Carol: THANK YOU for posting the link to the video. I have NOT watched it but will do so this evening when I get home from work. I'm looking forward to learning more about FMTB. . .I'm sure your video will do the trick. Thanks!
Pam: Thanks for the welcome! Cody will be going green and has been assigned to the 3rd Marines. He IS an adrenaline junky and has been working out like crazy while in A-School to help prepare for FMTB. It's odd, but I think he's looking forward to the physical training/endurance required of FMTB. Don't know what's wrong with that kid. LOL
GEZ - Green means the Corpsman is getting attached to a Marine Unit and essentially becomine a Marine. Blue means they'll stay with the Navy. The Naval Corpsman is the medical support for the Marine's. Hope this helps!
JLC: I think A-School has spoiled my son a bit since they have pretty regular hours, so being mustered at all hours will be difficult. When will your son finish FMTB, and when does he leave for Oki? Cody will also be stationed in Oki when he finishes FMTB.
I really wanted my husband to go Blue, he wanted to go Green. I have been trying to mentally prepare, he will be staying at Pendleton. My impression is that he will be in Afghanistan by the end of the summer.
He has been on hold since October, he is excited to go.
mrsS- my bf is also staying at CP. he is staying green side. i don't really know what to think about that either... i kinda wish he would have been blue. i guess in our minds it is safer.... but i know that he likes green side. i guess it is like getting to be in 2 branches at once... best of both worlds i hope! although once they are "DOC"s they get a lot of credit from the marines. my bf is attached to the hospital though and not to an acutal unit... so he is pretty much in waiting for getting delpoyed.. they send the hopsital people on delpoyment when they are needed, where ever and when ever. so we wont know right away.. i am just hoping they tell him more in advance like if he was with a unit.
he was on hold there since the end of oct after he got leave after a school graduation. he was happy just to start FMTB so he wasn't really in limbo anymore!!
well ladies about 1/2 way through with the field week!! can't wait to hear all the stories about it!!
So far my son is still blue going to a clinic in Nevada after training, but he would like to go green also but the slots were all picked before he got to choose. I am happy as he will be closer than when he was in A school.
Welcome Bille, I also joined this group when my son was in A school so really helped to see things he would be going through.
Hope the rain holds off for them we only got a little during the night much less than they predicted. Wonder what they are doing, hope all are ok. Does anyone know when they do the longest hike?
Oh my goodness Linda. I am shocked. I know and can understand how sensitive drunk driving can be and I don't ever want to take away from that, but that seems more like a personal attack on you. My husband was hit by a drunk driver 15 years ago and wasn't hurt thank goodness except for several days of being sore, but I still try to keep an open mind about it and even joined MADD. I believe that this forum is ultimately for anyone with a service member seeking support, advice and encouragement. I know you put yourself out there by even posting it, but you needed what this forum gives. Please know that not everyone feels that way. So sorry you have to go through this.
WOW!!! i am really shocked too!! i think i am kinda dissappointed in whoever it was that asked you to leave!!! this is a support group!!!! you and your son both know that a big mistake was made! i kinda hope that others make a fuss over you leaving too!! we are ALL human and ALL make mistakes... "let he that has no sin cast the first stone" i am actually getting worked up over this a little!! i am really sorry that they have said this to you. i could maybe understand them talking to you in a private message but to ask you to leave is a whole different issue. we have all been through a lot together! some more then others and we are like a family that should stick by eachother no matter what!!! as pam said i know that issue is really sensitve but that is really no excuse to ask you to leave. your son is his own person and dispite your best efforts may do things you tried to teach him against. we can only hope and pray that your son has learned from this and will move on in a positive direction, which i am sure he has!! you never know he may be the one to find the cure for cancer!!!!
linda- i am so sorry for everything you have gone through!! you should still be able to be apart of this group! 99% of us here seem to have your back! i just hope that you are still going to read all of this messages! i for one am going to send this too you in a message just in case as well! i hope others to do!!!! also i am glad that it seems as though he wont get kicked out!!! i hope to see you a grad!! maybe we could meet up!!
for the person that wrote that to her..... I am really really sorry that you feel this way! i do not try to pretend to know your reasons behind your thoughts, however i do feel that you are in the wrong. this is a support group and she is going through a particular hard time and she came to a SAFE place to talk about it! no one should feel attacked here. and i am not trying to attack you... i am just saying that she has just as much right to be here as you do!!! thank you for spending the time to read this!!!!!
JLC and Jesspoo, This person must be having a really bad day or is really not in a very good place with herself in order for her to past "Judgment" on Linda as she has...but as you both articulated very fluently that this site is for sharing and we leave "Judgment" at the door!
So that being said, If this person would like to share her pain with "US", I'm sure we would be more than happy to listen with compassion and sincerity....
Linda, I hope you will continue to come to this group. This is one place where we can just be ourselves and share the good and the bad. If not among ourselves, where then? I feel so for you and your son. This is a very very hard time indeed; but you strike me as both being strong people. Please continue to stay in touch with your friends here, who care about you and your son. We all make mistakes. His is certainly a costly one to his own plans and dreams for the time being; however, he is young, healthy, and can learn from this and go on. We are all supporting you and him. Please stick around.
I agree with these ladies Linda, please don't leave the group. We all love our kids and try to teach them right from wrong but then we have to let them live their own lives and just keep praying that they make the right decisions. You ladies put it so well that we are here to support each other and not tear each other down. You all have helped me and I believe that others can learn from mistakes that other young people make versus us telling them about when I was your age. A mama always wants to protect her child, and we may hate what they do but we are there to hold them up after they have fallen.
really not trying to take away from the matter at hand, but joan F you had a question.... the longest hike they have is 8 miles and unless i am mistaken they only have one of those. it is part of their final hands on practical test thing they do. i am pretty sure it will be around the 17th or so. but that is just my thoughts so far. not really based on much for sure info. the may do it twice to get ready for it but i didn't think so. that day of the practical they also have to stay up for like 32 hrs or so again kinda like the boot camp final test... ick!!
Linda, This is a place for you and other parents to come for support, not for someone to pass judgement. Don't allow anyone to force you to leave a group that you receive support from. You don't owe anyone an apology. These moms are reaching out to you and asking you to stay because they care, respect and support you. You need support to help you get through this crisis and after reading the posts being left for you, there are plenty of moms here willing to do just that. Hold your head up Mom, stand tall and don't be afraid to reach out. If this person isn't happy with this group, that's their problem, not yours. Your heart is breaking for your son, let this group help you through this. I admire the courage it took you to post what happened openly, use that courage to stay and reach out for the help you need to get you through this. Hugs to you Mom, I very proudly join the rest of the Moms and Dads who are praying for you and your son, God bless.
WOW! I am speechless somebody would say and do something like that! I'm so sorry Linda. I thought this was a support group and that we were free to vent or say what is going on with our guys. As you can see many of us support you and Ruth is right, if the creator didn't ask you to leave then I don't think you HAVE to leave but it would be understandable if you felt like you did. I wish you the best and I wish your son the best. I hope you do come back!
On another note...I can't WAIT to hear from my bf tomorrow! Hope this week went by faster for them than it did for us lol!
ok that was weird.. i was about to leave a comment here and it said i needed to be a member of the group first. which i am already of course... hmm wonder if it was a comp error?? anyone else have that happen?
anyways dmc you are right, i can't wait to talk to my bf!!! almost there just a few more hours! wonder when they are going to get off? he told me last week that he was prob going to be really tired. i told him i would have a pizza, a movie, a video game, and the bed all ready for him! lol super excited!!
Thata Girl Linda, I'm so happy that you have decided to stay with us, because You are one of us and we would miss you!!
I wanted to share something with my cyber friend's. My Corpsman is coming home for the weekend and I decided to give him some money for gas since it keeps climbing to no end in sight; anyway I deposited a 100.00 in his account today and this is his reply" This message is to confirm your donation to the Gas Fund of ( Tristan B) Here at Tristan B Enterprises we value our customers and sincerely appreciate the generous donation. Please text back if you would like your amount of the donation in writing for tax purposes. Again Thank You for using Tristan B Enterprises and we look forward to your next contribution. Have a Great Day.
I'm just wondering if all our Sailors have this kind of "sense of humor", or do I just have a "nut" for a son. lol
I picked up my Corpsman last night, dirty and tired, with a messed up ankle! He hurt it running last thing on Friday. He words," It was a rock, not because I'm old!" He walking a little better this morning. Prayers, please. I would hate for him to be a recycle.
Mrs S, Tell him to stay offf of it this weekend and Ice it like crazy!! Ibuprofen should take care of the swelling and discomfort...but he knows all of this cause he training to be a Corpsman. I am wishing him all the best and that he is up and ready for FMTB on Monday!!
So glad to have them back from the field, mine was so tired and said the power was out so couldn't even wash his clothes. I pray that he passes his test this Monday and can go back to phase 4 as those late night mustering must be killing him. I am trying to get a package out to him before he goes back out in the field.
Linda so glad to see you and would really love to meet you all at graduation.
Carol ouch that sounds painful. My brother fractured his foot and it was painful but all they did was have him wear heavy shoes to protect it. So he is getting ready to deploy wow, prayers going your way.
That would be great if they knew each other. Ruth that is wonderful that by us "knowing" each other on here we could help our sailors out. Does anyone else in the 1st platoon? The nice thing is he knows my daughters fiancee who is a Marine stationed there and one of his friends is also in FMTB so my son got to meet him. It makes you feel a little better when you know they have someone to help them out. I hope they are all studying for this next test, hope mine passes so he can go back to phase 4 and stop the late mustering. So glad they are back as it is raining here since early this am, not sure about So Cal but at least know they are not in the field.
Good Morning Moms. It was a beautiful day yesterday here on the the Coast of Cali; but today it has dropped about 15 degrees it's overcast and reports of rain sometime today!
Joan, I'm praying that you're cub passes his test tomorrow and can phase up!! I know that mustering can get real old when you have already been there!!
Nothing but positive vibes going out to All FMTB'ers!
Why don't you see if a couple of friends with cars can drive to your hotel with your son (with his car and one other one), leave his car there, and drive back - the three of them in the second friend's car. I doubt if he will have a hard time finding two buddies to help him. That might be the easiest way.
I live between Carlsbad and Camp Pendleton. I am a stay-at -home Mom. I put my older daughter on the bus at 9 am. I can provide transportation and would be glad to do it. Let me know how I can help.
Hope everyone had a good weekend! Really nice to see you here Linda :)
Joan my bf is also in Platoon 1. He felt horrible this weekend. Had a really bad migraine yesterday and he said he passed out in the restroom and woke up in his bed then today he had the migraine again. He's a little worried about tomorrows test for the same reason but I'm sure he'll do great, as well as everyone else!
linda nice to see you on! i was trying to do some research for you but only having my little phone to do it on wasnt really working. but i did manage to find out that the hotel you are at is only about 10 miles from the part of the base you need. the main gate is the one you will go through and the graduation is maybe a mile from that gate. so unless there is a charge for having a cab that can get you on base i don't think it would be 100 bucks. i know there are 2 of you in the cab though. i live pretty near it and if at all possible will be willing to help! let me know.
as all of you have seemed to talk to your love ones about the week it seems to be all the same answers. my bf looked pretty beat up on fri when i saw him. but sat he was looking a little better. his lips were swallon and cracked and he was a little sunburnt, but i was happy that he tans up and not burns!! he was pretty banged up too. but he did enjoy most of it. said that it seemed like they were getting into a lot of trouble. he had duty sun so he had to leave sat so i hope he was able to study some more for the test today. he said before that he didn't think that many people in the past had failed test 5 so good luck to all of them!!
oh and he did say that they are going back out for the end of this week from wed to fri i think. and they only got tents the first time they were out cause of the rain that week. he said they have 2 more hikes and on the very last one is the test which should be from the 16th to the 17th or so cause it is like a 32 hr test and that is the one they come back to a bbq on. but he did say that there is only 13 more "working" days till graduation so a lot of the guys are feeling pretty good about that! i think that it will give them pretty good modivation to sprint to the end!!! can't wait to hear how everyone did on the test!!
Well got his package off today, but if they go out on Wed he won't get it before they go out. Talked to him on Friday and then again last nite. He has still got a cough still, guess will have it til he leaves. he didn't mention being beaten up but will have to ask him about that. Hoping all passed the test today.
Linda glad to see you on here, wish I could help but will just be driving down that day. Now just have to make arrangements for the two younger ones as still in school. Getting excited just a little over 2 weeks away!!!!
From the looks of it I think the test went well for my bf. He text me a picture of him in his dress blues and a big smile but he didn't write anything so I don't know lol. I want to say he got a patch on his uniform but I'm really not sure if he had those already. I guess we'll find out in a couple of hours!
Hope everyone gets some rest before they head back out to the field!
getting really anxious haven't heard from my bf about his test.... i just want to hear either way! i am a little worried now that maybe he didn't pass. as much as that would suck it is not the end of the world... after all it is the last one. i dn just kinda worried. if he didnt pass i am sure he feels like bad and i just want to be there for him... i dn maybe something happend to his phone or something..... i just want to hear something....
linda i was going to sugguest maybe a shuttle or something. i am not sure if they have any that can acutally get on base or not but maybe one that can get you closer... there is a 1-800-vanshare or www.vanshare.com that drives around here. or i think enterprise has a shuttle. then maybe just take a cab onto base to the area you need. may be cheaper not sure. just a though.
Matt passed!!! Yay back to phase 4 and no more late mustering. They are almost done. jesspoo I told mine to call me and let me know about passing and when he txt me it was only to say kk to mine about sending his box. Hopefully you will hear today and that he passed.
JLC I bet you can't wait to get here to our sunny Cali, which last few days here in Nor Cal it has been raining. My daughter who lives in So Cal was saying oh the sun is shining and it was 80. We are almost to the finish line girls.
Hello there Cassy Faye, Better late than never! Welcome so glad that you decided to join us here and hope you're corpsman is doing well on his journey!!
Linda, Sure hope you get to feeling better, here's wishing you a speedy recovery!
Congratulations to All you're corpsman in passing their test; I know the awwww....feeling. lol
Should be a really great week for "field duty" this week...make it a great one!!
Jess I'm sure everything is good with your bf and like the others say he was probably on watch or something.
My bf said today would be a day full of PT. I hope he feels ok during all the exercises because his migraines have not fully gone away. He said he couldn't get any prescribed medicine because then that would cause him to leave the program and start all over! Said he would just have to tough it out :/
So jealous for all of you who get to go to the graduation!! Its going to be so hard not being there to witness this huge accomplishment!
thanks for the concern from all of you. i hope to hear something tonight. makes getting through the work day not so great!! my mind is def not at work!! it is filled with him and my concern for him. he had duty and watch on sunday. he is in 3rd platoon. they usually only know about failures in their own platton so i am not sure if anyone else would know that is not in the same platoon. but thanks for the thoughts!
welcome cassy- what platoon is your bf in if you dont mind me asking?
Good afternoon all! Well, this class should be in the homestretch now! It is one heck of an accomplishment!! I've been out of town visiting family the last five days. 1705 miles through GA, TN, KY, MO, IL and IN. Had a blast but will not get my four year old in a car anytime soon! Seen the Arch in St. Louis. If you ever get a chance, it's one of those things you should see!
All the Corpsman should be getting their orders for their next duty station soon. Hope everyone gets to go somewhere new and exciting. And for those that will be attached to a Marine Unit, prayers that they will remain safe and out of harms way.
Wow Pam that is quite the trip with a 4 year old. I took a trip with my parents when I was on break in college we started in MN drove to Utah, then to Cali, then to South Carolina, stop near Chicago then back to MN. We did it over a month though. I saw the Arch in St Louis when we went down to pick up my brother when he got out of the Army, it is something to see.
Welcome Cassy, it is never to late to join in. Feel free to ask questions, I know I do.
Linda sure hope you feel better, last week I def was not feeling well. Burning up one minute and freezing the next with all the achy joints to go with it.
Dmc is your boyfriend buying the video? Mine said he isn't but you can bet that I am. So sorry that you won't make it, we didn't get to see him graduate A school as same thing he was grad n go and was in Cali the same day. My daughter and her fiance picked him up at the airport and spent the weekend with him, I didn't get to see him for almost a month after he got here was horrible.
LOL Linda - you'll have me beat!! We drove through TN this time, but I have family in Cookeville. One hour east of Nashville. My Dad is from there, but I grew up right outside of Chicago.

as all of you have seemed to talk to your love ones about the week it seems to be all the same answers. my bf looked pretty beat up on fri when i saw him. but sat he was looking a little better. his lips were swallon and cracked and he was a little sunburnt, but i was happy that he tans up and not burns!! he was pretty banged up too. but he did enjoy most of it. said that it seemed like they were getting into a lot of trouble. he had duty sun so he had to leave sat so i hope he was able to study some more for the test today. he said before that he didn't think that many people in the past had failed test 5 so good luck to all of them!!
oh and he did say that they are going back out for the end of this week from wed to fri i think. and they only got tents the first time they were out cause of the rain that week. he said they have 2 more hikes and on the very last one is the test which should be from the 16th to the 17th or so cause it is like a 32 hr test and that is the one they come back to a bbq on. but he did say that there is only 13 more "working" days till graduation so a lot of the guys are feeling pretty good about that! i think that it will give them pretty good modivation to sprint to the end!!! can't wait to hear how everyone did on the test!!

Joan - that's truly a coast to coast trip..
