Chief - that's probably why I couldn't find you the other night on FB!!
On Thanksgiving we talked to J in the early afternoon and since we got up at 4:00 a.m. and then drove for 4 hours to my family in TN, we were in bed by 8:30 that night. Well, J called at 11:00 p.m. our time. OUCH - but Mom got her behind out of bed and talked to him for 30 minutes. My husband didn't even hear my cell phone. Hmph! But, I wouldn't miss a call for anything! Got a message last night and he said he leaves the day of grad for home. He'll stay for Christmas and then off to Italy for 2 years. My panic attacks are beginning already. Just kidding. I went through the same anxiety when he started kindergarten. There's something about the oldest child. And then my husband reminds me about the military changing plans whenever they want and not to get myself worked up. For once I might listen to him!!
Pam, I'm so happy that you will get a nice holiday visit with J before he heads out to Italy!! How fun the thought of going to visit your corpsman in Italy...If you have never been...that would be on my bucket list :)
My son just graduated today and now I can say I am a Corpsman mom. He flies to Cali today and will have to report to CP on Saturday. He will do his FMTB next month. He called today and we may be able to have him home for Christmas, would be the best present ever as haven't seen him since PIR.
Joan, Yaaaaa...to your corpsman and CONGRATULATION!! YOU ARE GOING TO BE SOOO HAPPY TO HAVE HIM IN CALIFORNIA...Modesto is only a 8 hour train ride home from CP, and the weather is so much nicer than in CL too!! Well looks like you got your Xmas present early, huh!!
Has anybody heard from their Corpsman lately?! T called me at 10pm last night; I thought I wouldn't hear from him last nigh so I went to bed early...but I got a text this morning from him he said he had field day yesterday...I'm soooHappy it's Friday!!
Thanks Judy, said if he comes home for Christmas I won't need anything else lol.
Linda how cool they will both be in school together, we will be able to share our experience together. My daughter is on her way to pick him up from the airport right now!!!
Thanks Carol yes he is. He wanted to go FMF but didn't get it. I told him he needs to have time to learn things as he was always working on engines not humans lol.
Hey Jacqueline. Looks like you couldn't sleep either. Huh! I don't know what it is but I only slept 4 hours yesterday night and tonight nothing but Painnnn..!!
You must be a baker?! I'm a better baker than a cook...probably cause I am a sucker for sweets. Augh!! I love to bake an assortment of goodies such as 7 layer cookie, gingerbread cookies, ornament w/icing, Oatmeal chocolate chip, walnut cookies, chocolate fudge w/walnuts and coconut cookies!! Boy I have started receiving orders already. lol
Glad to hear you got your FB back Chief! J called last night and it sounds like they're all ready for it to be over!! Said the stuff in Korea is starting to bother him. He's also a "brown" belt now. Although this "belt" isn't Navy issued, so he can't wear on his blue cammies. Weird. He leaves for Italy on the 29th. His orders finally came through. What a way to start the New Year. They're headed to the field for three days next week. Not looking forward to it since it's been in the 20's at night.
They've been training in martial arts. I think it's all of the Corpsman, but not sure on that. My son doesn't have a serious girlfriend, so he still likes to talk to us!! LOL. I worry about that sometimes. He seems to hang out with Navy guys all the time. But then again, he knows he's not going to stay in one place long enough to start a relationship. He said he has limited winter gear. They went out the other "cold" morning for muster and it was freezing and a couple marines walked by in full winter attire. Face masks, heavy coat, boots. Feeling like a child looking in the glass at the candy store with no money! He's trying to get his flight home changed so that he can be home for Christams We're keeping our fingers crossed.
So glad you were finally able to talk to H Chief... Sure does put your mind at ease just to hear they're ok.
And that Auburn took it to the bank!
J said it's funny how it's 70 degrees in the afternoon and 20 in the morning! He's sight seeing Los Angeles tonight. Sent me a text picture of the Melrose Place street sign. Ha, ha. He's going to have a blast in Italy because he loves to travel and try new things like me!
10 days left until J comes home and the FMTB training is over. Wow - it's been another crazy ride. It seems like this has been a part of our lives forever, but for us, it's only been since April.
For those that are lucky enough to attend graduation, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! I am feeling sad because we can't go, but at least J will be home for Christimas with us. Next year, well, that's another story!
Stay warm, winter has arrived in Georgia. Brrr....
It has been quiet on here. I'd say look for the most handsome Sailor there, but I might be biased!! Ha, ha.... I still need to find you on FB, just haven't had a chance to get online much this last week.
That's ok Chief - I type for a living and I stink at it here! Ha, ha! J is going to literally "run" to the airport. I'm a little upset that his flight gets in so late the night he comes home. I had plans on all of us being at the airport with big welcome home posters, but my four year old will be in bed for a long time before we even head to the airport. Luckily, we're only 30 minutes away. Gosh, I hear ya, I'm ready to see my kid again. If he would just stop cussing like a Sailor, it might be better though!!
my J is still trying to find out what's to come. He was told earlier that he won't get leave before heading to Japan. So, we are planning a LONG road trip! I won't let him leave without seeing him, no matter the cost. He said he may find out something on the 14th, so he has orders from me to call immediately when he finds out anything! If he gets leave, we'll just turn around and go back home, skip the graduation, and be ready for him to come home. Is it normal to not have orders yet? He doesn't have flight info or anything for heading overseas. He basically knows nothing. He doesn't even know any info about graduation, so we're flying by the seat of our pants. Any help for you ladies would be great!! I'd had computer problems so I haven't been on here for quite awhile. Glad to hear all the good reports from all of you!
Becky - graduation is definately on the morning of Dec. 16. Our J just had his orders post this past Thursday, so yep, cutting it close. At least he was able to get his tickets in order. J's first set of orders came before A School graduation. The date he is set to leave for Italy changed by one day with this new set of orders. You won't hear a thing from him until Friday because of field maneuvers, so maybe his orders will come through whiles he's in the field.
Ruth - It seems like your son has accomplished a lot in two years time. That's wonderful. My J is not going green and will stay blue at least until the Navy tells him he has to go green.
Pulled the weather for the next couple days. High 60's but lows in the 40s. Not as bad as it was, but I still wouldn't want to be sleeping under the stars!
Good Morning Moms, I can feel the vibration accelerating as are cubs work closer to coming home to their Mom's nest. lol I too have been getting ready for my T. I have been doing way to much shopping(I said I wouldn't). Hehe
Jacqueline, How fun a new baby in the family and to host a baby shower a lot of work but so much fun! I know the dynamics of 2 cousins growing up really close and the fork in the road when they become men. T and his cousin Joshua have grown up very close, even at this moment Josh is taking EMT classes and has been in Theft Prevention kinda like law enforcement T feels passion about and what he has learned in A school! Just so proud of these boys, never been involved in drugs or the law. T is 25 and Josh is 24yrs. old and no babies out of wedlock!!
Did you notice that a point in time somewhere between the teens and beginning of the 20's they kinda went their own ways?!
Pam, Good for you, with all you do for your family and the time you spend in these forums giving advice and keeping up with working outside of the home...you go girl. lol I'm proud to have gotten to know you!!
Chief, I can't wait to meet you on the 16th! I admire you for your constant giving nature as in your never failing way that your heart is so big that you take such joy in giving to our men & women serving abroad!! That you chose a career of giving to sick people in hospitals!
RuthVH, I admire YOU!! That you have raised a "good son", competitive & compassionate. I wish All good things for his Navy Career, I'm sure he well astound All of us!!
You All have been there for me and my T and there are no words or heart felt sentiments I can express to you ALL, on what it has meant to me...tears and joy is all I can express...Thank You ALL...
Awww...thanks Judy! I was wondering were you've been, but I can understand with all that shopping going on!!
I'll be moving over to the Naples, Italy group at the first of the year but will definately come back to this group to offer advice. I have learned so much since my son left for boot back in April. Even though my husband was in the Army, this is so much different.

my group (6 of us) here at home will head to Cali. Monday evening. About a 29 hour drive, so we will not push ourselves. We should arrive in Oceanside later on Wednesday. I've been going insane the past 2 weeks with everything going on! Mixed feelings on the trip, but we'll make the best out of it, which ever way it ends up.
Becky, That says a lot of you and your group of friend's to drive 29 hours in the winter, your son is going to be so happy to see all of you and so proud of You his Mom for trekking all those miles!! You go girl!! lol Just be very careful and watch out for the others on the road...in other words be safe!! I hope I get to meet you at the ceremony on the 16th!
Jacqueline & Cheryl, ROTFL because I can imagine that scene between the 2 of you. Thanks for the 411 on how CP runs it's...We had the same greeting when fmtb just started!

I heard the same out of T...nights were freezing with frozen dew left behind from the night... but the days were pretty mild low to mid 70's. It was nice to hear that they didn't have to walk around all day soaked with muddy water camo's , lol
Pam, so if C is staying on at CP what is his next step?!
How funny T announced that he came to know another Central Coaster in his own platoon! Yes, this corpsman hales from San Luis obispo...7 miles from Shell Beach where I live!! He even is the same age as T and went to the same junior college as T did...small world.huh!
Chief, If you haven't the computer from UPS, Fedx, or USPS you can deny the parcel it will go back to the company from which it came, and they will credit back your method of payment...it beats receiving the parcel then repackaging and then a charge to send it back and maybe a restocking Fee!! Just a thought!
My group consists of me, my husband, our 2 other sons (11 and 15), our daughter and her best friend (both 19). It will be an "entertaining" trip to say the least! J has said he doesn't want his sister to come because he doesn't want the other guys to meet her!! Protective big brother! I have started packing plans, bought all kinds of snacks for the ride (along with homebaked goods), and have the kids getting movies, books, and cd's together. I just hope we have room in the car!! We are staying at the Oceanside Marina Suits--anyone else?? I hope to meet some of you there!
Briefly chatted with J on FB last night. He still doesn't know anything, so I guess we'll head out tomorrow. I have mixed feelings about the whole deal--going to California in Dec. will be great (we got our first snow happening right now!), and seeing his graduation will be priceless, but it means he won't see the rest of the family before leaving and that breaks my heart. As one of my teacher friends says "suck it up, buttercup!" and deal with it I guess! It will be nice to have him all to myself, though! Hope everyone has a great Sunday and stays warm!
Good Morning Moms. I had the best time at Christmas beach dinner party last night with some new neighbors ! The weather here on the Central Coast of Cali was magically warm last night!! It's morning and again a beautiful clear sunny day and I have some errands to run today..So I will check in later!
Becky, I thought J's immediate family was traveling to CA. with you?! I must be missing something? You're about to embark on a family holiday adventure traveling through a number of states in your car which is going to be awesome sights...take it all in as a Christmas present you're giving to yourself and your children and live in the moment...As Moms we tend to over think things and if it doesn't go exactly the way our minds eye sees it then we've done something wrong...You're a wonderful Mom and I just know that the warm CA. weather will help you to enjoy the ceremony and give you a great time at CP ...and you will get to meet up with Chief and myself if time permits...can't wait to meet you in person!!
Becky - be safe! That's on my bucket list. Go cross country either by car, rv or train. We drove from El Paso TX to Chicago when my husband was in the Army. We were young and I was a few months along with Jamie, but it was wonderful. And yes, being in the military makes you appreciate the time you do get with your family. Looking back, the year that we spent in Texas was just a blink of an eye and I don't know why all I wanted to do was go back home!!!
We are currently trying to kill ourselves getting ready for J to come home! He's like a visitor now, the bathrooms have to be spotless!! My husband is even painting his room (which we've converted to an office) and shampooed all the carpets! And after two weeks of working on Christmas lights, we're still not done! But we have the vision in our heads of picking him up from the airport (very late) and having all the lights on for him when we drive up! I know, overboard!!
Thanks for your comment Carol! No matter what that son of mine does, he's always got a smile on his face. We are so proud of him.
Chief - glad you were able to return the computer. Hopefully it will all work out. I know your probably spending the last few days just anxious to get to Cali!!!
Judy - Christmas on the beach is my kind of Christmas!! I'm planning a cruise for next Christmas!
JudyB- by saying J won't see the rest of the family, I was meaning his grandparents, aunts and uncles. My mom in law is having surgery the 21st, so there was no chance of them going along. J is the oldest grand- and great-grandchild on my husbands side, so everyone is having a hard time letting him go. He is also the oldest grandson on my side. (bunch of girls in my family!) My mother is gone, and my father is in a nursing home after a stroke. My dad cries everytime I talk about J. My fear is that something will happen to my dad or one of J's great-grandparents before he gets to see them again. Guess it's a possibility for everyone, but not something I care to think about. Better get more laundry going- tomorrow's the big day! If we are "signalling" somehow at graduation, please let me know before tomorrow afternoon! Not sure I'll be able to check internet before Wed. night after that. Someone flag me down- I'm planning on wearing a wine-ish colored sweater and I'll have a pretty brown haired girl and a pretty redhead with me (as well as my 2 boys and husband!) And I'll probably be crying the whole time!
sounds like a plan! I'll have to see if I can find a blue bow somewhere. Can always stop at a craft store on the way! What can we expect from the weather during graduation? Should we dress warm or cool? The midwest is down to 10 right now, wind chill below 0.
I just threw together a small ribbon- royal blue with a slender light blue one down the middle......not a very creative person. I hope someone looks me up!
Okay, Blue ribbons it is!! It's funny cause it looks like our FMF Corpsman will be in their marine camos which are not blue! I'm wondering if Ruth VH can tell us if they will be in formation at graduations the same as they were in their platoon?! That would be very helpful cause then we can inform each other as to were we will be sitting in our blue ribbons!
Jacqueline, I remember you posting before about where to sit, so I took a mental note! T tells me that on Monday they will practice for graduation so we should know where they will be in line!
How exciting!! And I'm not even going!! But our J will be home for the holiday so I'll have to accept that. I'd love to see a picture if anyone can post one here. J said there were nearly 300 of them in this class so to spot your kid is going to be hard!
Carol - I have the address and bulding number. I just don't know if it's the same building number since J is in Platoon 2 and if I'm not mistaken your C is in Platoon 1. I'll e-mail it to you (we got it last month when it was J's birthday). He did get the box on a Friday and what Jacqueline said about them getting liberty is true. It's usually after the mailroom closes. He just happened to get out early that Friday.
Hi Jacqueline, Thanks...I sure we will with all the excitement and buzz in the air!! I was wondering if you could give me that Nature's Way, medicine to stay healthy you posted a couple of weeks ago. I wrote it down and put it into my purse but when I went to find it ...it was not there!
Well, Ladies, we are about ready to start our long trek - 8 states counting hometown Illinois and California! It will be a beautiful drive, I've been told. Can't wait to meet some of you there, and we'll miss the others. I will try to post pictures when I can. Safe travels to all! And congratulations to all our guys! I am happy for those of you who get your guys home for the holidays, though I am also jealous!
Thanks Chief, it is nice to have a place where you have people who know what you are going through. Woo hoo my son started an IV!!! He is still learning but working in the hospital there at CP should help.
mixed emotions here......J called while we were eating supper in New Mexico...he has a few days before he leaves so he wants to go home! It's wonderful that he will be able to be home, but we've spent 14 hours driving almost 900 miles, and now we will turn around and go home. We wouldn't be able to fit him in our car to bring him home, plus it would take too long-by the time we got home he'd have to leave! So we will spend the next 2 days on the road back home, but he will be there shortly after that! I know that he will spend most of his time with friends, not family (he's already told me this)....one reason I was hoping to get to spend time with him in California. Oh well, that's the way the cookie crumbles~ sorry I'll miss you all at graduation!
Becky - I can totally understand those mixed emotions. Goodness, it is the way of the military though to make you hurry up and wait. I always try to look at the good in every situation and I can tell that you are too. In the words of my son yesterday "One more day and a wake-up!!" Enjoy the time you have with him. I'm already starting to tear up just thinking about my J leaving for two years at the end of the month. And I have to be the one to take him to the airport. And then go to work. LOL - I'm going to be a wreck!
Pam, RuthVh and Becky, Were sure going to miss you sweet moms at the FMF ceremony tomorrow at Camp Pendleton!! But we'll be thinking of you as we watch All our Corpsman get pinned...I'm so excited, don't think I will get to much sleep tonight! lol
Pam

Becky (J's Mom)

Thanks! Guess what I'm packing will work.

Becky (J's Mom)
mixed emotions here......J called while we were eating supper in New Mexico...he has a few days before he leaves so he wants to go home!
