterday it was 30 deg. today in the dumper.  Thursday is supposed to be in the 30's again and more snow on the way!!  I am ready to move South!  My son is in CT- Groton so I have heard all about the weather there.  Just makes you go HMMM.

  • Ann-Marie(Proud Mom of Nick)

Quick question. I am getting so many mixed messages. Someone posted that A school students in Gulfport can have vehicles? Is that true?
