i've seen the grad sight. Ya, bleachers. kinda muddy, outside. It better be casual
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

It does seem to be that way Linda. My boyfriends very good friend is in platoon 2. I haven't heard much about him so I don't think my bf has seen him as often.

My bf asked me to call the Navy center here in town to ask them some questions that he has and man were they not helpful! It was quite frustrating! Either I don't understand all of the Navy lingo or the 3 people who "helped" me did not understand me! Either way I don't think u was successful in helping my bf :/
  • jesspoo05

well i finally herd from my bf. sadly not much. all i managed to get out of him was that he thinks he can come see me on sunday for a few hours. and then i had to ask him how his test went. finally, he passed!!!! yay! don't have to worry about that anymore! now just a few days left of training and we are done with this section!! i just really would like there to be a little more communtication on his part sometimes. need to have a talk with him about that! trust me i know they are busy and tired but not hearing ANYTHING for days when i know he is not busy is driving me nutz! i dont think i am asking all that much by that. i do usually get to see him on the weekends, and trust me i am not taking that for granted but it was frustrating!! ok done venting!! can't wait for grad! think i am going to find a new nice shirt to wear and nice jeans!
  • jesspoo05

thanks and yeah that info about all the gross things is a guy thing for sure!! lol at least he is talking to you still. better then nothing... i think.. lol. and yeah he has a great memory and always is saying he tells me stuff that i dont seem to remember. which may be sometimes true but i like to think i have a pretty good memory and listen when he tells me stuff!! lol oh well... pretty sure they are off in teh feild till fri. hope to hear how it went later!!
  • MrsS

My husband is always TMI! His ankle was just a sprain, he'll be out with everyone on Monday. Jess, don't worry, it is a guy thing. They think things have to be eventful to share. We just want to know boring stuff. Then there is my guy, texting from the head! We both need a happy medium.
  • jesspoo05

lol nice mrs s! that is all i want a happy medium i am good not knowing every time he is in the head. but a text once a day if possible would be nice! and yes i really like to hear about the borning stuff too!!
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

Were they going out to the field today till Friday? My bf told me Tuesday that they wouldn't, because he knows how much I can't stand not talking to him lol but I'm pretty sure he would have mentioned it yesterday...we talked for an hour!

Jess my bf knows now to tell me details because he hates when I don't "elaborate!" Now he tells me everything! Like when they went to the field last week he told me everything from Monday to Friday! But just have a talk with him and he will slowly start to communicate with you more, especially when he sees you worry.

Joan, my bf is a reservist and just had some questions on when he comes home on the 24th. He knows he has to report within 3 days but he wanted to know if after he reports if he can go out to El Paso to pick up his truck and furniture that same weekend or if he would have to wait till the following weekend. Nobody was able to give me an answer when I called earlier so I will have to ask him if there is another number I would have to call. He had me call because they close at 4pm here and he gets done with his day at 7 or 8pm. I don't think there are any other ladies on here who has a reservist.

  • Pam

MrsS - LOL - I thought my son was the only one that would text from the head and make sure you know he was there!!  Ha, ha... When he was still at home, we had some of our best conversations while he was sitting on the toilet yelling down the hallway!!  It is a guy thing.  Ha, ha, ha, ha  My son won the Honorary Title of Most Talkative Boy for his High School Graduating Class (2008), so what does that tell you??

  • JudyB.

dmc, My corpsman is a reservists and yes once he reported to his "drill station", they gave him is reporting date to arrive when he has his drills usually one weekend a month!  Just tell him if he is expecting a "sign in bonus" to get the paperwork started ASAP because my corpsman is still waiting on his since he graduated Dec.14th 2010.  He has a really poor drill station in the middle of Los Angles...It's like Who's on 1st and What's on 2nd over there!!  It takes 3 CO signatures and at this moment he only has the first soooo...there's no telling how long it will take for them to get their ACT together, but NO USE in complaining cause it will take that much longer!!!  So, make sure he keeps up on his.
  • jesspoo05

dmc- yea i do need to talk to him more about talking to me more about the little things! and as far as i remember they are out in the field till friday. either leaving today or tomorrow.  but i thought it was today.

thought i would share some other info. since it is kinda like family here.... i am having a pretty good day over all today. and when i got into work my boss asked me to sit in and be a major deciding factor on the interview for a major postition in our dept. i felt pretty good. it was me, her, the store manager, and the regional manager. i am nothing more then a team member but she said that i am one of the strongest ones in the dept. so it seems like she values my opinion!! yay!! if i wasn't transfering store i may have applied for it as well. but it is really nice to know how my boss thinks so well of me!!  :)

  • Pam

That's wonderful jesspoo05.  You should be proud.  Good employees are so hard to find nowadays and I know that had to put you on cloud 9!
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

Thanks for the heads up Judy I will let him know. I knew about the one weekend a month, which to me is great! How is your son liking being in the Reserves so far?

Jess that's great! From what I've seen at work, once the managers start considering your opinion for big decisions it usually doesn't take long for you to also move up the ladder! :)

Just double checked with my bf and he said they are just having a field day tomorrow of mainly cleaning. But no going out to the field
  • jesspoo05

almost down with another week!! getting super excited as i am sure we all are!! only 10 working days left!!
  • Joan F

Jess that is a big honor to know that your boss thinks that well of you and good for her that she told you so. There is nothing more motivating than getting positive reinforcement that you are doing a good job, wish more bosses would do that as it would improve morale.

Haven't heard yet if my son got his box, should have gotten there yesterday. I told him to let me know when it comes as at A School he wouldn't always and it drove me crazy.

It is funny as I can relate to my son in a brand new way. When I was in nursing school the girls and I would eat and talk about all kinds of stuff, but forgot and started doing it a friend who was not a student and by her face knew that she was getting grossed out. When you deal and talk and learn about it you forget that other people don't normally discuss things like that and especially when eating.

My son said that they were doing PT and Martial arts this week and had big practical next week. Hope all get to hear from their Corpsman.

Welcome Flavia, is your son also doing FMTB if you don't mind me asking.

  • Pam

Hope all in San Diego stay safe as this tsunami wave approaches California.  I heard the ships will stay in place there.
  • JudyB.

I know Pam, I will be watching the coastline here from my office window today!  I'm praying for alll affected by this tragedy! The seas are pretty calm right now; but where we had very low tide yesterday, we see the surf meeting the sand today!
  • GEZ

You can be sure that those of us who are on the East Coast and have cubs on the West Coast are praying for your safety and the cubs' safety. I am very grateful for this group - today more than ever. Thanks, West Coast Moms and gfs, for keeping the rest of us informed and up to date about the tsunami.
  • Mz.T

Just heard from my cub about an hour ago... Guam is safe. He got a little spooked. He actually was saying he missing the West Coast. I hope everyone has a good day today.
  • Joan F

I don't think they are expecting too much in So Cal but looking at the waves in SanFran. Found out from facebook that my son may have strep throat, didn't tell me when txt him yesterday. I am hoping he gets his box today as sent it on Monday and when I did it to Great Lakes he would get it in 2 days and we are going on 4 days in the same state!

Will be praying for all being affected by this tsunami and earthquake.

  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

So scary what is happening right now! Found out my friends husband who is deployed in Japan with the Navy, was not there while this happened. I will be praying for everyone in these affected places and hoping that everything will be calm in California.

Everyone please keep us up to date if you hear anything else.

  • JudyB.

Aw Linda, This is good news...right?  Just being able to finish his naval training is more of a blessing than anything he has to go along with the next 45 days and now maybe he can see the light at the end of the tunnel...so to speak! I really believe that you will find a way to retrieve his car off the base. Hugs...
  • Joan F

Oh my goodness Carol you remind me of my daughter, she has a report due next week then 4 5 page essays due in May and several tests next week plus planning a wedding to boot. Good luck with the project. I am beginning to understand that nothing in the Navy is for sure, just when you think you know what is happening some curve ball comes your way.

Linda good news!! Taking a cellphone away was always my daughters biggest punishment, you would have thought we had taken her world away. Will be praying for you that the car situation will work out.

Well my son does have strep throat, went to clinic and they didn't have the meds he needed so was driven to the Naval Hospital. My goodness my son I need to find something to build up his immunity!

I believe they go out in the field this week. He still has not received his box, makes me mad as mailed it on Monday and it got to him in A school in 2 days and this is the same state!!!

  • Joan F

Does anyone know if there is a limit to how many people can go to graduation? My son wasn't sure so thought I would see if any of you know.
  • Joan F

Thanks for the info Ruth :)
  • jesspoo05

been pretty quite here, thought i would stop in and say hi!

got to see my bf over the weekend for a little. he brought some friends over on friday night and sunday. they had duty on saturday. it was really nice to see him!! i can't wait for this saturday to see him again!! plus they will be all done with the hard stuff and just have admin stuff left!! YAY!! almost there!! he said he thinks they are going into the field tonight and staying there till friday. i know they wont be getting much sleep though, sadly. I just hope the weather stays pretty good for them!!

well its the start of day 2 of the final week!! good luck and congrats to all of them for doing so well as of now!!

  • Joan F

Yay it is almost over. My son said they go out in the field today. He still has not gotten the box I sent him last Monday, I had hard candies in there for him to take out in the field. I hope it is there is important things besides the candy and never had a problem except once at GL where they couldn't read a number but he always got his stuff in 2 days.

He called me yesterday from the shop and I had to tell the lady there that he is to fitted for his tux as he is going to be a groomsman in his sisters wedding. Good to know that I am still needed lol.

  • jesspoo05

Joan- i am sorry that your son hasn't gotten your box yet. that is a bummer. i hope that it didn't get lost and if so that it gets found again soon!! and that is exciting about him getting to be in his sisters wedding! glad he is getting the messurments taken care of! and moms are always still needed!!

got a text from my bf this morning too! i like getting morning texts from him. especially since we wont get any till fri night. sadly he comes back to having to have duty and stand watch on friday. but that is not going to be a fun watch. but at least that will be his last one durning FMTB! I will be sitting at the edge of my seat waiting to hear from him just like when he finished battlestations in bc!! i am sure they all will do great though!!

  • MrsS

I should have volunteered to receive packages and drop them off at the barracks. I'm there at least three times a week. My Corpsman gets taco cravings, so we head off base for dinner.

I am also supposed to ask about a Mom from West Virginia? I think, Eric?

I always love the "My Mom knows your wife!" messages that my husband relays.

  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

Joan that happened to me when I sent my bf a box for Valentines. It was lost for about a week and 4 days and it ended up being sent back to me :/  Thankfully when I sent him his checkbook in a small box before he got that within 4 days, which is why I decided to send him the Vday box.

Last long week for them and us! I can't wait to see my bf in 9 days! He sounded very anxious in the text he sent me this morning. Said they go out to the field today, he comes back tomorrow for a test then back out to the field (I think it went like that) and then Friday after the last 7 mile hike they will have bar-b-cue waiting for them :) How exciting!

  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

By the way my bf has his ticket in his hands to come back to San Antonio on the 24th already!!! :) He'll be here at 6 p.m! Ahhhh I can't wait!
  • JudyB.

Hi All, The excitement is looming!  I remember my corpsman telling me the last week out in the field was Casualty Assessment and that this is where the Commanders really let you know how well you do you're job right there and then on the spot; what you're strength and weaknesses are.  Just so happens that T was very good at it...who would have known, when T hated hospitals of any kind...like the a phobia. lol
  • Pam

Yes, the excitement is building!!!  Your Corpsman should be very proud of what they have accomplished.  You never know when that training will come in handy.  My son, on his flight leaving San Diego, had to put that training to the test when they had a passenger on board pass out.  He and another gentlemen that had been an EMT years ago were the only ones with any kind of medical background.   The man was fine thank goodness, just had an unsafe drop in blood pressure, but my son was on Cloud Nine for days because he was able to stay with him and monitor his condition.  He knew he had picked the right rate.
  • Joan F

He had us send him his license plates for his jeep so really more worried about that than the rest but still really annoying. I know what you mean about not liking hospitals, my kids are used to them being as I have worked in the same one all of their lives but they never wanted anything to do with medical. That my son is liking it as well as he is amazes me. It is fun to be able to talk "shop" with him :)
  • 2proud4wordsnwv

Mrs. S, I believe I would be that mom from WV.  My son is Erik.
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

JLC yes I am lucky he will be here that same night. Still wish I could at least be there for him when he graduates since his family will not.

I'm sure our guys will be doing great this week!

  • JudyB.

Morning All, Well it really is another wet drizzly morning here on the coast of Cali. But should get into the high 60's today; so the cubs out in the field today should warm up by mid morning! Sending nothing but positive vibes out to them today!!
  • Joan F

Have been praying for all of them and for the weather to be nice, has rained off an on here in the central valley of Cali. Ruth that sounds like a good idea could ask my daughter what she knows as her fiance is stationed at CP and should know of places.
  • jesspoo05

Linda, I wouldn't mind getting together the night before. I just depends on my work schedule. I should know by friday what it is and I will let you know.

Yay!! We are about 1/2 way through the week already!! Almost there!

  • jesspoo05

yeah either way. not sure if anyone else wants to go, but i live near by so i have a car and can get anywhere. not sure how the car things will work out with you all. so if it is a place close to your hotel or i can even pick you up or something that is alright by me. and any one is alright with me! i like food! lol
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

Yay the bf text me about an hour ago! They are spending the night on base and taking their test first thing tomorrow morning. I was suprised to hear from him, thought I would have to wait till friday :) I'm going to talk to him on the phone pretty soon so if I have any other news I will let ya'll know
  • dmc20 (ship 7, div 282)

No problem JLC. He also called me this morning, mainly because something happened in my family last night, but I was mainly asleep since it was 7 am...5 with him. Just said he will be back Friday and that if I got anything in the mail from him to not open it till Sunday (my birthday!) He's crazy!

  • jesspoo05

dmc- thanks for keeping us posted. glad at least one of us has some sort of communication with our guys! and if i forget on sunday... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

linda- i wasn't sure about you getting the car by then. so you figured out the details? and i only work till 1:30pm on wednesday, so whatever time you want to meet up for dinner is good with me. what outback is it? in carslbad or oceanside. i guess i haven't looked into where they are.

also questions for who ever has gone to grad before. i know on the forum it says graduation starts at 10am. what time should you get there? is it hard to find the area? or hard to find seats? do have to walk far? is it a grassy area or mostly sidewalks? just trying to work out the details on what shoes to wear and everything else. any info would be great! thanks!

well ladies it is the last day of the tough stuff! congrats to all of our guys!! and congrats to all of us for another important chapter coming to a close...

  • JudyB.

    Morning All,  Happy Friday!!

Jesspoo,  When T graduated it rained and we went into the gym and sat on bleachers; but the outside graduation is set on asphalt and sidewalks and bleachers to sit on.  I would get there about an hour before because we got there about a half hour before and boy it was standing room only!!  Also they have corpsman as vendors selling corpsman T-shirts, DVD's, and mugs!

  • JudyB.

JLc, Just to give you a sample of the money you will lay down on corpsman goodies; I bought 2 T-shirts a DVD(guys out in FMTB) and 2 mugs and the total was around 65.00
  • Joan F

My son told me he didn't buy the DVD so figured I would plus the t shirts have been wanting a Corpsman one for awhile. I can't wait to see graduation, the end is in sight. Hope to hear from mine tonight. last time I heard from him he was at the store to get fitted for his tux so didn't get to talk to him. Hope we all hear from them soon and an early Happy Birthday to you dmc. How sweet that he is thinking of you with all the stuff on their minds, you have a very thoughtful son and should be very proud.
  • jesspoo05

Linda, looks like the outback on 2485 vista way is the one that comes up for the area. which i know where it is too! so i say wednesday at maybe 6pm or so. so we can eat and chat and have enough time to get home and get ready for the coming day and still get sleep. what do you think? And yes, anyone else wanting to come feel free!
  • MrsS

Going to pick up my Corpsman. He's been up all night and will be heading straight to bed. I'll try to get some info out of him.
  • Joan F

Yay my son txt me that he had gotten the box before he went out so whew that worry is over. Said test was easy so that is good news. I don't know if we can make the dinner as will be staying with my daughter and her soon to be Mother in Law in Santa Clarita. I would really love to meet you guys as it just didn't work out well with meeting the girls I met online before PIR. So yay they are back in and hopefully get rested up this weekend. It is raining here in NorCal of course started in heavy when we had to pick up kids from school lol.
  • jesspoo05

Yay! just got my text from my bf too!
  • JudyB.

    HOOYAH!!  Goes out to ALL the new FMF Corpsman,  {{{{{{Congratulations}}}}}}
