i asked my son sunday if he got his approval yet for christmas leave! he said he did it last week. i would like to thank raberta for mentioning it. i know my son is busy with school and such. just had to do the mom thing and remind him!!lol
Glad some of you have heard (whistling). If he doesn't make it home for the holidays, I'll be okay. This is the military, they have their own time and reasons for what is done. At least that's what I'll keep telling myself....
Hello, I am slowly adjusting to Navy life with my son with thankfulness and pride! Does anyone have any suggestions for lodging in Pensacola in December after Christmas?
The Navy does have housing resources for sailors who will not be going home during the two week break. And there is always a USO Division available for the personnel. You can join the Sailors Rescue site. I noticed that some families open their homes to sailors for the holidays.
Anyone that has a son or daughter in the Norfolk/Dam Neck/Virginia Beach area during the Christmas holiday who can't go home, we would love to invite them to our home for Christmas dinner. Just let us know.
raberta---i know what you mean!!! i am so wishing for time to slow down a little while he is here (i know it wont, but one can always wish). might be the last visit for awhile. i sure do miss him!!
Tina: Yes. Now he and his friends are enjoying the new movies that are out in theatres this week-they are so happy to see him. Getting used to this grown man laying on the couch...
Just waking up after taking son to airport at OMG It's Early this morning. What a great time we had together! Happy New Year to everyone. Praying our sailors have safe travels back home and abroad!
Enjoying one more day with my son. We made it to Corry Station and I feel much better about tomorrow. God will continue to protect and guide his footsteps. Nice naval base
I have a son in "A" school in Monterey Ca. and he just went back from christmas. He is having a very hard time since returning anyone got any suggestions to help him through.
my son had a little trouble too. we texted and called when we could to let him know we are here for him and to encourage him him getting back into his routine might help and hanging with friends. i also sent my son a box of things. i asked him if he had anything he didnt take with him sent. gives them something to look forward to from home. hope this helps.
My daughter is in A school at GL. This is close to home so it is nice. She just graduated from Boot Camp last Friday. I have to get used to the idea that she now has her phone and I can communicate with her.
mommabonds: It depends on what having a hard time looks like. It's different for each sailor. A School is now physical training, plus the skill set he needs to develop for his chosen field. Encourage him to get help from the head of his division and others in his group. These sailors have a bond and help each other. A closed mouth doesn't get fed. All we can do is continue to encourage and pray for our sailors. A good care package helps too!
Hello everybody - knew to this group...my son had his PIR on 1/13/12....he is in pensacola for AS...he was told he was going to have to wait 2-3 months to class up.....I sent his laptop but he cannot use it because there is no internet.....anybody have any suggestions on where he can go to get on it. Thanks.!!
navymomfromCT: The staff there will be able to direct him in where to get access. A lot of the things done in A School are classified and can't be discussed with us "civies". As my AR told me," The world is my home now". So try not to worry. One more thing A School is the training for the job he tested. Building those skills in addition to physical training. He will call when able, and contact you if something dire occurs.
Saw "The Wild Thornberrys:The Movie" on cable today. Got me all misty. I still see us in the theatre watching it, sharing a medium popcorn and Cherry Coke. Good memories.
Hello all, I am new to this so bear with me. My son just graduated BC 2/3 and is at A school in great lakes. He is going to be there for about 3 weeks then is stationed on the DDG Stockdale in San Diego. I am happy that he is finally out of BC and moving on to better duty!
welcome amyd and annie!!! congrats on having sailors in the family now!!! my son graduated from a school in jan. he is about to start power school in goose creek, sc.
amyd---i dont know if you have ever been to sc, but it is nice there. we went for thanksgiving last year. plannng on going down in april.
Amy D and tina41...I am from SC and it is a beautiful state! The Charleston area in particular is beautiful...so much history. Columbia is nice, too. We are from the upstate near the mountains, but the state is so small that you can drive from the coast to the mountains in just a few hours. Hope your sons enjoy it there.
My son is in San Antonia for corpsman school; he graduates in a month and will go to San Diego for FMTB training then onto Okinawa, Japan. He will not get to come home before leaving, so I don't know when we will be able to see him again. I'm grateful he got to come home at Christmas. Financially, we just can't afford the air fare to get to either San Antonio or San Diego for either graduation. He is very excited, though.
jackerfan--if you cant make it to either of his graduations, maybe you can find someone on here to get some pictures for you. or maybe he can have someone there get pictures for you. i feel very blessed that we have been able to go to sc to visit my son. God is Great!!
Sorry I have been off the site for awhile. My son is keeping me posted on his A school, and he said he is finishing early on the 25th. Momofbp- you are right about the dates changing. I am not sure now when he has to report to San Diego. I do not even know what he is doing on the ship, he is an undie, so I guess all the "crap" work..until he can strike.. but he doesn't care as long as it is in beautiful San Diego..see how he likes it at sea though, time will tell.
@momofbp: You know that's the truth. I just hope that all of our sailors are able to get thru the changes military life can bring. Otherwise, I'll just keep my blue candle burning! Does anyone know if there is a C School page?
My daughter just graduated on 3-2-2012 from bootcamp, and is attending A school at Great Lakes. She eventually will be going to Everett, Washington. My question is, will she be able to come home on leave before moving so far away?
Hello all...I just joined this group. Our son's PIR was 12/29. He was on ship09 division 023. He is at Great Lakes for A school. His rate is engineman. He has verbal orders for the pre-com USS Arlington LPD 24. He really wanted Everett, WA but orders are orders :)
Haven't been on here in awhile. Thanks for the great info about Okinawa. He graduates Tuesday and will be able to come home after all; he will be working with the recruiter while he's here. He reports to San Diego at the end of the month. Can't wait to see him!
My daughter graduated boot camp on 12/29 and now is attending A-School in Great Lakes and just got her verbal orders this Monday she will be going to San Diego which we are very happy because it is close to home. Her rate is an engineman
Hello all, my SR will PIR 04/20 and I am trying to figure out what he may take to A School. I am curious how available internet is for him to skype with his young siblings? Also from any experienced parents, would it be worth getting him a cellular with a data plan so he can skype from his phone? Concerned that we will take out a 2 yr olan to find he goes to school for 6-8 week then out to sea with no use for a phone. I know we can put the phone in a sleep mode, just looking for advice. His siblings are 7,5 and 2 so talking on the phone for the youngest isn't easy. Thanks for any and all help!
Hi TraceJ My son is in Pensacola Florida. They are able to skype. After a few weeks they get to level 2. They are aloud to leave the base at that point. My son and I never got along we were to much alike. There was always a debate going on between us. Now that he is in the navy we have a great relationship. He loves what he is doing and that makes me happy. They change after bootcamp. He calls me at least 3 times a week and we skype at least once a week and it is great. My youngest is in bootcamp. We live in Great Lakes because my husband is stationed here he is a chief. It changed my husbands life also. He was getting into trouble all the time until he joined the military. We have been married 7 years and he is a wonderful husband. It does change them. Take care and God Bless.
