Good morning all! I was going to post J's picture, but since the uniform shows last name I removed it. Hope everyone's Sailor came through the week in good spirits. Big test on Monday that he said he'll be studying for all weekend. The end is near!
  • JudyB.

Jacqueline, Congratulations K for doing a fantastic job on navigation and for sporting the BRC Paddle...Terrific News!! We have such a Great bunch of Corpsman...HoooRah!

See how fortunate we all are to be able to enjoy nature and all her beauty!! I have a ocean top rural trail that I can take up to Pirates Cove, the dogs love it...and every time I walk it I don't forget to thank God, I tell him"Thank You God for allowing me to Live, Love and laugh here in Shell Beach, CA.". Because he is Good All the Time!!
  • Pam

Great News Jaecqueline! I'm sure he's very proud of himself.
  • Pam

It has been quiet. We just posted a video on Facebook wishing J a Happy Birthday. Tomorrow is a big one - 21st!! Him and a bunch of guys went to a bar and grill last night and he got a burger and then a nice case of food poisening. The poor thing has been in the bathroom almost twenty-four hours. Thank goodness this happened after the five day field trip.

Chief88 - that saying is on my Facebook as my favorite quote! Love that movie.

Ruth - sending good wishes to your son for a speedy recovery. Hope he feels better soon.
  • Pam

Sending good thoughts to all of our Sailors taking the final test tomorrow.
  • Pam

JLC - hang in there. I'm sure someone will come on and be able to answer your question. I know my son took all his uniforms and then was issued the desert cammies a week after he got there, but he started as soon as he arrived.
  • Pam

Congratulations to your son Ruth!! He should be very proud of his accomplishment!

I just had a long conversation with J. The poor thing was out of commission all weekend because of food poisening and then got the flu shot (nasal) today and feels pretty rough again. He said he felt fine when they gave him the shot, so he thought it would be o.k. Boy, pretty hard for this old mom not to want to "comfort"... And today is his 21st birthday and he couldn't even think about alcohol! (that one really didn't bother me at all! Ha, Ha).

He also passed the last written test! Yay!! Hope everyone else did fine. The countdown is starting! His orders haven't posted yet on what he will do after graduation.
  • JudyB.

Ruth, Super fantastic News!! WOW, we have a new HM-3, Yaaaaaa Congratulations!!!

My cub text me also he passed test #5 with a 92 score!! OMG am I glad that's over. lol
  • JudyB.

Pam, OH NO!! That is horrible!! Now I feel so bad for J, just want to drive down myself and bring him all the comforts of home starting with chicken soup; if he could keep it down...and on his 21st Birthday, poor cub!!
Well some good news J passed his test #5 super job!! He should get a medal for feeling the worst but still a Proud Corpsman!!
  • JudyB.

Jacqueline, Here's wishing your cub carries all 55lbs to the finish line with stride...Good Luck!!
  • Joan F

So glad to hear that your corpsman did well on their test, what a lot to look forward to. My son is doing his clinical, but doesn't seem to have much to do. Wish I could take him to my hospital and I would have plenty for him to do. I wonder what they will have him doing in the hospital a CP when he goes there waiting for FMTB. Told him he needs all the experience that he can get. Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving.
  • Joan F

Thanks Linda, hopefully he will get some good experience. Wow Labor and delivery, I work OB and in C/S I am the baby nurse, always a miracle although sometimes can be a scary thing when things don't go exactly right. Just got done with 4 days in a row, now couple off before working Thanksgiving. I guess our sons will be in the same class in Jan.
Jacqueline good luck to your son with his run!
Thank you ladies for all your info, have given it to my son and sure will have more questions.
  • Pam

Judy - Chicken soup was on my mind last night! I did stay on the phone with him for close to an hour and a half, and I think he felt a little better. He's ready to get done with the training. I think that has to do with not feeling well though. He'll bounce back! So glad T passed his test with an awesome score. J got an 88 and he said he was sweating bullets because he knew he had to get at least an 80. Said they were headed to the shooting range today and that with nearly 300 corpsman it was going to take a while. And then they get inspected on their rifle cleaning. So, keeping my fingers crossed all targets are hit and the rifle is white glove clean..
  • JudyB.

Pam, I hear ya on "ready to get it done with training", because I hear the same from T. It's a good thing that the longest mile hike was finished up last week; pretty much all that's left are lots of PT, inspections and some more hikes. Since T is Reservists he will be asking for 29 Palms for his post;because Katie is setting up house for the 2 of them in Las Vegas. Looks like after T finds a full time job, He & Katie will be engaged.

I sure hope your cub gets to feeling better and his stress level subsides now that he passed the last written test...and Great Job on passing the test!!
  • JudyB.

Good Morning All, Looks like rain today starting here in the north then the FMT should see signs later today; but Thanksgiving should be clear but cold in the 50's though.

Chief, Good Job! on passing test #5 and here's wishing our cubs a blessed Thanksgiving away from Family this year!!

Jacqueline, Thanks for the tip on the Sambuscus Immune Syrup. So can you find it in any drug store?!
  • JudyB.

Jacquline, I saw some news on that snowstorm; I hope you & your family fared well? I will also stick with the "Nature's Way product, Thanks.
Though I have never been up that way...some day I hope too!
  • Pam

Chief88 - love the snowblower story!! The Navy took my second best friend (the first being my husband of course LOL). It's been hard on this Mom not having my buddy around. Cutting the strings one at a time! LOL.

Snow here in Atlanta is a treat believe it or not. They make it on one of the granite mountains, but then charge you almost $30 for a couple hours of enjoyment. However, I was born and raised outside of Chicago and had my fill of sub-zero temps and then factor in the wind chill and it's miserable! So grateful that J did PIR in June and then A School grad in September! Phew!

Jacqueline - I have heard of elderberry syrup. Yummy stuff and anything with Zinc in it can kick a cold!!

Carol - I have a feeling there's going to be a few targets obliterated! Ha... hopefully he'll have better luck next time. J came out of boot as an E3 because of his college credits, so it looks like he'll have a long wait for that E4.
  • JudyB.

OH Carol, C really has had the tough luck..huh! They say when one door closes another one opens. We can take heart in that you know! I just know that C works really hard from what T tells me and that he is really liked by all!!

T, was offered the same job C had because the other guy just wasn't cutting it last week in the field, but T turned it down...don't ask me why cause I did!! T said that because he's Reservists it would of done him no good in using it for application purposes for the Police Academy and just added more work!!

Carol, You have to know that C was doing a job for 2 or more out there in FMTB...
  • JudyB.

Jacqueline, How funny, a picture out of the evening post with the spot light shining down on all those having a Great time in the snow...I just an idea after reading your post of putting on a kettle of water and some apple cider...ummm! lol
  • JudyB.

Carol, It's funny what our cubs divulge and don't, that's why I use my words very carefully when it comes to my cub. The way I found out is when I asked how did the guys in his platoon do, then he mentioned that the Commander approached him and T "Respectfully Declined" the opportunity in his words. Believe me I'm a Mama Bear when it comes to my only Son, but since he has started this journey...a whole new person has emerged.

C, is cut from the same cloth...but there is only so much a corpsman can do. He is truly "Someone to be proud of"!!
  • JudyB.

Chief, Carols cub was like the platoon leader of the Corpsman, he would get his platoon to keep formation while on hikes etc. but not just limited too! Well their are 2 of them and C was doing the job of himself, platoon leader and had to report to his Commander, well the other leader could not live up to the job like Carols cub, when my cub was approached by the Commander to fill in and my cub "Respectively Declined" the extra responsibility.
  • Pam

I try to pick and choose what J talks about also. It's normal for frustrations to rear their ugly head in situations such as our boys are going through and us Mom's know how to listen and not judge. That's why our phone call lasted an hour and a half last night. Lots and lots of venting even though he was sick! I thought he might have been the only one so I'm relieved to know that others are venting also. He has set his sights on finishing up FMTB and moving on to Italy where he can actually "be" a Corpsman.
  • Pam

LOL Chief88 - sometimes when we get on a roll I have a hard time keeping up!! I was shocked at how many posts had been made when I checked in on my lunch break! It's good to have others that have kids going through the same thing and knowing those people know what your talking about!
  • Pam

It's like Jaqueline said - we're all in school, learning as we go! What is pig lab? I'm thinking a nice big ham sandwich! LOL!

Got a text from my son and he said that his food poisening and reaction to the flu shot is pretty much over. He said it was the wierdest thing! I'm just glad he's feeling better.
  • Pam

Wow - pig lab sounds interesting indeed. They filmed a documentary here one time of a car accident with alchohol involved using teens. Nasty and very graphic.

Special guest?? I'm excited to here. J has duty on Thanksgiving so he couldnt' do the adopt a sailor program. He did say they are having a "feast" at the dining hall. Thank goodness his apetite is back!
  • Pam

Holy Smokes! I'm new to the Navy lingo and didn't know MPCON meant Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy. Yes, I had to google it. ;) Again, I'm in school all over again, but WOW that's awesome. I have read his bio and probably don't have to tell my son to read up on it, but he's also from GA! And my son is such a cheese that he would be one to smile at the camera. I can't wait!! I know he has duty so he'll definately be on base.
  • Pam

My son met MCPON today! And the whole platoon sang Happy Birthday to him!
  • Pam

JLC - what a way to start his time at Camp P!! I have liked MCPON on Facebook and seen a few pictures.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! J has duty during high football time. Welcome to the military!!
  • Pam

BTW - J got his box that I sent him for his birthday today. For once I didn't send any cookies or brownies because he had been sick. I had to laugh because he said everyone was disappointed when he opened the package although he was the one that told me not to send anymore brownies because whenever someone gets a brown box, they get attacked. So....... I'm feeling a baking frenzy coming on!! Well, maybe a small one anyway.
  • JudyB.

Good Evening All, Lots of chatter today. I got stuck in an accident on the 101 today as I was out and about, same as last night when I started shopping for turkey day...boy 21 accidents in a 25 mile radius, we don't get much rain but lately tons...people forget how to drive.Golly Geese!!

Ruth, so happy for your cub but so sorry he didn't get it from McPon.

Happy Birthday to J!! So glad he is feeling better!! Oh, sorry he has duty at the time of the game!!
  • Pam

Rain and cold Judy? J told me earlier it's gotten pretty cold in sunny Cali! J said MCPON is a really decent guy and he even asked if there was anyone from GA and J and a couple other one's raised their hand.
  • JudyB.

That is so cool Pam! It really is something to hear in your cubs voice that he is apart of something bigger than himself; T mentioned the same thing about McPon.
T set out on his way to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving, As I was talking to him while he was driving he was stuck in traffic going about 48 miles in 2 hours; the newsman came on and said the 5 top destinations on the west coast is...#1 was Las Vegas...go figure! Haha we laughed !!
  • jesspoo05

So I haven't been on in a while. I have been dealing with the holidays, family, finalizing things for work before I move, tons of stuff! Well, anyways thought I would come on and say hi to everyone. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! I am getting everything ready to move just outside of CP! I am so excited to be near my BF! Everything is coming together slowly but surely. Now I just have to finish packing, which of course is a big task of it own. I leave on Tuesday and will be there Wednesday! I can't wait to see him on Wednesday!! So I am not sure how often I will be on in the next bit, or if I will have the internet in the new place for a while. So until next time, I hope all of your days are wonderful!!
  • Pam

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone had a great holiday. Ruth - that is just awesome. You have to love modern technology. Jesspoo05 - congrats on your move! We spent a couple days in Tennessee with my Dad's family and spoke to J a couple times on Thanksgiving. He had a hard time and was caught by surprise how much he missed being home. He had duty from 2-6 so wasn't allowed to leave base at all. They did cater in Boston Market for all the one's on base. We're hoping he can come home for Christmas so that we can spend part of the holidays together before he heads to Italy.
  • JudyB.

Pam good morning to you! How special were our corpsman to have Boston Market cater their Thanksgiving!! How was the weather in Tennessee?! My favorite celebrity team Keith Urban & Nicole Kidman live there; how fun for you to be with family. T drove to Las Vegas for the Holiday they woke up at 2:45am to stand in line at the Nex on their Military Base for Black Friday for their specials; got electronics & home furnishings for Katie and T's new condo! They were so excited to start their new life together!!

I was not one of those who joined in on the race to "Black Friday" shopping; but I did make reservations for Christmas in Vegas so I think I will stick with Gift certificates for the every day needs.

jesspoo, I'm very happy your plans are coming to fruition and that you and you're corpsman will be together for Christmas!!

Ruth, the skype thing really works?!! What a treat to be able to share your Holiday with your cub through cyberspace!!
  • Pam

Oh my - even the NEX gets in on Black Friday, that's funny Judy!! I am not one of those that gets out there in the wee hours on the Friday after Thanksgiving. Many, many years ago I worked retail and had my fill of evil people looking for a bargain! I have to say that Amazon has become my favorite for online shopping.

Tennesse was very warm Turkey day, 72 degress. However, the bottom dropped out on Friday and it barely made it to 40 degrees. Shock to the system for sure! Christmas in Vegas sounds wonderful. We will stick close to home since this will be J's last holiday here in the states for a couple years.

BTW - Ketih Urban and Nicole Kidman are going to be on Oprah this week. Seen the commercial for it this morning!!

Here's a picture of my Aunt's backyard. I love to visit, but not sure I could ever live there.

  • Pam

Thanks Chief! I love the scenery, but I always feel like I'm stepping back in time when I go up to visit!! Sometimes though, the simple life might be better! I spoke to J for a few minutes earlier. Looks like he made up for being sick on his 21st birthday down in San Diego for the weekend! I probably don't want to know, right? He said they pretty much are on wind down now. They spent the day on the obstacle course and then actually got liberty early! Needless to say, there was a lot of happy sailors in the background while we were talking! They have one more field trip to get through and I can't believe there are only two weeks left! Crazy! Hope everyone gets through the next two weeks without any mishaps!
  • Pam

I won't be able to make this graduation. :(

Really wish I could, but my our anniversary is Dec. 16 and we have plans and I went to A School grad and kind of knew I would not be able to do another trip. Checkbook has taken a hit!!
  • JudyB.

Good Morning, did everyone survive Cyber Monday Sale?!! You know I'm the first one up for a sale!, But this year I just haven't gotten into the mood for the presents side of Christmas; really for the first time in along time it's about my new love thanks to my Corpsman and that would be our Service Men & Women. I want them to know just how much their diligence in staying the course on this war is very much appreciated and doesn't go unnoticed!! So I hit all the discount stores for care packages and I will send them out today!! My 70lbs of care packages I sent out before Halloween arrived without incident.

Pam, Yes I posted a note on my blotter so not to miss the "Oprah Show" yesterday...they were so Great!! And Thanks for the pic of your Auntie's backyard...wow how nice to have all that land!! I think next year I want to travel to the east coast and witness the changing of the leaves...always wanted to do that!!

Chief, Yes My Hubby and I will be in attendance on Dec. 16th. It will be a drive up and back the same day!! I would love to meet you also!!
  • Pam

My goodness but most sound like they are getting or have been sick. Next week is field trip time so hopefully they will all be over this crud. Funny story about the hot sauce Chief - J put a little too much on his MRE when they were out in the field last time. Needless to say, his mouth was on fire, but he knew he had to eat, so toughed it out. I'll never forget the time he was about 7 and mistook a jalapeno for a pickle and popped that right in his mouth. OUCH!! He never really was a fan of hot sauce, but he said it does give MRE's some flavor!! I've actually tasted a few when my husband was in the Army.

Judy - the colors are wonderful, but depending on the temps and the amount of rainfall, it varies on when it really gets colorful here. Sometimes it's October, other times its November. We also have a lot of pine trees in Georgia, so that keeps it "green" all winter. Growing up outside of Chicago, it was just drab all winter.

I have to admit all day on Thanksgiving I was thinking about all the kids in bootcamp and hoping they at least got to call home. J had a hard time and he was able to call.
  • Pam

FMTB is eight weeks long. It may seem like 13l!!

Welcome Proud.Mom.72!! Your son will more than likely be in the next class that starts up in January. Very physically demanding course but the kids seem to like it.
  • JudyB.

Hey there, T called last night, he said that he has that bone spur in his foot that is super painful; he has a real strong tolerance for Pain and asked for an appt. to see the Doc but someone messed up and scheduled his appointment 11/2 weeks later which was yesterday...well because most of the corpsman are sick...T was sent away without seeing the Doc!! He said he can do everything without pain but run and push ups!! I feel really bad for him cause he never complains!!

Jacqueline, Way to go...can't do better than that!! You tell your cub that we are so Proud of him!!
  • Pam

Congratulations to your son Jacqueline! In the words of my son "He's a Hoss!!" Makes me laugh everytime he says that.

Judy - Poor T :( My Mom would get heal spurs and they were so painful.

How are all our Corpsman going to be the caregivers if they're all sick!!
  • JudyB.

OH Well looks like T has good company with all the sickness and bones popping up in places they shouldn't. lol T said that he did really well on the rifle range...so that went well...I'll take it! I'm sure they all are just counting down the days now!
  • Pam

LOL - no Chief, they're not real!! She has yard oranaments all over. And when you have tons of acreage, thats a lot! Not sure what it was today, but J was on my mind a lot. One of those Mom things I guess. I posted on his Facebook, His reply "Only 15 more days!" Yay! So, yes the end is near and in those four words, I could "hear" it!!
  • Pam

And besides, geese are mean little suckers!! I don't think I'd get that close! LOL!!
  • JudyB.

Pam, Yes they are mean suckers, my parents would take us to Waller Park where I grew up and where I raised my kids and took them to the same park and those Geese would scare the heck out of us!!

I think T is really fed up with all the loud screaming voices, even when his troop are doing good his CPO screams at them " I can't hear you"!!

Carol, Thanks for the video...gives a good insight into what their experiencing.
  • Pam

I'd imagine since it's bleachers, you wouldn't have a limit. H is going to be so excited to see everyone!! As much as my son "likes" his Navy guy friends, and he'd never admit it of course, but he likes to see his family.
  • JudyB.

Good Morning Moms, All this talk of graduation is getting me soooo excited to see All our Corpsman. So who all are going...does anybody know?! I know of Chief & myself. T is getting his personal life together, you know like business and stuff. He even called me for his address at Camp Pendelton!!
  • JudyB.

Jacqueline, WoW that is awesome news on the cost of your airline tickets...Bookem Danno!! LOL

Chief, Are you kidding me...your facebook ?! How does that happen??
